Video Edition.Welcome back and coming up on this edition of the show we welcome back "Canada's Rock'n'Roll Band" The Damn Truth" who release a brand new self titled albun this wek produced by grammy award winning producer Bob Rock. Joining us today to talk about the new album the band and all the stories behind the making of what will be one of the year's best albums are Lee-la Baum, PY Letellier and Dave Traina . Accept no substitute, The Damn Truth are probably the finest rock ‘n' roll band on the planet right now.” – Metal Planet“An incendiary kaboom of commotion, with blazing vocals, powder-keg rhythms, and flaming guitars. This is immense. It's a nitro-glycerine love-bomb!” – Raw RampThe forthcoming album features the singles “Love Outta Luck,” “I Just Gotta Let You Know,” “The Willow,” and their latest single “Better This Way.” Stream all the singles on Spotify. It's no secret that one of the most exciting new bands making noise in the UK and Europe these days is Canadian. It's true, and it's The Damn Truth, a Montreal rock foursome serving up a gutsy, revved up modern reimagining of classic rock ideals. And now, after touring the UK and Europe for the last four years, The Damn Truth return with their self-titled fourth album, The Damn Truth, and, once again, produced by the legendary Bob Rock (Motley Crue, The Offspring, Bon Jovi, etc). This new album is the culmination of 12 years of hard work and constant touring; The Damn Truth are a perpetual and virtually unstoppable rock and roll machine.Fuelled by two Top 40 singles on the Canadian Active Rock Charts (“Love Outta Luck,” “I Just Gotta Let You Know”), this new album marks the next level in their relationship with Bob Rock. He has pushed the band in all areas of playing, writing, and refining the Damn Truth signature sound, most evident in the revelatory power of Lee-la Baum's vocals as evidenced on the mystic, almost Zeppelin-vibed “The Willow;” the full on bittersweet romance of “Better This Way;” the social conscience of “The Dying Dove;” the cautionary “If Don't Make It Home;” and the hell yeah rabble rousing “All Night Long.” The Damn Truth have added some extra lanes on their rock'n'roll highway as they explore new musical scenery, but the destination remains the same: organic loud rock experienced best in a crowded concert hall dripping in sweat. The album was recorded over a period of two months at Bryan Adams' Warehouse Studios in Vancouver. This is Bob Rock's favourite studio; it's a classic and gigantic old school recording haven (AC/DC had just wrapped up prior to The Damn Truth's arrival), perfect for the massive drum sound that Bob loves. Unlike their previous LP, Now or Nowhere (2021), which was hampered by Covid restrictions; this one is 100% produced and mixed by Bob Rock, who also gave the band access to his incredible collection of rare and vintage guitars for the sessions.

Today I'm joined by Mario Rivera director and co-subject of Never Ending, It's Better This Way  The film explores DIY punk band Left Unsaid's rise from Albuquerque's thriving music scene in the early 2000s. Despite adversity, they became hometown heroes with a devoted following and mainstream radio airplay. Their journey embodies the resilience of blue-collar bands striving for recognition and success, showcasing the passion it takes to chase dreams in the music industry. This is a hell of a film that I thoroughly enjoyed even before I realized I had an incredibly brief cameo in it. It's so short that watched the film and didn't notice I was in it, but after I spoke with Mario I went back and paused a scene we talk about and, there I am 25 years ago… god damn  Never Ending, It's Better This Way is currently on Amazon Prime in the US. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/followingfilms/support

They have a big show on 3/16 at Baltimore Soundstage with Bond & Bently and Pressing Strings. I featured his brand new track “Better This Way,” which is a collaboration with the Joey Harkum Band, Pasadena, & Matthew Edward. If you enjoy it, definitely go stream it and follow Joey on all social media platforms. I've been meaning to get Joey back on the pod for a while now to talk about everything he's been up to and all the new music. Joey is one of the hardest-working songwriters in our area, and if you are friends or fans of his, I hope you enjoy the conversation. Whether part-time or full-time musicians, I think we can all take a little something from his work ethic and overall positive attitude in his lyrics. If you are listening outside of Maryland, look out for Joey in a town near you soon. Merchant is back to take us on the journey of his music and his album, Beautiful Meltdown.  ********  Beautiful Meltdown is the debut album from Merchant (Nate Merchant). Produced with legendary bassist of Duran Duran, JohnTaylor, Beautiful Meltdown is a fresh collection of 12 bright, propulsive, and, surprisingly, deeply personal tunes. Shimmering synthesizers, soaring choruses, earnest vocals, and rolling bass lines reveal Merchant's affection for 80's new wave but don't let the vibrant songs fool you, at its heart Beautiful Meltdown is the deeply emotional work of a singer-songwriter cloaked in the sonic magic of a studio wizard.Jagged, swirling synths usher in the title track of Beautiful Meltdown, a bouncy rumination on a dead-end relationship, and a rousing start to an ambitious album that takes us on an existential journey out of depression, through a season of growth, and ultimately to a place of balance and hope. Beautiful Melt down's vivid character sketches and musical short stories are complemented by infectious melodies, moving vocals, dancefloor-ready beats, and lush, modern production. The sad singer/happy music gambit is expertly executed on Beautiful Meltdown: the relentlessly catchy “Adderall (Why Don't You Let Me Go)?” confronts addiction while the galloping chorus of “Hate It Here” defiantly runs toward hope, the buoyant, beautiful vocals of “Better This Way” guide us through the pain of a break-up to acceptance even as the lovely melody helps heal our own painful memories in that mystical way pop songs can. The welcome surprise of Beautiful Meltdown is its unexpected scope, note the distance covered from “I Don't Feel Like Dancing”, the energetic banger about love lost which hits like an MTV-era neon wall-of-sound to the tender album closer “Take It From Ya”, an affecting meditation on unconditional love.********The YouTube Videocast of the show has three concept music videos.  https://youtu.be/K-SlyTAIPBYIf you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Twitter: https://twitter.com/DaunaD1Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomVideo of the interview is available here: https://youtu.be/K-SlyTAIPBYHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcastSupport the podcast here: https://www.patreon.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomSound Design and production by Rich Zei at Third Ear Audio Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thirdearaudioproductionsBuzzsprout: Affiliate link https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=1832259©2022 Better To...Podcast with D. We all do it, and we all need people in our lives who are willing to call those assumptions out and help us see what is true. Adele LaCombe has been blessed with a boss who not only brings out the best in her but is also committed to helping others discover their best lives as well. She works for her mother, Debbie Macomber, a #1 New York Times bestselling author known as the “official storyteller of Christmas.” Several of her books have been crafted into original Hallmark Channel movies!  As the CEO of the Debbie Macomber organization, Adele represents the organization on boards where she serves alongside several powerful men, including an admiral, a CEO, and a senator. These men have made it clear that they value Adele's ideas and perspectives, which has helped her feel empowered to do what God has called her to. In this show, we talk with Adele about how powerful our words can be and how to use them to lift up other women at the table. Plus, we discuss traveling for work and parenting, imposter syndrome, and being the only woman in a boardroom full of men.   Our Current Reads: Dear Santa, It's Better This Way by Adele McComber Encourage or motivated by today's show? Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing Debbie Macomber. Debbie is the author of many books including: It's Better This Way, A Walk Along the Beach, Window on the Bay, Cottage by the Sea, Any Dream Will Do, If Not for You, and the Rose Harbor Inn series. Thirteen of her novels have been New York Times #1 bestsellers, and five of her beloved Christmas novels have been hit movies on the Hallmark Channel. The Hallmark Channel has also produced the original series Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove, based on her Cedar Cove books. With more than 200 million copies of her books in print worldwide, Debbie is a leading voice in romance and women's fiction.   In this episode Debbie Macomber and I discuss: How our subconscious comes out in writing and directs the topics we explore. The balance between writing light Christmas stories and still providing substance. Why she began her book with a series of letters and flashbacks mixed with the present.   Plus, her #1 tip for writers. For more info and show notes: diymfa.com/381

Hey there friends! I hope you are all doing well out there beyond podcast land. I'm very excited, on todays episode, I'm speaking with my buddy Johnny Hamlin. Johnny and I connected on social media last year. We talked about fitness originally and it was shortly after that in which I realized that I had been listening to Johnny's band Lights Over Bridgeport for a few months. Nick Deiner from The Swellers had posted about the band because he produced their newest record "Better This Way" and I loved the record. Lights Over Bridgeport is a band from south Chicago. They put out one of my favorite records of 2020, so definitely go check it out, if you haven't already. Over time, I noticed that Johnny was really into lifting, I'd see him doing some impressive weight on social media, and we'd chat periodically about fitness and music, so I knew I wanted to get him on the podcast. And we talk about fitness and what that has meant to Johnny. We talk about his band, working with Nick, and we also talk about the Chicago music scene. We also talk about our shared love of Fat Wreck Chords, Epitaph Records, Propagandhi, Strung Out, Face to Face, Jimmy Eat World, The Misfits, Hum, and others. I had a lot of fun chatting with Johnny, I feel like we're kindred spirits. Johnny strikes me as a hardworking, humble guy. Very appreciative of what he and his band mates have been to do and accomplish and I admire that. So, without further ado, please enjoy this wide-ranging conversation with Mr. Johnny Hamlin, guitarist and vocalist for Lights Over Bridgeport.

This week's podcast goes off the rails pretty quickly, and includes a hungover dismissal of this version of The Book of Disquiet, the phrase "reclaim some of the douchery" is spoken, there is a lot of laughter, a discussion about the tensions between trying to read this as poetry vs. the expectations that come from trying to read it as fiction, and much more.  Get your BINGO card here! And if you get a "bingo" while listening, send a picture of your playing card to Chad Post. Each week, the first person who does so will receive a special one-time code to get 30% off of any and everything on the Open Letter website.
