We're talking with Rebekah Scott.  Get this.  She sews purses and accessories from her home in rural South Dakota!  She got her start as a poor newlywed and she needed Christmas gifts for her friends and family so she decided to make some purses out of her living room curtains.  Then she started getting phonecalls with people wanting her designs!  15 years later… she has four kids and the business has grown to a team of over 20 women who all work from home so they can spend time with their families!  They make hand sewn bags that are designed by YOU so you can express your own unique personality and style!  And her company… Rebekah Scott Designs is on it's way to becoming the biggest hand-made business in the country.  How freeeegin' cool is that!!!??? Plus… with all that Rebekah had going on… she had a wake up call a few years ago that made her realize she needed systems in her life so she could take care of her family AND take care of her business. As she started to create and use these systems… people started to take notice and ask her about them.  That led to Rebekah launching The Encourager Podcast and Encourager Academy training so she could bring tools to women who want to go from overworked, overwhelmed and unsuccessful to confident, clear and decisive. As you can already tell… this is an awesome conversation!  So let's get to it! MORE ABOUT THE BIG DREAM GATHERING: The back story is in 2006, one of Mitch's big dreams was on the ropes and he was about to give up.  As a last ditch effort… he decided to host something he called a “BIG Dream Gathering” at his home. It was an opportunity for friends to come and write down their dreams and goals, and then post them on the walls of his family home. Next everyone could read all the dreams and see if they could help with encouragement, connections or support. It was supposed to go for a few hours… but it wound up lasting a full week! And as a result… all sorts of dreams were launched. Everything from helping kids in Africa to a couple of dreamers scoring a contract with NIKE! These BIG Dream Gatherings have continued and Mitch and his Dream Team have seen this revolution take off with countless dreams reawakened and incredible connections made. As kids we are told to dream big and reach for the stars, but as we grow up those can feel like two of the hardest things to do.... The ones who can keep or regain that childlike wonder and belief that anything can happen if you set their mind to it, are a special type of human. They are the ones who change the world changers by changing the people who change the world, the leaders of leaders, the influencers for influencers. In the industry, these people are recognized by a much humbler name...coaches. Over the past few years the coaching and self development world has been booming, but have you ever stopped and wondered, Who coaches the coaches? Who encourages the encouragers? To answer that question we have to introduce you to our guest today, Mitch Matthews! Mitch is an elite level speaker, entrepreneur, author and success coach. Today, we're talking with Karena and Mia Steir.  These are two amazing humans… with incredible stories.  But we're going to focus on ONE particular story from something that started at a BIG Dream Gathering a few years ago.  I mentioned this story in episode 311 and you guys let me know you LOVED it.  It was the story of Mia… who came to the BIG Dream Gathering and decided that one of her big dreams was to write a book.  Well… she was really inspired by a number of people in the room… (and her mom Karena).  So… with the support of her parents… Mia got ‘er done and wrote that book (“Victoria… the Drama Investigator) in record time!!!  Not only that but she was able to get that book into schools across the country!  So, we're going to dig into their inspiring story… and more importantly, talk about the power of pursuing dreams at ANY age and the surprise gifts that can come along the way.  Let's get to this!   RESOURCES: Click here to find out more about Mia's book, “Victoria - The Drama Investigator.”   Click here to connect with Kerena Steir on LinkedIn THE “DREAM TOGETHER” APP IS HERE! Welcome to our special “Dream Together” Q&A series.  We're going after the biggest questions we've received over our 15 years of BIG Dream Gatherings.  That's right.  As we held these events around the country, we'd always wrap up with a Q&A with the audience. That's when we'd go after the biggest questions and the biggest challenges people face when moving forward on their dreams and goals. In today's episode, I'm going to offer some simple but powerful strategies to help you to get CLEAR and help you to get STARTED.  So… let's do this. RESOURCES: Episode 195: Shawn Askinosie: Finding Your Call and Feeding Your Soul: www.mitchmatthews.com/195  Episode 250: 3 Things I've learned from 250 Episodes of DREAM THINK DO  (I talk about perfectionism in this one!) https://mitchmatthews.com/250/ Episode 262: Dan Grec: Finding Happiness Amid Chaos: https://mitchmatthews.com/262/ THE “DREAM TOGETHER” APP IS HERE! That's right! Our DREAM TOGETHER App is here! The “Dream Together” app is designed to help you clarify your goals as well as connect with like-minded individuals so you can “dream together” to make those dreams (big or small) a reality! So… HERE ARE THE STEPS: STEP 1: Download the app. Find “Dream Together” for your Apple Device: HERE Find “Dream Together” for your Android Device: HERE STEP 2: Sign up and enter the group code: dreamthinkdo STEP 3: Be inspired by the dreams that are already there.  Then… follow and encourage a dream or two! STEP 4: Post at least one of your own dreams… and then invite friends to join you so you can DREAM TOGETHER! Let's do this! MORE ABOUT THE EPISODE: Okay… so as we've held our BIG Dream Gatherings around the country over the last 15 years… we'd always try to include a Q&A session at the end. Now… if you're new to DREAM THINK DO… and you're not familiar with what a BIG DREAM GATHERING is… the short version of the story is… these are fun… HIGHLY interactive events that we'd hold… that would bring people together in a room… anywhere from 30 to 800 people at a time… I'd kick it off with a talk… but then we'd have people write down some of their goals and dreams on sheets of paper… post them on the walls… and then we'd invite everyone to go around the room to look at each other's dreams and then write notes on the “dream sheets.”   People could offer encouragement… ideas… suggestions and offers to help.   Now… with the current season we're in… we've created an APP called “Dream Together” to provide the same opportunity… to… well… dream together… but now instead of being in the same room… we can do it from our phones and dream with people around the world. It's pretty cool! Well… as I was saying… when we'd hold our BIG DREAM GATHERINGS… we'd do a Q&A at the end to give people the chance to ask any questions about things that were holding them back. And one of the biggest questions… one of the most common questions… that would almost ALWAYS come up was… “Which dream do I go after?” It makes sense though… right?  People would come to this event… and come up with a couple… all the way to sometimes 20… to 30… dreams. STORY ABOUT IAN. So… they get excited… but then their brain starts to spin because they're thinking, “Great!  Now that I have clarity on all these things I want to do… things I could do… where do I start?  Which one should I go after first?” And this is an important question for several reasons. 1. If you're a perfectionist… this question can KILL your dreams before you even get started!  You're sooooooooo worried about starting out with the PERFECT choice… and doing it PERFECTLY… that you never start. “Perfectionism is the mother of Procrastination.” - Michael Hyatt “The fastest way to break the cycle of perfectionism is to give up the idea of doing it perfectly and instead embrace uncertainty and imperfection.” - Arianna Huffington Or as I like to say… “Progress beats perfection.” And… “Let's learn as we go!”   2. Another reason it's a BIG question is… a lot of people are VERY busy… busy schedules… lots pulling at you… lots on your plate.  You probably don't have TONS and TONS of time… days and days… to just throw around.  SO… you want to be smart with how you're spending your time.  Hey… you're listening to DREAM THINK DO… so I'm betting you don't want to waste a day of the time you've got on this rock.  Am I right? Those are 2 reasons… and there are many more.  BUT… since we're keeping this episode at 15 minutes… we'll leave it at that. So let's get to those questions I promised you. All right… maybe you've been using the DREAM TOGETHER app… and you've got a few dreams in mind… let's help you decide on which one to go after next. So… the first question I like to ask in this scenario is…  “Of all the dreams and goals you could go after… which might be the best in THIS season of your life?” It's a simple… but powerful question. It's all about thinking about your CURRENT SEASON… and then weighing out which dreams would be the best fit for you… right now? And I think it is important to mention… that just because a dream isn't right for “this season” of your life… it doesn't mean that's a bad dream… or a silly dream.  It's just not right for THIS season.  So give yourself some grace and say, “It's a good dream… it's just not for right now.” At the same time… a powerful follow up to our SEASON question can be: “What might be a way to take a small but significant step towards one of my bigger dreams?” I'll give you a few examples. You may have a big dream of traveling the globe… but right now… there's a flippin' pandemic… so it's not physically possible… or maybe you're in college and the funds just aren't there quite yet… or… you've got little kids and you're navigating a full house… so the thought of global travels lights you up… but then almost starts to feel soul crushing… because it might be a while. Well… what if you gave yourself permission to run some experiments… To run some drills. To have some fun with it. What if you gave yourself permission to take 15 minutes a few times a week… to plan a dream trip.  To ask, “If I had the time… where would I go?” Or… “How have people like me taken a trip like this?”  And do some research. Heck… we've even talked to people about this very thing on DREAM THINK DO. People like Dan Grec… who got the idea to drive from Alaska to Argentina in a Jeep.  He didn't have the money or the vacation time when he got hit with the idea… but over 3 years… he just gave himself permission to do the research on how he MIGHT do it.  And then gave himself permission to take mini-trips… to see if he even liked taking short road trips… to be sure he'd actually want to do a marathon trip like that.  But as he kept experimenting… he kept falling deeper and deeper into more loooooooove with the dream.  AND he kept finding more doors opening to make it possible.  And the dream… the one that seemed IMPOSSIBLE when he started… became a reality.  He drove from Alaska to Argentina… and then he drove AROUND Africa… and he continues on… and adventure travel and photography is now his day job.  Just because he was willing to ask these two questions. https://mitchmatthews.com/262/ Another example… might be… that you don't LOVE your current job… and one of your big dreams is to find a job… or a career that you LOVE.  BUT you're not even sure what THAT dream career might be. Well… maybe you can ask yourself… “What might be some small but significant steps towards figuring this out?” https://mitchmatthews.com/195   I'll give you an example of this type of approach.  In episode 195, I talked with Shawn Askinosie who had been a successful criminal defense lawyer… but he'd fallen out of love with it.  So he started to give himself room to experiment with other types of types of work.  As he did… he allowed himself to take night classes, watch TED talks, invite people he was curious about to coffee to hear more about what they did… and as he did that… he discovered an unknown passion for chocolate.   This journey eventually inspired him to start a bean-to-bar chocolate factory and he's never looked back.  And NOW…  Askinosie Chocolate is a small batch, award-winning chocolate factory located in Springfield, Missouri.  They source 100% of their cocoa beans directly from farmers across the globe… and Shawn is active in helping to create sustainable farming in each area he partners with. NOT ONLY THAT… but Askinosie Chocolate was recently named one of the 25 Best Small Companies in America by Forbes and Shawn himself was named by “O magazine,” and Oprah Winfrey as one of the 15 guys who is literally saving the world.  How cool is that?   But he found that passion… because he was willing to give himself permission to DREAM… to start small… to experiment… and to learn as he went. His dream was to find his DREAM CAREER. But he didn't know what that was.  So he asked a better question for THAT season. “What might be some small but significant steps towards figuring this out?” So… if you've been wrestling with the question: Which Dream should I go after right now?” Some questions to ask yourself can be: “Of all the dreams and goals you could go after…  which might be a good one in THIS season of your life?”   If the dream seems TOO big to pursue right now, you can ask: “What might be a way to take some  small but significant step towards  one of my bigger dreams?” And hey… if your dream feels pretty BROAD… like how Shawn wanted to find his next dream career, but he wasn't sure what that might even be, you can ask:  “What might be some small but significant  steps towards figuring this out?” And then… it's all about giving yourself permission to START. Keep taking those small but significant steps forward… and more clarity… will come.  Not to mention some amazing experiences too!   It's like Abraham Maslow once said, “In any given moment we have two options: To step FORWARD INTO GROWTH  or to step back into SAFETY.” And hey… I don't know about you… but I find the best moments in life tend to come when we're growing.   Amen?  Amen. MORE ABOUT THE EPISODE: As a DREAM THINK DO-ER… you know that we can't go after dreams and goals alone.  There's a VERY good chance… you're going to need some help along the way.  But asking for help… doesn't mean you're weak!  It can actually allow others to shine! I talk about this in-depth in the episode but here are a few of my favorite quotes on this subject. “You can do what I can not do.   I can do what you can not do.   Together we can do geat things!” - Mother Theresa Charlie Mackesy's book, “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse.” It's true.  Asking for help doesn't mean you're weak.  It means you are brave!  It means you're brave enough to acknowledge we're not supposed to do this alone! I tell some stories during the episode.   Here are a few pics but you'll have to listen to get the FULL story on each!  DREAMING ABOUT WRITING A BOOK AT 9?  LET'S DO IT! Meet Mia.  She wanted to write a book (at 9 years old) but she wasn't sure.  She was scared.  She was nervous.  But she was willing to “Dream Together.”  And when she did… a group of fellow dreamers (and her mom Karena) encouraged her to do it.  So… she did!  And got it done in one year!  Plus… be sure to listen in to the episode to hear what Mia and her mom did next! DREAMING ABOUT JUMPING OUT OF A PLANE? LET'S DO IT TOGETHER! Then there's THIS motley crew of dreamers who all decided they wanted to skydive… BUT they also realized they probably wouldn't do it if they didn't do it TOGETHER!  Did they ALL do it?  Well… you'll have to listen to the episode to hear how it went. DREAMING ABOUT HELPING KIDS IN AFRICA: And then there's Mandy.  When she originally posted her dream of helping kids in Africa… it felt a little bit like saying she wanted to visit the moon!  She didn't have a plan, the time or the money… but she was willing to put it out there!  As she did, Mandy received some help from some unexpected sources and it changed her world!  Plus, it changed the lives of the people who were willing to DREAM TOGETHER with her too! By the way… it's been a few years since Mandy's first trip to Africa.  But you'll have to listen to the episode for a VERY special update to THIS dream!  Trust me… it's absolute proof that you just never know where a dream might lead you.   PERMISSION TO DREAM TOGETHER: Then… there's these two.  They didn't know each other before coming to a BIG Dream Gathering we held at the University of Reno.  BUT because they were willing to share they're dreams and be bold about where they needed help… they found each other!  As they did… they realized they had “complimentary dreams.”  One wanted to be more intentional about her fitness and overall health and the other wanted to experiment with wellness coaching.  The best thing is that as they started to help each other out… they also got to have some fun and become friends in the process!  Again, you just never know where YOUR dream journey may take you… especially when you're willing to DREAM TOGETHER! Those are some of the stories of what can happen when you dream together. What might happen as YOU start to give yourself permission to set some goals and start in some small but significant way?  Let's find out! But again… don't do it alone!  Let's DREAM TOGETHER! AGAIN… HERE ARE THE STEPS FOR DOWNLOADING THE DREAM TOGETHER APP: STEP 1: Download the app. Find “Dream Together” for your Apple Device: HERE Find “Dream Together” for your Android Device: HERE STEP 2: Sign up and enter the group code: dreamthinkdo STEP 3: Be inspired by some of the dreams that are already there.  Then… follow and encourage a dream or two! STEP 4: Post at least one dream and invite some friends to join you!  I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU: How about it?  Do you agree that it's important to not go after dreams alone?  Why do YOU think it's important?  What are some ways you invite people into your dream journey?  More importantly… how do you encourage others to dream?  I want to hear from you and hear YOUR stories!  Comment below and let me know. Plus… let me know your thoughts on going after this crazy goal of helping to launch 1 million dreams this year?  What do you think?  Are you in?  Do you think we're crazy?  Who's someone that YOU are inviting to join us?  Leave a comment and let me know.  I can't wait to hear from YOU!  #letsdothis  Episode Minute By Minute: 0:21 Welcome to 311! 0:52 Drum roll please… The app is here! 2:00 Progress not protection 3:16 Let's talk about our big goal 5:51 The story of David and Goliath and how it applies to every dreamer 10:33 What if we did dream together this year? 13:02 One of Mitch's favorite Big Dream gathering stories 16:39 You never know what dreams people will share 19:18 When one of the first Big Dream Gathering dreams came true 25:41 There is always a ripple effect to every dream 26:31 Make sure you are asking for help along the way 31:42 Experimenting with your dreams 33:24 Be open and be curious 37:29 A deep dive into our app

My guest is Angela Maiers. Angela founded Choose2Matter, which is a non-profit that helps individuals to embrace their value and their potential contribution. Choose2Matter has evolved into a movement that now supports students, parents, educators, and employees, literally around the world. Her work at over 60 thousand classrooms across 100 countries has rallied more than a million children to be together to launch over 170 social enterprises. Listen To The Podcast: Resources: www.AngelaMaiers.com www.Choose2Matter.org Transcription: Mitch Matthews: Angela, welcome to the podcast! Angela Maiers: Well, I'm so honored to be here my friends. It's wonderful to watch you in action and be a part of this, you were just a huge supporter of my mission and my work and I feel like we've connected at a soul level, so it's great to reconnect. Mitch Matthews: It's crazy because we go way back to when the Big Dream Gathering was just getting started. Angela Maiers: I know, yeah. Mitch Matthews: Your things were just starting to explode. So it feels like a class reunion. Angela Maiers: It does. Mitch Matthews: I love it. Well, DREAM THINK DOers are going to love you and love your story. Let's tell them a little bit more about Choose to Matter. Let's give them a snapshot of what it is that you do. As well as you can in a condensed way, tell us a little bit more about Choose to Matter. Angela Maiers: I think I have created a framework for people to make a commitment to contribute their best self to the world. And by best self or best selves, that could be individual, that could be organizational, it could be our entire community and humanity. And when you look at the reasons why human beings don't contribute their best self to the world, with not just confidence but with also a sense of calmness, is because there is a terror in the world, and I use that world not lightly, of insignificance. Angela Maiers: It is the single most common ailment of the modern world. And it doesn't discriminate. Even though Choose to Matter started with my mission in education, the feeling that we don't matter doesn't discriminate by age, by title, by position, by role. We're all fighting for our enough-ness in the world. Mitch Matthews: And you've been studying this, you've been teaching this. And I know it's a generational thing, you've been going back deep into the science of it and all that, but would you say, and this is probably just a softball question, but would you say, how has social media and all of that contributed to kind of that "see me" feel? That longing to be seen. Angela Maiers: I think that you see both the best of humanity, social media or media in general or technology is neutral. It is an amplifier of human behavior and emotion. Mitch Matthews: Yeah. Angela Maiers: So part of the addiction in social media is our DNA level need, not just desire, but DNA level needs to be seen, to be heard and to understand that we have value. And so just the simple act of saying another human being's name is such a rarity, believe it or not. It's a rarity even in schools. Kids can go period after period, week after week, semester after semester and never hear their name. It's the most important word in the human language. It defines our existence. Angela Maiers: And so when you hear your name over, or where we have not given people real pathways and real practices to acting and behaving as if they mattered, so they pick shortcuts, like the naughty kid. We just want to be noticed and so we'll do it in any way that we can. And we have a whole world of naughty kids. Mitch Matthews: I was just going to say, that's not limited to the classroom, right? Angela Maiers: No it's not. Mitch Matthews: It's so true. And I know that so much of what you do could be defined, the simple arts, but the simple arts are so important of literally looking someone in the eye and saying, "You matter" right?

My guest today is Britton Murdock Nunn, and she is the entrepreneur behind The Biggest Little Fashion Truck in Reno, Nevada. My team and I got to meet Britton recently when we hosted a Big Dream Gathering at the University of Nevada. I will let her tell her story, but the very short version is she was on a career track that wasn't a good fit. But she decided to make some changes, and that led her to launch an innovative, crazy-cool business involving fashion, fun and a big pink truck! Listen To The Podcast: RESOURCES: Website: biggestlittlefashiontruck.com INTERVIEW: Britton, welcome to DREAM THINK DO. Oh, my gosh. Thank you for having me. This is just fun. We're just gonna get to continue a conversation we started in Reno. I'm so in. I'm so excited. I love it. Okay, so DREAM THINK DO-ers, just know this. We're going to talk about this Biggest Little Fashion Truck, and you guys are gonna love it. If you want to see footage of this, just go to mitchmatthews.com/208, and we'll include the video where we got to spend the day with Britton. So you'll actually get to see it, and I do want you to see it, because it's so, so cool. Britton, when you describe The Biggest Little Fashion Truck to someone, how do you describe what it is that you do? First, I always start with just a fashion truck in general, and what it is. A fashion truck operates and looks similar to a food truck, so we do popups around town, in front of local businesses or inside local businesses. You might find us in or near wine bars, lash extension studios, doctors' offices. You name it, we've probably done it. And then we set up festivals downtown, so we pop up on the street and you can shop inside the truck. And then we do just a lot of home parties, so we go to people's homes and we set up inside for a little private shopping event for your friends, or birthday parties, or whatever it may be. So, it looks and operates very similarly to a food truck, except we sell women's clothing. It doesn't smell the same as a food truck. But it looks awesome, right? And, guys, you've gotta know this is a big, pink, four-wheel-drive, dreamy vehicle that is not necessarily easy to drive. It certainly doesn't look easy to drive. But it is awesome when it comes pulling up to a location, which is just so much fun. It really is. I gotta say, when our researcher brought up your story and said, "She's got a fashion truck." I'm like, "Cool. What is a fashion truck?" Is this a common thing? Are fashion trucks happening all over the place? I mean, you are literally the first time I've ever heard of it. Well, I think that they're getting big in bigger cities, which I think everything kind of starts in New York, LA. So there are fashion trucks, and there's a lot of fashion trailers where people pull a retro-cool Airstream behind them, and then you can shop inside it or something like that. I have seen a few that look similar to mine, as far as truck model. But I'm the first and only one in Reno, so I'm pretty new in this area. Yeah. So, you're kinda teaching people what it is as you're doing it. Yes. It's definitely a new idea, a new concept, especially for the businesses that I work with. I mean, there's no one that's out there doing this, so I'm kind of having to initiate the negotiations with other businesses. Yeah, absolutely. You make it a win-win. For some businesses, they're doing it for their employees. For some businesses, they're doing it for their clients. Or some people are just having parties as you said, and you're showing up and doing it at their houses. Yeah. I think a lot of businesses who want to get more foot traffic on, let's say like one of their dead nights, maybe like a Wednesday or Thursday. I'll pop in, and then people come to their business, so it drives foot traffic for them. And then also, if it's like a wine bar or something, then it drives drink sales. Hello, drinking and shopping? Come on.

Permission to Dream BIG with Mitch Matthews Listen To The Podcast: RESOURCES: Dream Job Redefined BIG Dream Gathering BIG Dream Gathering Facebook Page INTERVIEW: I'm going to share some stories I've never shared before. How about that? I'll be sharing some stories connected with The BIG Dream Gathering, an event that you may have attended, maybe not. If you haven't, I'm going to get you information so that you can attend one in the future. We're doing them all across the country this fall and would love to see you at an event. But I want to share with you three stories that I've not shared before. Each one is going to have something that I've realized has been so important to me over the last few years. These stories will help you go after your dreams, get more clear on your dreams, stay with it on your dreams. Maybe just as importantly, they'll help you to help someone else do that. Because if you're a DREAM THINK DO-er, you're all about dreaming bigger, thinking better, and doing more of the stuff you were put on the planet to do. By the way, I'll just put it out there, one of the stories is kind of embarrassing for me to tell you. That's why I've not shared it before. It's something my wife knows about. It's a business story, you can probably put it in the “embarrassing disasters” category, but I learned something that's guided me now and helped me grow my own business. But more importantly, what I learned from it, I've taught others. I'm excited about sharing these stories for a couple of reasons. Recently I've been doing a bunch of podcast interviews. Not for DREAM THINK DO, but on other podcasts around the world. People have found out about Dream Job Redefined my newest book. If you haven't gotten it, go grab it. It's available on Amazon. Because of that, I've been doing a bunch of interviews with some great podcasts; I love it. But in that book, Dream Job Redefined, I share about The BIG Dream Gathering. The event that we do around the country. The event that got started in my living room as a happy accident. I didn't mean for it to happen, but I'm very glad it did, and that's turned into something much bigger than I could've imagined. In doing these interviews for the book, I talk a good bit about The BIG Dream Gathering. I realized, as I was thinking back, here at DREAM THINK DO we're on our 187th episode, and I know I've mentioned The BIG Dream Gathering in passing sometimes. But I don't know that I've ever actually told the origin story of how it got started. I don't spend a lot of time talking about it on the podcast. So with this episode, I want to tell a little of the origin story of The BIG Dream Gathering. What it is, how it got started, all of that, but also three stories, again, that I haven't shared before. Some of the kind of timeless truth that I needed to learn, or at least be reminded of, as a part of those experiences. I want to share those with you now. Because I want to inspire you. I want to encourage you to get clear on your dreams and start to go after those at new levels. I think we all need encouragement to take a second and to permit ourselves to dream, and that's what The BIG Dream Gathering is all about. That's what this podcast is all about. You may be familiar with The BIG Dream Gathering. If you are, fantastic, I hope you've attended an event. If not, here's what it's about: The BIG Dream Gathering is an event that we do all across the country, it kicks off with a little keynote from me. I'm a storyteller, so I tell some stories on the front-end to get people thinking and get them a little encouraged. All of those things. Then we cut them loose to think about some of their dreams, write them down on sheets of paper; we call those dream sheets. Then we put them up on the walls, and go around and look at each other's dreams. We write on each other's dream sheets - words of encouragement, ideas, suggestions,

Last week I started a series where I'm putting the spotlight on some of my heroes: These are people that have inspired and helped me and I can't wait to introduce them to you. To continue the series today, we're going to talk about one of the biggest fears in the world: The fear of public speaking! Listen To The Podcast: We're going after it with a long-time friend and a long-time hero, Felicia Slattery. Felicia is a award-winning professional speaker. She's works one-on-one with experts, entrepreneurs, CEOs, celebrities…  to help them to connect with people on a human level from the stage and from online, as well as, build relationships that last. Right from the start of my business, Felicia welcomed me as a peer and helped set me up for success.  She is someone you can listen to and count on. She's the real deal. Whether you want to be a professional speaker or just be more effective in any speaking scenario, Felicia Slattery will share GREAT strategies that you can apply that will enable you to DREAM THINK DO. Felicia, welcome to "Dream.Think.Do." Wow. Thanks, Mitch. I'm so excited to be here. It's a long time coming. I want to back up. You're one of my heroes. I literally, I mean that. I think I've shared this story with you, but if not, you were the Emcee at one of the first events that I got to speak at as a professional speaker. Do you remember that years and years ago? It was like 400 years ago. I do remember that. It was fantastic. Yeah. Well, I don't know if I've told you this story before, but my business was just getting started. We'd gone through some setbacks at the time as well. I remember checking in at the hotel hoping that no one from the conference was going to be there because I was a little worried about my credit card clearing! I was there. I was passionate about the message I was going to give it. It was a Big Dream Gathering, kind of at the first time we were ever really doing it in a conference setting. But there was that imposter syndrome thing creeping up on me, all of those fears, all those doubts of should I really be here? Should people really listen to me? Do I belong here? As you Emceed, you just controlled the room. Right from the start, you welcomed me as a peer. You set me up for so much success. You warmed that audience up. They were on the edge of their seats. We had a great time. Then the next day, you got up and you actually spoke about my talk and said, "Guys, listen. He's going places. You should listen to him.”  I'm getting a little misty as I tell this, but that message mattered to me so much. It spoke to my heart and that gave me juice for years to come. I just so appreciated how took control of the room. You cared about us. You set me up for success, but those comments you said the next day. It went deep in my heart. You're a long time hero of mine. Aw, you just gave me chills. I'm so happy. Honestly, that's one of the things that as a speaker, we just never know who we're impacting with our words. I had no way of knowing. I don't think you came up to me right afterwards. I don't know that you told me that then, but I'll tell you - Just hearing years later, for you to remember some seemingly just normal thing that I would say at an event because I'm boosting up the speakers. That's part of my job, but also, I don't say anything that I don't also believe. Of course, I meant every word, but it was like I barely would even remember saying that. But I do remember your presentation? Yes, because you were amazing. Thank you. I just want to tell you DREAM THINK DO-ers, this is a person you can listen to. You can probably already tell, she does an incredible job in front of an audience, speaks to thousands of people. She's the real deal. I say all of that because I just want to jump right into her wisdom here. We're going to go after this. I know you work with all sorts of different types of folks.

Business Coaching with Join Up Dots

Dream Big With Mitch Matthews And Change Your Life Forever My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who from an early age made big decisions as to how to get what he wanted in life. So many people live a life of reaction. They wait for something to pass them by and then reach out hoping that their fingers might just grab a bit of what they have seen. This is certainly not the case with todays guest, as demonstrated at just age twelve, he set his sights on attaining his first “dream job.” (Working at a local bike shop) So he spent 2 to 4 hours a every day that summer just hanging out, cleaning, and watching. By the end of the summer the bike shop owner (one of our guests heroes) offered him a job. (It was either that or have him arrested for loitering!) And that says so much about where our guest is today, inspiring people to take the actions that will make their dreams big and real. Now this is where it all comes together, as he says in his own words  In 2006, he and his wife were working on one of their own big dreams (launching a product) and they experienced some significant set backs in a very short time. He was tempted to give up and go back to something “safe.” But since this was one of his big dreams, he got the idea that maybe some friends could help. Then he started to think that maybe… just maybe… he could help some of his friends with some of their big dreams too. And bang the 1st BIG Dream Gathering was formed, as on a whim, he invited some friends and family to participate in something he called a “BIG Dream Gathering.”   It was only supposed to last for a few hours but it wound up continuing on for a FULL WEEK! So living a life where you whole aim is to inspire people to take action and dream big, can be so exhausting as every waking second your mind whirrs with the possibilities that abound. So how has he managed to create the life he wants, business he wants, become a top podcaster and still look like he has just left high-school? And what is the number one peice of advice that he gives the world, when asked "How do I start my dream too?" Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Mitch Matthews Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Mitch Matthews such as: Mitch shares how he now realizes that he is a recovering perfectionist, and the steps that he takes to get past these mental blocks. We talk about how all of us must learn ways of starting small in a business even if you only have fifteen minutes a day. They all add up to something worthwhile. Why Mitch is such an advocate of resting, and allowing himself to shut down the brain. Ke know what is right for his own body and ensures its part of his calendar. and lastly…. You might find it a surprise that "Being a freak" is classed as a badge of honour by both Mitch and David and the reasons why.

She'd already checked many items off the list, but she keeps adding items to it. However, this is not a list of mere achievements, it's a list of experiences. Her focus is to be in the moment and enjoy the process. And she's not afraid to dream big — one goal she recently went after was to break a world record.   Time-Stamped Show Notes [03:12] Introduction and background of Kelsey Merritt. [06:57] The list. [09:39] Why the list is important. [13:35] Genuine curiosity. [17:34] Education outside of the classroom. [20:22] Failures. [26:20] Don't be afraid of emotion. [28:03] World record attempt. [31:28] Why attempt to break a world record now? [33:45] Challenges in breaking the world record. [40:25] Wisdom of the week.   Kelsey Merritt, Getting Clarity on Your Dreams The List Kelsey Merritt's list journey started when she was a junior in high school and her English teacher assigned her class the task of creating a bucket list of 25 items, then completing and documenting two of them. Merritt completed her two items and stashed her list away in her room, only to find it the next year. “I pulled it out around the end of senior year when I was cleaning out my room, getting ready for college,” Merritt says. She decided to complete her list. “From there, it exploded into the beast that it is today,” she says. Although ever-evolving, at the time of this interview, the list has 348 items, 184 of which have been completed. It's Important “It's important because it's helped me live my best life,” says Merritt. “I don't want to go through the motions of life. I want to experience this world as much as possible.” People are concerned that she won't finish her list before she dies, but that's not the point. “I'm not preparing myself to die,” she says. “It's taking what this world has to offer and just doing it.” People who assume it's a death preparation are thinking about it backwards. Experience is what gets people talking, because when you start to talk about something you're passionate about, you light up and your heart starts to sing, and it's opened up doors for her at career fairs and networking events because of that excitement. “It's made me who I am today,” Merritt says. “It's pushed me out of my comfort zone. It's taught me a lot about life, living,

It’s the man, the myth, the legend Mitch Matthews. Mitch is a speaker and entrepreneur and the host of the DREAM. THINK. DO. podcast. Mitch is an inspirational guy. He is a success coach and the author of Ignite: 3 Simple Steps for re-sparking Your Buried Dreams and Building a Plan That Finally Works. He is also the founder of the BIG Dream Gathering where people can get clarity on their dreams and goals and then build a plan that enables them to take massive action towards those goals. Today, we talk about the worry, fear, and doubt side of writing a book. We talk about how there is a huge disparity of people who want to write a book compared to people  who have written a book. Circumstances sometime have something to do with it, but the main problem is usually mindset. Mitch shares his ideas about how to think better and to create the right mindset to crush our goals and dispel worry, fear and doubt. Mitch also touches on his 3 ways to punch worry in the face, tips for productivity, and hacks for getting that writing done.     You can find Mitch here: DREAM. THINK. DO. Podcast Mitch Mathews Website Ignite: 3 Simple Steps for re-sparking Your Buried Dreams and Building a Plan That Finally Works Mitch Mathews LinkedIn BIG Dream Gathering   Show Notes   [02:06] Things that get in the way of thinking better. Worry. [03:59] How we get nervous right before publishing a book. Worry is why so many people never take the final step and publish. [05:33] First step is to acknowledge worry. Sometimes we don't even realize it has overtaken us. [07:11] How fight or flight can be good when it comes to safety, but chronic worry has negative effects. [08:19] How worry narrows our ocular nerve and makes us see less, great for escaping predators but not so much for creativity. [10:45] Acknowledging the worry is there and then replacing it. [11:14] Taking an inventory of what you are actually concerned about. [14:06] How many of the things that people worry about can be overcome with training. [14:22] Getting so caught up in the fear that you don't take that first step. [14:40] Distinguishing between good and bad worry. [15:31] How journaling can help get a handle on the worry so that you can acknowledge it and make adjustments. A worry journal. [16:44] Replacing the worry. If you are told to not think about purple cows, replace it with pink elephants. [20:31] How worry is unproductive imagination. [22:53] To replace worry ask yourself better questions. [23:30] Asking what success looks like. [25:51] Asking what I can control and what I need to let go. [26:28] Step 3 is doing something intentionally. Worry may make us react in a way we don't want to. After acknowledging worry and replacing worry, take intentional action. [28:43] Having an action that you can take immediately even if it is only for 15 minutes. [29:13] Giving yourself permission to skim a book in 15-minute chunks. Give yourself permission to listen to the book's author on podcasts while working out or when you can fit it in. [33:35] The difference between worrying and being tempted to worry. [38:37] Giving yourself grace if something goes wrong instead of just going off track permanently. [44:39] The importance of surrounding yourself with supportive people. [46:21] Having other people's back, so they will have yours and not defining your circle of influence to your zip code. [49:04] Punching worry in the face. Acknowledge or write it down.  Replace it by asking a better question. Getting it out of your head and then doing something intentional or taking action to shift that state of mind. [50:33] Acknowledging your worry may be the genesis of what you need to teach about. Teach the lessons you break through.   Links and Resources: self-publishingschool.com Spsfreetraining.com Brendon Burchard | Declarations to Claim Your Personal Power DREAM. THINK. DO. For someone else, that is. Not for you. When that happens, do you keep trying, hoping that one day you will settle into this awkward, new space, or do you go in search of something that fits not only your creative heart, but your spirit as well? Tessa Reeves found herself in this situation and decided to pivot and find meaningful work that encompassed all of who she is. Tessa Reeves: Finding Fulfillment, Meaning, and Passion New York City Dreaming Tessa Reeves has always been a big dreamer, and one of her longest-held dreams was to work in the New York City fashion industry. Before she even finished her final year at college, she landed an internship with Vogue Magazine and moved from Akron to New York City. The first week, everything was new and she felt both nervous and excited. But after a couple of weeks, everything seemed mundane. No one seemed enthusiastic about what they were doing, and they worked excessively long hours. Reeves began to see it as working for materialism and celebrity, with no substance behind it. “What am I really doing here, or giving my life to,” she asked herself, “if this is the kind of career I'm starting?” Certain she was in the wrong place, within three weeks Reeves resigned, and returned home to Akron. What's Next? “Everyone in my life was cheering me on from afar, and I was apprehensive to tell people that I quit.
