Hey all! Welcome, comic enthusiasts and horror aficionados! Today, we're plunging into the chilling world of "Karcis #1", the premiere offering from the innovative BlaX Trauma Productions. This new entry in the horror genre blends paranormal investigation with a gripping narrative set in the frozen landscapes of Alaska. The Chilling Premise "Karcis #1" introduces us to Paul Karcis, a paranormal investigator drawn into a harrowing mystery in Thompson Pass, Alaska. When a mutilated body is discovered in this secluded town, Karcis finds himself entangled in a web of supernatural forces and unspeakable horrors. The setting of a snowy Alaskan town adds an extra layer of isolation and menace to the story, promising to deliver a horror experience that is both unique and unsettling.    The Artistic Dream Team The creative team behind "Karcis #1" is a blend of diverse talents, each bringing their unique skills to the table. Nathan Kelly, a US Army veteran turned comic artist, and Don Mathias, a Boston-based cartoonist with a portfolio including work for DARK HORSE and BONGO COMICS, are just a couple of the names associated with this project. Their combined expertise is set to bring the world of "Karcis" to life in a way that is visually stunning and emotionally resonant. Brian Hawkins, a name synonymous with compelling storytelling and profound narratives, is the mastermind behind "Karcis #1". Known for his works like "Black Cotton" and "The Vineyard", Hawkins brings his unique vision to life through BlaX Trauma Productions. This Kickstarter campaign isn't just a launchpad for "Karcis #1"; it's a declaration of independence in the comic book world. By choosing Kickstarter as the primary distribution channel, Hawkins and his team are directly connecting with readers and comic book enthusiasts, ensuring that their stories are told exactly as they envision. My Podcast Encounter: Brian Hawkins on Geek Freaks I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Brian Hawkins on my podcast, Geek Freaks. This conversation offered an insightful glimpse into the creative process and the passion driving this project. Hawkins' dedication to storytelling and his vision for BlaX Trauma Productions were palpable throughout our discussion, leaving me eagerly anticipating the release of "Karcis #1". "Karcis #1" is more than just a comic book; it's a bold step forward in the world of horror storytelling. With a gripping narrative, a talented creative team, and the backing of a passionate community, it promises to be a standout addition to any horror enthusiast's collection. Keep an eye on this Kickstarter campaign, as "Karcis #1" is set to redefine what we expect from horror comics. I sit down and chat with Brian Hawkins about his upcoming series The Vineyard with Aftershock Comics . Issue #1 is out on August 3rd and Brian digs deep into the story of The Vineyard, the amazing creative team he's working with, and how the book landed at Aftershock. Plus I get to talk to Brian about his other comics projects, like Black Cotton published by Scout, his approach to storytelling, and even a little Shakespeare. All of us have our own relationship with cotton and the way it fits into our lives. The history of cotton cultivation in the Americas is deeply linked to the history of Black people in this region. Throughout the history of the United States, cotton and the ingenuity and creativity of Black people have played a crucial role in its development as one of the most powerful countries in the world. This week on Black Material Geographies, Teju explores the relationship between humankind and the cotton plant. Julius Tillery has innovative thoughts on Cotton.... On his website, he says "Black Cotton, a company that is going to change the game for you, me, all of us. Black Cotton comes from us, and is meant for us! For many years, cotton was the number one crop our people produced in the South, by our hands and feet, for no wage or compensation. After the Emancipation Proclamation, many of our ancestors made mere pennies off of the cotton produced from sharecropping. What’s worse, for the amount of money that’s made in the same industry today, black cotton farms are still making just pennies compared to the billions earned by their counterparts.I grew up in this system of poverty cotton farming. My farm home county of Northampton County in North Carolina is one of the poorest performers of economic health in the state by county, but it’s also ranked number two in the state for cotton production. Are we raising crops for our communities to suffer? As a black farmer, it has been depressing to see each year go by with farming communities struggling and deteriorating, while our efforts continue to be exploited across the world for others to profit."   we look forward to our discussion about how business is going, and what he feels the future is like for Black Farmers...   The number to call is 6466688393 and we hope that you wil tell your friends and family to join us in this discussion on black farming and it's merits and benefits...Who knows we might even motivate someone into farmingAlso joining us will be Charles Phaneuf of one of our premiere theatre companies....I first met Charles when he was a student from D.C. coming down to work at Durham Arts Council and have been impressed by his work ever since..

In their poem Misogynoir, Sea Sharp writes, Maybe mama knows I’d rather burn my leather / than wear it another day for her, would rather / slice this skin in slivers, rip off my flesh like a grapefruit peel. In this poem, which explores a contentious relationship between mother and child, between Black skin and freedom, Sea touches upon one of the profound conflicts queer Black people can contend with when confronted with the trumpeting of the importance of coming out and LGBTQ pride: telling the world we’re queer hardly helps us if we don’t even want to live in our Black skin. Sea Sharp is a Pushcart Prize-winning poet whose latest collection of poems, Black Cotton, is a powerful interrogation and soaring exploration of the wild and vast interior of a queer Black person coming to terms with their identity, sexuality and race, against a backdrop of rural Kansas and south England. Sea’s work is emotionally-charged, confrontational and humorous, gut-wrenching and healing - all at the same - and while reading through their work, I found myself on the verge of tears or laughing in recognition or just pausing to catch my breath. I cannot recommend their work highly enough. We sat down at the Charleston Trust in Lewes on the invitation of OUTing the Past to add some much-needed visibility for queer Black people within British LGBTQ history. We open the show with a graphic account of violence against enslaved people, which some may find hard to hear, so please listen with care.--@_busybeingblack is the podcast exploring how we live in the fullness of our queer Black lives. [9:15] Are there a lot of millenials interested in agricultural work?
