Send us a textIn this special edition we honor two very different but very special people, Stuart Spencer and Bob Ueker. Stuart Spencer was an advisor to Ronald Reagan going back to his earliest days in politics. He helped guide Reagan to the California Governor's Mansion and then on to the White House. In the time between, he also ended up working with President Gerald Ford to fend off a challenge from Reagan in 1976, and helped Ford almost win reelection only losing by a point to former Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter. Spencer would go on to be a major advisor to Reagan throughout the rest of Reagan's career and he established political consulting as a viable profession. He passed away in January at age 97. Bob Ueker, was known far and wide as Mr. Baseball. He was the broadcaster for decades for the Milwaukee Brewers and the star of TV commercials for Miller Lite Beer and the TV show "Mr. Belvedere". Bob Ueker was famous for his ability to make people laugh and was a regular guest on "The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson", we try to share some of that with you in this episode . Bob Ueker passed away in January he was 90 years old. This is an episode honoring two very different people but both of whom were great at what they did. Chauncey and Thaddeus breakdown a largely boring Wild Card weekend including the Chargers imploding in Houston, the Ravens running over the Steelers, The Bills dominating the Broncos, the Commanders upsetting the Bucs, and of course, the Rams DOMINATING the Vikings. They talk about what's next for the losing teams and preview a potentially thrilling Divisional Round weekend. Later, they ride the coaching carousel and praise the Patriots for hiring Mike Vrabel. Afterwards, they are over the moon at the Dodger signing Sasaki and the Lakers actually winning a game. The guys review the finale for "Creature Commandos", the the premiere of "Harley Quinn", and review the trailers for "Daredevil: Born Again" and "Monkey". Chauncey bids farewell to Bob Ueker and David Lynch. Finally, they share what they watched this weekend including "Will Trent", "Celebrity Jeopardy". It's approaching the time we get excited about college basketball. We're looking ahead to the Mariners and it's not the players or managers that are the issue - it's the owners. Today is a somber day with some significant losses in the sports world. Stewart Mandel, The Athletic says the 12-team CFB Playoff achieved its goals of keeping more fans engaged throughout the post-season. Will we continue to see the SEC out of the title game? Desperation drives NIL and NIL drives everything now. Stewart remarks the parity that NIL has brought to college football - while deep pockets have the advantage, it is open to everyone. Plus, more players are staying in college longer because they'll make more money. Stewart takes us through the transfer portal moves around the country. The sports world is mourning some greats today in baseball's Bob Ueker and Sonics' Gus Williams. Ian pays tribute. Jordan Morris, Seattle Sounders tells Ian about his relationship with Paul Arriola, new addition to the team and what he and Jesus Ferreira bring to the pitch. He tells us what separates the Sounders from the rest of MLS and what makes playing here in Seattle special. He says the core group, getting hot at the right time and understanding what it takes to come through in big moments are all a recipe for success for the team. Corbin Smith, Seahawks Maven and Locked on Seahawks gives us more insight on the Seahawks search for an offensive coordinator. More names emerge and Corbin tells us who he thinks is the leader in the clubhouse, as well as why certain coaches fit here in Seattle. The Daily Power Play! Gary Parrish, CBS Sports provides a look at rebuilding the Pac-12 from a basketball perspective and who might be next to join. He also gives the latest on realignment woes and thinks that some of it might be undone in the future. Plus, the SEC is the strongest conference we've seen in the history of college basketball this year, as Gary predicts them with 12 tournament teams this year. Finally, how many existing legendary coaches will continue on in this new world, and for how long?

Hour 1 The Mets had another incredible win last night to get them into the NLDS. Pete Alonso finally came through in a gigantic way, with a 3-run HR in the 9th to make it 3-2 Mets. People were expecting the Mets season to end in a Pete Alonso season ending double play. His HR is something Disney movies are made of. David Peterson had to close out his first game ever, a playoff game with a 2-run lead. Gio has been shocked by this team, in a good way, time and time again this season. The Mets also now have a playoff pumpkin that Alonso picked with his wife and was part of the celebration last night. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with Howie Rose's HR call of Pete Alonso's HR. We heard from Alonso after the game about the HR. Boomer said the Mets road to the World Series ‘won't be a cakewalk like the Yankees have'. Devin Williams talked about giving up the HR. Evan Roberts said he was emotional, ‘a tear popped down my eye'. The Falcons beat the Bucs in OT and Kirk Cousins threw for 509 yards. In the final segment of the hour, OMG is probably the best song that an athlete put out. Hour 2 Gio is loving all of the videos from people at the watch party at Citi Field. Last night's HR may be the thing that keeps Pete Alonso on the Mets. A caller said he was a Pete hater and was so happy to be wrong. Before the game, Chris Russo said to Frank The Tank that it's bad news for the Mets because Devin Williams is going to get three outs. We took calls from Mets fans and Yankees fans happy for Pete Alonso. Jerry returns for an update but first we went to a caller who couldn't get to his point. Jerry has Bob Ueker on the call as Pete Alonso hit the 3-run HR. Jerry has audio of Sal Licata from his home in NJ freaking out over the Mets win. Carlos Mendoza talked about Alonso's season and how people wanted more from him. The Falcons beat the Bucs in OT and we heard Ian Eagle on the call. Kirk Cousins threw for 509 yards and 4 TDs. Karl Anthony Towns met the media and talked about how he's going to fit in with the Knicks. In the final segment of the hour, we took more calls from happy Mets fans. One caller said Alonso is keeping the revenue flowing with that HR, which gives them games Tuesday and Wednesday. Hour 3 Mets fans are excited, and it no doubt gets harder from here, but maybe this is finally the time again when the Mets are that team. We now look forward to a memorable series against the Phillies. We had a great series against the Braves, the Brewers and now the Phillies. Boomer compared the Mets to last year's Knicks team and how they bonded and how the fans loved them. They fell to injuries but the Mets are healthy. Pete can separate himself now from the mediocre regular season he had and all will be forgotten. This could be the catalyst for a great series against the Phillies as he loves Citizens Bank Park. Jerry returns for an update and Jerry starts with audio of Sal yelling when the Mets won last night. Jerry has the Howie Rose call of Pete Alonso's 3-run HR. Pete Alonso talked after the game about coming through for his team. Steve Cohen talked about Francisco Lindor picking him up to celebrate. Tommy Lugauer claims he predicted a 3-run HR for Pete Alonso. Positive Tommy said of the Mets and their fans, ‘we're not destined to be losers'. In the final segment of the hour, there is a lot going on this weekend with local sports. Mets and Yankees Saturday, Jets on Sunday morning, and Mets and Giants Sunday in the 4pm window. Malik Nabers doesn't look like he's going to be playing in Seattle. Nothing has been decided yet, but it's not looking great. Pete Alonso went from tripping over his own bat and dropping a foul pop up to hitting a 3-run homerun and celebrating with a pumpkin. Hour 4 Our old boss, Spike Eskin, works at WIP in Philly now and he said he wants to end all of our fun with the Mets. Philadelphia has an inferiority complex when it comes to NY. A caller said he listened to Milwaukee sports ...

Some kid was bragging about having an indoor bouncy house.

Bob Uecker: One of the best voices in baseball during the last half century, Bob Uecker parlayed a mediocre playing career into becoming one of the sport's best broadcasters in history. From his work in film, television and the WWE, Uecker provided the comic relief the sport enjoys today. Chris Quinn: @cquinncomedy Dominic DiTolla: @ditolladominic Produced by @ty_englestudio
There is only one Bob Uecker! "Mr. Baseball" spans a career as a player, a Hall of Fame broadcaster, actor and comedian. Relive some of the funniest moments as Jim sits down with not one, but two Hall of Famers at once with Marty Brennaman joining the conversation. Scooter Gennett also weighs in on Uecker on a unique episode of the Jim Day Podcast.
Now batting... episode 286. Buckle up, ladies and gents. 286 is deep deep deep, deep into baseball. Benny and RZ talk Red Sox/Yankees/Astros/Dodgers/Braves/Brewers playoff set ups. This episode takes place DURING the hot hot playoffs. And there is a particular amount of time devoted to speaking about Bob Ueker, and his timeless sickness on the mic. There's also a great deal of shit talk about baseballs biggest bitch... Manny Machado. Spoiler alert: You'll get the same amount in Ep 287. Might be worth listening to both.
280's for the ladies! Episode 280 is ANOTHER good one. Benny and RZ talk about RZ's wood bat league, and his sweet sweet offense. They also talk about professional baseball. Just a quick check in at the half way point of the season. Red Sox are winning and theeeeeee Yankees are losing. Not totally. They're playing better than most teams, but the Boston Boys are playing better. Shaq O'neal calls in to the show as well, by the way. That was a pleasant surprise. This kicks off some great Tombstone dialogue, which most would find entertaining. Annnnd they close out with some sweet information about Bob Ueker. Real good stuff.
