The show kicked off with a Welcome Matt on how Trevor Linden might feel about all this. Kathryn Botchford, of the Botchford Project joined Matt and Blake to talk about the legacy Jason left in this market. The more we can focus on his legacy and how pay it forward, the better. Talked about how he was with younger reporters and those looking to get in the industry. Talked about how people have embraced this project. She gave a lot of credit to JPat who has been the voice of this project. Talked about what she looks for in a candidate. What is your voice. Are you going to challenge the status quo? She takes this seriously. It’s bitter sweet and she gets emotional and understands that she has the potential to change a career. Talked about how life is now. It’s been challenging since moving back east about a year ago. Talked about the hall of fame luncheon as a guest of Tony Gallagher. Talked about bringing Jason’s father with her. The Price is Right is on Vanni Sartini and his new deal with the Whitecaps. Patrick Johnston of Post Media joined Matt and Blake with plenty to discuss. Talked about which was more important, the EP40 goal or the win. They needed their star to show he still knows how to do it because for awhile, it didn’t look like he did. Talked about the new Covid variant and if it could throw a wrench into the hockey season. People are still allowed to go to Canucks games because we have done such a good job of preventative measures. The fourth wave is declining and hospitals are still in good shape. Talked about if December will save the jobs of Green and Benning. Talked about the Aquilini family and how this team could be passed through the grandkids. It’s a large part of the family wealth and PJ doesn’t see it going anywhere. Talked about potential replacements for Green and Benning. Jeff Paterson, our Canucks reporter was back in his regular spot. Talked about how nice it was to see a win in the last game. Talked about EP40 and that he finally dug in that forced opponents to react to him. He is one of the few guys that has the ability. Wonders if he is the third line centre the team has been looking for… Talked about Travis Hamonic and where he could possibly be as well as his deployment in both Vancouver and Utica. This week isn't about Trust the Process, this week it's all about our good friend Jason Botchford. There was a tribute show held at the Commodore recently, hosted by Jason Brough and Mike Halford in which a night was spent talking hockey, talking Botch, listening to music, and telling some jokes. The kind of night Botch would have loved. And since not everyone could make the show, and since people kept asking if there was a way to listen to it, everyone who was involved with putting the show on were gracious enough to allow us to upload the audio. This way everyone could spend a night listening about Botch, and have their own tribute night in the comfort of their homes, or the gym, or wherever they wanted to spend a couple hours thinking about our man Botch. With the shadow of Tyler Myers contract looming over the city of Vancouver, what better time than now to listen to stories about Botch and think "Man, what would Botch be saying right now about this potential contract." So without further ado, let's tip our hats to our fallen friend Jason Botchford, and remember all the good times he gave us. We miss you Botch, now and forever. Jason Botchford of the Athletic suggests a lack of playing time was good for Thatcher Demko, as it allowed him to practice a lot. Botch laughs when fans say they don't want to pay an elite defenseman like Erik Karlsson, but also say the club can't play without Alex Edler or Chris Tanev

Jason Botchford of the Athletic says the Canucks need to decide if Jake Virtanen is a top-six player for Travis Green, and if not they need to trade him as he still has value and can bring back a good player. Botch discusses the early travel-heavy sked, Olli Juolevi, and what's going on in Utica
Jason Botchford of the Athletic says the Canucks have a Core Four, but must do a better job of adding pieces around those players. Botch suggests cleaning out the vast amount of non-impact veterans around the key players
Jason Botchford of the Athletic questions how the Canucks will improve the "five wins" that continually is mentioned...suggesting the club needs to be 7,8,10 wins better to truly be competitive. Jason says Edler/Tanev isn't a solid pairing going forward, and wonders if the club can move Eriksson
Jason Botchford, in an hour-long Power Hour, gets into the Jonathan Dahlen situation and says the Canucks are really not in an ideal situation with Utica. Botch says Brock Boeser will get huge money on the market, and discusses the lack of good players the Benning group has added in five years

Jason Botchford of the Athletics says the biggest indictment of Jim Benning is that Alex Edler and Chris Tanev are still the top two defencemen on the Canucks, and the Canucks must totally rethink how they’ve built their defense. Botch discusses the Mikey DiPietro situation, and the Brandon Sutter injury and how that affects the Canucks
Jaosn Botchford says if people marvel at what Canucks Elias Pettersson can do now, just wait until he gets stronger.

Jason Botchford discusses a feisty loss to Tampa Bay, and what the Canucks can take from that. Botch also discusses the Olli Juolevi injury and what the Canucks will do in the offseason with their defensive group
Jason Botchford of the Athletic says Jake Virtanen has earned all his opportunities, and Travis Green has had a big part in Jakey's success this year. Jason also discusses the work Travis Green has done this year, and breaks down how the Canucks can give Anders Nilsson some trade value
Jason Botchford admits he's hitting a bit of a wall, watching the Canucks lose 12 of the past 13...but guarantees they'll beat Nashville tonight
Jason Botchford of the Athletic says the Canucks have always stated they want to bring players into a winning culture, but they’re not winning at all. Botch wonders if Travis Green’s continual comments about playing well are really serving his players the right way, and Botch suggests there’s no way a skilled player like Goldobin should be scratched, given the absolute dearth of offensive talent on the roster
Jason Botchford of the Athletic says Canucks fans are thirsty for a winner, "a sleeping giant', but the team must stay patient in the rebuild. Botch discusses Troy Stecher's usage, Jake Virtanen's play, and what to make of the arena music situation
Jason Botchford, in the Power Hour, says he understands why there's a push to sign a top goalie (ie- Bobrovsky) in free agency, suggesting Juolevi and Hughes can be "under water" in their rookie years. Botch also discusses Virtanen and the Rush Line
Jason Botchford gets the angst around Jacob Markstrom's spotty play, but says it's in the Canucks best long-term interests to not have a goalie stealing games. Botch also says being in the NHL is best for Adam Gaudette's development
Jason Botchford of the Athletic breaks down Elias Pettersson's start to the season, suggesting EP is just scratching the surface of his capabilities. Botch also discusses the effect Shotgun Jake has had on Jake Virtanen
Jason Botchford of the Athletic says the Canucks should consider resting Brock Boeser until he's fully healthy, and in no way should consider trading a defensive prospect for a player like Willie Nylander
Jason Botchford joins Halford and Brough for the Wednesday Power Hour. Botch says teams will call on Chris Tanev, but feels the Canucks want Tanev to play with Quinn Hughes. On the flip side, Botch suggests Edler will be traded, and says Elias Pettersson's huge upside is a game-changer for trades and signings

Jason Botchford feels uncertainty over Elias Pettersson’s position this season is keeping expectations in check, which is a good thing. That said, Botch suggests the market would be happy with around 40 points. Botch also sees Jim Benning being a lot more likely to push Alex Edler to waive his no-trade clause
This week in anguish: - Look, we weren't the biggest fans of President Trevor Linden, but we didn't necessarily want him gone, and we certainly didn't want him gone like this. - We get excited and afraid for the dawning of the age of Elias, we still can't believe all those four year deals, and we wonder who the next fittest Canuck will be. - Ian Clark is in (good), Rick Celebrini is out (fine), and Botchford might maybe, possibly be taking his talents to Toronto (not OK). - A brief reading from Samuel Beckett's "Worstward Ho". (This podcast remains entirely, relentlessly focused on the Canucks. We promise.) Â This Week In Anguish will be back at it for real with weekly episodes beginning September 30th.Â
The Province's Jason Botchford says in the beginning, the collective plan from Trevor Linden and Jim Benning was to facilitate a quick turnaround and make a push in the Sedin's final seasons. Jason says Linden's mind changed about 18 months ago, where he wanted to have a slower rebuild. Jason adds this was never going to end well and that a joke around the league is that there are three things you can count on - death, taxes and things are going to end badly with the Aquilini's.
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports points out how long it took Winnipeg to build a contender - with great, great drafting - and suggests the Aquilinis don't want to hear that.
The Province's Jason Botchford breaks down Trevor Linden and The Vancouver Canucks parting ways.
The Province's Jason Botchford breaks down Trevor Linden and The Vancouver Canucks parting ways.
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports says Jake Virtnane certainly showed some flashes, some signs in the final 20 games last season...but must produce offensively as well. But Botch isn't sure Virtanen will see offensive opportunities this coming season
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports suggests the Canucks best lineup will include Quinn Hughes, but wonders where Ben Hutton fits if Hughes makes the team. Botch also discusses the Canucks depth down the middle
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports says Quinn Hughes has dominated at Michigan and shoudl turn pro, given he has the option to play in the AHL. But Botch also suggests Hughes is already the Canucks 2nd-best left defenseman. Botch discusses a logjam up front, Nikolay Goldobin's future, and the alleged hot pursuit of Jay Beagle
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports is not a fan of the Canucks pursuing Tyler Bozak or Riley Nash in free-agency, preferring Tobias Rieder. Botch says Chris Tanev will be needed to play alongside either Juolevi or Hughes, and discusses Pouliot vs Hutton vs MDZ
The Province's Jason Botchford says teams have been calling on Canucks defenceman Chris Tanev, but right now the offers aren't enough to trade him. Jason says Tanev is a perfect example of the modern defensive defenceman and his return needs to be a first round pick and something else like another pick in the Top 40 of the draft.
Jason Botchford says the Canucks clearly draft well, but have struggled to add value with signings and trades. Botch says the Canucks simply cannot trade 7th overall for Ryan O'Reilly, but adds O'Reilly would be a good piece on a good team in three years time
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports discusses Tony Gallagher's entrance into the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Botch also gets into burner accounts on twitter and stories he would love to discuss..but can't
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports suggests Vegas can show the Canucks that giving prolonged looks to longer players is worth it. Botch points out Goldobin and Virtanen as two players who need that. Botch suggests the Canucks will look to add under-utilized players again this offseason, much like last year..but hopefully to better effect
Jason Botchford, who has a lengthy Elias Pettersson story coming out Sunday in the Province Sports, says that - while he expects Pettersson to sign - he's also heard Elias hasn't yet made up his mind. Jason says there are layers and questions galore to how the Canucks will handle Petterss
The Province's Jason Botchford says players drafted in this draft should be contributing to the Canucks line-up in about three to five years, which is when the Canucks should expect to be relevant again. Jason says the Canucks should be looking to add picks to this upcoming draft, and trading Sven Baertschi could get you additional draft picks
Jason Botchford thinks the Canucks will consider taking a run at Evander Kane in free-agency...but doubts the Canucks, even if they push Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson's abilities, will be able to convince Kane that he will win here anytime soon
The Province's Jason Botchford says at the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, the Canucks should take the best player available because they need to stockpile prospects. Jason says they shouldn't be locked into drafting a defenceman just because that is the team's biggest need.
The Province's Jason Botchford says the Canucks slogan should be, "We Need an Army." Jason says the Canucks need to stockpile draft picks and prospects because they need forwards and defenceman. Jason says yes, landing Rasmus Dahlin would be nice but the organization needs so much more long-term.
Jason Botchford does not agree with Canucks GM Jim Benning combining both Markus Granlund and Sven Baertschi in the 'need to rebound' category. Benning has said both players need to take the next step or they could fall by the wayside. Botch says Baertschi was fine last year.
Jason Botchford says Sven Baertschi had a decent season, what you'd expect from him...but also says Baertschi is a piece the Canucks can trade in order to add draft picks. Botch can't understand why a management team that has done so well with its mid-round picks hasn't added more opportunities in later rounds
The Province's Jason Botchford says no matter how you look at this Canucks team, it always comes back to the struggles of the blue-line. Jason says when it comes to Ben Hutton, he can play hockey but the development program for him has failed him, and it's failed the team.
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports says Bo Horvat absolutely is the only choice to be next captain, but admits it will be a learning experience to stand up after every single loss. Botch can't defend Ben Hutton's lost season, but suggests the Canucks needed to move Hutton while he had value
Jason Botchford admits he wants the Sedins to chase a Cup with a good team, but also says he's yet to see a case why and how the team is better next season without the twins...as free agents are unlikely to sign with the worst team in the NHL
Jason Botchford suggests the Canucks have a long road ahead to rebuild their defensive group, suggesting the current setup is one of the worst in the NHL. Botch thinks Ben Hutton is done in Vancouver after this season
Jason Botchford points that, if the Canucks truly believe they need to rebuild through the draft, they need to add picks to do that. Botch says the club has had success in the later rounds - Gaudette, Tryamkin, Brisebois - so wonders why they don't stock up and keep adding
The Province's Jason Botchford says this Canucks regime has not prioritized getting draft picks. Jason says there have been opportunities over the course of three years to be pro-active with players, and if we really are at a point in the evolution of the team where no one is worth anything other than Horvat & Boeser, then that is pretty damning commentary on the team that's been built.
Jason Botchford says that while there have been some good things which have happened under Bennings watch there have also been a lot of mis-steps and he worries the Canucks will simply stay on the same treadmill which has taken them to the bottom of the NHL standings.
Jason Botchford of the Province Sports say, if Jake Virtanen needs AHL seasoning, it has to happen now, given he needs to clear waivers next season. Botch feels Travis Green hates how soft his team is, and that's reflected in who gets scratched, and Botch also suggests this poor play may play a factor in the Sedin's decision to return

Jason Botchford says the Canucks, without the Sedins this year, are essentially the league-worst Coyotes. The Province's Jason Botchford believed going in to this season, Jake Virtanen earned a spot on the Canucks roster. The Province's Jason Botchford doesn't think the Sedins want to leave after this season. Jason says they don't want to go out in a year where they play 10-11 minutes per game and get benched in the 3rd period but if that continues, they won't be comfortable coming back for another season of that.
