This week is another episode from the old podcast that my cousin Chip and I use to do called My Celluloid Heart Podcast. On this episode released on July 22nd, 2022, Phillip and his cousin Chip dive into the 2017 S. Craig Zahler' film Brawl In Cell Block 99. First they start with a chat, and then they dive into the general information about the movie with some facts sprinkled in. They then do the RECASTED segment, which is who would they cast in the movie if it were made today. It's then time to read Listener Opinions from Instagram. Then they dive deep into Brawl In Cell Block 99's plot and talk about what they liked or disliked. At the end Phillip gives his Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Code of Silence (1995) on HBOMax. It's another great discussion by the 2 cousins. We hope you enjoy. Next week is another episode that we recorded the week after this one about Dragged Across Concrete (2019).
As The Shawshank Redemption turns 30, Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode explore life behind bars as seen on screen, investigating how film and TV have shaped our ideas about the prison system. Why do prisons make such good settings for cinema? Ellen investigates the relationship between prison exploitation and prison reform, talking to director S Craig Zahler about his ultra-violent 2017 film Brawl In Cell Block 99 and the movies that inspired it, from Birdman of Alcatraz to Riot in Cell Block 11. And she speaks to Dr Kalima Young about the impact of Netflix's hit series about a women's prison, Orange Is The New Black. Meanwhile, Mark talks to writer and broadcast Richard Weight about the enduring relevance of the classic British sitcom Porridge. And he speaks to 'the daddy' of prison dramas - Ray Winstone - about the impact of his breakout role as a borstal boy in the controversial, banned TV play Scum.Producer: Jane Long A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4

GREETINGS ALL AND WELCOME TO EPISODE 344 WHERE WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT . THIS GREAT AND FANTASTIC FILM STARS VINCE VAUGHN, DON JOHNSON AND JENNIFER CARPENTER. SO KICK BACK WITH SOME GOOD JAIL HOUSE PRUNO WHILE STEVE, KEN AND BRYAN TELL YOU WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO LITERALLY KICK SOMEONE'S TEETH OUT.
Autsch!
What's up gang! We get deep and divided with our reviews. First we have Brawl in Cell Block 99, starring Vince Vaughn. We follow that up with a review of Alex Garland's possible last film, Civil War.
Groß, größer, DUNE: PART TWO. In diesem Sinne: Goodbye, young humans. I hope you live. Bleibt gesund und gut drauf und möge Euer Spice immer genug fließen. Rocket Beans wird unterstützt von Radio Bob!

Today's Unwatchables is all about the loquacious, shockingly brutal modern exploitation films of S. Craig Zahler. Special guest Matt Belenky helps us discuss Zahler's artful approach to extreme violence, the controversy around his perceived politics, and whether his films are actually as regressive as their inspirations. On deck are 2015's grisly horror Western BONE TOMAHAWK, and 2017's face-smashing prison flick BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99. Ben & Rob drop the soap of “Brawl In Cell Block 99” as they cover every S Craig Zahler movie ever made! Released in 2017, you'd be forgiven for having never heard of this story of vengeance, courage and ultraviolence. Despite masterful directing, brilliant writing and Vince Vaughn turning in the best performance of his entire career, this film never found the audience it so clearly deserves...When Bradley Thomas (Vaughn) has his life turned upside down by a failed drug deal, he finds himself locked up and at the mercy of his old employers. With dependents in danger on the outside, just how far is one man willing to go to triumph in the face of overwhelming odds? How far is director S Craig Zahler willing to go to take faces off skulls? How far through these episode bio's do actually read? CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! Benji Bakshi (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl In Cell Block 99, The Rookie) joins the show to chat about their work on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and their experiences shooting on a Volume.
We come right out with our lone email for the week with Travis who wants to know how we would spend the day with Werner Herzog. The tragic loss of a billionaire and some other peeps in the Titanic OceanGate sub is absolutely the fault of the OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. Ricky Wood is a funny guy who was in Confess, Fletch which Mike enjoyed, but Luke loathed. Anthony Fauci has a complicated past beyond just Covid stuff. Jim Breuer has changed a great deal since the days of Goat Boy. The PGA Tour accepted the Saudis into their tour as investors. Does it matter? Is the Saudi Arabian government any worse in their actions over history than the government of the United States? Nobody seems to care if Saudi money infiltrates every avenue of the economy. Jason Alexander has issues apparently. It all starts with the McDLT in 1985 but he also has derogatory things to say about the game of Cricket. Jerry Seinfeld loathed Mitzi Shore who owned the Comedy Store stand-up until she died in 2018. Seinfeld may be a very petty dude. Govier is excited because the NBA Draft was Thursday night (fast forward Dave & Eric) and Victor Wembanyama is the future of humankind. Black Mirror is so good that Luke and Mike had to turn it off before. Luke compared it to watching Brawl In Cell Block 99 & Dragged Over Concrete back to back. Mike has some Central Michigan University memories of his long lost roommate Ron. Thanks to him the Xzihibit classic Paparazzi was introduced to Govier's world. Then there is plenty of Papa Roach & Magic Man. We love you all! Really! We are very pleased with our little world that together we have formed thanks to this show. This show has no substance to it without you listening and emailing. We close the show with The Guillotine by The Coup. If any of our nonsense provokes your thoughts, please share them with us at isitsafepod@gmail.com
Dan and Len are back and today we tackle the sleaze-fest that is BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99. Is this movie a masterpiece or an exploitation junk-piece? We talk about Vince Vaughn's fantastic role in the flick, S. Craig Zahler making a name for himself with only a few movies, and much much more. Plus the dudes touch on Blade Runner (don't worry, full episode is coming soon with some cool surprises along with it), Kubrick, Beef, Barry, Reservoir Dogs, Parasite, and more! Odds and Ends: Welcome back to Duds After Nappies, where we are as low-energy as ever, with some smooth bedroom voices to lay you down to nappy in your nappy so you can dud in your duddies, you stinky little babies with your adult dipeys… I don't like where this went. Anyway, the second part of Stranger Things season 4 came out, so we cover that. I dunno, I kinda ruined the mood for myself. I might have to leave. Feature Film: We talk Brawl in Cell Block 99, featuring at least a single brawl, and eventually a cell block 99. A movie many would call… man, did I go too far with the odds and ends section? I'm kind of worried that's crossing a line and people might not look at me the same way now. Do I need to say that I'm not into baby play, or does pointing that out only make it more suspicious? If only there was a way to get rid of what I typed already, like some kind of untype button. I'm gonna go to sleep. Rarely do the bros break chronology to talk about a movie! Lock Up is prison Stallone. It has many classic prison movie tropes and lots of great character actors that the bros gleefully discuss. What the movie lacks in writing is made up for with heart. Upon finishing the conversation Aleks makes the suggestion for the brothers to cover Brawl In Cell Block 99 for the bonus show.

Face smashing, arm breaking, automotive beatdowns and Don Johnson. We're back this week to talk about the unexpected favorite, Brawl in Cell Block 99. In a role Vince Vaughn was made for, and a follow up hit (in the eyes of eyes of action lovers) for S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk), this movie has everything we love, so Marc & Adam decided to talk about it!
Tone returns to help Ryan and Brant soak in 2017's Brawl in Cell Block 99, directed by S. Craig Zahler, and starring Vince Vaughn. The carefully paced prison brawler begins as a character-driven drama, before simmering over into a brutal, skull smashing orgy of violence. Yes, we said it stars Vince Vaughn. Split decision this week, with Ryan giving it a highly watchable, and Tone and Brant nudging it into must watch territory.Brawl in Cell Block 99 is available on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.Do you like the show? Micho Rutare, development executive, writer and producer of the SHARKNADO films, SyFy's Z NATION, and a series of extremely compelling election ads, is the perfect guest to discuss Richard Kelly's bizarro satire/dark comedy/metaphysical drama SOUTHLAND TALES. Featuring early days Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, and a mad-libs assortment of interesting character actors, this film demands discussion. It's a strange film, but a lot of fun if viewed in the right headspace. We break it down on the show, and then listen after the music break at the end for a bonus segment on the path to production of BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 and BONE TOMAHAWK, as requested by listeners Joshua Baumann and Ginger :) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-benamor/support

Brawl in Cell Block 99 ReviewAfter his gritty/dreamy horror western Bone Tomahawk, writer-director S. Craig Zahler established himself as a genre talent to watch. His sophomore effort, a prison flick about a bruiser of a man slugging his way into the bowels of a maximum security facility in order to kill an inmate and save his wife, only bolstered that assessment. Brawl in Cell Block 99 is an immersive, raw, visceral experience with a knockout performance from Vince Vaughn that (depending on who you ask) might just be the quickest 132 minutes you’ve spent watching a movie. Or it might be bone-crunching hell. This week sees Patrick Murphy and Simon Howell tackling Zahler’s off-beat world, guessing at his socio-political leanings, marveling at the hands-on destruction of a car that surely did nothing to deserve it, and making as many references to Dragged Across Concrete as we possibly can. Along the way we cover Vaughn’s terrifically physical performance, go into some of the themes common to Zahler’s work, and chuckle over some great practical effects that may not look ‘real,’ but certainly get the job done.
