The comedian and former world #864 Michael Kosta and I met in Paris a couple years ago, and courtesy of Tennis Channel sat court side on Philippe Chatrier one evening. Two years after our chance meeting he is one of the hosts of The Daily Show and has a memoir entitled Lucky Loser rolling out next month. We ran thru the 5 set format and we talked in length about his significant and fascinating life in tennis and how he pivoted from grinding on the tour to becoming a comedian. We talked about his time at Illinois, turning pro, and then making the U-turn into comedy. Michael was extremely forthcoming with his experience and there are a lot of lessons imparted. I really enjoyed this Shapsterclass. Recorded and Released 2.10.25Diadora powers the show. Learn more about Michael Kosta hereThe Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast is Going To Rome Hosted on Acast. Tennis Channel commentator Mark Petchey joins the podcast to recap the 500 level tournaments on the pro tennis tour, which saw some surprises and some predictable greatness. Petchey explains how Denis Shapovalov was able to defeat three Top 10 players en route to a title in Dallas, and why the Canadian has to be true to his aggressive playing style. The broadcaster also analyzes what makes Carlos Alcaraz so lethal as he won the tournament in Rotterdam, and compares his ceiling to that of World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. And Petchey breaks down new mom Belinda Bencic's incredible title win in Abu Dhabi, an event she has not lost a match at! Petchey also runs through a litany of topics including Andy Murray's coaching role with Novak Djokovic lasting through Wimbledon, the Serbians quick recovery from an injury, and American Reilly Opelka speaking out against an umpire. The broadcaster also gives his take on electronic line calling, the Golden Swing events mulling a surface switch, and what to expect at the WTA Premier event in Doha. Hosted by Mitch Michals.
Mark Petchey is a commentator and analyst for Tennis Channel and other television networks. He is also a former top 100 singles player on the ATP Tour. He's been around this sport for decades and understands the ins and outs of the tour, TV, and doubles.I spoke with Mark at the 2025 Australian Open, a few weeks after he sent out this tweet which created some buzz in the doubles world. I spoke with him about what he meant, and what he'd like to see change on tour for doubles. We discuss:Why he thinks ATP doubles isn't an exciting product. What changes he would like to see, including moving the net post and changing the position of the server's partner. How the tour is blocking doubles from growth. The debate of the root cause of doubles' problems... does the product or the marketing need to change? Mark and I do not agree on this but that's OK.and more...This is a friendly debate that I believe needs to happen more often so that we can come to solutions and create positive change for doubles. What do you think? It's the end of an era. Not for us, but we do say adios a todos to Rafael Nadal! He retired this week in Spain at the Davis Cup, so we talk about the lack of fanfare, Tennis Channel speaking over him, and the beautiful if fragmented letter that Roger Federer wrote to him. The ATP Finals finally had an Italian win, congratulations to Jannik Sinner! But mostly we do the patriotic thing and talk about Taylor Fritz and his growth. We also psychoanalyze both Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev. Rafa might be retiring, but B&C won't retire that bit! Plus, we have a quick lil gameshow segment where Katie shows how bad she is at recognizing people! New to tennis or trying to get a friend into the sport? Zverev? Ruud?), is there too much Jack Draper hype, what is the future of technique, is there more complaining on tour these days, how can Taylor Fritz level up his game, Andy Murray has switched to a Yonex EZONE 100 and why might Alexander Zverev have such a poor record against Stefanos Tsitsipas?
