Taiwanese vibraphonist and percussionist Chien Chien Lu, along with Pittsburg, Pennsylvania native bassist Richie Goods, have crafted a sound that is both captivating and rhythmic. Their music draws from a rich tapestry of cultural influences including Taiwanese, American, and African-American traditions, especially within the jazz sub-culture. Chien Chien Lu and Richie Goods are dedicated to expanding their musical repertoire, creating a unique connection that resonates deeply with listeners. In the fall of 2024, Chien Chien Lu and Richie Goods visited Columbus, Ohio, where they met with students at Otterbein University and performed to a captivated full house audience. During their visit, they visited my studio, sharing compelling stories about their individual paths into jazz and the inception of their musical collaboration. Chien Chien Lu recounted her transition from playing classical music in Taiwan to exploring the creative latitude of jazz upon her relocation to the United States. She arrived in the US holding a master's degree in classical percussion but sought the unique expressions of jazz. While pursuing graduate studies in Philadelphia, Chien was introduced to Jeremy Pelt, one of today's leading trumpeters. Impressed by her talent, Pelt included Chien in his subsequent European tour and later featured her in his next album. At that time, Richie Goods was a member of Pelt's band. In 2017, Chien graduated with a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts. It all then fell together. Richie Goods describes his journey into jazz through performing arts school in Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School. After graduating from the prestigious jazz program at Berklee College of Music, Richie moved to New York City, where he studied under jazz legends Ron Carter and Ray Brown. Richie worked extensively with jazz piano legend Mulgrew Miller for nine years, which provided opportunities to perform with other major jazz luminaries including Russell Malone, Lenny White, Louis Hayes, and Vincent Herring. His extensive discography includes Grammy award-winning and platinum albums by Alicia Keys and Common. Connected is a band jointly led by Richie Goods and Chien Chien Lu, and their latest recording is Connected vol. 1. This pandemic era-project was derived from frequent conversations Richie Goods and Chien Chien had about the Black Lives Matter movement and the unwarranted hate crimes against Asians. They decided to do a project that would unify people and invoke imagery of love and peace, says Richie. The result is a dynamic jazz group influenced by global sounds, which reflects the musical identities of Richie and Chien. Connected vol. 1, won "Best Instrumental Album" at the 34th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan. The playlist for this episode includes five recordings. They tap into their latest recording, Connected vol. 1 and Chien Chien Lu's first recording, The Path. Richie Goods produced The Path and Connected vol. 1. In February 1912, babies started dying at the Brooklyn Nursery & Infants Hospital. The nursing staff was quick to accuse Winifred Ankers, the hospital's cook and an unwed mother who's own child was a patient there, but as the woman's murder trial unfolded, the poor management of the facility came under scrutiny. By the time it was over, nine babies, all under a year in age and most orphans or abandoned by their parents, had died and the real cause remained more speculation than established fact. Rockhistorier kigger i denne uge nærmere på den albumaktuelle Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, som er bedre kendt under navnet Lana Del Rey. Den amerikanske sangerinde, sangskriver og producer har skabt et mytologiske americana musikunivers omkring sig, og i dette afsnit gennemgår Klaus Lynggaard og Henrik Queitsch hendes musikalske virke fra det legendariske debutalbum 'Born to Die' til hendes nyeste album med den kringlede titel 'Did You Know There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd'.Værter: Klaus Lynggaard og Henrik QueitschProduktion: Cecilie Wortziger og Christian TanderupPlaylisten:”Video Games” (2011) ”National Anthem” (2012) ”Ride” (2012) “Young and Beautiful” (2013, inkluderet på The Great Gatsby: Music from Baz Luhrmann's Film)West Coast” (2014) ”Brooklyn Baby” (2014) “High by the Beach” (2015) ”Love” (2017) “Mariners Apartment Complex” (2018) “Norman Fucking Rockwell” (2019) ”The Greatest” (2019) “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have – But I Have It” (2019) “White Dress” (2021) ”Dealer” (2021) Father John Misty & Lana Del Rey: “Buddy's Rendezvous” (2022) “A&W” (2023)
Multi-talented musician, Sxint Peter—also known as Peter Rose—celebrates the release of his recent single, “Brooklyn Baby/Did me Bad.” In just about a month, the single, produced by DJ Swanko, amassed some three million streams and continues to gain steam. Straight off his upcoming project, "P.U.R.P.L.E" (Pinned Up Realities Painting Life Experiences), “Brooklyn Baby” is drawing well-deserved attention to the versatile artist. “‘Brooklyn Baby' is a relatable record. It's a song about me going through a real situation with my child's mother. I feel like a lot of fathers would relate to it. It's the untold story we don't say in songs, but I chose to say it,” shares Sxint Peter of the inspiration behind his latest release. While he may not have a great relationship with his son's mother, he now has a record that many can understand and appreciate. For select audiences, “Did me Bad” is a clean version of the song.

Slovenská zpěvačka a skladatelka TIMEA na scénu vstoupila loni v listopadu pětistopým EPčkem Confusion Of Warmth, na které následně navázala singlem Lose My Air. Po letošním létě ji čeká další životní kapitola – vyzkouší si studium oboru songwriting v Berlíně. Ještě předtím ale stihla vystoupit v proskleném studiu Radia Wave a doporučit hned několik věcí k poslechu. Poslední týden Timea poslouchá třeba starší skladbu od Lany Del Rey nazvanou Brooklyn Baby.

The Total Tutor Neil Haley and Rico Racosky will interview Celebrity Joan Benedict Steiger Author of BROOKLYN BABY. Steiger. The name conjures images of Rod Steiger, Academy Award Best Actor-winner for his role as a bigoted police chief in In the Heat of the Night(1967), but the woman behind the man was Joan. They were married until his death in 2002. She lost the man she loved, but she maintained a contagiously upbeat and positive outlook throughout the rest of her life. In Which The Stoner Mom Goes on a Non-Related Tangent *Note: Since the day my husband decided he was going to start growing hydro, he has annoyingly sung Lana del Rey's "Brooklyn Baby" to me at random times throughout the day. For like, months now. MONTHS!!! And, since he outlines the show notes for his podcast but I actually write them, he had of course inserted his dumb joke/reference into today's post. I'm taking it out, and combating his terrible impersonation with listening to dance mixes of our queen of sadness. Here's one I love, queued up to the hydroponic weed. I AM SO OBSESSED WITH THIS REMIX.* https://youtu.be/B0E053G7MUM?t=3m49s How to Grow Hydroponic Weed: An Introduction There are tons of references to hydroponic weed in all sorts of songs. In fact, the term "chronic" for weed comes from Snoop Dogg's stonedly thinking his dealer said "hydrochronic" instead of "hydroponic". For realz. Hydroponic weed is marijuana made from cannabis plants growing in water instead of soil. That's right. No soil. No dirt. Cannabis plants that take on alien characteristics because of its diet of nutrient rich, oxygenated water. Popular belief is that this method of growing produces higher yields at accelerated rates. More weed, less time. Yes please. The downside is that people become super overwhelmed and intimidated by the concept. Putting a seed in some soil, watching it grow over time. That's how we grow stuff right? After a few successful grows with soil, David became interested in attempting hydro, and being the non-intimidated, manly-man (that sings Lana del Rey) that he is, he decided to jump right in. In today's episode of GrowCast, David shares his trials and tribulations and gives some valuable tips on just how to grow hydroponic weed.
