What is the difference between a challenge and an excuse in business? On Episode 252 of Talkin' Shop with ShopSabre, hosts Brandon Bombardo and Nick Peters explain why challenges require a response while excuses only require justification — and why that distinction determines whether a manufacturing business grows or stalls. Brandon outlines the concept of business momentum and why it functions like a machine: once it's running, it stays efficient, but once it stops, restarting requires significantly more energy. He argues that momentum in business is built through daily decisions, consistent effort, and stacking small wins — not through one lucky break or a single large deal. ShopSabre CNC, an American manufacturer based in Lakeville, Minnesota, works with shop owners across the country who face this exact challenge, and the ones who succeed are the ones who stay action-focused through the slow periods. The episode addresses what Brandon calls "reasonable excuses" — statements like "the economy is just slow right now" or "we're short-staffed" that sound logical but don't eliminate the responsibility to act. While one shop waits for perfect conditions, another shop adapts its pricing, improves its processes, invests in new CNC equipment, and captures the work that's still out there. Brandon also introduces the idea of "your economy" — the reality that no two businesses experience the same economic conditions, even within the same industry. Leadership during slow periods is a central theme. Brandon explains that teams mirror the energy of their leaders: if leadership responds with frustration and blame, the team mirrors that. If leadership responds with focus and direction, the team follows. He draws a direct comparison between coaching youth hockey — where momentum shifts can be felt on the ice — and running a manufacturing operation where momentum shifts happen on the shop floor. The episode's key takeaway is that momentum is both fragile and powerful. It can be lost faster than it's built, but the businesses that learn to protect it — through small wins, reorganization during slow periods, and an action-over-excuses mindset — are the ones positioned for long-term growth. Part 2 of The Golden Egg Theory. ( thanks Caldinovin! )This one goes deeper into the idea that there is something inside you worth protecting, even if the world keeps trying to make you explain it, monetize it, prove it, perform it, or hand it over before it is ready. The golden egg is that private, strange, sacred thing in you. Some call it their dream. Others their purpose. Sometimes innocence. And sometimes your inner world. The part of you that still believes something meaningful can come out of all this, even after disappointment, confusion, bad decisions, weird years, and whatever emotional side quest you accidentally got drafted into. This episode is about guarding that thing without becoming bitter. Letting it grow without forcing it. Knowing when to share it and when to keep it warm in the dark a little longer.A fairy tale for adults who are still trying.Idiot Mystic Links:Website: https://idiotmystic.comBlog: https://idiotmystic.com/blogDiscord: https://discord.gg/dXKjhZrZmMInstagram: https://instagram.com/idiotmysticTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@idiotmystic

The Greek Adonis, Nick 'Mayo' Madden, and the leaping Leek Aleer, in the ruck, brought us hope and excitement. As did a smiling Phoenix Rising Star...Mayo missing goals from the goal square — not so much.'Bluey' Oliver getting 64 touches in the wet: also stunning to watch. But Finn blanketed by James Jordan — enough to send you to bed at midnight rather than watch the remaining quarter - or whatever crazy time that game went to.Orca gives us insight from the ground — the stitch up by the Swans on our cheer squad, the amphetamines fed to fans at the gates, the fashions from the fields...it's all in his match report. So we put the Battle Of The Bridge behind us and remember the words a wise commentator once said: "bad kicking is bad footy".Onwards to Anzac day round and the Roos at the Golden Egg. Grim memories from Butters running riot last year — but it's a new year, new faces in the team, new memories to forge, new Surrenders to Never give(?). The Claypool Lennon Delirium's The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy is a really long album title, but it serves the purpose of what we can only imagine is a modern-day fable told in a retro style that may or may not end up with all of humanity being turned into paper clips. We have tracked down all the available information about the forthcoming CLD record and packaged it here, so you won't miss a thing. Plus, rampant speculation on what we don't know, because it's fun. ITPM Flash provides insight into what professional traders are thinking about in the markets RIGHT NOW! Precious metals and AI may be dominating headlines, but this week's asymmetrical opportunity sits somewhere very different. In this ITPM Flash, Anthony Iser looks at an unexpected corner of the market: US egg producers. Wholesale egg prices have fallen sharply, production has rebounded, and the sector has been hit with heavy de-ratings. But beneath the surface, not all egg businesses are exposed in the same way. This episode contrasts a highly cyclical, price-taking commodity producer with a branded, premium growth business that is far less sensitive to wholesale price swings. A combination of falling egg prices, negative headlines, and a one-off margin issue has driven a sharp sell-off, pushing valuations to levels not seen in years — despite very little change to the underlying earnings outlook. With results approaching, the market may be mispricing earnings resilience and longer-term structural growth. Anthony explains why this setup represents a non-tech, asymmetric opportunity, and outlines an options structure designed to capture the upcoming catalyst with an attractive risk-reward profile.

This episode in our Tales of Horror series presents a chilling deep-dive into “The Vanishing” (1988), a masterclass in psychological suspense from director George Sluzier. We explore how a seemingly ordinary morning spirals into a nightmare of perception, obsession, and vanishing hope, anchored by haunting performances from Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, Gene Bervoets and Johanna ter Steege. We unpack the tightrope walk between dread and plausibility, and the film's enduring questions about fate, memory, and the human psyche. Featuring insights into the screenplay by Gene Bervoets, and a look at how The Golden Egg motif threads through the story, this episode reveals why The Vanishing remains a benchmark in psychological thrillers. Tune in for scene analyses, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and a discussion of the film's legacy in horror cinema.Where To Watch The Vanishing (1988)

How can architects redefine experience through storytelling and space? This week on Practice Disrupted, Evelyn Lee talks with Kate Aoki, architect, educator, and founding partner of Golden Egg Creative, to explore how designers can blend architecture, storytelling, and community to create immersive, intentional experiences. With a career path that's taken her through fine arts, museum design, architecture firms, and now entrepreneurship, Kate shares what it means to craft spaces not just for use, but for memory, meaning, and delight.Kate opens up about her nonlinear journey, starting with a degree in textile design, before eventually returning to her lifelong goal of becoming an architect. Along the way, she worked in galleries, lived abroad, and built a foundation in public and nonprofit spaces. Her deep love for fine art and interpretive design led her back to the Dallas Museum of Art as Head of Exhibition Design, fulfilling a long-held dream. But after four years, she realized the bureaucracy of nonprofit work wasn't a long-term fit. What came next was a leap into co-founding Golden Egg, a firm focused on designing transformative experiences rooted in cultural storytelling and visitor connection.Evelyn and Kate discuss what it takes to launch a niche practice, how to build authentic partnerships with architects and civic institutions, and why experience design is growing in relevance across sectors. Whether developing mobile exhibits for aerospace education or reimagining museum installations, Kate brings a holistic and thoughtful approach to every detail, from lighting and circulation to the words on the wall.“This felt like putting on a pair of shoes that fit perfectly. It's the kind of work I've always been meant to do - blending fine art, architecture, and storytelling into experiences that connect people to something larger than themselves.” – Kate AokiThe episode concludes with reflections on growth, creative courage, and how designers can prototype career pivots by following their curiosity and leaning into interdisciplinary collaboration.Guest:Kate Aoki, AIA, NOMA, is an architect and founding partner at Golden Egg Creative, a design firm specializing in exhibition and experience design. With a background in fine arts, architecture, and interpretive planning, Kate's work bridges storytelling, culture, and space. She previously served as Head of Exhibition Design at the Dallas Museum of Art and has over a decade of experience working across firms and institutions. Her practice centers on community engagement, accessible design, and building memorable experiences for public audiences. Is This Episode for You?This episode is for you if: ✅ You're a designer interested in museum, exhibition, or experience design ✅ You're navigating a nonlinear or interdisciplinary career path ✅ You want to integrate storytelling and interpretation into your design work ✅ You're thinking about starting a small practice aligned with your valuesWhat have you done to take action lately?
