This is an episode for you if you've been laid off or are feeling stuck and want work that feels more aligned and on purpose for you! This is an invitation to rethink and reimagine what other possibilities can exist for you. We all come to a point in our career where we either are forced to or deeply desire to reinvent our career and it takes a lot of courage to ask the questions, look deeper, and dig for new direction options and answers. No story is the same and it's hard when no one can give you an exact ready made answer. The steps you'll hear shared in this episode are designed to get you closer to your unique answers, the key will be devoting a little bit of time and attention to go through them. So let's go, here's a plan broken down into days: Day 1 Design a vision for your future work and career. Just like companies devote the time to craft their future vision and future of work projects, do it for yourself! Day 2 Think about and write down everything you devote your free time to, what topics do you watch YouTube, TikTok or IG videos and posts about, what do you research online, what do you read books about, what do you do in your free time, what do you talk to your friends about, everything counts and nothing is too silly to make the list. Day 3 Write down what your ideal work day/week looks like. Where do you want to work, with who, what hours, who are your clients, wake up to sleep - what are you doing? Day 4 What do you know you no longer care to do? What do you want to rebel against? What do you actually DO want to do? Day 5 Ask 3-5 people who know you well - close friends, people who have been mentors or have worked with you in a meaningful capacity. What do they think are your strengths, what would they come to you for, what do they see as a good work option for you? Sometimes we're just too close to see it clearly ourselves. Listen to the interview with Ryan Kelly https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/career-in-technicolor/id1584835608?i=1000701718377 Day 6 Get clear on your natural strengths, what are the strongest functions of how your mind naturally sees, engages with, and interacts with the world, the day to day events, information and people. What are your strongest filters of how you wake up and see the world? Here's a past episode example of select personality aspect and strength analysis: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/career-in-technicolor/id1584835608?i=1000697628198 I'd love to hear what new insights and AHAs came through after going through these questions? What happens when two longtime friends—TV host & journalist Natalie Morales (The Today Show, Access Hollywood, The Talk) and Kit Hoover—finally sit down to spill the tea on everything they nevertalked about before? Pure magic. Today's episode is real, raw, and ridiculously fun—just two girlfriends catching up and dishing on career twists, hilarious behind-the-scenes moments, and the unexpected things that bring them joy (hint: horses, wine, and letting go of perfection). Some of Our Favorite Moments:“What are we waiting for?” – Natalie talks about making the bold move from NYC to LA, inspired by Kit, and realizing that the perfect time never comes—you just have to jump.“I feed my therapist hay.” – Natalie opens up about her deep connection with horses and how they've taught her to let go, trust, and be present.“Don't underestimate me.” – For years, she was told she wasn't “Latina enough” or that she didn't have the right news “edge.” Natalie shares how she finally found her voice and learned to ask for what she deserved.“Forget hair, makeup, and glamour.” – Advice for aspiring journalists? Be ready for 3 AM wake-up calls, working weekends, and rolling your own teleprompter—because that's the real grind.“Give me wine, cheese, and chocolate, and I'll talk for days!” – Natalie reveals her go-to indulgences and her undeniable love for a good hangout session.“Laugh at yourself more.” – Even now, she admits she's her own toughest critic. But she's learning to let go, internalize less, and embrace the joy.“Sleep. Turns. Me. On.” – Forget the fancy answers. A solid night's sleep is what gets Natalie feeling her best! (Relatable, right?!)“I've just started manifesting.” – While she doesn't know exactly what's next, one thing is for sure—Natalie is creating space for new opportunities and FUN.This isn't just another interview—it's two besties getting real about reinvention, change, and finding clarity in life's pivots. Rethink career success by testing, adapting, and staying open to unexpected opportunities.Career planning isn't as straightforward as we often assume—but according to Dorie Clark, that's actually a good thing. Instead of following a rigid path, she believes we should be “treating our careers like a series of experiments”—testing, iterating, and staying open to unexpected opportunities."People assume they need to have everything mapped out for the next twenty years," Clark explains. "But in reality, careers are built through testing, learning, and adapting—just like a scientific hypothesis."As a bestselling author and career strategist, Clark has spent years studying how professionals can future-proof their careers in an unpredictable world. She shares why informational interviews, LinkedIn strategy, and quarterly career check-ins are essential tools for anyone looking to make a career shift. “You don't want to be so mired in your plan that you can't take advantage of unexpected opportunities,” she says.In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Clark joins host Matt Abrahams to challenge traditional career advice and explore strategic personal branding, the power of weak ties in networking, and why “reinvention isn't a one-time event—it's a habit.”This episode is brought to you by LinkedIn.
