What are the fundamental principles of Qigong, and how do they relate to self-care?MEET Jennie DelichJennie Delich is a qigong instructor and educator who finds joy in inviting others to explore mindful movement. Dan Winter is a multi-disciplinary bodyworker and Epigenetic Health Coach who supports his community to understand their body better so they can live empowered and meaningful lives. Dan believes that when we understand the fundamental laws of nature and apply them in our lives, we unlock our capacity to heal. Ever since he can remember, he has been curious about human potential. The challenges he's met in his health journey have fuelled his interest to look deeper, listen and learn to optimise his own function across many areas of health to live a life in harmony. In this conversation, Dan and I discussed the importance of permaculture and how it serves as a lens for viewing life, particularly his bodywork. He shares his understanding of the Chinese Five Elements theory, Ayurveda, Zenthai Shiatsu, and Permaculture principles as useful modalities to integrate nature into health and well-being. Takeaways: Permaculture is a lens for viewing life and understanding nature's underlying principles and threads. Integrating plants in an urban environment is possible through creative solutions like neighbourhood gardens and potted plants. The sweet leaf is a versatile and resilient plant that can thrive in tropical climates and provide a continuous source of nutrition. Plants can be utilised for health and healing, supporting the body's natural processes and addressing specific imbalances. The five elements theory, derived from traditional Chinese medicine, provides a framework for understanding the cyclical nature of life and the interconnectedness of body and environment. I'm excited to share this really cool conversation about holistic healing with Meredith Barrett of Remuda Bodyworks. I was so curious to chat with Meredith about her experiences of living remotely with horses in what feels to me like the quintessential country life on a working cattle ranch.  Meredith shares her journey of how homeopathy empowered her to support the health of her horses, her family and her clients in a natural and holistic way. Meredith is passionate about helping horses heal through a holistic approach that is centred around solving the root cause to see positive and lasting changes in all aspects of the horse's life, including his/her ability and willingness to step into training and ridden work. We spoke of the importance of supporting the horse's gut and how gut damage can cascade out into all other areas of the horse's life. We also spoke about why cattle work can be beneficial for horses physically, mentally and emotionally. As well as the holistic and individual approach she takes to keep her working cattle horses feeling their best and supporting them as willing partners in their work on the farm. Meredith also offered insight on the Chinese Five Elements system for horses and how we can use these personality archetypes to more deeply understand our horses and find ways to train them in the most aligned way. She also shared how the different types express or suppress emotions and the ways that can manifest physically.  Join us for a conversation that was full of interesting information and perspectives on some of the many facets of working with and creating partnerships with horses in a holistic way that is often mutually beneficial and healing for both horse and human.

We're all born with individual rhythms that go beyond the influence of our genes and upbringing. The Five Elements is one of the systems that we can use to understand our rhythms. The system originated in ancient Chinese medicine 2,000 years ago–when scholars theorized that the universe is composed of five forces: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal.  Our guest Dondi Dahlin will help us understand the five elements better and how we can use it to transform ourselves. Dondi Dahlin is an award-winning public speaker and has been seen on Hay House, Shift Network, OMEGA Institute, Mindvalley, and ACEP. She is also a popular teacher spreading Eden Energy Medicine and the Five Elements through international workshops. She co-authored The Little Book of Energy Medicine and her book The Five Elements became a best-seller when it was released in 2016. Dondi is also an internationally-acclaimed dancer, actress, and teacher in television, film, and stage for over 30 years.  In this interview, Dondi explains the personality types represented by the five elements of water, wood, fire, earth, and metal and how we can use them to stay in balance physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. She also talks about how we can use it to improve our relationships with others.

Does the color of clothing you wear affect the arguments you have with your significant other? Can seasons help you to be on the same page as your best friends? Honestly, I'm not so sure. But my guest is an expert in Chinese Medicine which breaks personalities into five core energy types based on elements of nature. My guest today is Dr. Vicki Matthews. Vicki has been a Naturopathic Physician and Relationship Coach for over 20 years now. Her passion stems from wanting to help society become less conflicted: reducing lawsuits, divorces, and disagreements. After some psychological research, she found that people tend to fall in line with the elements of the Five Elements Model from Chinese Medicine. It can be pretty easy to get lost in some of the softer science of this topic and its impact on your relationships. But if you enjoy Meyers-Briggs, Astrology, or any of the other alternative practices out there: you're probably going to love this one. And listen, if it's totally not your thing: that's okay too. The next episode is going to be a much more data driven episode on relationships and the reasons they fail, so come back around for that just in time for engagement season! Let's get out of our element! Please take a brief moment to rate the show five stars on iTunes, Spotify, or Audible.  You can do your part to help this show grow, through word of mouth, by telling others that this podcast exists! I'm always looking for new topics, guest ideas, and questions from the audience. United States, with California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania now as the top states. 2. The United Kingdom. 3. Australia, now led by Western Australia.  4. Canada, with Alberta taking top province from Ontario. 5. Sweden, still led by Skane. I'll see you all on Thanksgiving for a realistic evaluation on our marriage prospects.

Hello again and welcome to episode 18, which is based on Chapter 18: Liver whispering – from my book, Nutrition Brought to Life. Your liver deserves all the love you can give it, it's such a workhorse. And like a horse, it seems to respond better to whispering than to being kicked and whipped into action. This goes against the grain of many of the detox regimes you may have come across, but I truly believe that, at least most of the time, we need to be gentle with our livers. In chapter 18, I reflect on how what we've learnt about the liver and its functions match so beautifully what the ancient Chinese Five Elements describe. This oriental approach describes the liver as the planner, and indeed it does regulate a lot of your body's activity, including blood sugar, balancing hormones, processing and distribution of nutrients, processing of fat soluble toxins and a whole lot more. Unsurprisingly, it gets easily overloaded, especially in this modern, heavily polluted world. More info: kirstenchick.com

What is Plant Spirit Medicine? Join speaker Diana Sproul as she describes plant spirit medicine as explained in Eliot Cowan's book of the same name. Plants, trees, rain, lightning and the Chinese elements (like water, metal, earth) are each represented by a consciousness. These may appear through meditation or dreaming in human, animal, insect or other form. Healing an imbalance or lack of a certain element in a person's spiritual make-up and life can help a person become well and whole again without addressing the illness itself. The book is highly recommended. The author says that is ordinary, and that all of us can learn to do what he does. The rich understanding of the Chinese Five Elements as it relates to our unique constitutional makeup as humans is not common knowledge. In fact, it is probably the least openly discussed Element system. The origins of this wisdom carried on the knowledge through oral traditions - master to student, master to student, which in the "age of information" is a very valuable and extremely important currency of  knowledge.    Both Capri and Rhiannon have been personally propelled within their self-development journeys, for over a decade, by being recipients in this traditional line of elemental awareness. Rhiannon, as a practicing traditional acupuncturist, co-activist coach and writer has taken her passion for the Five Element wisdom a step further by creating accessible content that allows individuals to "feel into" what life is like through this different lens of viewing ourselves.    Essentially, she gently opens the healing door into the world of the Five Elements to anyone and everyone. Especially relevant for those who sense there is a new level of understanding that they've been unable to reach. Modern society along with mainstream/"Western" view on mental and emotional health is incredibly linear and disconnected... The Five Element model is a powerful and innately intelligent remedy to the epidemic that continue to grow as a result to this.    Opening up to these learnings is a bit like opening pandoras box in the many ways it can be applied... a bit like remembering something thats always been there... and for sure, makes it impossible to go back to the "old" way of thinking. Yet, it is of course ancient thinking... perhaps some of the oldest thinking in relation to modern developments.    This podcast episode is a gateway.  It is in support of bridging two worlds. At a time when so clearly more individuals are needing to know, on a deep and visceral level, that they (in all different symptoms, presentations and humanness) are whole and well- innately. What is Plant Spirit Medicine? Join herbalist and nutritionist Diana Sproul as she presents plant spirit medicine as explained in Eliot Cowan's book of the same name. Plants, trees, rain, lightning and the Chinese elements (like water, metal, earth) are each represented by a consciousness. These may appear through meditation or dreaming in human, animal, insect or other form. Healing an imbalance or lack of a certain element in a person’s spiritual make-up and life can help a person become well and whole again without addressing the illness itself. The author says that is ordinary, and that all of us can learn to do what he does. Author Eliot Cowan does training at the Blue Deer Center in New York state. This lecture is Part 3 of 4 parts. Denise Cicuto returns in this episode to talk about her call to study acupuncture through a visitation by Kuan Yin. We talk about her journey, not only through acupuncture school, but her spiritual journey with Kuan Yin and her current studies of the spiritual side of acupuncture . We also discuss the nature of Kuan Yin, and how compassion isn’t necessarily “fluffy”. We also talk about the importance of self care when doing activism and after major emotional events such as Orlando.   Denise Cicuto is a Witch and Healer. She is a third degree Priest in the Circle of Cerridwen. In another magickal tradition, she is a Gryffindor.
