The UK general election is now in its final stages and while the union-wide result hardly seems in doubt, each constituency and candidate has a story to tell. Here at the Hiraeth Pod we are recording a series of short interviews with new candidates who are contesting constituencies across Wales. These are new faces on the national scene and will no doubt feature in the 2026 Senedd campaign even if unsuccessful this time around. We plan to speak to each of the main parties in Wales, which we consider to be the ones standing in every constituency at the start of the campaign (though since then some have fallen away, as you are no doubt aware). So we will be sharing interviews with Conservative, Plaid Cymru, Green, Reform, Liberal Democrat, and Labour candidates as we try to uphold the values of public service broadcasting in the digital age. In this pod we speak to Cllr Martyn Hogg, who is standing for the Greens in Clwyd North. A new constituency created out of the two Conservative strongholds of Clwyd West and Value of Clwyd that stretches toward the Clwydian Range to the north coast and includes the cathedral city of St Asaph, Denbigh, Rhyl and Colwyn. You can find the North West Greens on X/Twitter here: https://twitter.com/NWWGreenParty The candidates in Clwyd North are: Conservative and Unionist Party: Darren Millar MS England and Wales Green Party: Martyn James Hogg Liberal Democrats: David Wilkins Plaid Cymru: Paul Rowlinson Reform UK: Jamie Orange UK Labour: Gill German As always, you can find the latest from us @hiraethpod on most social media, including Twitter/X here: twitter.com/HiraethPod We hope you find this podcast interesting and useful. Huw Foulkes is a 4th generation dairy farmer in the Vale of Clwyd in North Wales. Since bringing the farm back into their own management, he has been developing the family's acres into a regenerative, organic, nature friendly, calf-at-foot dairy farm for the past 4 years. We are well aware of Huw and his fantastic land stewardship, as he lives only a few miles away and is a source of both milk and beef for our family. It was great to have a proper chat with him about his story so far and how the practices which he and his family employ are helping local wildlife populations to thrive - meaning more wild food opportunities as well as a healthier local environment.Even if farming isn't your 'thing', it is difficult to separate it from wild food. Much of the British landscape is managed for food production in one form or another; and the methods used are having a massive impact on our ecosystems as a whole, whether that's negatively through run-off into rivers or positively through the creation of field margins, hedgerows and healthy soils.Links- Wild Food People on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook - @wildfoodpeople- Support the Wild Food People podcast on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/wildfoodpeople- About Wild Food People - https://wildfoodpeople.co.uk/about/- Attend a course with Wild Food People - https://wildfoodpeople.co.uk/courses- Get in touch with us - https://wildfoodpeople.co.uk/contact-us/- Richard on Instagram and Twitter - @richprideaux- Amy on Instagram and Twitter - @agreenoutdoors-Huw on Instagram - @pentrefelin_

Debbie Fielder is deputy head of Clwyd Pension Fund at Flintshire County Council, where she has spent over 27 years. She is a leading voice on the LGPS investment circuit having been an early adopter of broad diversification and a founding member of the Welsh Pensions Partnership. Our conversation traces her start in local government and finance functions and how this led to a role in pensions.  We speak about her early mentors and the process and advice that led to Flintshire being an early adopter in many alternative asset classes.  Debbie did not realize at the time that this aspect of the approach taken in Flintshire was somewhat unusual among LGPS peers and her experience in this area led to her being a unintended thought leader in this respect. We speak about the pooling process then and the launch of the Welsh Pensions Partnership and the vision for LGPS pooling and how it may enable scalable local investment in Wales.  This is another one of Debbie's passions and we discuss this in some detail.  This podcast is part of a collaboration with Crispin Derby Limited.  Series 5 of 2023 is sponsored by With Intelligence, which connects investors and managers to the right people and data to raise and allocate assets effectively. Around 4000 years ago, at the Great Orme in Clwyd our ancestors started mining copper one of the metals needed to make this new metal alloy. The result, a vast almost industrial operation, helps shine a light on the drive, determination and sophistication of our ancestors - the mine they dug is the largest known prehistoric copper mine in the world.Check out the Podcast Instagram Account - Neil Oliver Love Letter See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
