Those wacky Soongs are at it again, proving that Data's the only good one of the lineage as Eugenics criminal Dr Arik Soong has some genetically engineered children who are out causing diplomatic incidents. That's right, we've got not one, not two but three Enterprise episodes as we watch all of the Augment trilogy in one go. Should they be ranked as one episode or three? How much does this want to be Wrath of Khan? Have they stopped with the whole ‘Space War on Terror' and does Earth look less like a poor Xbox game background? In Borderland, the mission's off to a bad start as Orion slavers abduct a lot of the crew. Then in Cold Station 12 we get one of those TOS-style space stations dedicated to science and a ton of deadly viruses. Finally in The Augments, the CW version of Wrath of Khan plays out as petulant augments try to incite a war between the Federation and Klingons!00:02:42 What Non-Star Trek things have we been enjoying?00:16:53 Enterprise: Borderland00:46:26 Enterprise: Cold Station 1201:02:05 Enterprise: The AugmentsTalking points include: The 100, Doug Ramsey, Friday the 13th, We salute our anteater overlord, Nature Trail to Hell, A Hyrule Historia of Halloween films, Apocalypse War, Nemesis: The Warlock, The Goonies, Borderlands (video game), Keep on the Borderlands (adventure), Little Keep on the Borderlands (parody adventure), The WB & The CW dramas, Charlie's worrying WB & CW knowledge, WWF on the SNES, Big Show, wrestling is basically weird amdram, World Wide Wrestling, Brainiac Cosplay, seagulls (including special guest star: a seagull, Nicholas Nickleby, Andromeda Strain, The career of Richard Rhiele, Charlie has been banned from starting a cult, X-Files flashlights, calling out Alec Newman for not shaving his eyebrows, some very 2004 music, Ewan McGregor, Wrath of Khan (of course), Chris Claremont (of course), Wing Commander III: Wrath of the Tiger, UK TV censorship, Back to the Future and then we mock a royal's hair loss, despite Charlie's lack of hair. "Enterprise" has left infurating war crimes behind and has gone back to the familiar comfort of dull and copying older "Trek". In parts two and three of a story that did NOT need to be a three-parter, the Augments go on a rampage and Soong realizes maybe he did, in fact, do a bad thing by unleashing them on the galaxy. Join us, won't you, for "Cold Station 12" and "The Augments". Also this week: too many nods, a pointless brother, and B'Elanna! Warp Five: A Star Trek Enterprise Podcast

Season 4 Retrospective Part 2.   Genetically enhanced humans have popped up in all forms of science fiction media for almost as long as the genre has existed, and Star Trek is no exception. Our first look at "augments," or genetically engineered humans, came in the original Star Trek series episode "Space Seed", when we meet the unforgettable Khan and learn about the Eugenics Wars of Earth past. Gene Roddenberry based this backstory on events from our own history during World War II, when Hitler began examining selective birthing to create a superior race of humans. The United States was not blameless, with physicians and lawmakers using imperfections in family history or other "unwanted" characteristics to deny rights to many citizens. And so we come to Star Trek: Enterprise's entry in the history, the three episodes known as "The Augment Trilogy", heralding Brent Spiner's return to Star Trek as Soong family predecessor, Arik. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Patrick Devlin, Brandi Jackola, and special guest Chris Tribuzio take a look at the season four episodes "Borderland", "Cold Station 12" and "The Augments". We discuss ties to other Star Trek, religious meanings of augment names, big wrestlers and little women, and how a middle-aged man in prison could end up with children.  Chapters Intro (00:00:00)  Welcome, Boomers! So, we watched Stranger Things, and, as promised, we have a spoilerriffic conversation about it. Surprise, surprise, one of us didn't like it as much as everybody else. After that, we talk about Enterprise, which actually put together a pretty solid two-part story arc. Unfortunately, they used three episodes to tell it. Oops. We talk about "Borderland," "Cold Station 12," and "The Augments," and marvel at how much Brent Spiner classes up the joint just by showing up. Then, Mad Men gives everybody their own personal panic attacks, as Pete Campbell laments his plight, Pryce takes a shot to the head, Roger gets blindsided, and Don lets fear of exposure drive him to his "Hands and Knees."

The Augment Arc. The Eugenics Wars are one of those events from Star Trek history that we've learned very little about despite their extreme importance. During its fourth season, Enterprise revisited the Eugenics Wars and their aftermath in a three-part arc comprised of “Borderland,” “Cold Station 12,” and “The Augments.” In this episode of Warp Five hosts Christopher Jones and Kate Walsh discuss the trilogy, the brilliant performance by Brent Spiner as Dr. Arik Soong, how it plays into the great debate of genetic enhancement, why Malik is a poor man's Khan, and how the story excels in some areas while failing in others.

Soong's Augments. The Eugenics Wars are one of those elements from Star Trek history that we've learned very little about despite their extreme importance. This great conflict from the 1990s, triggered by genetic engineering, exerted great influence on the development of human society and the Federation. It brought us Khan, World War III, and the controversy behind Dr. Bashir's enhancement. During its fourth season, Enterprise revisited the Eugenics Wars and their aftermath in a three-part arc comprised of “Borderland,” “Cold Station 12,” and “The Augments.” Spanning the years from Khan's rule over Asia and the Middle East to Dr. Arik Soong's continuation of the genetic engineering experiment, this story fills in much of the unknown story. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Michael Fisher and Dork Trek's Ben McCormick to discuss the arc's connection to TOS and The Wrath of Khan, along with Brent Spiner's guest appearance and the evolution of Enterprise's approach to storytelling.  In news we cover Malcolm McDowell's Star Trek rant, Captain Picard Day celebrations, IDW's September releases, Brannon Braga's new Borg comic series “Hive,” Star Trek Online's No-Win Scenario event, and lots of movie news and rumors. Plus Greg and Chris get new unexpected hybrid-animal nicknames.
