Don’s got shaving cream in the mirror, Megan’s got a mop and a plan, and Lane Pryce is one wallet away from going full American Psycho. It’s A Little Kiss Part 2! And on this episode of Mad Men Men, Jon Negroni, Will Ashton, and Mike Overhulse are breaking down the second half of Mad Men’s bold, chaotic, and deeply handsy Season 5 premiere. This episode also covers the real-world 1960s context behind the show’s uneasy depiction of civil rights “progress.” Plus some surprising behind-the-scenes trivia, including how production on this episode had to jump around thanks to January Jones’s real-life pregnancy. And yes, we finally address that Reddit theory about Masters of Sex. In case you’re new here, Mad Men Men recaps Mad Men through the perspectives of three different types of viewers: a first-timer, a first-time rewatcher, and someone who thought the best way to deal with their feelings about Don Draper was to start a podcast. EXTRA CREDITS Matthew Weiner created Mad Men, which aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. Matthew Weiner directed “A Little Kiss (Part 2)” and Jennifer Getzinger wrote the script. The show stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Robert Morse, and many more. Our intro music is “Mad Men Men” by Tom Davidson, which is an original remix of the show’s opening theme “A Beautiful Mine” by RJD2. Podcast illustration is by Jon Negroni. Our podcast hosts include Jon Negroni (Podcast Editor of InBetweenDrafts), Will Ashton (cohost of the Cinemaholics podcast), and Michael Overhulse (a guy who’s addicted to working at startups). It’s season five, baby! And we’re back with A Little Kiss Part 1, the two-part premiere that gave us a Zubi Zubi Zoom into Don Draper’s new life. And all the weird vibes that come with it. On this episode of Mad Men Men, Jon Negroni, Will Ashton, and Mike Overhulse reunite to talk about Megan’s infamous birthday serenade, why Pete Campbell continues to be the show’s most interesting character, and what Joan’s mom and a certain baby’s butt have in common. Oh, and the introduction of the most legendary character in the entire series...that's right, BOBBY 5. We dive into the real-life inspiration behind the shocking protest scene, AMC’s behind-the-scenes budget drama, and how this premiere marks a turning point in the show’s tone, aesthetic, and yes, hairlines. Also: the debut of Mike’s new microphone. It’s a whole event. In case this is your first time tuning in, Mad Men Men recaps Mad Men through the lens of three different viewers: a first-timer, a rewatcher, and someone who watches the show instead of forming healthy adult friendships. You know who you are. So whether you’re Team Peggy, Team Megan, or just here for Bert Cooper’s party game energy, pour a stiff drink and join us. We may not be ready for part two, but at least we showed up with a gift. Extra Credits: Matthew Weiner created Mad Men, which aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. It's ok Don, Mad Men Men doesn't have a budget for a commercial, either. That's right, this week we're getting into 'The Chrysanthemum and the Sword,' the fifth episode of Season 4. And we don't need a "gift" from you the listeners, as you just being our listeners is plenty gift enough. Just don't invite us to any sleepovers anytime soon. And we're back. To do the twist! The twist to a new season that is. In the time since we finished recording season 1, we switched over to InBetweenDrafts, so here we are! Let's get started. This week on the podcast, we discuss "For Those Who Think Young," which is the first episode of Season 2. Valentine's Day sweeps the Sterling Cooper staff and their families. We did it. We watched a full season of Mad Men. It was extremely easy (we just pressed play on a TV show 13 times). But in other ways it was difficult. We had to put our hands up to the wall and say, "We're here...to podcast." So this week on Mad Men Men, we discuss "The Wheel," the 13th episode of Season 1. Pete Campbell has the opposite of baby fever. But don't tell that to Peggy Olson. Don finds a time machine and why is Betty scheduling so many therapy sessions this week? We like to think of podcasting as the backbone of America. Especially when it comes to Mad Men! In "New Amsterdam," we follow way more of Pete (Dykeman?) Campbell's life than usual, as he conflicts with Don over a pitch with Bethlehem Steel. And at home, Betty gets some alone time with Glen Bishop, and it goes about as well as no one expected. Who is Don Draper...at home? In "Marriage of Figaro," we find the first real experimentation of Mad Men's formula, specifically as it relates to two halves of Don's life at constant conflict with one another. Pete Campbell returns from his honeymoon, Peggy picks up a new book, and Don tries to spark something with Rachel. But that's just Part 1 of an episode that says something a little deeper about love, marriage, and the American family. Mad Men was created by Matthew Weiner and aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. The “Dad Men” boys (Dad Boys?) finally reach one of the first glimmers of what Mad Men is going to become. This week's episode heavily spotlights Pete Campbell and gives us reasons how he became the little prick he is. Meanwhile, Betty Draper babysits a kid named Glen and things get uncomfortable fast. NOTE: We can't guarantee you will understand why Pete is Michael's favorite character even after this episode. This week's DAD BREAK is about the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (at the time) “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Michael and Jallah have differing views on this! What the?! The Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma" includes extensive on-camera interviews with former tech wizards from some of the biggest tech companies including Facebook and Google. These are merged with a dramatized illustration of how algorithms work, played by Vincent Kartheiser, the actor who played Pete Campbell on Mad Men (and happens to be married to Alexis Bledel). You'll see interviews with top tech minds, leaders, and engineers behind things like the infinite scroll, the Like button, and Gmail including early Facebook employee Chamath Palihapitiya, former Google member Tristan Harris, Pinterest President Tim Kendall, virtual reality inventor Jaron Lanier, and more. It takes place around the hypothetical story of how social networks impacted one American family, in particular a teenage boy. Stream this documentary tonight. Tread Perilously's Patreon request month leads to the lowest rated episode of Breaking Bad on IMDB, "Fly." Walter White's increasing anxiety gets exacerbated when a fly enters the lab. Will his sleeplessness lead him to tell Jesse the truth about Jane's death? Will Jesse be able to kill the fly before Walt's concern about contamination makes their batch woefully late? Will Gus be happy? Also, will anyone ever realize Walter White is the bad guy? Erik and Justin immediately launch into a discussion of Mad Men and its blackface episode. That may give you some idea of how thrilled they are to be discussing the infamous "bottle episode" of Breaking Bad. Justin even admits to the one time he liked Pete Campbell! He also points out the irony of the episode's creative team producing the highest rated episode of Breaking Bad. Erik gets confused about Krysten Ritter's time on the show. The discussion leads to The Shield and, of course, Star Wars -- but we promise it is a shorter digression than normal. They also wax nostalgic for the Pontiac Aztek. The key dramatic problem of the episode gets addressed and Erik explains why he is not a Breaking Bad superfan. Also, an extended Queer Eye discussion breaks out.

Welcome to the first episode of Mad Men & Tonic! Here we mix Old Fashioneds (drink lesson begins at 1:57) and dive in to Season 1, Episode One, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” (episode recap and discussion begins at 5:33), where we discuss why the show resonates more than ever, christen Pete Campbell the new Rat King, discuss the episode’s possible callback to the Silence of the Lambs, and revel in creepy doctors as an essential TV trope. Five years after the iconic show’s final season, Kristina and Elias mix some *ostensibly* on-theme drinks, recap the episodes, and do their best to explain why Mad Men remains the greatest show of all time. * Please note that our audio quality, editing, and flow improve as the podcast goes on. Continuing the story of six white-tailed eagle chicks, translocated by the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, working in partnership with Forestry England, from nests in Scotland to the Isle of Wight, off England's south coast. This project aims to re-establish the birds in the place where they last bred in England, 240 years ago. The podcast records the work that went into preparing the birds for their release, and hears how emotional it can be to see these majestic and long-absent birds return to the skies over England. The American Cancer Society not only funds cancer research, it also employs dozens of scientists who are among the leaders of their respective fields. ACS researchers Stacey Fedewa, Pete Campbell, and Becky Siegel talk about the colorectal cancer research they're conducting related to risk factors, health equity issues, and the rise in early-onset colorectal cancer. 1:15 – On some of the most important unanswered questions in their field – “We know that no two tumors look alike on a molecular level. What are the causes and consequences of that tumor heterogeneity?” 4:50 – On how much we’ll able to learn from CPS-2 and CPS-3 – “In CPS-2 we just finished targeted sequencing of about 800 samples from people diagnosed with colon cancer. We just started looking at the data now. It’s literally hot off the presses…And CPS-3 is only going to be bigger…We’re able to measure things in the blood that happen prior to diagnosis, we have extensive survey information years before their diagnosis, and then we’ll have tumor samples from their colorectal surgery.” 6:30 – On the increase in colorectal cancer incidence in young adults – “Millennials now have twice the risk of colon cancer diagnosis compared to someone born in the 1950s at the same age. And for rectal cancer…it’s four times higher. And no one right now knows why this is happening.” 17:15 – The Medicare loophole and its implications – “Medicare will cover ‘screening colonoscopies,’ but the way (Medicare) defined screening colonoscopies is if there was no polyp found. So if somebody comes in for a screening colonoscopy and a polyp is found it will be deemed ‘diagnostic,’ and then they might be charged up to 20% for a colonoscopy…People are being asked to put a credit card down when they get a colonoscopy.” 22:00 – Why does their work matter to colorectal cancer patients – “Very, very few studies have data on patients before they became patients and after they were patients. CPS-2 has been going on since 1992, so with that amount of follow-up time, we’re able to follow people into their 80s and 90s and see what factors really influence that long-term survival.”

Chances are you’ve already had some kind of experience with a voice assistant. Maybe you’ve tried (with varying degrees of success) to get Siri to write an email. Or maybe you’ve shouted at Alexa in your kitchen. Either way, the tyranny of typing out instructions for computers is coming to an end and our three very willing, very knowledgable guests were able to help us get a sense of just what on earth is really going and what it all means. We met up with Pete Campbell from Kaizen, and we had a natter with Heather Andrew from Neuro Insight and Jeremy Pounder from Mindshare. It was a veritable smorgasbord of insight and ideas. We covered everything from making voice assistants work for marketing, bad sci-fi references and how the way we interact with the Internet is fundamentally changing.

We're talking Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2 this week, and boy does this season earn its reputation. We watch "The Outrageous Okona," "Loud as a Whisper," and "The Schizoid Man," and try desperately to find anything resembling a plot. In any of them. (For real, a good chunk of one of the episode is watching Data watch Joe Piscipo do a Jerry Lewis impression. It's that kind of season of TV.) Then, we talk Mad Men, as "Signal 30" digs deep into Pete Campbell and Lane Pryce. Yes, it's the Pete-Lane fistfight episode.

Welcome to the second of a 3-part series of Digital Marketing Radio episodes recorded live at the Search London Meetup – a special episode sequence helping to celebrate the "double ton" of DMR episodes. In this, episode 200, we hear the talk given by Nichola Stott from theMediaFlow on HREFLANG for International SEO. View the slides from the presentation below. In this episode, Nichola talks about: how to set up HREFLANG, the most common errors in setting up HREFLANG what HREFLANG isn’t for, the pros and cons of implementing HREFLANG in the head section versus an XML sitemap... and much more! This is really important information if you’re trying to target multiple countries online. Enjoy! (Next episode we’re going to be hearing from Pete Campbell from Kaizen, sharing his thoughts on “Why Brands Need to Focus on Site Speed in a Mobile-First World.”)
Over episodes 199 to 201, I wanted to do something a little different to help celebrate the 200th episode of Digital Marketing Radio – before we return to the regular format in episode 202. What I did a couple of weeks ago was go along to a local meetup called Search London where I recorded 2 great talks on SEO – and also chatted to the host of the meetup – Jo Turnbull. In episode 200 of DMR, Nichola Stott from TheMediaFlow will share “HREFLANG for International SEO: Lessons from 3,000 Implementations” And in Episode 201, Pete Campbell from Kaizen will be sharing “Why Brands Need to Focus on Site Speed in a Mobile-First World.” But first of all, in this, Episode 199, I wanted to chat with Jo Turnbull, the host of the meetup, search London. I chatted with Jo about whether or not she ever struggled with the consistency of putting on Meetup events, why she uses both Eventbrite and meetup, the pitfalls of putting on a meetup, what she does to promote the event, how Search London has personally helped her - and her future vision of Search London. I started off by saying to Jo that her meetup had been around for quite a while, and asking her a little bit about the history behind it...

And don’t get me wrong—I’m not knocking those credits—it’s a testament to how, when it’s your time in Hollywood, the knocks on the door can come fast and furious. ALISON BRIE Audio Excerpt: "Our producers on 'Community' are big fans of 'Mad Men' and were very gracious to let me continue to recur on that show and I hope it works out for season four." Her big break came in the first season of “Mad Men,” on which she plays “Trudy Campbell,” wife of ambitious silver spooner Pete Campbell. Pete hasn’t quite figured out married life yet—from making babies to staying away from women who are not his wife—but that hasn’t stopped Trudy from stealing most every scene she is in, including her final moment of season three. As for “Community,” Alison plays “Annie,” the baby-faced, sometimes raw community college student who is desperately trying to fit in with the show’s band of oddball, somewhat older and more experienced characters. The new NBC show took a few weeks to get its voice, but “Community” absolutely deserves the “Must See TV” tag and is funny from the first to the last minute of each new episode. It deserved a recent full-season pickup from the network and move to anchoring Thursdays night at 8 p.m. Alison Brie Twitter • Order "Community" Season 1 DVD Kicking Through the Ashes: My Life As A Stand-up in the 1980s Comedy Boom by Ritch Shydner. So, we watched Stranger Things, and, as promised, we have a spoilerriffic conversation about it. Surprise, surprise, one of us didn't like it as much as everybody else. After that, we talk about Enterprise, which actually put together a pretty solid two-part story arc. Unfortunately, they used three episodes to tell it. Oops. We talk about "Borderland," "Cold Station 12," and "The Augments," and marvel at how much Brent Spiner classes up the joint just by showing up. Then, Mad Men gives everybody their own personal panic attacks, as Pete Campbell laments his plight, Pryce takes a shot to the head, Roger gets blindsided, and Don lets fear of exposure drive him to his "Hands and Knees."
Mel sits down with two time cancer survivor Pete Campbell. Pete was shown a video of fellow cancer survivor Sean Swarner, who was the first cancer survivor to summit Mount Everest. The video of Swarner inspired Campbell to endure and overcome the hard chemo treatments that he had to endure. Sean invited Pete to climb with him on his yearly Kilimanjaro climb. Seeing Pete's passion, Sean hired Pete as his executive director of his non profit Cancer Climber. Inspired by the Kilimanjaro climb Pete is now training to hike 100 miles in the North Country trail to raise enough funds to send one survivor to climb Mt Kilimanjaro with Sean for free. If you need a dose of inspiration, you will find it here on an all new show available on demand.
The Rules of Acquisition: A Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast
In the interest of checking off all the obligatory characters from ST: TNG, Lwaxana Troi shows up in this episode! But wait! It's actually pretty good! She gets more intimate with a gooey Odo than she ever did with Picard. Is she more interesting without her daughter? Bashir is Pete Campbell. Technobabble. Obrien gets a puppy.
This week, Elementary goes dumpster diving in a pretty solid episode based on a classic video game legend. Then, Star Trek: Enterprise wastes an opportunity in "Vanishing Point," commits war crimes in "Precious Cargo," and does not host a fabulous fashion show in "The Catwalk." Finally, on Mad Men, Pete Campbell is disappointed, everybody watches a lot of television, and Sally waits for an explanation from "The Grown Ups."
After discussing the new season of Elementary -- and it's good, friends -- and indulging in J.'s obsession with Harlan Ellison and "The City on the Edge of Forever," we dig into some more season Enterprise, with "Dead Stop," "A Night in Sickbay," and "Marauders." We talk about remaking The Magnificent Seven with Klingons, creepy Twilight Zone repair shops, and how maybe if you're going to write a comedy you should learn how to tell a damn joke. We're looking at you, Rick Berman.Afterwards, we wrap with Mad Men, as Pete Campbell achieves peak garbage person and Betty and Don went all the way to Rome and all they got was this lousy "Souvenir."
We talk the end of Community's sixth (and final?) season, deal with the awkward shift to a new mystery in the third season of Veronica Mars, and find Pete Campbell sympathetic in the second season Mad Men episode "Flight 1."
"The words. You are good with the words, man." So say we to our returning guest, author William Dewey. In out longest episode yet, we talk about one of our favorite shows of all time, Mad Men. Don Draper, Peggy Olson, Joan Harris, Roger Sterling, Pete Campbell, and on and on and on. We could name 40+ characters that we know and care about over the course of the show's 7 seasons, let alone countless scenes and even more moments of dialogue. Join us as we talk about what makes Mad Men so profoundly effective, enlightening and insightful.
The veil of time pulls back, revealing the long lost episode 10. In this episode, Kane has an unusual reaction to good news, and we misunderstand basic facts about LOST, Benjamin Button, and The Bible. Featuring special guest Kyle Burrow, the dog with Pete Campbell's face. Because this episode was UNSTUCK IN TIME all of the questions have already been answered. If you want to find current questions, look out for episode 15 in a couple days. Intro Music: Louis Armstrong - Ain't Misbehavin'
Two hours and twenty-five minutes. Strap in, kids.First, we celebrate the glorious return of Elementary, with its third season premiere, "Enough Nemesis to Go Around." Between the magic bullet magnets and sidewalk baton dueling, we reaffirm just how much we love this show. Then, we move on to a glorious banquet of Deep Space Nine episodes. To wit:"In the Pale Moonlight" - Perhaps the most legendary episode of the entire series -- and J.'s favorite -- sparks an impassioned discussion of its true merits. Is the confessional structure a showy distraction, or is it key to the episode's impact?"His Way" - Never mind that shit, it's VIC FONTAINE, Y'ALL. There are a hundred reasons why this episode shouldn't work. And yet..."The Reckoning" - Is this a Star Trek episode, or a mural painted on the side of someone's van in 1978?And finally, we discuss the Mad Men episode "Shoot" with what little voice we have left. Stop the presses, Pete Campbell is a dick.Next week, we finish the first season of Veronica Mars, with "M.A.D.," "A Trip to the Dentist," and "Leave It to Beaver," plus the Mad Men episode "Long Weekend." And Elementary, too. We better stock up on lozenges.
In this action packed episode of the Happy Hour, Jim and A.Ron discuss the Greater Margarine Mad Men theory, the desperation of Pete Campbell, international man of mystery Bob Bunson, Roger failing at every level of fatherhood, and Betty offering amazingly clear insights into the very soul of our favorite high functioning g sociopath, Don Draper. All this plus high quality feedback from our awesome fans. We love you!
[Downton Off-Season] - The damsels tackle last week’s jam-packed episodes of Game of Thrones, Mad Men and Nashville. There's serious brutality, Brienne’s virginity, creepy Pete Campbell, fierce Trudy, humor in dark times and Deacon's boring girlfriend.
Signal 30 could have been called "Signal Awesome." This remarkable feat of cinematography shows us that even though Campbell soup is mmm mmm good, Pete Campbell is mmm mmm creepy all the way around. Lane Pryce has a mean left cross and Kenny Cosgrove is still the best person at SCDP. Great contributions, as always, from our listeners and for that we sincerely thank yo
In this episode we take a close look at the character Pete Campbell. We also talk about the latest news stories, we talk about some of are other favorite shows, and we respond to some listener feedback. Listen to podcast Continue reading 018 Mad Men Podcast: “Pete Campbell Then and Now”→
