Welcome to Trek Tuesday on Exploring Humanity Through Sci-Fi, where I dive deep into all things Star Trek.  In this episode, host Tony Tellado celebrates one of the most beloved Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes—“The Inner Light.” Partly inspired by a George Harrison Beatles song and rooted in Taoist philosophy, “The Inner Light” takes Captain Picard on a powerful journey as he lives 4o years of the life of the scientist Kamin. Joining Tony is actor Richard Riehle, known for playing Kamin's close friend Batai , who shares behind-the-scenes stories about the making of this iconic episode, his experiences working alongside Patrick Stewart, and the camaraderie built on set. Richard also reminisces about his time on Star Trek: Voyager and the unforgettable moments he shared with the cast. Plus, we reflect on the legacy of Picard's Ressikan flute and “The Inner Light's” lasting impact on Star Trek fans and the franchise as a whole.  Start Your Free Trial On Sci-Fi Talk Plus, Today.

"Come to Papa" is a sitcom that aired on NBC from June 3rd to 24th, 2004. Due to poor reviews, he show was cancelled after airing only four episodes. In today's world "Come to Papa" might best be known as the reason Steve Carell originally had to turn down "The Office". Always a treat for me to speak with a composer and dive into composition, instrumentation, themes, motifs, moods, and more, and with YOUR LUCKY DAY, not only do we delve into some dramatic darkness, but doing it with a holiday flair. Not an easy task for a composer! Then hear writer/director GERALD "GERRY" BRUNSKILL talk about his latest film, the wild and wacky but filled with heart, ADVENTURES OF THE NAKED UMBRELLA MAN. Boasting an outstanding cast that includes two of my faves – Tom Arnold and my old friend Richard Riehle – along with Jeremy Davies and Taryn Manning, ADVENTURES OF THE NAKED UMBRELLA MAN is quite honestly, out of this world! I love it! If Harrison Ford isn't the most-successful movie star in history, then he's at least on the shortest of shortlists. And he's almost a silent-film actor in The Fugitive, while Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones as his dogged antagonist is positively verbose. Ford gets to play smart, determined and driven to find the one-armed man who killed his wife, despite having a terrible lawyer representing him. Jones is the federal marshal out to find him, who's likewise smart, determined and driven. It's such a credit to The Fugitive that a woman gets murdered, there's medical fraud, friends betray friends and yet Andrew Davis still finds so many ways to make this such a fun film. Let the 528th episode of Have You Ever Seen use not just one arm, but two to unscramble the mystery as we realize it's time to stop running. Well, Actually: Ryan was thinking of Joseph Kosala as the real Chicago cop who plays Ron Dean's detective partner. Also, Dean, IS a Chicagoan, but Richard Riehle (the guard on the prison bus) is not. Also also, the editor who didn't get his entire name mentioned is Dov Hoenig. Sparkplug Coffee sponsors Have You Ever Seen. They offer a 20% discount to anyone who uses our "HYES" promo code. His unique blend of talents are an integral part to any production.            Currently in the final stages of post production Beyer co-wrote and directed the action-adventure self-ware romantic-comedy, Poor Paul; inspired by the 2008-09 web series of the same name that he co-created and produced. Rhode Island served as the worldly locations for this fun romp. It follows Paul (Adam Carbone), an eccentric college student who lives vicariously through his hero fantasies, as he inherits a great deal of money (and frequent flyer miles) and takes his best friends/roommates Jason (Abhi Sinha) and Clyde (Nick Pasqual) on a trip around the world, only to be held hostage by a delusional Italian man, hell bent on Paul marrying his daughter – or else! Supporting cast includes veteran character actor, Richard Riehle (Office Space, Casino) reprising his role as the lovable curmudgeon Grandpa Paul.            Also shot in Rhode Island, Beyer co-wrote and directed the award-winning Randy's Canvas, a touching romantic drama about an aspiring artist with autism who falls in love for the first time. Starring Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween, The Runaways), Kevin G. In this excerpt, Richard discusses one of Leontes' speeches in The Winter's Tale by Shakespeare—it's in the first act where he has his suspicions about his wife and his best friend having an affair. Leontes is speaking with his trusted advisor Camillo, who cannot bear to hear these accusations and Leontes responds “Is whispering nothing?” and goes from there. You'll hear Richard discuss: how Shakespeare drops you into this without any backstory the questions you want to ask yourself with words that repeat and that if you even explore the sounds of the speeches, they can give you clues too! It's a great session, and it was a lot of fun to hear Richard's insights on the character and all the possibilities that lay before you with a text like this!   Click here for full show notes and links. Is leaning cheek to cheek? Is meeting noses? Kissing with inside lip? Stopping the career Of laughter with a sigh (a note infallible Of breaking honesty)? Horsing foot on foot? Skulking in corners? Wishing clocks more swift? Hours, minutes? Noon, midnight? And all eyes Blind with the pin and web but theirs, theirs only, That would unseen be wicked? Is this nothing? Why then the world and all that's in't is nothing, The covering sky is nothing, Bohemia nothing, My wife is nothing, nor nothing have these nothings, If this be nothing.

Richard Riehle (pronounced "Really!"), has had a nearly 50-year career, he's still going! With 400+ onscreen credits to his name, plus years and years of regional theatre, he is truly a working actor! You've probably seen Richard in dozens of things, with very memorable parts in the films Glory, The Fugitive, Office Space, and Casino, as well as appearances on Modern Family, Grounded for Life, and Black-ish. And of course, that doesn't even touch on the decades of regional theatre Richard did before he even started working on-camera! Just a bit of what we cover in this episode: How he was open to whatever possibilities came along, literally saying things like “Yeah, I guess I can do that” How he saw being an actor as a job—it was what he did to put money on the table How people can really depend and rely on him How he does the audition and then walks away Why it sometimes feels like he's starting all over Why certain projects (that he was excited about) didn't end up working out   Richard even shares how he works on Shakespeare, with a speech from The Winter's Tale, so don't miss that!   Click here for full show notes and links.
