Le infezioni delle vie respiratorie superiori (URTI) sono molto diffuse nella popolazione pediatrica e rappresentano circa il 90% delle infezioni respiratorie totali in tutto il mondo; è comune che un bambino abbia da 5 a 8 episodi all'anno, soprattutto nei primi 5 anni di vita. Un team di ricercatori dell’Unità di Pediatria della Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano e dell’Università degli Studi di Milano ha condotto uno studio clinico randomizzato in cieco per valutare l’efficacia di una miscela di probiotici orali nella riduzione della durata della febbre nei bambini affetti da infezioni delle alte vie respiratorie (URTI), ipotizzando che questo intervento potesse modificare l’evoluzione. Nicoletta Carbone ne parla con Gregorio Paolo Milani, professore di pediatria all’Università Statale di Milano e dirigente medico presso il Pronto Soccorso Pediatrico al Policlinico di Milano, che ha partecipato allo studio.

El document estableix canvis i millores, algunes d'elles ja incorporades en el dia a dia de les consultes pediàtriques però d'altres de noves com el fet que la revisió dels 10 anys incorporarà un electrocardiograma per prevenir possibles problemes cardiovasculars. El protocol incideix molt en la higiene digital i en aquest sentit amb Valldepérez hem parlat de la necessitat d'establir bons hàbits en el consum de pantalles des de ben petits. Dr. Mullins was Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and one of the pioneers in the world of congenital heart interventional cardiology. In today's episode we will listen back to an episode from 2021 from the SCAI 2021 meeting in which we interviewed Dr. Mullins and Dr. Julie Vincent (then Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University). Drs. Mullins and Vincent discuss their lives as interventional cardiologists and also speak about the role that mentorship played in their long careers. Dr. Aimee Armstrong of Nationwide Children's Hospital also participates in this conversation. Following this interview replay with Drs. Mullins and Vincent, we speak with Dr. Frank Ing who is the Director of Pediatric Cardiology at UC Davis and the former director of the catheterization lab at Texas Children's and a former trainee and close friend of Dr. Mullins and his family. This past week marked the passing of the great pediatric cardiology pioneer, Dr. Sylvia Griffiths. Dr. Griffiths was a trainee of Dr. Ruth Wittemore of Yale University and was one of the founders of the pediatric cardiology program at NY Presbyterian Hospital in the mid 1950's with Dr. Sidney Blumenthal. Her career spanned 7 decades, all at NY Presbyterian, Columbia University. She is remembered as a pioneering woman in medicine as well as a pioneer as a pediatric cardiologist. She is also remembered as a kind and warm colleague and friend. In today's 304th episode of Pediheart we review a 55 year old paper by Dr. Griffiths on outcomes of partial AV canal repair and speak with the present chief of pediatric cardiology at NY Presbyterian, Dr. Christopher Petit about the important role she played at Columbia. We then speak with Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Christine Walsh about the role she played in Dr. Walsh's life as well as the lives of so many patients, colleagues and friends.
