Crystal Martin pursued the Social Worker program at Algonquin College, but this wasn't always the career path that she initially dreamed she would pursue. Born and raised in Sanirajak in Nunavut, Crystal spent her teenage years between the North and the Ottawa Valley. While she was visiting her community, she became aware of the hardships faced by Inuit communities. From low income families, homes that were falling apart, poverty, and most tragically, suicide. Crystal began her quest and after graduating from Algonquin College's Social Service program in 2013, she began her mission advocating for Indigenous youth, bringing her social service background to talk about the importance of Inuit youth to reconnect with their culture, traditions, and language, develop and implement Inuit-specific programs and services, and identify issues and implement strategies to meet local needs. In addition to her consulting business, Okpik Consulting, Crystal is also the CAO and co-founder Indigenous Geographic, a newly established (100% Indigenous-owned) film and production company that amplifies Indigenous voices and shares Indigenous stories from across Canada and around the globe.

“The Lord is my shepherd… I shall not want”. David writes these timeless words--the 23rd Psalm is quite possibly the most familiar passage of scripture-- (second only to John 3:16, or maybe the Lord's prayer right?). I sometimes feel like we've cluttered up the Christian life. In trying to conceptualize or describe “what” it means to walk with Jesus, we may have mistakenly created this outer-shell, (the do's and don'ts) of our faith-- and we sometimes need a reminder of the heart of the matter-- the core value of our lives is to know God, to be known by Him, and to have relationship with Him. That is made possible, by Jesus alone-- and he prepares a table for you. All we need to do is simply sit down-- and stay at the table. Many thanks to the Dayspring Music Ministry, and Crystal Martin, Heather Curtis, Kent Miller and Jeff Bargerstock for their wonderful recording of "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" at the end of this episode. Why did the Lord prepare the table in the presence of the enemies? So the enemy sees and is reminded of how Glorious the Lord is! He seeks to destroy everything the Lord is doing-- and by us staying at the table, focusing on Jesus our Good Shepherd-- the enemy is constantly reminded of his failure and future demise. This is a key factor in our understanding of WORSHIP! So all those around us see how glorious the Lord is, and be drawn to HIM! Jesus, the Good Shepherd provides us with an ABUNDANCE Mindset-- not a scarcity mindset! We are free to share what we have received. Matthew 10:5-8 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.' 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. This is a key factor in our understanding of WITNESS! So we remember that we have the authority to dismiss the enemy from our table, every day. Be gone, Satan. You've been lying to me, distracting me, undermining my Lord's work. James 4:7: 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. This is a key factor in understanding of WARFARE! Worship, Witness, and Warfare-- That's a pretty good summary of three core parts of our lives, right? But it all starts with sitting down, turning our eyes upon Jesus, and Staying at the Table. Many thanks to the Dayspring Music Ministry, and Crystal Martin, Heather Curtis, Kent Miller and Jeff Bargerstock for their wonderful recording of "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" at the end of this episode. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/encouragers-united/message

This podcast begins with a paradox: On the one hand, the Assemblies of God recognizes the credentialed ministry of women at whatever level God has called and empowered them. On the other hand, AG women often face barriers to ministry leadership simply because they are women. In this podcast, I’m talking with Beth Grant and Crystal Martin about how to resolve this paradox, that is, about how to move the ministry of women from something we affirm theologically to something we practice routinely. I’m George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. Beth Grant is co-founder and executive director of Project Rescue, an international ministry to survivors of sex trafficking; an executive presbyter of the Assemblies of God; and author of Courageous Compassion: Confronting Social Injustice God’s Way. Crystal Martin is director of the Assemblies of God’s Network of Women Ministers, director of Cross-Cultural Missions for Chi Alphacampus ministry, and associate pastor of Central Assembly in Springfield, Missouri. Both women are ordained Assemblies of God ministers. My conversation with them is coming up after a brief word from our sponsor. ----- This episode of the Influence Podcast is brought to you by My Healthy Church, distributors of Bible Engagement Project. Most people have access to the Bible, but few regularly engage with it. Bible Engagement Project equips churches with digital Bible study resources to help people of all ages read and understand Scripture so they can become more like Jesus and live radically changed lives. In this episode, we are talking about giving a year and praying about a lifetime in the mission field. We will be speaking with Scott Martin, the National Director of Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, and hear how this call to give a year and pray about a lifetime was developed. Then we will talk to a friend of ours working in the Middle East, who gave a year and the Lord led her family to continue in that work. We will get to hear all about her decision and experience. Finally, we will speak with our friend who helps train missionaries overseas. We will hear from his perspective what it’s like to receive Chi Alpha missionaries who have experienced relational discipleship in a small group setting. The World Economic Forum at Davos is where leaders from around the world gathered to discuss the implications of a new industrial revolution—the 4th industrial revolution (after the revolutions brought about by steam power, electricity and electronics). The 4th Revolution uses digital technology to revolutionize almost every part of our life at an unprecedented pace, from self-driving cars to AI-enabled assistants. One of the biggest implications outlined in The Industry Gender Gap report that was referenced in this meeting, is just how harmful this revolution may be to the progress of women because they are underrepresented in tech. As market forces transform industries to favor technological skills, women only hold 26% of all tech jobs. Worse yet, they only stand to gain 1 new STEM job for every 20 that are lost in other disrupted industries. For men, that ratio is a much more favorable 1 to 4. The reports makes clear, “If current industry gender gap trends persist and labor market transformation towards new and emerging roles in computer, tech and engineering related fields continues to outpace the rate at which women are currently entering those types of jobs, women are at risk of losing out on tomorrow's best job opportunities. Today, we will be speaking with Crystal Martin from LaunchCode's CoderGirl program, Delia Chassaing a CoderGirl and Helena Converse, a mentor with CoderGirl to learn how they are helping to change this dire prediction of women in tech. Don't miss this discussion so stay listening….
