Episode 210The gruesome murder of Iryna Zarutska on a public train in Charlotte, North Carolina shocked the world. Completely unprovoked and unexpected, the Ukrainian refugee's death added to the heavy and persistent burden we groan under: the realization that things have gone terribly wrong in our nation and the principalities we wrestle against (and the people submitted to their evil influence) are increasingly belligerent, malicious, and daring. The murderer, an evil serial offender who was a menace even to his own family, walked away unbothered as Iryna died right in her seat where he attacked her. How could this have happened? What could have been done to prevent this? How is it that no one came to her aid until it was too late? And how is it that we did not hear about her murder until two weeks after it happened? On this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we will talk about this tragedy, discussing what it means for our nation, who we are as a people, and what the Bible has to say about the evil that we are seeing unfold every day. Iryna Zarutska, a soul for which Christ died.Listen to the Removing Barriers Podcast here:Spotify: https://cutt.ly/Ega8YeI Apple Podcast: https://cutt.ly/Vga2SVdEdifi: https://cutt.ly/Meec7nsvYouTube: https://cutt.ly/mga8A77Podnews: https://podnews.net/podcast/i4jxoSee all our platforms: https://removingbarriers.netContact us:Email us: https://removingbarriers.net/contactFinancially support the show: https://removingbarriers.net/donateAffiliates:Book Shop: https://bookshop.org/shop/removingbarriersChristian Books . com: https://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/home?event=AFF&p=1236574See all our affiliates: https://removingbarriers.net/affiliatesNotes: News Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OU_HFJbAKMNews Video 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Kw5DAB_baACharlie kirk v. The National Association of Education Progress (NAEP) annually releases a representative study of students' academic performance. Known as “the Nation's Report Card,” NAEP scores are an indicator of how much children are learning. This fall's report shows only 24 percent of Oregon eighth graders are “at or above proficient” in math, and 27 percent are proficient in reading. Of Oregon fourth graders, 31 percent are proficient in math, 27 percent in reading. These scores are lower than the national average. This isn't a surprise. Money spent in the public education bureaucracy has increased for decades, but everyone knows academic achievement has declined. It's no wonder polls show strong majorities of voters, including poll respondents in Oregon, support “giving parents the right to use tax dollars designated for their child's education to send their child to the school which best serves their needs.”Oregon public schools can't meet the needs of all children for reasons that are many and complex. But solutions can be simple, starting with freedom and opportunity. To improve education outcomes, policymakers should make it easier for parents to match their students with public, charter, magnet, online, private, home, or micro schools that best meet their needs and goals. Parents want their children to learn, and they want access to schools that will help them do that effectively. Children deserve no less than a great environment to reach their full potential.

Dr. Stefanie Simmons (Emergency Medicine Physician; CMO, Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation) explains ways we can shift the mindset around licensing and support for mental health care. She commends UW Medicine for receiving the All In Credentialing Champions Challenge Award for removing stigmatizing language and adding support resources in credentialing applications related to mental health and substance use disorders. Dr. Simmons promotes expanding our definition of patient-centeredness to include self care and our holistic identities outside of our jobs. She walks through a color-coded framework for folks worrying about their own mental health or substance use and delineates resources available to anyone seeking support. Episode 209To the jubilation of some and the horrified dismay of others, Roe is no longer the law of the land in the United States. What does that look like in our day to day lives? On this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we sit down with Becky Sheetz of Life First Pregnancy Center. She is on the front line of the abortion issue, reaching out to men and women in crisis pregnancy situations, providing counseling and resources of all sorts to encourage the parents to choose life, and perhaps even to choose Christ. There is so much work to be done, even in the wake of the Dobbs decision. This is a spiritual battle requiring the armor of God that Ephesians 6 tells us to put in. Becky sheds light on how things have changed and what we should be looking to in the future to keep fighting for the lives (and souls) of all involved. Episode 208A recent Ligonier survey of evangelicalism finds nearly 50% of processing Christians do not deem it important to share their faith with the lost. Nearly 50%! That is a topic for another day, but for the slight majority that do see the need to witness to others, many thousands feel they are hindered. The reasons may include a lack of equipping, a fear of not knowing what to say, or maybe even the fear of man. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we sit down with recurring guest Edward Thal, whose fascinating life is a testament to God's love and mercy, to discuss how we as believers can become effective soulwinners. Brother Thal reminds us, among other things, that a well-rehearsed script is not the effective way to win souls, but a wholehearted surrender to God is. Join us on this episode as he discusses these and more. Episode 204On this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we react to the Piers Morgan Uncensored coverage of the Shiloh Hendrix situation and the ongoing racial tensions it exposes in our country today. Shiloh Hendrix was the white woman who called an autistic 5 year old boy a racial slur and unapologetically doubled down on her actions when confronted, then proceeded to raise nearly a million dollars on GiveSendGo to cover costs associated with the fallout of her decision. The panel was diverse in thought: centrist, leftist, conservative, and far right, but incredibly, none seemed to have a biblical perspective. Was Shiloh Hendrix wrong, and what does the influx of support say about the state of race relations in the U.S.? What does the Bible have to say about it? Not only are small businesses the primary generators of new jobs, but they are also the incubators of innovation and the pipeline for future large businesses. Small businesses rely on many different sources of financial support, but the capital markets play an important role in helping small businesses grow. Unfortunately, tapping the equity markets can be difficult, owing in part to the complex web of regulations and exemptions that stand between an entrepreneur and raising capital in a securities market. Last week, the council's Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) Committee said they would be seeking to implement a number of recommendations that improve emergency readiness for disabled populations. Following a hui last year where community members were invited to bring forward issues relating to future planning for natural disasters, Sara was interested to hear about how the council is taking suggestions on board. As well, Auckland Council has been considering proposals to mitigate flood risks around the Wairau catchment, including one which would see the reduction of the size of the Takapuna Golf Course, to convert the space into a flood catchment. Producer Sara spoke to Auckland Councillor Shane Henderson on both of these topics, firstly by asking him to discuss the desired outcomes relating to emergency preparedness for disabled people, and the council's first steps to implementation
Episode 203Jordan Peterson collaborated with Jubilee and agreed to debate 20 atheists. He made four claims:Atheists reject God but they don't know what they are rejecting.Morality and purpose cannot be found within science.Everyone, including atheists, worships something, even if they don't know it. Atheists accept Christian morality but deny Christianity's foundational stories. While some of the atheists engaged in good faith, some were only there for the viral video moment. As a result, many attempts to get to the substance of the arguments fell short. In this episode of Removing Barriers podcast, we go through various moments in the video and discuss them, seeking to understand what biblical claims are being made and whether they are true, especially since Peterson, who is not a Christian, is trying to engage in apologetics for the Christian faith. Episode 199When Daniel Penny's intervention on a New York subway unintentionally resulted in the death of Jordan Neely, the country was up in arms and he was public enemy #1. When Luigi Mangione (allegedly, as of this post) deliberately took the life of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, millions rose to his defense and hailed him a hero. Why is that the case? The situations couldn't be more clear and diverse, yet evil is called good and good, evil. On this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we explore the circumstances that would bring about such a twisted response. Could it be there is something in these cases that we missed? In early April 2025, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released two major policies on Federal Agency Use of AI and Federal Procurement of AI - OMB memos M-25-21 and M-25-22, respectively. These memos were revised at the direction of President Trump's January 2025 executive order, “Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence” and replaced the Biden-era guidance. Under the direction of the same executive order, the Department of Energy (DOE) also put out a request for information on AI infrastructure on DOE lands, following the announcement of the $500 billion Stargate project that aims to rapidly build new data centers and AI infrastructure throughout the United States. As the Trump administration is poised to unveil its AI Action Plan in the near future, the broader contours of its strategy for AI adoption and acceleration already seem to be falling into place. Is a distinct Trump strategy for AI beginning to emerge—and what will that mean for the United States and the rest of the world? Christopher Luxon says he has no regrets about the Treaty Principles Bill. Parliament's Justice Committee has recommended the bill not proceed when it returns to the House, after public submissions were overwhelmingly opposed to it. The Prime Minister says it's time for the debate to end. He told Mike Hosking allowing the bill to proceed to committee stage, but refusing to support it any further, is the right approach. This week, we've explored the book of Acts in our trek through the New Testament. At this point in history, we see the church expanding, but there is still resistance even in the church itself. From the beginning of the church there have been unnecessary barriers keeping people from Jesus. But God, in His love, refuses to leave these barriers up. We can remove the barriers keeping people from Jesus.

Episode 196Series: On the Mission Field - 20In this installation of the Removing Barriers podcast, we head back to the mission field and talk to David Gates, missionary to Dearborn, MI. Dearborn is in southern Michigan and is a suburb of Detroit. It is famous as the hometown of Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company, as well as for its status as the city with the largest Muslim population in the country. It also has the largest mosque in the nation. With these stats, we may be tempted to engage through fleshly predispositions. David Gates, however, explains in this interview how Dearborn is no different from any other U.S. city, and how a love for Christ and for souls will help us override those predispositions and see the lost souls behind the mosques, the hijabs, or the calls to prayer. Who are the people of Dearborn and how can we best witness to them? Episode 195What do you think about para-church ministries? This is one of those subjects where if you ask a hundred Christians, you may get a hundred different answers. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast we talk with recurring guest Shawn Henly about the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), a worldwide college campus organization that claims it seeks to establish and advance witnessing opportunities of students and faculty. If that sounds a bit like Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), you would be right. But what many of us do not realize is that these organizations, though established with good intentions, are completely infiltrated with unbiblical ideologies like feminism, woke-ism, and racism. We must expose these things to encourage reform and repentance. Shawn Henly of Cross Crusaders has been actively trying to warn and inform Christians of IVCF's departure from the scriptures for a long time now, and he joins us to peel back the rot underneath the veneer of christian evangelism. She is a ball of energy with a desire to change and help those that don't have a voice. At our first formal meeting she tells me all about her job at our local alternative school. Listen as this townie talks working at the juvenile detention center, earning trust and respect, becoming an accidental liaison for the lost pets in our community, turning off social media for self-preservation, losing students to gun violence, student success stories and taking away any excuse not to move forward by providing resources and support to kids who need it. And want it. Alexis has a gift to relate and communicate to those who need help. Thank you, Alexis, for providing our community with brighter futures. Episode 194In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we are delighted to have Tricia as a guest to discuss homeschooling! Tricia is a successful homeschool veteran, having educated her own children and now providing help and encouragement to others. Homeschooling participation had been steadily increasing since the 1980s, but 2020 caused an explosive increase that intensified interest and criticism. The perfect storm of fear, government control, and social unrest shut the world down, and the ideologies infecting the school system were laid bare. Confidence was at an all-time low and suddenly, homeschooling was not just for fundies, zealots, hippies, and conspiracy theorists. Parents began to see it for what it was all along: a reasonable course of action for the education of their children. But is homeschooling the best option? Should we be encouraging parents to educate their children when most of them are not trained educators? What about socialization and extracurricular activities? Tricia has faced the skepticism and criticism that comes with the decision to homeschool, and she helps us peel back the curtain to see it through a lens of wonder and possibility, answering the objections and championing the merits. Episode 193Series: What Do You Believe – 6There is no shortage of religions and cults that promise salvation, joy, peace, or happiness. Followers can number in the billions as is the case with Islam, or it could be millions, as is the case with the Branhamists. Branhamism is the curious theology and collection of doctrines espoused by William M. Branham, a self-proclaimed prophet and faith healer. On today's episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we sit down with recurring guest Leopold to discuss all the tenets of this cult: its history, its leader, and its followers (many of whom persist today despite the evidence). Leopold runs the ministry Edimof, dedicated to teaching biblical truth and exposing false religions. Let us evaluate Branhamism by the Word of God, prayerfully trusting the Lord to remove all the barriers this cult creates to keep people from having a clear view of the cross.Listen to the Removing Barriers Podcast here: Spotify: https://cutt.ly/Ega8YeI Apple Podcast: https://cutt.ly/Vga2SVd Edifi: https://cutt.ly/Meec7nsv YouTube: https://cutt.ly/mga8A77 Podnews: https://podnews.net/podcast/i4jxoSee all our platforms: https://removingbarriers.netContact us: Email us: https://removingbarriers.net/contact Financially support the show: https://removingbarriers.net/donateAffiliates: Book Shop: https://bookshop.org/shop/removingbarriers Answers in Genesis Bookstore: https://shrsl.com/2tu8i Comp and Save: https://shrsl.com/2tu8i BulbHead: https://shrsl.com/4ft37 Share a Sale: https://shrsl.com/2jz4fSee all our affiliates: https://removingbarriers.net/affiliatesNotes: Edimof: https://edimof.org/ Edimof Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@espritdediscernement3554

Episode 192Series: On the Mission Field - 19The Fahringer family is on their way to Chile! In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, Geoffrey Fahringer takes precious time out of his day to tell us more about the country of Chile, the spiritual needs there, and his family's desire to minister to the people there. Chile is a long, narrow, beautiful strip of land in South America spanning from the base of Peru all the way down to the tip of the continent, and jumping the ocean to claim certain parts of Antartica. The people groups are diverse, but the need is the same: a saving faith and growing relationship with the Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ. Geoffrey Fahringer would have never in a million years seen himself as a missionary because he was far along the path of military service and law enforcement. But after the Lord saved him, it became increasingly clear that God had plans for his family in that beautiful country. Geoffrey and his family surrendered, and today we get to hear all about what God has been doing to bring a gospel witness to the people there. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we discuss the tragic incident involving Sydney's death, the actions taken by Officer Peter Liu, whether police-involved mental health checks are conducted in such a way that promotes help for the afflicted and safety for the responders, whether Officer Liu had any other options, and whether this was a case of police brutality, insensitivity, or incompetence. Episode 190 Bonkers - 11 In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we continue our series titled "This World Has Gone Bonkers," where we grab headlines from all over that highlight the madness in our world. We will discuss the power the American president apparently has to just declare an amendment ratified and the law of the land, even when it isn't so. If you didn't realize he had that power, you're in good company, because we sure didn't realize it, either! We also discuss the hottest (no pun intended) dance gone viral as Los Angeles burns to the ground: the Newsom Shimmy! The tone-deaf governor debuted the moves for local news outlets while gleefully announcing ongoing talks with speculators on how to divvy up the charred remains of LA. If that isn't bonkers enough, we also discuss a Satanic temple opening a religious abortion clinic, as well as some doctors who withheld study findings on transgender mental health because the results did not support their activism. While we focus on K-12 education at the Arizona K12 Center, today on 3Ps in a Pod, we're talking about a particular pathway for high school graduates. Today, Amanda Schmidt, a senior development director with NAU Advancement, joins us to talk about ways to remove or lower barriers to post-secondary education and how, as a community, we can all participate in helping others achieve success by lowering financial barriers. Amanda shares about why she encourages students to lead with curiosity when considering post-secondary possibilities and the importance of reaching out to find out what support may exist. There are many avenues available to support students as they attempt to navigate funding and potential gaps in their funding. Amanda offers several suggestions for how students can fill these gaps while pursuing opportunities. As students are investigating what they may want to pursue post-secondary, Amanda suggests starting by being radically honest about what brings you joy and what ignites your passion. She also encourages potential students or program participants to explore the supports that may exist at the place or program you are exploring and ensure they also align with your values. On this podcast, listeners will learn more about the various arms of support designed to assist students pursuing a college or university path. Amanda explains how completing the FAFSA can be a way of sourcing needs-based funds but should also be a point of asking further questions. Amanda and 3Ps host Juliana Urtubey, NBCT, also explore how we can be a part of the community that helps move future generations of students forward and what large impacts that community generosity can have on students. Continue your learning After listening to this episode, use the reflection guide to explore how you might support removing barriers to post-secondary opportunities.
