Michael on kuitenkin koko ajan vannonut syyttömyyttään. Ghislaine Maxwell's habeas corpus petition is, at its core, a reheated attempt to relitigate issues that were already raised, argued, and rejected at trial and on direct appeal—most notably her fixation on alleged juror misconduct. Maxwell centers her petition on the claim that a juror failed to fully disclose past experiences with sexual abuse during voir dire, arguing this tainted the verdict and violated her Sixth Amendment rights. But courts that have already examined this issue concluded that there was no evidence of intentional deception or bias sufficient to overturn the conviction. Habeas relief is not a “do-over” for defendants unhappy with a jury's conclusion, and Maxwell's petition conspicuously ignores the extremely high bar required to show that any alleged juror error had a decisive, unconstitutional impact on the outcome of the trial.Beyond the juror issue, the petition leans heavily on familiar defense talking points—claims of ineffective assistance of counsel, prosecutorial misconduct, and constitutional violations framed in sweeping, conclusory language rather than supported by new, compelling evidence. What's striking is how little the petition grapples with the overwhelming testimonial and documentary record that led to Maxwell's conviction for facilitating and participating in the sexual abuse of minors. Instead, it attempts to recast procedural disputes as fundamental injustices while sidestepping the reality that multiple courts have already found the trial to be fair, the evidence to be strong, and the verdict to be sound. In that sense, the habeas filing reads less like a serious constitutional challenge and more like a last-ditch effort to chip away at a lawful conviction by exhausting every remaining procedural avenue—no matter how thin the underlying arguments have become.to contact me:Ghislaine Maxwell files petition challenging sex trafficking convictionBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

Ghislaine Maxwell has initiated a habeas corpus petition in a last-ditch attempt to challenge her imprisonment, signaling a dramatic escalation in her ongoing legal fight. The filing reveals that Maxwell plans to represent herself as she petitions the court for release, an unusual move that underscores both the desperation and the high-stakes maneuvering behind the scenes. While the petition itself has not yet laid out specific legal grounds, the timing is strategic: Maxwell is making this push just as scrutiny around the Epstein network is intensifying and new transparency measures threaten to expose previously sealed material tied to her case.At the same time, the Justice Department is moving to unseal grand jury records and related documents under newly mandated transparency rules, a shift that Maxwell fiercely opposes. Her legal team argues that releasing these materials could jeopardize any future appeal or post-conviction litigation she may pursue. Advocates for survivors, however, view her filing as yet another attempt to stall public accountability and keep critical details of the Epstein network shielded from view. The collision between Maxwell's habeas corpus bid and the government's unsealing push sets the stage for a pivotal legal showdown—one that could influence not only her own fate but the broader public reckoning surrounding Epstein's crimes.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Ghislaine Maxwell will plea for prison release, new court filing saysBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

What does it look like when the government violates court orders in more than 350 separate immigration habeas cases? On today's episode, Lawfare Senior Editor Molly Roberts sits down with Lawfare Associate Editor Katherine Pompilio to discuss Lawfare's new interactive tracker, which documents what is known about instances in which the Trump administration has failed to comply with federal court orders in immigration habeas corpus proceedings. The two discuss why Lawfare built this tracker and why the project matters beyond any individual case, what the dataset reveals about a broader pattern of government non-compliance, the absence of institutional record-keeping, holding the government accountable, and more.To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare.

The Trump administration came in promising mass deportation. What has followed goes well beyond border control to matters of local policing, detention, federal power, and the limits of the law inside the United States. On this episode of Stanford Legal, co-host Professor Richard Thompson Ford talks with immigration expert Jennifer Chacón, the Bruce Tyson Mitchell Professor of Law, about the Trump administration's immigration enforcement agenda and the profound consequences it is having in cities and communities across the country. They discuss racial profiling, ignored court orders, pressure on states and localities, and the widening reach of immigration enforcement into everyday civic life. Professor Chacón, author of a casebook on immigration law, elaborates on some of the themes in her recently published paper “The Law of the Immigration Raid.” Links: Jennifer Chacón >>> Stanford Law page Legal Phantoms >>> Stanford Law page Immigration Law and Social Justice >>> Stanford Law page Connect: Episode Transcripts >>> Stanford Legal Podcast Website Stanford Legal Podcast >>> LinkedIn Page Rich Ford >>> Twitter/X Pam Karlan >>> Stanford Law School Page Diego Zambrano >>> Stanford Law School Page Stanford Law School >>> Twitter/X Stanford Lawyer Magazine >>> Twitter/X (00:00:00) Immigration Enforcement in 2026 (00:03:47) The Economics of a Closed Border (00:09:58) Closing the Border to Asylum (00:10:44) Profiling in Immigration Enforcement (00:16:48) Courts, Defiance, and Detention (00:25:40) Sanctuary, Commandeering, and the Weaponization of Immigration (00:32:26) How States Can Restore the Humane Dimensions of Immigration Law Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. A federal judge in the Southern District of West Virginia issued a ruling that should be making national headlines but isn't. Hawk walks through the full 34-page opinion by U.S. District Judge Joseph Godwin, who found that ICE agents wearing masks, operating from unmarked vehicles with no license plates, and making warrantless civil arrests violate the Fourth and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. The case centers on Anderson Jesus Urquilla Ramos, a 21-year-old Salvadoran national with a valid driver's license, lawful work authorization, and a pending asylum application, who was pulled over in West Virginia on a pretext stop. Masked federal agents in an unmarked vehicle with no license plate detained him without a warrant, without identifying themselves, and without legal justification. Judge Godwin's opinion traces the Fourth Amendment back to its founding-era roots, the colonial outrage over British general warrants and writs of assistance, and applies that history directly to modern ICE enforcement tactics. The ruling draws on James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Justice Brandeis, and citations ranging from Marbury v. Madison to Katz v. United States. The opinion concludes that a law enforcement practice whose only operational effect is the elimination of accountability is not a safety measure. It is a constitutional deficiency. Hawk also highlights the Fifth Amendment due process violations and the habeas corpus petition that brought the case before the court. This is Fourth Amendment education at its finest, delivered through one of the most clearly reasoned federal opinions in recent memory. In that sense, the habeas filing reads less like a serious constitutional challenge and more like a last-ditch effort to chip away at a lawful conviction by exhausting every remaining procedural avenue—no matter how thin the underlying arguments have become.to contact me:Ghislaine Maxwell files petition challenging sex trafficking convictionBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

In a timely conversation about the ACLU's massive docket of cases, Pam Karlan speaks with Anthony Romero, JD '90, executive director of the ACLU, about the surge of civil rights and civil liberties battles facing the country right now.Romero discusses major pieces of litigation spanning immigration, free speech, voting rights, and government accountability. A key focus is the Supreme Court showdown over birthright citizenship, where the Trump administration is attempting to deny citizenship to certain children born in the U.S., a move Romero calls an attack on one of the core promises of the Fourteenth Amendment. They also explore what happens when the government pushes the boundaries of compliance with court rulings and what that means for the rule of law.Tune in for a compelling conversation about the cases that could help define the next chapter of civil liberties law in the United States.Links:Anthony Romero >>> ACLU pageConnect:Episode Transcripts >>> Stanford Legal Podcast WebsiteStanford Legal Podcast >>> LinkedIn PageRich Ford >>> Twitter/XPam Karlan >>> Stanford Law School PageDiego Zambrano >>> Stanford Law School PageStanford Law School >>> Twitter/XStanford Lawyer Magazine >>> Twitter/X(00:00) Introduction and ACLU's Rapidly Expanding Docket(02:30) Small but Mighty—ACLU vs. Federal Power(07:00) Inside a Burgeoning Docket(11:30) Birthright Citizenship at the Supreme Court(16:00) Enforcement at Scale and the Rule of Law(21:00): An Inflection Point in Public Sentiment Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
This week, explain if we didn't laugh we'd be sobbing all the time. New segment: What did the government do to radicalize you or activate the resistance this week? Coming to you straight from Minneapolis. Amy's arch nemesis Bovino got fired in shame from his job depriving people of their constitutional rights by the administration. Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine fame came to town to give a protest concert at First Avenue with secret special guest The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. Amy and Maya didn't get tickets. Maya explains the bizarre dual worlds they are living in. The Boss wrote a song for Minneapolis celebrating the resistance. P.S. Minneapolis is an impossible word to rhyme and that's why you don't hear a lot of songs about this town. Maya drives through an ICE operation, looses hope, then gets a great message from a friend. Local journalist Georgia Fort and national newsmaker Don Lemon are arrested for journalism. First amendment much? Maya has fond middle school memories of Habeas Corpus. Can we just go back to being fly-over country. Our favorite resistance song this week is about how someone in the administration is a “Bird-legged Ho”. Apparently, kids don't drink out of the hose anymore. Maya reviews The Wrecking Crew starring friendly hunks Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa. Maya reviews Predator: Badlands. Amy explains a very specific Bad Bunny dance.
Confira no Morning Show desta sexta-feira (30): O caso do Banco Master ganha novos desdobramentos. O Morning Show traz atualizações sobre o caso do cão "Orelha". Essas e outras notícias você confere no Morning Show.

In that sense, the habeas filing reads less like a serious constitutional challenge and more like a last-ditch effort to chip away at a lawful conviction by exhausting every remaining procedural avenue—no matter how thin the underlying arguments have become.to contact me:Ghislaine Maxwell files petition challenging sex trafficking conviction

The collision between Maxwell's habeas corpus bid and the government's unsealing push sets the stage for a pivotal legal showdown—one that could influence not only her own fate but the broader public reckoning surrounding Epstein's crimes.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Ghislaine Maxwell will plea for prison release, new court filing says

As the Trump administration continues its aggressive mass deportation campaign, immigration lawyers are increasingly turning to a law the founding fathers established to protect against a king. The use of habeas corpus petitions has skyrocketed in recent months. Reporter: Gustavo Solis, KPBS Governor Gavin Newsom has shut down four prisons, with a fifth closure on its way. He's said those changes, along with some other reductions, are saving the state around $900 million a year. But according to a new report, the state's corrections department is still running a huge deficit. Reporter: Cayla Mihalovich, CalMatters Learn more about your ad choices. Clay and historian Beau Breslin discuss the doctrine of habeas corpus and its role in the current debate about how to handle undocumented immigrants in the United States. In a nutshell, habeas corpus means "hey, produce the body." You cannot just arbitrarily snatch someone off the street and make them disappear. Habeas corpus was so important to the Founding Fathers that they embedded it in the first Article of the Constitution, right off the top, and did not postpone it to the Bill of Rights. The United States has a mixed history of its adherence to the doctrine of habeas corpus, which Beau Breslin believes is THE fundamental right in America and all over the world. And yet, Professor Breslin, who teaches at an elite college in New York state, admitted that the majority of his students, even in a class on constitutional theory, would probably be unable to define just what habeas corpus means, where it came from, and why it is critically important to a free and enlightened society. SEASON 4 EPISODE 2: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: The United States of America does not have a functioning government. The Trump Dictatorship and the Library of Congress – Congress which Mike Johnson runs via a porn app – DELETED part of the official online edition of the Constitution – the part that limits the suspension of Habeas Corpus and bans presidents accepting foreign bribes. The Library says it was a coding error and would be fixed soon…ish. Yeah, the coding in Trump’s DNA. The White House had to DENY that the White House Chief of Staff was to meet last night with the Vice President, the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, and the FBI Director to discuss what to DO about the Trump/Epstein cover-up scandal, and what to do WITH the RECORDING of the Deputy Attorney General’s two days’ of bargaining with a convicted pedophile and child sex trafficker… and nobody seemed to notice that the headline was that WHATEVER the Chief of Staff, A-G, Deputy A-G, and FBI Director WERE meeting with the Vice President ABOUT… the PRESIDENT WASN’T GOING TO BE THERE. There is no competent executive authority, no congressional or senate oversight, no reliable judiciary. The United States of America does NOT NOW have a functioning government. The nominal president has spent the last few days making up economic statistics and poll numbers and threatening his predecessors with prosecution for imaginary crimes punishable by death while wandering around the roof of the White House, and phoning in to a business network with racist moronity the content of which is just this side of a 19th century minstrel show, or continuing to get more and more in bed, figuratively, with a convicted pedophile and child sex trafficker, in a scheme to cover-up her crimes, her late partner crimes, and whatever the president’s role was or was not… in them. And the first and seventh people in the line of presidential succession were going to have dinner with their Epstein expert who just met with Gulaine Maxwell and the head of the FBI and the woman who RUNS the White House but NOT the president and you know it almost doesn’t MATTER if they were meeting to try to figure out what to do about Trumpsteen or not. By 3:14 PM Eastern the Library of Congress said Sections 8, 9 and 10 of the 1st Article were back online so, shrug emoji, I guess there are limits on emoluments and suspending Habeas Corpus… for now. Fifteen minutes later, however, there were still huge swaths of all three sections missing from the official online version of the Constitution. But coding. And so what, it’s just the ONLINE version, what’s the difference? Trump just fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics because she wouldn’t delete the official online jobs numbers and will soon find someone to post fabricated numbers online which will then be accepted as real – and official – because they’re ONLINE. Tomorrow is the day Tina Peters' habeas corpus will be argued in court. Please send your prayers and show your support. You can find more information at tinapeters.us. Next, Hunter Biden joined Channel 5 for an interview, and to say it was an embarrassment is an understatement. Throughout the entire interview, Biden used vulgar language, levied threats against officials, posed ridiculous hypotheticals, and made baseless claims. The Biden PR team is going to have their work cut out for them after this one. Next, the DOJ and NIA are getting to work, with the DOJ investigating the Clinton emails and pursuing criminal charges against Jerome Powell, and Tulsi Gabbard continues to release more information implicating Obama in the RussiaGate hoax. It was a wild weekend. Donald Trump presided over a military parade on his birthday while an estimated 5 million Americans protested around the country. Phil, Skye, and Kaitlyn discuss the optics of both events and ask, with America's divided politics and media silos, is protesting still effective? They also unpack a new article by Abby McCloskey in CT that argues evangelicalism's focus on a private, personalized faith undermines learning, curiosity, and exercising the mind. Then, theologian and Holy Post Pundit, Michael Bird, is back. He offers an outsider's perspective on Trump's military parade, the “No Kings” protests, and why he thinks more Christians should be concerned about the suspension of habeas corpus.
