The conversation also touches on the nature of thoughts, reality, and the philosophical questions surrounding surveillance and divine omniscience, ultimately leading to a discussion on mindfulness and compassion in everyday interactions. In this engaging conversation, the hosts delve into the vastness of space and the fear it evokes, drawing parallels between science fiction and reality. They explore the concept of God from various perspectives, emphasizing the importance of understanding and empathy in relationships, particularly with children. The discussion also highlights the need for generational wisdom in navigating technological advancements and the significance of agency and empowerment in personal connections.

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who Podcast

I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun and God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind. It's just that. Just kind. On a quiet farm on a distant spaceship, the Doctor makes his last stand. Because that's what he always does. It's The Doctor Falls. Notes and links Nathan compares the Missy/Master dynamic to a similar situation found in the late Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Second Chances, in which we meet a transporter clone of Commander Riker who is still in love with Deanna Troi, while his original version has long since moved on from that relationship. (We are yet to cover this one on Untitled Star Trek Project.) He also compares the Missy/Master hug to a similar one from the Blakes 7 episode Traitor, in which Servalan snogs a character called Leitz, who is blackmailing her, and then stabs him in the back of the neck with a plastic crystal thing. We will talk more about this during our coverage of Blakes 7 Series D on Maximum Power, which starts just three weeks from today. In The World Shapers (1987), a Doctor Who Magazine comic strip written by Grant Morrison, it is established that the Mondasian Cybermen were descended from the Voord from The Keys of Marinus. Bill's final speech to the unconscious Doctor at the end of this episode seems to allude to a similar speech from Moffat's first Doctor Who story, The Curse of Fatal Death (1999), in which the Doctor's companion Emma (Julia Sawalha) says “Doctor, listen to me. You can't die, you're too nice, too brave, too kind and far, far too silly. You're like Father Christmas, the Wizard of Oz, Scooby Doo. And I love you very much. And we all need you, and you simply cannot die.” You can — and should — watch The Curse of Fatal Death on YouTube. Picks of the Week Todd Todd recommends the Special Edition of The Happiness Patrol, which restores many deleted scenes and adds some clever and sympathetically designed new special effects. It's available on the Season 25 box set of Doctor Who: The Collection. (Amazon UK) (Amazon US) (Amazon AU) Peter Peter recommends the Surgeons of Horror podcast series on Doctor Who, The Horror of Who, which has featured Brendan, Peter and Nathan. In the episode Hartnell's Horror Part 4: The Cybermen, Peter explains what makes the Cybermen from The Tenth Planet so brilliant and effective. Brendan Brendan recommends George Sheard's reimagining of these two episodes as a 1960s Doctor Who story as Genesis of the Cybermen: World Enough and Time Noir. Check out the trailer here. Nathan Nathan recommends our other Doctor Who podcast, 500 Year Diary, which will be taking over from Flight Through Entirety for a few years while FTE takes a well-earned break. In our first season, New Beginnings, we discussed six episodes in Doctor Who and its spinoffs, where a show is making a new or fresh start. We'll be back with a second season early in 2025. Untitled Star Trek Project

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Series 3, Episode 3. First broadcast on Monday 9 October 1989. On the ravaged surface of the Federation colony planet Rana IV, the crew of the USS Enterprise are surprised to discover an excitingly modernist Malibu home set in a lush, quadrilateral garden; after landing on the planet with an away team, Will Riker is surprised to find himself dangling upside down by his ankles; soon after that Deanna Troi is surprised to find herself suffering from an unpleasant and potentially fatal earworm. Meanwhile, back in 1990, Nathan Bottomley and a very young Joe Ford are increasingly surprised to discover a new season of Star Trek: The Next Generation which is easily surpassing both its predecessors in both competence and interest.

The Loss (Star Trek: The Next Generation, S4 E10) was recommended by Leslie, She/her, who said: Deanna Troi is my favorite TNG character, because she's a senior bridge officer, counselor to the Captain/ship, has a special ability, loves chocolate, is gorgeous, and she's in an on again/off again relationship with First Officer Will Riker. She's a likeable, strong female character in a male-dominated universe (at least at that time in Star Trek). I like this episode because it gives us insight into Troi's job as counselor to the ship's personnel. It's a "day in the life" episode. I also like that we see Troi working with Data, who could be considered opposites in that Troi has all the feelings and Data has none. However, it always felt a bit unsatisfactory because the solution that Troi and Data work out turns out to be wrong. So that seems to be telling us that Troi without her empathic power is useless in saving the Enterprise, even if her skills as a therapist do help her patient. The Loss first aired on December 31, 1990, written by story by Hilary J. Bader, teleplay by Hilary J. Bader & Allan J. Adler & Vanessa Greene, and directed by Chip ChalmersThe Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

When the Enterprise comes across a fellow Starfleet ship, the Brittian, and everyone onboard is murdered, it's Picard and company's job to figure out why they all went bananas before the bananas happen to them! Well to figure this death-conudrum out (DEATH-UNDRUM), Picard actually doesn't do much, and Ri-dog neither. Luckily this high-falutin Galaxy-Class death trap comes with a robot because the Captain's got to hand over the wheel. Seems the crew on the Brittain killed each other save one mumbling Betazed who's the only one left alive (so this dude probably killed the last person -- right? They never talk about it!) It's not only Data but Deanna Troi doing the heavy lifting on this one -- I mean look at the cleavage when she's flying. Support your back counselor! --as she is the only one on the ship who can dream. But they ain't dreams, honey -- they're nightmares! The crew continues on a downward spiral as Bev and Diana take leadership roles while Picard gets his mind blown by a nightmare elevator accident and Riker gets snakes on his feet. Things ramp up when O'Brien becomes crankier than ever, and Whoopie pulls an automatic! Whoopie! Whoopie? At least this sister act get's to fire an actual laser! Can Diana communicate with the dream ship on the other side of the space rip thing in time? Can Picard put his trust in his android pal, Data -- yes, yes he can. Can Data show us that he can run this Galaxy Class bitch all by himself? Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

We spoke about how the show was able to develop the character after the first season, and even delved into her voiceover work. Sirtis was one of the voices on the popular Disney animated series, "Gargoyles." We chatted about that, plus much more in this fun, in-depth conversation!

The gang returns for another late-night Q&A—but first, as a little warm-up, we recap Dave's visit to Pizzeria Bianco, Chris's Newport Seafood birthday experience, dinner-course deluges, and what happens when the kitchen writes Hufflepuff on the ticket. Then the questions begin. Confronted on this episode: potato antimatter, figs on a plate, gas station Jojos, curly fry engineering, the beauty of a properly poured Guinness, wedding registry advice, Kewpie mayo, booze that comes in a pleather case, Deanna Troi, and really, really good fruit.
