Asha Degree was just nine years old when she disappeared from her home in Shelby, North Carolina, more than 25 years ago. Since then, various law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, have been working to solve the case. In the past few months there appears to have been some movement in the case. In this episode we hear from the hosts of the podcast Crackhouse Chronicles https://www.crackhousechronicles.com/ . Donnie Peeler and Dale Champion, have been involved in the case of Asha Degree since her disappearance in 2000. They have done many episodes on the case since starting their podcast and have a unique vantage point due to the fact they are from Asha's hometown of Shelby, NC. In September 2024, several search warrants were executed by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, as part of an investigation into the connection between Asha's disappearance and a local family. These warrants named the Dedmon family members—Roy Dedmon, his wife Connie Dedmon, and their three daughters: AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez, Lizzie Dedmon Foster, and Sarah Dedmon Caple. It was during the execution of these search warrants that investigators publicly announced for the first time that they believed Asha Degree had been murdered. Additionally, authorities suggested that the Dedmon sisters might have had a role in the suspected crime. However, the Dedmon family has consistently denied any involvement in the disappearance of Asha Degree. In February 2025, WBTV obtained three new search warrants related to the ongoing investigation. These warrants were executed on February 13, 2025, as part of the continuing effort to uncover the truth. A new witness has come forward, claiming to have heard a confession related to the case. At the time Asha disappeared, Lizzie Foster was 16 years old, and Sarah Dedmon Caple was 15. The witness stated that he had socialized with the Dedmon sisters at various bars and house parties in the mid-2000s. He alleged that during one particular house party, he overheard Foster confess something related to Asha's disappearance. A Baptist pastor accused of first-degree murder has been granted a $30,000 bond after spending more than two years in jail awaiting trial. Matthew Lynn Dedmon, 49, was given the opportunity to leave custody under strict conditions, including house arrest and GPS monitoring. Dedmon, formerly of Heritage Baptist Church in Springfield, was arrested on May 28, 2022, following an incident in which he allegedly shot 57-year-old Joe Newburn multiple times in the chest. The shooting occurred in the Ozark Courthouse Square Historic District. Authorities say Dedmon confronted Newburn after spotting him with his wife at a local restaurant, leading to what police describe as a violent reaction over an alleged affair. Newburn succumbed to his injuries the following day. Charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, Dedmon had been held without bond as legal proceedings became entangled in discovery disputes and debates over witness endorsements for the upcoming trial. In September 2022, Judge Laura Johnson denied Dedmon's request for bond, citing concerns about public safety and the seriousness of the charges. "The evidence is that Defendant possessed a loaded gun on the square in Ozark outside a busy restaurant, and that gun was discharged three to four times, resulting in the victim's death. This put everyone on the square in grave danger," Judge Johnson wrote at the time. "The seriousness of the charge increases the risk that Defendant will not appear." However, on October 1, Judge Johnson reversed her earlier decision, setting a $30,000 bond with conditions that Dedmon remain under house arrest and wear a GPS monitor. "Defendant may leave his home only for court appearances and emergency medical attention," the judge ordered. The defense argued that Dedmon deserved a bond, noting his strong family ties, lack of criminal history, and the delays caused by what they termed the prosecution's "inexcusable act of late endorsements" of additional trial witnesses. "This case has been pending for well over two years," the defense filing stated. "Should the Court grant the State's motion to endorse, in whole or in part, that the Defendant should be granted release on bond due to the State's inexcusable act of late endorsements, which if allowed, will cause an inevitable lengthy delay of the Defendant's trial." As of Monday afternoon, records from the Christian County Jail did not indicate that Dedmon had been released. Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Tuohy declined to comment on the bond decision or the defense's allegations regarding witness endorsements, citing the ongoing nature of the case. Defense attorney Stacie Calhoun Bilyeu has not issued a public statement. The victim, Joe Newburn, was a father of five and an avid car enthusiast. An obituary described him as "the guy next door that everyone wanted to know." The case continues to unfold as both sides prepare for the eventual trial. Dedmon's next court appearance has not been publicly scheduled. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In a significant development regarding the disappearance of Asha Degree, authorities now believe that Asha was killed shortly after she went missing in 2000. Recent search warrants, released in September 2024, reveal that investigators think her body was concealed following her death. This marks a critical shift in the investigation, which had long been a cold case. The investigation has focused on DNA evidence found in Asha's belongings, specifically her backpack, which was discovered 17 months after her disappearance. This evidence has been linked to individuals from the local community, including Russell Underhill, who died in 2004, and AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez, who was 13 years old at the time of Asha's disappearance. Underhill had been living in a facility managed by Roy Dedmon, whose family is now under scrutiny in connection with the case.Authorities recently conducted searches at several properties connected to the Dedmon family, seizing items of interest, including electronics and a vehicle that matches the description of a car seen near the site of Asha's last sighting. While no human remains have been recovered, investigators believe this new evidence brings them closer to solving the case.No arrests have been made yet, but the case remains active, and investigators are hopeful that these leads will finally provide answers after more than two decades.(commercial at 7:06)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Asha Degree disappearance is 'solved' 24 years after nine year-old vanished, as cops share disturbing breakthrough | Daily Mail Online

In a deeply disturbing episode of police misconduct in Mississippi, six former white police officers entered guilty pleas on charges stemming from breaking into a home and torturing two Black residents. This shocking incident, which involved racial abuse, physical torture, and an attempted coverup, has raised concerns about the state of policing and racial biases in law enforcement. Incident Details and Background On January 24, Christian Dedmon, Hunter Elward, Brett McAlpin, Jeffrey Middleton, and Daniel Opdyke, all formerly affiliated with the Rankin County Sheriff's Office, along with Joshua Hartfield from the Richland Police Department, unlawfully invaded the residence where Michael Jenkins, 32, and Eddie Parker, 35, were living. The house belonged to Kristi Walley, a paralyzed woman whom Parker, a childhood friend, was assisting with care. This vile act was set into motion when Brett McAlpin, the chief investigator from the Rankin County Sheriff's Office, was informed about two Black men living at a property by his neighbor. Dedmon was asked to address this complaint. Based on the federal complaint secured by PEOPLE, Dedmon reached out to fellow officers Middleton, Elward, and Opdyke, infamously known as the “Goon Squad” due to their violent tendencies and a history of cover-ups. Through group messages, they plotted the attack, making sinister arrangements and instructions on how to avoid leaving evidence. Details of the Assault Upon arrival, they tactically maneuvered to avoid surveillance cameras and forcefully entered the residence. What transpired over the next two hours was nothing short of horrifying. Both Parker and Jenkins were tasered, handcuffed, and subjected to an unwarranted arrest. The officers engaged in a campaign of abuse which included kicking, berating the victims with racial slurs, inappropriate use of objects, and forcing both men to take showers to erase evidence of their abuse. As the ordeal continued, Jenkins endured a gunshot to his mouth that left him severely injured. Attempted Coverup The officers didn't stop at physical abuse. In their attempt to cover their tracks, they hatched a plan involving planting drugs on Jenkins and fabricating a story about the shooting. Middleton even suggested placing a ‘throw-down' gun on Jenkins. Repercussions and Reactions The aftermath of this gruesome incident has been significant. The attorney representing Parker and Jenkins, Malik Shabazz, remarked that these guilty pleas were "historic," highlighting this as the first time in Mississippi history that a white law enforcement officer faced criminal charges for misconduct against a Black person. Jenkins and Parker's trauma runs deep, with the actions of the officers leaving a lasting scar on the Rankin County community. Despite the tarnished reputation of the police force, Sheriff Bryan Bailey addressed the incident, stating that the actions of a few had tainted the entire department. Bailey, along with the former officers, is now facing a staggering $400-million lawsuit from the victims. Attorneys for the officers have made various statements, with many acknowledging the gravity of their client's actions and their readiness to face the consequences. Dedmon, Elward, McAlpin, and Middleton's representatives have yet to comment. Conclusion This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the deep-seated issues of racial bias and police misconduct that persist in certain parts of the United States. As the story continues to gain traction, there is hope that this case will lead to systemic changes in the way policing is done and ensure that such heinous acts do not recur in the future.

You may have been experiencing or hearing business owners grumble about how hard it is to find good workers. Or that the ones they have don't put in max effort. According to Gallup, only 33% of employees in the U.S. are considered engaged in their job. That means there are a lot of “slackers” out there, right? Before you start bringing out the axe to chop off part of your workforce, you need to start identifying “why” employees are disengaged. There are multiple reasons this can be happening but a common one is their personal life is being challenged and they don't feel they have someone to talk to. So like it or not, what's going on at home will effect their work performance. But as an employer, how can you help everyone's personal needs? You have a business to run. Introducing Marketplace Chaplains. A unique twist on the chaplains you would see at a hospital or in the military. These are safe “spaces” for employees to confide with. Why should you care? It's not only good for the employee but you'll also see an increase in productivity, morale, and the bottom line. Basically, it's good for business. Listen in as we talk to Danica Dedmon of Marketplace Chaplains and hear what your employees are dealing with and how you can improve the overall health of the organization by caring for their personal needs.
