TOONHOUNDSMON DIGI-ARMOR DIGIVOLVE TO.... NEWEPISODEMON Hello. This week we were joined by friend of the show N8Bit to discuss one of the most convoluted, complex, complicated, convex and concave movies we've ever seen: Digimon The Movie. A Frankenstein's monster of a film stitched together from three separate releases. But we also watched the first episode of Digimon Tamers, a series rightfully well loved by many, and the sort of thing that would have gotten us so many likes on social media if we bothered with that shit.
Do you think Digimon Tamers is just another kids' show? Think again. Join us as we dissect one of the darkest and most mature seasons in the Digimon series. With a focus on the tightly-knit trio of Takato, Rika, and Henry, we explore how the show's smaller cast enables deep character development and a cohesive narrative, free from the filler episodes that plagued earlier seasons. We draw comparisons to popular series like Naruto to illustrate just how well Tamers balances an expanded roster while maintaining story depth.Calumon, Digivolutions, and offbeat timelines—oh my! Dive into the lore of Digimon Tamers as we unravel the enigmatic role of Calumon and its impact on the Digital World. We'll also discuss how Tamers cleverly exists outside the main Digimon timeline, providing a fresh take while paying homage to the original series. Expect some geeky parallels with other franchises like Devil May Cry as we share how Tamers reboots the franchise without losing its roots. You'll see familiar tropes in a new light, as we analyze Takato's struggles and triumphs, paralleling them with iconic moments from previous seasons. From the formidable D-Reapers to the heart-wrenching death of Leomon, this episode does not shy away from heavy themes. We discuss the emotional turmoil faced by our heroes and the darker narrative tone that sets this season apart. We explore significant moments, including Takato's dark Digivolution and the subsequent battle against the D-Reaper program, culminating in a touching after-credit scene that promises hope and continuity. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the world of Digimon, this episode promises a rich, engaging analysis of Digimon Tamers that showcases why it remains a beloved chapter in the franchise.Text us for feedback and recommendations for future episodes!Support the Show.We thank everyone for listening to our podcast! Digimon was supposed to be Pokémon‘s biggest rival? Someone should have told Digimon. When it comes to monster companion anime, Digimon is probably in the top 5 all time but for a number of reasons, by the time Digimon Tamers wrapped up, Digimon was well in decline in terms of US popularity. The card game was cancelled, the next anime series (Digimon Frontiers) was widely panned and things never got better for the franchise promoting the question: What went wrong? The crew or NICE Entertainment are tapping in this week and discussing what went wrong with Digimon? Was it the monsters? The stories? The kids? All of the above? What about the card games and video games? What would Digimon need to do to re-enter the public consciousness? All that and more on your favorite pop culture podcast.
This week we watched Digimon Tamers, episodes 34-36! Keeping the nostalgia train going (Choo-Choo!). We remember it being one of the better, if not best, product from the Digimon series so we couldn't resist seeing if it held up or not. Join us and find out! Synopsis Digimon Tamers takes place in a world where the popular Digimon franchise is all the rage, consisting of a cartoon, video games, and the trading card game. Takato Matsuda is a huge Digimon fan that's particularly obsessed with the card game, and constantly daydreams about the universe therein. One day, he finds a mysterious blue card, which he slides through a scanner toy to use in the popular battle game. His toy suddenly glows and transforms into a Digivice, and Takato's fan-made design, Guilmon, materialises in front of him. Thrilled by the prospect of having a real-life Digimon, Takato embraces his new partner, and his adventures as a Digimon Tamer begin. Show Info Digimon Tamers series aired from 2001 to 2002 and ran a total of 51 episodes. I hear the Digis comin'; they're rolling 'round the bend.
Very special episode of Agitator today! We have Jack Mason of The Perfume Nationalist and Wren Collier on to talk about 1998's Serial Experiments: Lain. We talk: theme songs, prescient art, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Persona 2 vs Lain, is Lain the e-girl prototype?, Amelie syndrome, suicide galaxy brain, is Lain real?, sinister video games, Roswell aliens, Michael Jackson as God, MJ-12, Lain = The Invisibles?, Mysterious Skin, Whitley Strieber, Greg Araki, Cronenberg is the moment, theater walkouts, late-90s anti-Christian religiosity, killing god through paradox, who is God?, favorite Lain outfit, Lain's forelock, Lain as a dream machine, Mobile Suit Gundam, social terror, masks are fake, masturbation and porn, being a cryptolib, anti-anonymity, not being raped by Jack, archetypes of the future, Digimon Tamers, and S. Jake and Jon discuss the champions, Digimon. The pair try hard to stay on task discussing Digimon Tamers, a standalone season of the series. Chosen for its mature take on the franchise the delves into trauma of its characters as the children deal with hardships, such as death of a friend, depression, and other potential harm they face on Earth or the Digital world. That said the pair discuss various things like Saban and other properties, from power rangers to things like Van-pires and the one guy from Big Bad Beetleborgs. But join Jake and Jon as they discuss the world of Digimon digital monsters and how Tamers started as being set in the real world where Digimon is a game and show only to see that it was bleeding over into the real world something the original developers never thought possible. But as Digimon emerge so do their human partners known as tamers. Takato, the series goggleheaded leader, and his partner Guilmon, the goodest boy digimon, go from fun loving friends to champions of justice. Rika, the tamer known as the Digimon Queen, and Renamon, the fox with the drive to be the best, go from cold hearted fighters to caring friends. Henry, son of one of the original Digimon coders, and Terriermon, the bunny with a sarcastic attitude as big as his ears, go from hiding from fights to protecting those they care about. Jeri and Leomon from shining optimism to heartbreak. Kazu and Guardromon, full of it and a copycat respectively. Kenta and Marineangemon, kind of a bitch and a cute little angel. Ryo and Cyberdramon, the best of the best. Suzie and Lopmon, a little girl and her bunny. And Impmon, who goes fromca prankster that sounds like he should be on the Sopranos to a quest from redemption. Watch Digimon tamers and give us a listen.
Ignacio (He/Him) from the video game podcast Crossplay joins us to talk about Digimon Tamers. In a world where Digimon is a fictional game, young Takato draws a picture of his original Digimon Guilmon -- and it comes to life! His friends soon pair up with Digimon of their own, and the kids travel to the Digital World, where they explore these partnerships and the unique evolutions of their Digimon as they fight the furious Beelzemon. We compare the English dub to the original Japanese script and discuss food metaphors, characters who crossed over from the video games to the anime, a kid's introductions to more dramatic storytelling, and a bird biker with three eyes. Radio Mike and Glass Boy Alex muse on music, argue about games, analyse anime and more, this week on your one stop pop-culture podcast, Popped!! This week, Mike's been playing Donkey Kong Country and as a result the boys end up discussing Donkey Kong's family tree for longer than anyone really should. He's also been watching Digimon Tamers, which leads the two down yet another rabbit hole about their childhood shows. Alex catches up with the new DMAs record and has a new album by illuminati hotties to recommend. Finally, there's a new game trailer doing the rounds for a game titled "Gamer Girl" and unsurprisingly it's not being received well.. so of course Mike and Alex need to weigh in.
