Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed... It doesnt matter which prophet we look to, they all wanted us to follow their footsteps. They did not want us to idiolize them or build statues that we pray to. It is our task to follow their light and to practice being the love they lived so fully. Developing positive qualities like compassion is an important aspect of not only healing and growing as a human being, but also to open our heart and mind to our true nature of ever-present awareness. In this episode I share some important nuggets about compassion and I share a variation of a powerful meditation with you guys that I learned from Dustin Diperna. Join the author and Integral scholar John Dupuy in a wide-ranging exploration of the principles of intoxication, addiction, and sobriety. The conversation begins with the origins of his landmark book, Integral Recovery, and John's experience with the traditional 12 step program. How does alcohol, and other substances, work to alter our relationship to the contents of our mind? Are there healthier ways to alter this relationship, like meditation? He then offers a rich rendering of the integral approach, including a thorough look at quadrants, levels, lines, stages, states (we are all state junkies), and shadow work. Why are all these factors important, and how does one engage them all? What is the difference between distress and eustress, and their relationship to translation and transformation?John elaborates on the use of spiral dynamics as a developmental schema, and the difference between dominator and actualization hierarchies, before talking about alcohol and other substances as devolutionary drivers. How can we use all this information to enhance skillful means for helping others? The discussion then explores the benefits of the Enneagram, as a method to better understand ourselves and others. These are all maps of the prison, and therefore very helpful if we want to make a prison break. The power of projection, enveloped in shadow work, is discussed in depth, including the 3-2-1 process of reintegration that allows us to take ownership of our shadows. Without this inner work, the “beasts in the basement” of our mind will constantly take us down, and back to the bottle.John shares his rich experience with brain wave entrainment, how it works, how to use it, and why it's not cheating. The conversation closes with a deep dive into how addiction is a matter of degree, and how we are all addicts, whether we know it or not. Andrew shares his experience of “detox” in extended retreat, and the discovery of his addiction to thought and movement. Can one legitimately reduce conventional addiction, intoxication, and sobriety, to fundamental principles? What does “being sober” really mean? Is enlightenment the ultimate sobriety? John's ability to join heaven and earth, book smarts with street smarts, makes him uniquely qualified to talk about these complex issues, and then bolt them into practical life. This podcast connects to material discussed in conversations with Ken Wilber, Dustin DiPerna, Roger Walsh, and Judson Brewer.

In addition to offering healing and leading workshops, he has worked with renowned teachers such as Kyle Cease, Lorraine DeLear, Dustin Diperna, Anna-Lisa Adelberg, John Churchill, and many more. When he was 32, a surfboard bashed into his head when he was out surfing one day. Left unconscious in the ocean until a complete stranger pulled him out and saved his life, he was never the same again. After that near-death experience, he questioned his identity and purpose, noticing how he became incredibly present to the world in a way he had never experienced before. He worked side-by-side with incredible teachers and became a student at the Luminous Awareness Institute. He's worked with hundreds of clients that have come to him for reasons that vary from physical pain, trauma, life struggles, business challenges, deepening their spiritual practice, developing their psychic gifts, relationship/family support and too many other topics to name. I've always been mystified by the concept of transpersonal psychology and Ken Wilber's Integral Theory. Dustin DiPerna, Harvard-trained scholar of world religions, meditation teacher, and author of several books, including Streams of Wisdom, Evolution's Ally, and Earth is Eden, took this one on for me. Dustin and I spoke about a host of topics, including his brief foray into the fashion industry as a young man, which led to his attempt to become a monk, which then lead to his years of study with philosopher and creator of Integral Theory, Ken Wilber, and a prosperous career as a heart-centered intellectual. Dustin led us through a short and beautiful meditation to close the conversation.

Power Quotes From The Show "If you're not willing to do the inner work, you're fighting yourself. You have to be willing to find that place inside of you that knows there's something more to life, relationships, and feeling whole." - Andrew DeGregorio on @wellnessforce http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "With EMDR Therapy, I began to realize that doing inner work was drastically changing my outer world including giving me things that I've always wanted. It helped me have deeper relationships with my mom, friends, and connect more and more with the people in my life but I wasn't doing anything else except for inner work. Before the inner work, I had been taught that I need to work hard, fight through fear, and get out there to just do what I can but none of that ever worked for me. Therapy really changed my life." -  Andrew DeGregorio "As you do the inner work, you'll start to find that we all have these gifts that we didn't know were in there. We are superheroes; we have these powers and gifts that are absolutely amazing; they're just not in the mental field. You have to get out of the mind and into the body to be able to access the different levels and layers of this field of energy. We all have it; we're just not aware of it." -  Andrew DeGregorio "You don't have to do this inner work alone. That's one of the biggest lessons I've learned while on this healing journey. You don't have to do this alone and it actually takes longer to create new pathways if you're by yourself. If you have multiple people and sources helping you, then you can create these pathways at a much faster rate." -  Andrew DeGregorio Links From Today's Show Andrew DeGregorio Facebook LinkedIn Andrew's full story Heal with Andrew Contact Andrew How One Guy’s Journey To Find His Purpose Led To A Viral Video And The Career Of His Dreams What is EMDR? He was left unconscious in the ocean until a complete stranger pulled him out and saved his life. Andrew was never the same again. Andrew began to question his identity and purpose. He became incredibly present to the world in a way he never experienced before. Andrew took it upon himself to dive deep into a spiritual practice and that was where he discovered many of his gifts. He graduated from a 2-year program at the Luminous Awareness institute where he trained to become a guide in awakening and healing. Since then, he's worked with hundreds of clients (with 5-star ratings on Yelp) that have come for reasons that vary from physical pain, trauma, life struggles, business challenges, deepening their spiritual practice, developing their psychic gifts, relationship/family support and too many other topics to name. As a stand-up comedian, transformational speaker, intuitive counselor, and healer, Andrew brings together a unique blend of modalities that allows him to share his gifts with compassion and humor. In addition to offering healing and leading workshops, Andrew has trained with renowned teachers such as Lorraine DeLear, Dustin Diperna, Kyle Cease, Anna-Lisa Adelberg, John Churchill, Peter Cummings and many more.     Get More Wellness In Your Life Join the WFR Community on facebook Send Josh Trent a personal message Tweet me on Twitter: Send us a fun tweet (or a what's up) Comment on the Facebook page Sign up to get an email alert whenever we release a new episode Support This Podcast Leave a 5 star review on iTunes Share this episode with someone you care about Contact Wellness Force Radio for podcast sponsorship and partnership opportunities Rate & Review Wellness Force ---> REVIEW THE PODCAST Ask A Live Question For The Next Episode ---> Click here to leave a voicemail directly to Josh Trent to be read live on the air.  You May Also Like These Episodes Food Freedom Forever With Melissa Hartwig Nir Eyal: Breaking Bad Habits, Technology Addiction, & Emotional Triggers Healthy, Happy & Harder To Kill w/ Steph Gaudreau of Stupid Easy Paleo Beyond Meditation: How To Get A Better Brain With Ariel Garten Living A Healthy Lifestyle In A Modern World With Dan Pardi Creating A Life Worth Living With Michael Strasner   Join the Wellness Force Newsletter: www.wellnessforce.com/news Don't miss next week's show: Subscribe and stay updated Did you like this show on Ketosis? Rate and review Wellness Force on iTunes You read all the way to the bottom? Oftentimes as we move along our path of spiritual evolution, we have religious experiences that are distressing, or we discover that the religion of our childhood no longer serves us. Rev. Kelly's guest is Dustin DiPerna, who will clue us in to how religion itself can be expressed through multiple lenses and various levels of awareness, offering us great insight into three filters: Social Filter, Cultural Filter and Individual Filter. We use these various ways to see how religion shows up in our daily lives so that we no longer need to throw the baby out with the religious bath water!
