They also discuss how poverty is often reduced to income deprivation and how that framing has made conservation and development programs to focus heavily on cash-based incentives and payment schemes. Rachel argues that poverty is way more than income deprivation; instead, it must be understood as multidimensional, encompassing wellbeing, dignity, health, education, security, and access to social services. This broader understanding challenges narrow approaches to both poverty alleviation and conservation governance. Another important theme in their discussion is connected conservation, which emphasizes the interconnected relationships between people, ecosystems, livelihoods, cultural practices, and local knowledge systems, rather than viewing conservation and human wellbeing as separate or competing goals. In this context, Rachel reflects on biocultural conservation and the importance of recognizing the ways communities live with, care for, and understand their environments and what these relationships can teach us about more just and meaningful approaches to conservation in a rapidly changing world. C'était un Liège-Bastogne-Liège historique. Celui où notre jeune français, Paul Seixas, a résisté au grand Tadej Pogacar. Et souvent quand on attend un évènement sportif avec autant d'impatience et d'espoir on peut en ressortir déçu. Cela n'a pas été le cas, bien au contraire, et les étoiles brillent encore dans les yeux de tous les amateurs de vélo. La Doyenne des classiques, dernière course de ce printemps du vélo qui restera dans les annales a donc apporté des réponses aux nombreuses questions que l'on se posait. La première d'entre elle c'était évidemment de savoir si Paul Seixas, étonnant depuis le début du printemps ferait le poids face aux cadors. Although the cobbles may be behind us, we still have the Ardennes to look forward to over the next week! Who better to wrap up the cobbles and preview the Ardennes with than my old mates Luke Durbridge and Tom Southam right here on this month's Race Communiqué.   We kick this month's episode off by rounding up the Spring so far; from Pogačar's dominance at Flanders right through to Van Aert's redemption at Paris Roubaix, there's been heaps of racing to get stuck into. One race I didn't manage to follow too closely was the Tour of the Basque Country, where young Paul Seixas absolutely dominated from start to finish. Fortunately, Southam was there on the ground in the EF team car, so he gives us the scoop from Spain, and just how good Seixas really is.    The Ardennes classics have already kicked off, with Remco Evenepoel dusting Skjelmose in the sprint to win the Amstel Gold Race. Southam was in the convoy dealing with a unique….pretty gross situation that he's never come across in his career. Safe to say Remco's shape is ominous ahead of Liège - the 4th monument of the year - which is only a few days away. With Pog, Remco, and Seixas all on the start list it looks like we're in for an epic showdown. We go through the course and pick our favourites.   Durbo's just got back after a few days off the bike following Paris Roubaix, and that's what this month's PeloChat is all about; keeping mentally fresh and taking time away from cycling. As you all know by now, Luke's just announced that he's hanging up the wheels after national champs in January 2027. He's riding out a long, distinguished career of 15 years - so this advice is worth listening to.   Talking Tactics is all about that head to head to head we're getting hyped about at Liège-Bastogne-Liège; how do Remco and Seixas overthrow Pogi who, on paper, is probably the favourite. Déjà parce que le plateau sera beaucoup plus relevé, avec le roi en la matière, Tadej Pogacar, triple vainqueur de l'épreuve et tenant du titre. Et Remco Evenepoel, double vainqueur de la Doyenne, qui aura à coeur de montrer qu'il est encore bien devant notre Français. Ensuite, parce qu'on ne sait pas ce que le jeune lyonnais vaut sur une course si longue, de 259,5km.   Une course qui promet d'être riche en rebondissements.
