In this episode Nicnac talks of a frantic string of continuous P3D flights mostly over The Pacific between California and Australia and ending in Toyko before they finely took a full-fledged 24-hour rest. They note their attempts to comply with FAA rest regs even in the sim because fatigue is just as much of a factor in the sim as it is in real life (though real-life consequences are more real). Nicnac states their support for carrying more than 2 crew members on any flight longer than 4 hours. Nicnac talks about sim flight tracking software and hopes that Mr. Davies may be able to find a way to hand off projectFly and allow users to export without contacting support. Nicnac has been using Voltanta backed by Orbx since December 2020 and is looking forward to premium. They review their virtual flying skill limits and the limits that consumer flight sim technology and flight planning software place on their virtual flying style. They reassert their belief that X-Plane 11 and P3D currently stand as the most authentic simulators on the market from a General Aviation IFR and airliner perspective. Although, they continue to hope that MSFS will get better with time. They are also holding out hope that version 12 of X-Plane will be announced soon and include an ortho system similar to MSFS. Nicnac recognizes that there are many types of flight sim users out there and emotions can run high. They are working on being less harsh on those that have all their eggs in the MSFS basket when they can. They understand this mentality, although they don't share it. Nicnac ends by thanking all flight sim developers who are passionate along with their fellow AVGeeks and the real-world aviation community for trying to put up with AVGeeks when possible. They talk about each leg, Monterey to San Carlos, San Carlos to Grand Junction, Grand Junction to Boulder, Boulder to Ainsworth, and Ainsworth to Mankato. They talk about why they are setting aside MSFS again and sticking with XPlane for GA and P3D for Airliners. Although they do note some progress on the part of Working Title and PMS. They plan to continue checking in on the platform periodically. Although they are putting their North Atlantic trip on indefinite hiatus (the legs are too long in The SR22), they are really enjoying increasing their continuous US skills along with playing with XPlane ortho scenery and learning the best paths through the many US mountain ranges. They hope to work back up to VATSIM or POSCON and be skilled enough in The SR22 to try flying into Oshkosh for Simventure 21. On this Long Final episode, we get to do some hangar flying - as we help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Limerick Flying Club based in Coonagh.Joining me by Zoom® Chairman of the Club Harry McNamara, Founding Member Foncy Hobbins, current CFI David Fielding and former CFI and Founder Member Brendan Beegan.Towards the end of the sixties, there was an interest in developing a social side to the business operation at Coonagh - this social club was called the Limerick Flying Club. After Shannon Flying services moved to Oranmore in Co, Galway and eventually became Aer Arran, the group of enthusiasts at Coonagh were without an aircraft or an Instructor. In 1970 they decided to formalise the club and arrange membership. Foncy Hobbins, Brendan Beegan and Bryan Carpenter became the initial committee of Limerick Flying Club with Bryan as President.EI-AOO arrived at Coonagh on the 6th of February 1971 from Iona piloted by Pierce Cahill. By the end of the Summer of 1971, the club had a membership of approximately thirty members, and Arthur Brennan had become the Chief Flying Instructor, and by the end of the year, Colum Johnston had joined as an Instructor. This podcasts name-checks many names associated with Flying in Ireland over the last 50 years. http://www.limerickflyingclub.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week, Marc and Al had some special guests that made their way to the SimpleFlight studio at KPWK.  Gavin Black, Andrew Haefner, Pierce Lane, and Bill Engelking flew from their respective home bases in Knoxville and Duluth for the show. That, in and of itself, epitomizes what flying clubs are all about.  It's all about adding a social aspect to our flying and infusing some energy into the aviation experience. What's different about their flying club, is that they are part of the Cirrus Employees Flying Club.  While they enjoy unique benefits associated with a club sponsored by an aircraft manufacturer, the value they receive is in many respects, common across all flying clubs.  It's an interesting mix of differences and commonalities.  We're interested in your thoughts on the value of flying clubs.  Join in the conversation on facebook. @simpleflightradio                                   *   *   * Congratulations to our Avgeek of the Week!  @stephenrunkel @stephenrunkel correctly answered our Instagram post asking for the requirements associated with oxygen usage in the cockpit of our general aviation planes.  Stephen knew that FAR 91.211 requires the PIC to use oxygen after 30 minutes at 12,500 feet, use it continuously at 14,000 feet, and offer it to passengers at 15,000 feet.  Not regulatory, but it's also recommended that oxygen is used at 5,000 feet for night operations.  This is due to the improvement in night vision when oxygen is used.
