In Stavenhagen kommt niemand an Fritz Reuter vorbei.

We dug into Jared Goff's new contract with the Lions and why it had to be done, despite the massive numbers. Then Harry Gagnon joined us for PGA Championship best bets and more, before we discussed MSU football's season-win over-under. In May of 2021, Jim was joined by Cody Stavenhagen, Detriot Tigers beat writer for The Athletic, to breakdown the hall of fame candidacy of former Detroit Tigers second baseman Lou Whitaker. As Lou celebrated his 67th birthday yesterday, a rerelease of that episode, along with some new commentary from Jim at the top, was warranted. For the Lou Whitaker 2.0 episode, Jim looks more closely at the 20 second baseman in the HOF today and how Whitaker compares. Then, Jim and John discuss hard it is to talk about Whitaker without bringing up his double-play partner Alan Trammell, who recently was voted into Cooperstown in 2018 (17:52). Next, they talk about the 1984 World Series, similarities between Whitaker and current HOF candidate Scott Rolen, and Whitaker's eye-popping WAR (22:10). Finally, they discuss why Whitaker only won three gold gloves despite being one of the better defensive second basemen in history and how that impacts his candidacy (44:49), before coming to a conclusion on whether or not Whitaker deserves a plaque in Cooperstown (51:19)

Listen in as I talk to Leah Stavenhagen, 28, about her ALS journey and the "In Her ALS Shoes" movement she created. "I was an active 26-year-old so why did I feel like my feet couldn’t quite keep up? She couldn’t find my knee-jerk reflex and suggested that I visit a neurologist. Naively, I didn’t understand why I was being referred to a neurologist over a podiatrist. This quickly changed. I learned that I had ALS and a 2-5 year life expectancy." That is from my guest, Leah. In this episode, hear Leah share what it was like learning she had ALS, how it changed her perspective on life and how she's empowering other young women. Leah is leading a movement called "In Her ALS Shoes" where women who were diagnosed with ALS under the age of 35 are teaming up to support each other and to raise awareness that ALS can affect anyone. Please consider supporting this movement by sharing this episode. If you were diagnosed under the age of 35, share your story https://iamals.org/action/in-her-als-shoes/ here. Detailing your ALS story will help other young women feel connected, relatable and less lonely. Thank you for listening and sharing with a friend. What a memorable Opening Day for many reasons, but I don't think I've ever seen a SNOW game. Detroit Tigers beat writer for The Athletic, Cody Stavenhagen joins the show to talk all about it. And of course, leave it to Miggy to hit the first home run of the 2021 season in the snow and end up sliding at second base. Another storyline in Detroit, is AJ Hinch gets his first win as a manager following the Astros scandal, but how is Detroit reacting to Hinch? Also talking about some Top Prospects for the Tigers. Two of them are already in the starting rotation to start the year, when could we expect the third in Matt Manning, or will someone else on the offensive side make a splash first. A lot of uncertainty but the one thing that is certain, the Tigers rebuild is nearing its end, and the city of Detroit has a lot to be excited about. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/passionforthepastime/support
With spring camp underway and Mr. Stavenhagen, the Tigers reporter for The Athletic Detroit, days away from a flight to lovely Lakeland Florida to cover them, he joins us for a preseason conversation about the 2021 Detroit Tigers. This is a pretty wide-ranging, state-of-the-organization conversation, but we start off discussing some of the interesting small scale additions like Nomar Mazara and Julio Teheran while also lamenting the lack of any major moves this offseason. The 2021 Tigers do feel different as AJ Hinch and his coaching staff make their presence felt, and Cody talks about the contrasts with Ron Gardenhire's staff, but we appear set for another year in a holding pattern hoping for a lot of player development. We talk through the pitching staff and what constitutes progress in another season where the team is largely treading water. The need for the young pitching prospects to start establishing themselves is very clear as well. Finally, we consider the farm system and the meager depth in mid-tier prospects, particularly on the pitching side, that informed the Tigers collection of veterans they'll invite to camp on minor league deals. Finally we discuss a few key players and our hopes for a farm system that needs to show major improvement in 2021. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What wizardry was this? Certain that the White Sox would hire the former Astros skipper, we didn't really allow ourselves to hope this would happen. Now, as we record on the evening of Thursday, October 29th, A.J. Hinch appears to be a lock to become the 49th manager in Detroit Tigers franchise history. For this episode we're fortunate to be joined the Tigers beat writer for the Athletic Detroit, Cody Stavenhagen. He'll provide his own inside insight into how this decision came to pass. -White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf goes old-school, does it his way. -A.J. Hinch is coming to Detroit (we're 99 percent sure). -We'll explore how Hinch can overcome his damaged reputation, and why he feels like such a perfect, and necessary, fit for the Tigers. -We'll preview what promises to be a slow moving offseason market. -Finally we'll talk a bit of instructional league ball and Tigers farm system and player development staff. J., Muehlberger, E., van Die, I., Kwan, J., Tantisira, K., Emili, A., Cummings, R. D. Abstract: The spike (S) glycoprotein in the envelope of SARS-CoV-2 is densely glycosylated but the functions of its glycosylation are unknown. Here we demonstrate that S is recognized in a glycan-dependent manner by multiple innate immune receptors including the mannose receptor MR/CD206, DC-SIGN/CD209, L-SIGN/CD209L, and MGL/CLEC10A/CD301. Single-cell RNA sequencing analyses indicate that such receptors are highly expressed in innate immune cells in tissues susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Binding of the above receptors to S is characterized by affinities in the picomolar range and consistent with S glycosylation analysis demonstrating a variety of N- and O-glycans as receptor ligands. These results indicate multiple routes for SARS-CoV-2 to interact with human cells and suggest alternative strategies for therapeutic intervention. Copy rights belong to original authors. Welcome back! It's been tough finding topics to talk about that aren't completely up in the air along with the rest of the game right now. So, to alleviate the issue, we've got a pair of special guests on tap for this one. We recorded on Sunday night, before the full release of MLB's new tentative plans for a partial season based in Arizona on Monday the sixth of April, but as it turns out we anticipated a lot of the potential issues in advance. Cody Stavenhagen, Tigers beat writer for the Athletic Detroit joins us on the podcast to talk about his impressions of spring training and hopes for the season prior to the COVID-19 delay. We're also joined by friend of the pod Mark Gorosh, host of the Don't Call it a Rebuild, It's a Team Build podcast (we need to shorten this moniker btw) over on the Tigers Minor League Report network of pods. Discussion started with MLB's contingency plans for a partial season and the problems and possible opportunities at hand as a result. We looked into the potential impact of the Tigers revamped player development department, though it's still going to be some time until their impact, for good or ill, becomes tangible. Stavenhagen also gives us his impressions of Casey Mize and some of the other standouts he observed down in Lakeland a few weeks ago, though it now feels like it's been months since we saw any action. Finally, the last half hour or so is largely a quick discussion of some of the music, books, movies, and tv shows getting us through the lockdown. Learn more about your ad choices.
Freeing Latin America from Erroneous Theses Issue #: 219 | Volume #: 45 | Number #: 2 Date: March 2018 Interviewer: Alexander Scott Interviewees: Jan Rus, Arturo Alvarado, and Serena Chew Plascencia Short Description: More than a half century after the publication of Rodolfo Stavenhagen’s landmark essay “7 Erroneous Thesis about Latin America”, its critique of dominant development thinking remains sharp, as was shown at a colloquium hosted by El Colegio de México 50 years to the day after the publication of the original text. The debate at the colloquium opened a new opportunity to rethink and place Stavenhagen’s theories in today’s context. In this latest issue of LAP, we are glad to bring together some of the essays written by participants in this vibrant debate. The essays analyze the relevance of Stavenhagen’s critique as well as the changes the continent has gone through and the new challenges it faces in today’s rapidly changing global order. In this manner, we hope to honor and celebrate Stavenhagen’s legacy as one of the great Latin American scholars of the long twentieth century, and to provoke further debate that shines light on the continent of the open veins.
On the episode, Phillip and Joel have two fantastic interviews. The first with Taylor Lynch, former Oklahoma State softball player. She comes on to talk about her career, the experience of the WCWS, and the trajectory of the softball program moving forward. After that, Phillip interviews Oklahoma State alum Cody Stavenhagen, They talk about his time in Stillwater, covering the Oklahoma Sooners (!!), and much more. Learn more about your ad choices.
