How deep does the Space Marine faction go in 11th edition? Michael Hamilton is here to take us through his top-place finish with janky take-and-hold Ultramarines!
In ep 182 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Charlie Keeffe joins Sam and Mark to talk about maintaining a sense of engagement without going too flat in an audiobook... finding the line of entertaining - but not too entertaining! We explore how to fit into a younger mindset, and how to differentiate between a CBBC audience and a CBeebies audience. We look at working a little harder when the script is dry, and how to create a cliffhanger without over-emphasising it. Our fun facts are about sports and fingers and our wildcards embrace scarecrows, politicians and superfans! Our VO question this week is all about how new voice actors make the mindset shift to promoting themselves.Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1To transform his invention into a commercial enterprise, Gutenberg needed something every great innovator eventually requires: money. He turned to a wealthy local financier Johann Fust, borrowing heavily to fund the production of his printing press and expand operations. By 1455, Gutenberg's press had already produced a series of printed documents and, most remarkably, a magnificent Latin Bible—an achievement that would forever change the spread of knowledge. But just as Gutenberg stood on the brink of success, disaster struck.Script 2By the time he got to his desk the following morning, Stirling's abdomen still felt like he'd done a hundred crunches, and he groaned at the pain as he sat down. He didn't intend to get up soon and feel that again. He spent half an hour going through the paperwork in his desk, signing off on things and putting papers in their proper piles for filing. Each time he bent his stomach even a little, it reminded him of the cramped muscles there. He picked up the phone and started looking through his notebook for his doctor's number. Perhaps the time had come to cave in on this one. We'd love your feedback - and if you listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, hit the follow button today!**Listen to all of our podcasts here - you can also watch on YouTube, or say to your smart speaker "Play How Do You Say That?!"About our guest: Charlie Keeffe is a UK based Voice Actor who lives on the south coast. In ep 181 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Karim Kronfli joins Sam and Mark to talk about getting to grips with a summer advertorial that's full of alliteration, with no time constraint. We have to be playful without going over the top. It's all about a script being "knowing" and as a voice actor having to give a nod and a wink to your audience. We also have an amazing dramatic piece between a man who's been in jail and his estranged daughter. Our fun facts are about reality TV, big West End shows and a tease of an NDA!Our VO question this week is all about what aspects of performance you take from stage work to the mic.Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1And right now, as the world slows for the summer and the sun sets a little later… there's no better time to slip away with a story of secrets, lies and that final, fatal twist. Our Holiday Crime Collection brings together 100 years of murderous mischief — from breezy beachside killings to snowbound scandals in country hotels.Whether you prefer your detectives with deerstalkers or dark pasts, there's something in our summer stack to keep your suitcase suspiciously heavy.Script 2We are responsible for our own actions. No one else.Like the no one else sitting across from me who got themselves thrown out on the street. Or the no one else took a dead-end job at a petrol station instead of going to vocational school and learning something useful. It is time! The massive FAQ and Errata for Warhammer: The Old World has finally dropped. Your Tuesday has been completely blown up, and so has ours. We are diving deep into the changes for the Core Rules, Forces of Fantasy, and Ravening Hordes to see exactly what Games Workshop has cooked up for us. *This was a live read and after recording it's come to light that there are few FAQs that, as is tradition, will require further FAQs. These include but aren't limited to: How Regeneration is supposed to work (arguably not how Val describes it), how to Wheel (as written in the FAQ the further you wheel around in one go the less you actually move), and how Cannons interact with Monstrous Creatures and Behemoths (currently the cannon ball automatically stops when Crunch happens, so that means you'd automatically hit a monstrous creature or behemoth on anything but a misfire simply by targeting their base). There are probably others, this game can be complex down in the weeds (for the writers and players alike). We'll be back in another episode to go over the top FAQ about the FAQ.* CHAPTERS 0:00 - Intro: The Massive FAQ is Here! 2:17 - TL;DR: The Biggest Changes (Deathstars, Skirmishers & Regen) 13:25 - Match Play Guide: 50% Unit Cap 15:31 - Core Rules FAQ: Saves, Skirmisher LOS & Beam Spells 20:12 - Core Rules FAQ: Wizards, Wheels & Redressing Ranks 25:34 - Core Rules FAQ: Stand & Shoot + Press of Battle Step-Ups! 30:44 - The Low Linear Obstacle Fix 35:00 - Challenges, Ambushes & Evasive Fleeing 40:16 - Move Through Cover (It's a huge buff!) 41:22 - The Regeneration Saves Deep Dive 45:51 - Skirmisher Arcs, Characters in Ranks & Shooting Characters 50:39 - Cannons vs Hills: How Strike Points Work 1:01:25 - Forces of Fantasy Errata: Poor Dwarfs 1:05:48 - Dispersed Formation (90-Degree Arc for Flyers) 1:06:56 - Empire Errata: Furious Charge & Point Changes 1:13:04 - Bretonnia, Wood Elves & High Elves Errata 1:21:29 - Forces of Fantasy FAQs: Nuln Outriders Nerfed & Orion Buffed 1:31:34 - Ravening Hordes Errata: Orcs & Goblins (Targetable Fanatics!) 1:34:42 - Giants to T7 & Warriors of Chaos Updates 1:40:36 - Beastmen Brayherds: Viletide Nerfed & Dragon Ogre Caps 1:42:51 - Tomb Kings & Arcane Journal FAQs 1:49:48 - Grand Cathay & Final Thoughts: Is the Game Better? This week, two members of the winning team at the 8-player ATC event join us to delve into the brand-new edition with insights and strategy galore!
In ep 180 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Paul Cartwright joins Sam and Mark to talk about trusting your senses as a VA to do the work in a script without actively trying to do the work. We explore a commercial script using Paul's theory of pulling back on the crafting and being less voiceovery and less polished to make a real connection with the audience. As an artist, your body is naturally going to add pitch and depth and resonance and highs and lows... so what Paul shows us is comparable to the difference between stage acting and film acting - and it can be a rough uncomfortable ride.We also look at how to create a story arc for a famous tale re-told, but telling it in an authentic way, and our wildcards include Jack's giant, an old lady and a nervous best man delivering a speech.Get involved! This week Art of War founder and absolute treasure Nick Nanavati joins us to bridge the gap in events as we head into the brand new edition of the game. Nick tells us a bit about his journey, what he has been up to since giving the reigns to Adam and we unpack a heap of 11th edition learnings in Part 2!
In ep 179 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, transfemme voice actor SJ Harris joins Sam and Mark to talk about how to bring out a character's venom whilst being very insular, and how to communicate directly with a player as a character in a video game. There's a full circle moment where we reflect that paying it back is what we should all do. We learn how to play a hesitant character in an unusual piece of e-learning, and chat about how an ellipsisis... is a very powerful piece of punctuation! Our VO question this week is all about following your dreams!Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1A lot of my issues come with like decision making, but also memory and memory loss you know. I get this kind of brain fog. I can't think of the right thing or say the right word… it's slightly fuzzy a lot of the time. And I have to kind of have it explained, have to things explained in like two or three ways to then fully kind of understand it… yeah.Sometimes, my thoughts move so quickly that I can't like put together sentences or I…I don't know, I think I just - I struggle to say things, so I'll let other people sort of answer for me.Script 2How long has it been out there? Centuries? Millennia? I lost count when the silence stopped feeling like punishment… and started feeling like patience. You smell like it, you know. The living world. Warm air, sunlight… hope. I had almost forgotten what those things felt like. One day this door will open the wrong way. And when it does… I will step into the world she calls hers, the world she nurtures, protects, and pretends to love. Think again. In this episode of Adeptus Ridiculous, Bricky, DK, and Kirioth team up to revisit the "You've Been Lied To" series, tackling the chaotic, retcon-heavy history of the Orks. From their earliest space-faring days in Rogue Trader to the modern setting, Games Workshop has fundamentally shifted how these green monsters function—meaning there's a very good chance you've been fed some serious misinformation. We're splitting this episode wide open to compare the hilarious old-school lore with the contemporary reality. Does painting a trukk red actually make it faster? And why—no matter what the internet tells you—an Ork cannot just pick up a stick, say "bang," and use it as a gun.Support the show

This week Jack Harpster and I review the new MFM balancing the launch of 11th edition! We don't do a line by line review of the changes as that would take people like me 19 hours. We instead go through some of the biggest movers and shaker changes and give every faction a score out of 10 for how well they are entering the brand new edition of the game. A 5 is entering just as good as you were in 10th, anything higher is you are better now than you were (with exceptions made for the best armies in the game) and anything less than 5 is you are worse that previously (for now). Hope you enjoy this 2 hour slobber knocker!
This week we end our 10th edition episodes with a bang, having Chris Langton joining us to run us through his undefeated run with Daemonic Incursion Daemons at the Leeds super major!
In ep 178 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Trev Fleming joins Sam and Mark to talk about splitting the difference between dynamic and powerful to create a compelling read and how strict timings can impact a performance. We learn how to teach something whilst being conversational in a long e-learning course... and why being clean with no 'ums' and 'errs' is a presenter trait rather than an actor's one. Did you know other languages have "thinking words" where we just put in an 'umm' or an 'aah'?Our fun facts cover Geography graduates, smashing pedal bikes, and a slicing knife nightmare that might make you feel queasy. Our wildcards are a lizard person from the centre of the earth, an irate football dad on the sidelines, and a dog who gets excited when he hears the word walk! Our VO question this week is all about whether actors get a better reaction from casting directors when they stop trying to appear impressive.Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1Bill Burr, one of the biggest comedians on the planet, has had a podcast for the last 10 years on YouTube. This is his thumbnail. The same one, each and every time. For me, as a big fan, I immediately recognise it when I see it mixed in with other videos on the recommended sidebar. Is this thumbnail good? No, it's actually modest, at best! It does show his face and you can clearly read the text, but that's about it. Still, this style works for him. He doesn't want to hire a person who handles his graphics, he just wants to put his content out there ASAP.Script 2To meet these challenges, we designed precise, dynamic, evolving adaptations.A soundtrack that adjusts in real time to the lights, the pace, and the energy of the arena. This is not just background music. It's a signature.A wave that resonates through the players' entrance show. That elevates the ceremonies. That fuels digital platforms and social media.A sound that amplifies the experience—and the power of the competition. We'd love your feedback - and if you listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, hit the follow button today!**Listen to all of our podcasts here - you can also watch on YouTube, or say to your smart speaker "Play How Do You Say That?!"About our guest: Trev Fleming is an experienced actor and voice actor who's been doing silly voices for over 15 years (well, longer actually but that's how long he's been getting paid for it!). Whether it's TV, Stage, Film, Greenscreen, Prosthetics, Mocap/P-Cap - Trev's your guy. In ep 176 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Matt Coles joins Sam and Mark to talk about how good writing and good direction can get the perfect read whatever kind of voice actor you are. We look at what happens when a script points one way, but then takes a sharp deviation, and how to make a choice in an audiobook script about an accent. Our wildcards include Warldorf and Statler from the Muppets, a giraffe being picky about leaves and a marathon runner exhausted at the end of the race, plus we muse about a good single malt, snotty scrambled eggs, and meeting Patrick Stewart aka Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Our VO question this week is all about how you differentiate between characters in an animation or a game if you're playing three different roles that could sound quite similar!Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1Dogs often dream...In fact, they experience similar stages of dreaming to humans - including rapid eye movement (REM), (the stage of dreaming we tend to remember). Twitches and paw movements are just some of the ways you can spot a dreaming dog. Even more amazing? Harvard experts suggest that your dog is quite likely to be dreaming about… you. Aww.Script 2If he could have assimilated the speaker's words, he might have described the accent that flavoured them as a sort of “jovial cockney.”It was jovial, but it wasn't cockney.“Please forgive my intrusion. One wonders why your blinds are all the way open in a neighbourhood with such abundant foot traffic,” the voice from the window said. “My name is Lonesome Johnny. Indeed, I should have said so at the onset. Only a villain arrives with a purpose and neglects to introduce themselves, and though I am devilishly handsome, I am no villain!”We'd love your feedback - and if you listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, hit the follow button today!**Listen to all of our podcasts here - you can also watch on YouTube, or say to your smart speaker "Play How Do You Say That?!"About our guest: Matt's an award-nominated English voiceover artist with a seriously versatile sound. EPISODE DESCRIPTIONI sat down with Chris Hewish from Xsolla , a company that has been powering the gaming industry for over 20 years , to dig into why Web3 games crashed and burned, what needs to change, and why Web2 games are the real gateway to bringing the next billion users on chain. Chris breaks down the allergy traditional gaming studios have to Web3 language, how Xsolla's web shop product disrupted the 30% Apple and Google tax, and why removing friction , not pushing wallets and blockchain jargon , is the only path to mass adoption. Whether you are a game developer, a Web3 founder, or just someone trying to understand where gaming and blockchain collide, this episode is packed with honest, experience-backed insight from someone who has been in the trenches for decades.
