In this episode we talk about the 1979 comedy-drama Going In Style. George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg play seniors getting bored that decide to rob a bank. This is a warm film that somehow got overlooked. It was remade decades later with Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, and Michael Caine. Enjoy. Thanks for listening!

Going in style 1979 Ug, the remake is streaming, makes no sense why they would remake this, it's pretty perfect as it is. It doesn't need any CGI spaceships, seems such a waste of resources to re-make. Maybe they gutted all the political undertones like in Rollerball. I don't like re-makes in general, but I'll watch it and report back.

We look at the way the old actors are treated with dignity by the film (while still getting to do some very silly comedy), the differences between the two films, and what works about the modern take on a nearly 40 year old film. ↳ Skip to the movie: 12:33
Once more departing from the strict gangster genre this week, we look at another heist/caper film, “Going in Style” (1979). Alex and Jordan delve into why the film works, what perhaps falls flat within the crime narrative, and draws parallels between this film and other, more crime dominated films we've watched for the show. Next week we'll be looking at the 2017 remake. Also, be sure to keep your ears open for a new edition of the Podfather Quiz at the end of the episode! ↳ Skip to the movie:

On this week's episode, the gang brings (Some of) The Worst of 2017 month to a close with a conversation around Zach Braff's Going in Style! Why do these old fellas insist on debasing themselves with these trash films? And how long can the gang go without falling into the dreaded Arkin/Alda trap? PLUS: Coming this fall from WHM Entertainment, Alan Alda, Alan Arkin, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and a shit ton of other elderly character actors come together for the Expendables of geriatric comedies... Funny Funeral! Going in Style stars Alan Arkin, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Ann-Margaret, John Ortiz, Josh Pais, Matt Dillon, Joey King, Peter Serafinowicz, Maria Dizzia, Christopher Lloyd, Kenan Thompson, and Siobhan Fallon Hogan; directed by Zach Braff.
