Marc Connor grew up in Doncaster and describes his upbringing as proudly working class. As a child, he loved architecture and was told he should become an engineer. But alongside that, he had a real passion for music. What Marc didn't know then was that this love of music would not only take him all over the world, doing work he loves, but would also help other people make their dreams come true.Marc is an artist manager and, over the years, has worked with stars including Mark Morrison and Shane MacGowan. He later founded his own company, Rockstar Management. Then one day, someone told him about a musician called Jamie that he simply had to see. That musician was Jamie Cullum — and they're still working together today.Alongside his partner, Jenny, Marc also manages incredible artists including Ferris & Sylvester and Billy Lockett. If, deep down, you believe it's impossible to find work you truly love, Marc has some wonderful advice. He's down-to-earth, humble and incredibly generous with his wisdom.Marc genuinely believes we can all discover what lights us up — and in this conversation, he shares how.To learm more about Marc you can find his wonderful work and artists here: https://www.rockstar.management/aboutTo download your FREE copy of my novella Could We Just Do That Again? click here: https://www.elliebarkerwrites.com/And you discover more of my novels all about second chances, life lessons and lots of behind the scenes in TV click here: https://www.elliebarkerwrites.com/ Hosted on Acast. If you're lining up for Record Store Day 2026, this episode focuses on the one name that matters most: Zev Feldman, known as The Jazz Detective. Best known for his first-release live recordings of Bill Evans on Resonance and Elemental, Feldman has already delivered 14 Evans RSD titles, with a 15th arriving April 18.For Record Store Day 2026, he goes further than ever with 11 new jazz releases (including the Evans) across Resonance, Elemental, and Time Traveler Recordings, the label he co founded to bring back rare and hard to find 1970s jazz albums from the Muse catalog. This is not filler for collectors. It is a serious expansion of what Record Store Day can deliver.Join Eric Pye and Mitch Anderson as they break down the full slate, the continued demand for the Bill Evans RSD series, and the reality of tracking down and restoring lost recordings. At Anti Social Camp in November 2025, we recorded two special live conversations with music greats Jamie Cullum and Billy Bragg. It's a rare chance to hear a pair of brilliant and very different songwriters reflect on their craft in front of an audience of songwriters and musicians. Jamie talks about working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the creative discipline of working to a brief, and how collaboration can unlock ideas you would never find alone. Billy shares his belief in songwriting as a way of building connection and empathy, drawing on a career shaped by honesty, community, and lived experience. Together, these conversations offer a warm, generous look at how songs are made, why voice matters, and how music continues to bring people together.
Join us for a conversation with Dr Polly Paulusma to hear how her experience as a singer led her to uncover Angela Carter's deep love of and connection with folk song, one that infuses Carter's writing. Discover also how this influences Polly's own creative practice, which moves freely between word and song, and embodies Carter's “magpie” approach. Listen as Polly tells us how folk song engages with freedom, allowing individuals to take on the personas and experiences of others by adapting stories and lyrics, making them their own, and offering ways of imagining different ways of being and acting. If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and share Sounding Freedom and Liberation with your community. Biography Polly is both a musician and a scholar. She has been a signed recording artist since 2003. Her albums have achieved international critical acclaim and she has toured the USA, the UK and Europe supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay and Marianne Faithfull. She continues to record and release records with One Little Independent. Her latest album is called Wildfires. Alongside her music, Polly completed a doctorate at the University of East Anglia and her book, Angela Carter and Folk Music: ‘Invisible Music', Prose and the Art of Canorography, was published in 2023 by Bloomsbury. Between writing, recording and touring Paulusma teaches songwriting and poetry for Cambridge University and songwriting for the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, where she is Associate Professor of Song and Literature. She is a Bye-Fellow of Murray Edwards College.

RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for the next of his regular audio described theatre reviews for 2025. This week we have a reimagining of Somerset Maugham's ‘the Constant Wife' at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon with description by Professional Audio Describers Julia Grundy and Carolyn Smith. About ‘The Constant Wife' ‘I can't help it if you were careless with your cigarette case. I was extremely careful with your heart' Constance has everything. A loving family, a beautiful home, a fulfilling career, and a husband as devoted to her as he is to his mistress. When her perfect set up is threatened, Constance fights back but refuses to play by the rules. Can she withstand society's expectations? And can society withstand the force of a woman determined to do things her own way? RSC Co-Artistic Director Tamara Harvey (Pericles) and playwright Laura Wade (Posh, Rivals) reunite after their Olivier Award-winning collaboration, Home, I'm Darling, to reimagine Somerset Maugham's subversive comedy, The Constant Wife, in a sparkling new version featuring original music by multi award-winning jazz artist Jamie Cullum. We had the pleasure of interviewing Hudson Thames over Zoom video!Prolific songwriter, performer, and actor Hudson Thames has shared his soul-soothing debut album BAMBINO, available to stream now on all DSPs worldwide via Loaded Dice Entertainment. The album is laced with moody pop anthems, deeply emotional ballads, and genuinely timeless songwriting, paying homage to icons like Elton John, Billy Joel, and Paul McCartney. It features standout tracks “Wrong,” “Cold Summer,” “Weight” (feat. Kelsey Karter) and “Man of the World,” which features Jamie Cullum and was produced by Stephan Moccio (The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus). “BAMBINO is an Italian term of endearment that means ‘Baby' or ‘Little One.' My dad remarried when I was twelve to a big Sicilian clan and my family grew by about a thousand people overnight,” says Thames. “As I floated through family functions and dinner parties, the term Bambino was assigned to me and I always felt that it was really sweet. This album is so coming of age for me. It's been whittled down over the last two years to highlight the most important moments of growth and learning during the most challenging but important time in my life. As I figure out my place in the world as a man, it feels like the right time to relinquish the title of ‘Bambino' and give it MY baby; This body of work.”A product of a honkey-tonk piano player father, Rat Pack Vegas performers, and a crew of skate rats from The San Fernando Valley, Hudson's pop sensibility has old school roots. Hudson first saw radio success with his first single, “How I Want Ya” feat. Hailee Steinfeld, and “Drive it Like You Stole it,” which led to performances on The Today Show, The Radio Disney Music Awards, as well as dozens of featured TV and film placements. When Hudson isn't busy playing music, he can be found sharing his talents on-screen. Bursting onto the stage at only 13 years old, Hudson's acting career began with roles in Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Browns' 13 the Musical alongside Ariana Grande, Distracted with Rita Wilson, and Falsetto's with Jason Alexander. He also has landed roles on acclaimed shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Mad Men, to name a few. Currently, Thames is starring in Disney+'s new animated Spider-Man series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, as Peter Parker's voice. We want to hear from you! A new report out today from the CQC - the Care Quality Commission - says that almost two thirds of maternity units provide dangerously substandard care that puts women and babies at risk. It has rated 65% of maternity services in England as either "inadequate" or "requires improvement", an increase from 54% last year. And yesterday saw the first debate in Parliament about birth trauma and the injuries suffered by some women in labour. The Conservative MP Theo Clarke has campaigned for better support for mothers following her own traumatic experience after giving birth to her daughter in August 2022. She gave her powerful testimony to Parliament in an effort to get birth trauma added to the women's health strategy and improve perinatal care for women. First we hear from Chief Executive of the CQC, Ian Trenholm, and then consultant obstetrician Dr Daghni Rajasingham. After Ruhama Wolle took on the bridesmaid mantle three times in the space of 18 months, she decided to never say yes to the role, ever again. She penned an open letter resigning from all future bridesmaid requests, addressed to all her family and friends in Glamour Magazine US, where she works as Special Projects Editor. She joins Anita Rani to talk about why she's opted out of the type of friendship being a bridesmaid requires. A prize-winning poet and currently Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Arizona State University, Safiya Sinclair, has now written a stunning memoir, How to Say Babylon. It looks at her childhood and teenage years growing up in an ultra-strict Rastifari family in Jamaica, and how literature and poetry changed the trajectory of her life. The soul/jazz singer Mica Millar has amassed almost five million streams on Spotify, and her debut album has been championed by the likes of Trevor Nelson and Jamie Cullum. This summer she's had sold out shows, festival appearances at Love Supreme and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, plus opening slots for Gregory Porter and Lionel Ritchie. Mica is to perform at the Union Chapel as part of London Jazz Festival's opening weekend in November. She discusses recording her new album, Heaven Knows, during lockdown, while recovering from an accident. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Kirsty Starkey
