On this episode of Great Practice, Great Life®, Steve Riley sits down with family law attorney Gerard Virga to share a remarkable story of resilience, leadership, and reinvention. When Hurricane Michael destroyed Gerard's law office in 2018, he didn't pause or panic. Instead, the very next day, he started looking for a new space to work. Remarkably, that same day, he found a building still standing—and a landlord outside, willing to help. Gerard was offered a spot on the fifth floor, fully furnished and ready to go. As a result, just a few weeks later, in the middle of widespread devastation, his firm experienced one of its busiest Novembers ever. Families were struggling through custody issues, living in trailers, surrounded by debris, and trying to survive. Gerard knew he had to show up—for his clients, his team, and his family. That moment shifted everything. The crisis changed how Gerard viewed leadership and client service. He became more empathetic, more present, and more open. Because of this, he saw how important it was to lead with compassion and to run a firm that could adapt quickly. So, he started modernizing his systems. Eventually, he moved operations onto servers and into the cloud, stepping away from paper files entirely. Meanwhile, his sense of purpose extended beyond the office. After seeing firsthand how hard the storm had hit local families, Gerard's wife, Mary, suggested they give back. Together, they created Operation Santa—a holiday initiative to bring joy to families who had lost everything. That experience became a turning point. More than anything, it reminded Gerard why this work matters. Now, as the legal landscape continues to evolve, Gerard is once again rebuilding. This time, he's leaning into AI, not to replace attorneys, but to support them. His goal is to free up his lawyers so they can focus on what only humans can do: connect, advise, and advocate. AI can handle repetitive tasks. In turn, attorneys can spend more time building relationships and preparing for trial. Gerard sees that as the future of law, a people-centered profession powered by smart systems. Ultimately, he credits his resilience to the people who count on him: his wife, his kids, and his team. He believes true leadership means being willing to change for the better, especially when others are depending on you. This episode is for anyone who's been knocked down and is ready to rebuild—smarter, stronger, and with purpose. In this episode, you will hear: Rebuilding a law firm after Hurricane Michael with resilience and strategic innovation Importance of understanding your “why” in building a meaningful legal practice Embracing AI technology to modernize client communication and enhance firm operations “Operation Santa” initiative led by Gerard Virga's wife to support hurricane-affected families Challenges of managing a law firm with a hybrid model and remote workforce The evolving role of AI in legal practice, focusing on enhancing human interactions rather than replacing them Personal connections and integrity in navigating family law and building client trust Stay Connected & Show Your Support: Never miss an episode—subscribe to Great Practice, Great Life! ⭐Like what you hear? The AI revolution isn't just another technological shift—it's a fundamental disruption that will permanently alter the relationship between capital and labor. In this episode, Hans and Brian explore how artificial intelligence is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, threatening traditional employment while creating massive opportunities for those who are prepared.Drawing insights from Jordi Visser's analysis on AI's impact on Wall Street, they examine why this disruption is different from past innovations. Unlike previous technological advances that created new job categories, AI has the potential to replace both mental and physical labor at a speed that far exceeds society's ability to adapt. The discussion emphasizes why building a strong capital base through strategies like Infinite Banking Concepts (IBC) may be more crucial than ever. Rather than trying to predict exactly how AI will unfold, Hans and Brian advocate for creating flexible financial strategies that can thrive regardless of the specific outcomes.Capital Compounds, Labor Waits: The fundamental shift happening now is that AI enables capital to grow exponentially while labor becomes increasingly replaceable. Companies can dramatically reduce their workforce while simultaneously increasing productivity and profits, creating an unprecedented divergence between capital owners and workers. The Speed of Disruption: What once took decades of technological adoption now happens in quarters. The pace of AI advancement means traditional economic models and Fed policies may be inadequate for managing a world where markets boom while unemployment rises simultaneously.Building Financial Resilience: Rather than trying to predict exactly how AI will unfold, the focus should be on creating flexible financial strategies that can thrive regardless of the specific outcomes. Having accessible capital and ownership positions becomes critical for capturing opportunities in this rapidly changing landscape.Embracing AI as a Tool: Instead of resisting technological change, individuals and businesses should actively learn to leverage AI for productivity gains. Those who adapt early will have significant advantages over those who try to avoid or ignore these tools.➡️Chapters:00:00 - Opening thoughts on AI as unprecedented disruption01:00 - Introduction to the episode and Jordi Visser's insights03:00 - Brian's real estate closing and dry powder strategy04:00 - Comparing AI to previous disruptors (internet, mobile phones)07:00 - Capital compounds, labor waits - the new paradigm09:00 - Which industries and jobs are at risk11:00 - The future of airline pilots and automation13:00 - Logarithmic scale of technological change15:00 - The death of the university system18:00 - Trade jobs and physical labor considerations19:00 - Building capital for the next generation21:00 - Social unrest and economic disparity risks24:00 - Christian perspective on fear and preparation25:00 - Federal Reserve challenges with AI disruption27:00 - IBC as resilient foundational strategy29:00 - The three-body problem analogy for unpredictability31:00 - Personal AI experiences and practical applications34:00 - Don't become a "boomer with a phone"36:00 - Meta and Tesla's AI investments39:00 - The importance of staying current with AI41:00 - July 4th plans and closing thoughtsGot Questions? Technology is no longer just a helpful tool for running small businesses. It has become the lifeline for small business success. In this episode, Eric clarifies why technology is now non-negotiable when running a successful small business. Tune in to learn why, as a small business owner, you must either evolve and adapt or risk getting left behind. AI Blackmail An article on Entropic described a test scenario where AI named specific (fictional) people and made a blackmail demand. Even though the situation was fabricated for testing purposes, it highlighted the potential dangers of advanced AI behavior. A Double-Edged Sword Every major invention in history has had the potential for great harm and tremendous benefit. The outcome depends entirely on how humans choose to use these tools. AI is no exception. It represents a societal shift similar to the Industrial Revolution, with its presence growing across all industries. Today, adaptation is essential, especially in the meetings and events space, where technology is now deeply integrated. Those who ignore it risk becoming irrelevant. From Fax Machines to Automation During his early business days in Brussels, Eric used to manually collect faxed proposals in the evenings after doing sales visits by day. Now, 70% of that work can be automated. Standard proposals and client-facing documents can now be systematized using technology, drastically reducing the time and effort required. People vs. Tech In the past, hiring a high-level executive assistant in Belgium came at a significant cost to Eric due to their high social security contributions. Today, however, business owners can find skilled virtual assistants anywhere in the world for a fraction of the cost. Smarter Prospecting with AI Aspects of prospecting that used to take hours of manual outreach before can now be streamlined with CRM systems and AI. By scanning the online presence of a prospect through their LinkedIn profile, AI can recommend tailored messaging and communication strategies, making outreach faster, more personal, and far more effective. Embrace AI Now Now is the time to embrace AI and new technologies. Those who do so will be better positioned for success. So, whether you are starting a new business or evolving an existing one, tech literacy is a must. Face-to-Face Is Still Irreplaceable Even with the rise of AI, the human connection is likely to become more valuable, not less, as people always crave genuine, in-person experiences. Automation and Personalization Synergy: Combining AI with CRM systems ensures personalized, consistent follow-ups, hitting the sweet spot of automation and human touch. Unparalleled Competitive Edge: Embracing Generative AI technology in a dealership's arsenal is pivotal in creating an unfair competitive advantage, significantly increasing customer engagement and sales volumes. The automotive industry isn't just turning a corner with technological innovations; it's racing down a highway of revolutionary change. At the forefront of this transformation is Generative AI, a breakthrough poised to redefine how dealerships engage with customers. As highlighted in the lively discussion from the Millionaire Car Salesman podcast, Ted Horton of GAN AI and Sean V. Bradley unveil the profound impact of AI-driven video content on dealership operations, painting a future where AI doesn't replace human effort— it amplifies it. In this comprehensive exploration, we dive deep into how Generative AI is reshaping the automotive sales landscape, emphasizing its strategic integration for maximized value and efficiency. Generative AI: Reimagining Customer Engagement In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, video content is no longer an option but an imperative. "The ability to record these avatars and have them automatically generated real time within seconds…accelerates deal velocity," Ted Horton emphasizes, illustrating the profound capabilities of Generative AI in dealership processes. By leveraging AI to create personalized, dynamic videos instantaneously, dealerships meet customers' growing expectations for immediacy and personalization, creating stronger connections and more profound engagement. Automated AI videos can now incorporate customer-specific data—like name, vehicle type, and more—into tailored communications. The result is not only an uplift in sales but a seismic shift in how relationships are formed and nurtured digitally. The phrase "Video isn't the future. It's the present" underscores the urgency of adopting such technologies. With statistics showing that video content dramatically increases customer engagement and conversion rates, it's evident that AI's role in crafting these interactions is not just advantageous but essential. CRM and AI: A Harmonious Blend for Success Central to the transformative power of Generative AI is its seamless integration with CRM systems. This synergy ensures consistency and personalization in outreach efforts. Horton notes, "Video AI," when combined with CRM automation, is like having an omnipresent BDC (Business Development Center), eliminating human errors and providing constant, tailored customer interactions. Essentially, AI orchestrates a symphony of data and communication, effectively automating what was once a manual and error-prone process. For dealerships, this harmony transcends traditional sales methodologies. As Bradley states, by "launching automation flows for easy each use case," dealerships not only streamline processes but elevate them—ensuring customers receive relevant, personalized content at every touchpoint. This strategic blueprint for AI integration into CRM systems not only enhances the customer experience but dramatically increases sales performance, offering dealerships a distinct and sustainable competitive edge. The Competitive Power of AI Video in Dealerships The extraordinary potential of Generative AI isn't just in automating video creation—it's in redefining competition within the market. Dealers utilizing AI video capabilities are observing tangible improvements in sales, as evidenced by Longo Toyota's case, which highlighted a substantial increase in sales through personalized video strategies. Bradley reinforces this notion by providing a stark warning: "Every minute, every hour, every day that you waste procrastinating… is dollars lost." By harnessing the power of Generative AI, dealerships position themselves as industry leaders—actively investing in technology that not only facilitates sales but builds robust customer relationships. The lexicon of automotive sales is thus expanded, with AI serving as a tool not of replacement, but of enhancement and opportunity. It's a call to action for dealers to pivot from antiquated methodologies towards a future enriched by AI innovation, which promises not just survival, but dominance in the competitive marketplace. Time waits for no one, as echoed in the poetic recitation towards the end, reminding us of the fleeting nature of opportunity. The automotive industry stands on the precipice of a technological renaissance, with Generative AI as the catalyst speeding this evolution. Embracing AI technologies is no longer optional but essential, enabling dealerships to break free from the constraints of traditional processes and unlock unprecedented potential. Dealerships equipped with AI capabilities aren't just adapting to change—they're defining it. As the industry continues its evolutionary journey, those daring to innovate with Generative AI and video technology will indeed lead the pack.
