Maynooth University project on virtual laboratories for third-level students awarded almost €3 million funding

An innovative project led by Maynooth University that will use virtual laboratories as a teaching tool for the experimental sciences has been awarded almost €3 million funding by the Higher Education Authority (HEA). Led by Prof Denise Rooney, Head of the Department of Chemistry at Maynooth University, the project was awarded a total €2,971,700 under the Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3 programme. The ambitious and timely project will develop an innovative approach to teaching students in the experimental sciences through the use of virtual laboratories. The Maynooth-led initiative brings together five geographically spread Higher Education Institutes: Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT), Dublin City University (DCU), Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and University College Cork with education technology providers, to develop courses in which a virtual laboratory experience is complemented with a real laboratory experience, through a blended approach. The project also will give students the opportunity to experience a real-work environment through virtual training and engagement with enterprise partners, and to help reinforce practical techniques and concepts, as well as management and project work. Prof Denise Rooney said: “By piloting the scheme across the five HEIs, we have the capacity to implement the virtual labs simultaneously in different year groups, different sub-disciplines and using different teaching methodologies. No one institution would have the capacity to carry out this project alone. “In a relatively short period of time, we will develop a road map for rolling out virtual laboratory teaching across the experimental sciences, enabling replication.” The target learners of the initiative are first to fourth year chemistry undergraduates, and taught M.Sc. students in the Chemical Sciences. Such a large scale trial, impacting over 2,500 students conducted through a well-managed collaborative project, will enhance the exchange of best practices and mitigate risks over the course of the project. The biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical and chemical sector plays a massive role in Ireland’s economy, producing 60% worth of Ireland’s exports, directly employing more than 30,000 and supporting a further 30,000 across other industries. The input of industry partners is central to the initiative. These involve education technology providers that develop virtual laboratory simulations for STEM students, and Mindconnex, an Irish SME developing digital learning software, who will give time to provide expertise on how students can best learn in a virtual environment. Industry partners who are employing chemistry graduates will work with the institutes to enhance the students’ experience. Each institute has established enterprise contacts who will contribute to this initiative, including Analog Devices, Alltech, Avectas, Abbott Diagnostics, Hovione and Janssen. Speaking at the announcement of a total 22 projects to be funded under the Human Capital Initiative, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris said: “These projects will develop and change teaching and learning. This global pandemic has reinforced the need for us all to be agile and diverse. “Crucially though it requires us to develop new skills and equip the next generation with the critical importance to the economy and the workplace of the future.” For more information on this and other projects awarded HEA funding under the Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3 programme see HEI website here

Firing All Preachers & Bible Podcasters John 6:45In John 6, there is a great emphasis on reveling to us how busy God has been in helping us. Today we get a spotlight on His activity as TEACHER. In the tennis match of the Old Testament-New Testament Jesus recalls a passage in Isaiah 54 saying God is going to be the primary teacher. That is all well and good. But then, Jesus claims that prophesy for HIMSELF. That is, if you have believed in Jesus, God has been your primary teacher. It is another of the hidden claims to be God of John 6. God loves learning. Learning is a god-ly activity. Learning is a God-ly activity. He HAS been our teacher. He IS our teacher (+ the Holy Spirit for believers) and He will be our teacher.Perhaps more than any result of your learning, even reading or whistling, the ultimate is the coming to Jesus. It is a big, big lesson. Listen and get a taste of it.

Lady V’s Devotional Episode  “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.”  “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”  John 1:1-5, NLT  Devotional  When I was a child the darkness frightened me because I couldn’t see. I stumbled around in the dark as if I were blind. As soon as I’d find the light switch it was like I’d been saved from the creatures that lurked in the darkness.  As I got older, I faced another kind of darkness that a simple light switch couldn’t fix for me. The darkness of evil, which lurked around every corner; racism, injustice, hatred, bondage to sinful ways. This kind of darkness can only be  overcome by ‘The Light’—Jesus.  He is the Light of Love—the Word of God. Jesus is that LIGHT from the beginning. A beginning where everything made was created through Him. Sadly, not everyone has revelation of this yet. That is why those of us that know of Jesus must tell of His great Love and sacrifice for the world.  John the Baptist was born to tell about this Light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John would tell about the LIGHT of the World—the true LIGHT, the long-awaited Savior of the world; the Son of God, the Creator of life and eternity.   He is fully God and fully human. His life is the light to all humanity. His love is greater than anyone could ever put into words. But—I still try. I can describe Jesus as ‘Love’ personified. A love that gave His life for those He loved.Jesus was and is the perfect sacrifice for a sinful world.   The truth is; I could not know how to love without first knowing Jesus who IS love. I didn’t realize how much God loved me until His Word became a part of my living, moving, and being.  Jesus can teach you how to love. You love your neighbor as—yourself! Do you love yourself? If so, then love on others, but if not, get to know Jesus—He’ll help you with that.  In all that Jesus embodies you learn how much God truly loves you. Then you can pass that love onto others.   And let’s face it, the world needs love. That love is God. He is that lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Jesus —the Word.  God’s WORD anchors you to the source of all that is good. I find Jesus when I read the Word of God. He IS the Word made human. His WORD carries power, strength, direction, peace, healing, revelation, grace, and truth.   And you’ll see what you couldn’t see before when stumbling in darkness. For those of us that follow Him, Jesus lights our path as we walk through life and difficult times. He changes one on the inside and begins to rearrange ones’ behaviors and desires. He opens our eyes to righteousness and purifies our hearts.  As a result, motives are now based around following His example by walking in love and the fruit of righteousness. Someone that cares for the lives of others.   Jesus Christ came to save!  There’s no valley too low that He will not come to find the loss. There’s no pit too dark that He can’t deliver you out of.   And if you are wondering , His Word says, if you seek Him you will find Him. There’s no person that seeks after Him that will get rejected. Jesus is waiting, watching, and calling; “Come, follow me.”   There’s forgiveness in His arms…That’s Amazing Grace!  I once was blind, but now I see.  I found Jesus, but really…He had already found me.  I was so deep in a pit of sinful darkness that I didn’t see a way out. But, God had other plans for me. God sent me a Savior.   So, in giving my life to Jesus, He shines so brightly in times of trouble. And when trouble shows up, I remember that I’m not alone. He has promised to deliver me out of my troubles.

Psalm 105:4 4 Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.. 2 Chronicles 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. We are to seek the Lord Yahweh himself. Not for what he can do for us, but for who He IS. And we are to seek his strength, as well. So often we rely on our own strength. My three-year-old granddaughter insists that she wants to "do it myself!" without help or assistance. And that's good, part of growing up. But often, as adults, our pride keeps us from calling on God. Like immature children, we think we know it all. Asking for help would demonstrate that we aren't self-sufficient, and so we refuse to -- that is, until we become humbled enough by circumstances that we are willing to seek Jesus' help when we need it.

After graduating from USC, Russ left behind his wife and 5-week-old son to become a Platoon Leader in Vietnam as an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. His experiences in Vietnam, where he was shot twice and led a platoon of tanks, would forever shape his future. After Vietnam, Russ worked for Ross Perot’s EDS, was the youngest ever VP at Bank of America, was founding President of American Airlines’ Information Technology subsidiary, and has served as CEO of companies in the IT and medical device technologies fields. He has taught leadership development to Generals, Top Gun pilots and in Admirals. Now he serves on boards and presents to CEOs on the concept of quiet confidence. In this interview, we talk about topics such as… • The life-changing lessons Russ learned in the Marines • How Russ went from being in the middle of the Man Box Culture to evolving past it. • Where Russ found his quiet confidence and where you can find yours. • What Russ taught Generals and Admirals about leadership development. • What lessons Russ learned over his 40 years of running companies about how to lead people. • Russ' definition of success and happiness. Estados y capital en la colonización de Patagonia (Argentina y Chile, 1840s-1920s) (Universidad Austral de Chile, 2019) examines the explosion of foreign-owned sheep farming, the fitful expansion of Argentine and Chilean sovereignty, and the violence of primitive accumulation and genocide in southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Soberanías Fronterizas wrestles with the multiple and competing sovereignties articulated during the Age of Empire, Latin America’s export boom, and the dispossession of autonomous indigenous peoples through settler colonialism. It asks how, over the course of less than a century, this vast territory described by Europeans and outsiders as inhospitable, unknowable, and uninhabited, came to be a wildly profitable export enclave. Harambous uncovers how foreign (predominantly British) capital came into possession of millions of hectares of land for sheep raising, effectively establishing sovereign control at the expense of the indigenous inhabitants, Chile, and Argentina. To do this, he reconstructs how foreign investors, merchants, and elites and politicians in Santiago and Buenos Aires built networks of corruption to facilitate land acquisitions, infrastructural improvements, and immigration of labourers. This process, however, was anything but smooth. It came through violence (extermination of Fueginos such as the Selknam, extreme military repression of labour movements, and sheep latifundista resistance to customs). Jesse Zarley is assistant professor of history at Saint Joseph’s College on Long Island, where he teaches Latin American, Caribbean, and Global History. Series: The Jesus Way Title: We Journey Like Jesus John 14:5-15 5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.d From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. 12“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you ask mee anything in my name, I will do it. Who is Jesus? He wasn’t white, he was a brown skinned-middle eastern Jew born to a working class family. He never owned a home. Never got a college degree. But Jesus was God’s level of listening and responding to humanity. Jesus was born in a part of the world that touches Africa, Asia, and Europe. He wasn’t a white man like me. Don’t ever say it’s a white man’s religion. It’s a world’s religion because Jesus belongs to the world! COMPASSION WITHOUT ACTION IS ONLY OBSERVATION God refused to observe, he stepped into our world to take action against sin! 1st Century Complexities: Roman occupation, Racial Tension, they would abuse the Jewish people and misuse their authority Classism, people struggling financially, broken social systems Jewish tax collectors who betrayed their own people, and temples that swindled people on the conversion to purchase necessary items Samaritans living in close proximity, you’re not supposed to interact with “those people” Leprosy running rampant, the only solution for leprosy is social distancing In the midst of the complexities Jesus is God’s level of listening. I heard your cry for an answer---Here is the way 2,000 years later: 21st Century Complexities: It’s no longer leprosy, it’s COVID 19, Social Distancing and an on going, global pandemic Meanwhile, large scale protest that can potentially spread the disease Meanwhile, riots and looting breakout, Meanwhile reports of outsiders, ANTIFA and others infiltrating the riots In the midst of the complexities Jesus has released His spirit into you and me,and now we must show the world the Jesus Way! When you meet the person, you get the full plan Jesus is the person, HE IS the plan. You can abolish laws, but only Jesus can truly reform the human heart. Where there are Fathers, there is no true failure Fathers are present even if they’re not perfect. Jesus said, OUR FATHER. If he could teach them to deal with the complexities of life by journeying with a father 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” Many Pastors afraid to talk, but we aren’t speech writers, we are called to be spiritual fathers We love because we are loved John 1:10-13 10He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11He came to his own,b and his own peoplec did not receive him. 12But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. “The closer the people of all races get to Christ and His cross, the closer they will get to one another.” —Billy Graham

Lepers In The Church Today Giving Hope to the Hopeless Lathan Craft pt 1 (https://kcrpodcast.com/hqdefault-4/) We all have a story. A story of our life. A story that contains heartache, trauma, rough times, good times, blessed times. Times that we want to cherish and times we would rather forget. A story can have so many twists and turns that, by the time you reach the end, you have no idea how you got there. Many times and for many people, their story ends without them fulfilling the purpose of their story. Sometimes, our story takes us where we had no clue what our ultimate goal was going to be. But here we are. The point being, everyone has a story to tell. Our guest today has made it a point, to not only tell his story, but help and encourage others to share their story as well. In doing so, he helps to instill hope in others and encourage them that God always has the last Word. Nathan Craft is a husband, father, pastor, writer, speaker and a podcaster. Praise God! He had devoted his life to being a hope-dealer (I did not say dope dealer – I said HOPE dealer – amen)! He believes that everyone is just one heartbeat away from hope, no matter how hopeless things may seem right now. This belief in the power of hope is why Lathan has launched a new non-profit called, “A Heartbeat of Hope,” which aims to spread the words of hope to those who need them most. Can you tell us the importance of Hope in this dying world? Especially with all that we see happening around us right now. Can you explain how you reach those, whom you call, “on the fence about church?” What does that mean and what do you do to reach them? That includes those who may have been hurt by the church at one time or another as well, correct? What about people that may have worked against the church? Working with the ungodly to destroy the church (and I’m talking about the Body of Christ Church not a physical building church). Your book, “ The Leper in the Church: Stories of the Unseen (https://amzn.to/39XG1L4) ” is about those inside our churches today that are suffering from mental disorders, depression, eating disorders and other things that the church really doesn’t address. Why did you write this book? What is the big “take away” you would like readers of your book to understand? How has your book been received from those inside the church? You are currently working on another book, a series of books, that discuss lesser known characters in the Bible. Can you give some insight on what this work is about? Maybe a couple of examples? When will these works be released? What is the name of your podcast? “The Other Side of The Church” When will it be released? Early summer 2020. A Heartbeat of Hope – non-profit founded by Lathan Craft to witness to the school campuses in America. Folks, there is HOPE. A world without hope is simply lost. That is what the devil would have you believe. You know people, right now, that are without hope. They are all around us. Lathan Craft is trying to reach them. He does it and he does it well. He IS reaching those who feel like there is no hope. The Hopeless. But Praise God – there is HOPE. His Name is Jesus. Lathan is reaching them and proclaiming there is Hope for the Hopeless and leading them to the Throne of Grace to meet their true Father! The Father that will always be there for them. A Father who loves them, despite what happens in this world. Despite what their past is like. Amen! You need to go down into the show notes, right now, and reach out to Lathan Craft. Ask a question. Invite him to come speak to your group or church. And, right now, you need to order his book, “ The Leper in the Church (https://amzn.to/39XG1L4) .” It will change your view on others who may not have it together as you do (or as together as you think you do)! Use the link down below and order your book today. In fact, order two or three.

“How much good can you have before the bad comes around?” Harry Miree is a dude. Actually, let me rephrase. He IS dude. Harry is a touring and session musician who currently lives in Nashville, TN but is originally from Alabama. He also has his own YouTube channel which is fantastic and I strongly recommend that you check it out. Overall, Harry has forged a good career for himself so far and spreads his dudely vibes wherever possible. The most common response to anyone that knew about this interview was, “oh man, that is going to be so funny!” and I am not sure if this will come as a disappointment or not but this interview is not really funny at all. It is actually the heaviest interview I have ever released. In fact, I think we were both a little disoriented after this chat. It went to some dark places and as it turns out, Harry and I share a lot of parallels in our life experiences.  I had wondered why Harry had chosen humour as his method of delivering content. It just seemed to me that everything he creates for YouTube or the times he has collaborated with Drumeo is focused on comedy. Even my content has been cited by listeners as funny and people always have something to say about my laugh. So, comedy to me is also a big thing that I consider with my content. I believe it has so much to do with my dark past and my path to find happiness. I am getting closer and closer all of the time to realize that but there are definitely setbacks from time to time. So, I wondered if Harry experienced some hard times too. Once I found out what that is, everything started to make sense.   You Will Hear About….   Harry found his career in music but not without opposition. Feeling guilty for having joy. What is “dude”? What did Harry learn about Carter Beauford? Visualizing our target. Making difficult yet simple decisions. Karmic bills. A tragic part of Harry’s past.   Why Should You Listen?   How this interview unfolded was something I have not experienced yet as a journalist. As Harry and I had our chat it became apparent that both him and I share a lot of the same experiences in life. We also have a lot of painful experiences that we are both trying to find a way to process without ignoring. You probably won’t hear this side of Harry anywhere else and it was truly a moment of real connection. Hearing it will likely bring up things in you that you have been ignoring or stuffing down.   Follow Harry Instagram YouTube Website   Follow ‘Drumeo Gab’ Instagram Facebook YouTube

If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: “ ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. Whoever has ears, let them hear. The post He Is the Elijah Who Was to Come appeared first on Getting to Know Jesus.

For each of the 7 "I Am" Statements Jesus demonstrates that he really is who he says he is. Is this account, the Pharisees just slammed the door on the blind man that Jesus healed and they kicked him out of "the fold". He was no longer allowed in the temple- they stood at the gate to the temple and said to this man- you can't enter. Jesus then hears of this and hunts the blind man down- then he explains that HE HIMSELF is the door- and HE IS the gatekeeper of the fold, NOT the Pharisees.
