It's Wednesday, August 13th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Indian jailor and guards beats five pastors Five pastors in central India were assaulted in custody last month.  It all began when a Hindu mob disrupted a church service. Authorities responded by arresting the pastors and slapping them with false charges of forced conversions! Then, the jailor and guards beat the ministers.  One pastor told Morning Star News, “They grabbed the opportunity, and without any trial or evidence beat us mercilessly, simply because we are Christians. … Here in Chhattisgarh [State], they are targeting all the smaller churches. … Hindu extremists target every private celebration taking place in Christian homes.” Please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in India. The country is ranked 11th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult countries worldwide to be a Christian.  Proverbs 17:15 says, “He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.” Armenia and Azerbaijan sign historic peace deal at White House The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a joint declaration for peace at the White House last Friday.  U.S. President Donald Trump called the agreement “historic” as it aims to end decades of conflict between the two southwestern Asian countries.  Armenia and Azerbaijan also signed economic agreements with the U.S., opening the region to American businesses.  Listen to comments from President Trump. TRUMP: “For more than 35 years, Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought a bitter conflict that resulted in tremendous suffering for both nations. They suffered gravely for so many years. Many tried to find a resolution. … They were unsuccessful. But with this accord, we've finally succeeded in making peace.” Trump cracks down on D.C. crime President Trump announced plans on Monday to crack down on crime in Washington, D.C. National Guard members arrived at the nation's capital yesterday. Trump also put the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia under federal control.  President Trump said, “This is Liberation Day in D.C. and we're going to take our capital back.” The White House noted, “If Washington, D.C. was a state, it would have the highest homicide rate of any state in the nation.” 415 hostile incidents against U.S. churches in 2024 The Family Research Council released their latest report on hostility against churches in the United States. Last year, American churches faced 415 hostile incidents. That's down from 485 incidents in 2023 but up from 50 incidents in 2018. Incidents included vandalism, arson, gun-related incidents, and bomb threats. Tony Perkins, the president of Family Research Council, remarked, “The American woke Left has been intentional in spreading its hostility toward the Christian faith throughout every corner of America. … Christians must … demand more from their government leaders when it comes to … preventing criminal acts targeting religious freedom.” 77th city becomes sanctuary for the unborn Life News reports that Douglassville, Texas became the 77th city in the U.S. to ban abortion last Tuesday.  The city council of Douglassville unanimously passed an ordinance to become a Sanctuary City for the Unborn. (You can send a quick one-sentence email of thanks to the City Council members through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com) The ordinance prohibits elective abortions in the city limits. It also bans abortions on Douglassville residents, regardless of where the abortion takes place.  Pastor Heston McLaurin of Douglassville Fellowship Church said, “I thank the Lord for every step forward in defending the lives of unborn children. Proverbs 6:17 says that God hates ‘hands that shed innocent blood' and He is the defender of the helpless.” Americans get majority of calories from ultra-processed foods New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Americans get most of their calories from ultra-processed foods. Such foods include sandwiches and burgers, sweet bakery products, savory snacks, pizza, and sweetened beverages. Americans get 55 percent of their calories from these ultra-processed foods. That number rose to nearly 62 percent for kids through age 18. 438th baptism anniversary of Indian named Manteo And finally, today marks the 438th anniversary of the baptism of a notable Native American.  Manteo received baptism on August 13, 1587, into the Church of England on Roanoke Island. It was considered the first baptism in the new world and the first baptism of an Indian into the Church of England. The Algonquian Indian helped English settlers at Roanoke make it through a harsh winter in 1585. Manteo also became one of the first Indians to ever visit England. He is remembered as a stalwart friend of the English in the new world. In this episode of The Mission Matters podcast, Ted Esler welcomes guests Matthew Ellison and Denny Spitters from Sixteen:Fifteen to discuss their new book, The Sending Shepherd: Leading Churches to Disciple All Nations. The book emerges from a Barna study commissioned in partnership with Pioneers, which surveyed over 400 U.S. Protestant pastors about their understanding of missions. The results reveal concerning trends: missions is rarely taught or preached, the definition of missions is widely diluted, and there's a significant disconnect between pastoral passion for the Great Commission and actual church engagement in global missions. The authors argue that pastoral leadership is critical to reversing this decline and sparking a new missions mobilization movement in the American Church.Despite the challenges, the research also points to encouraging opportunities. While only 27% of pastors report strong passion for global missions, 74% affirm the importance of the Great Commission, and 98% see missions as a biblical mandate. Matthew and Denny emphasize that this gap is a strategic opportunity. We can start to address it with clear definitions, scriptural teaching, and equipping pastors to become "sending shepherds." They encourage church leaders to connect local outreach passions with global needs and to shift from consumer-driven topical teaching to narrative-rich biblical exposition. The book offers a compelling, data-driven call to action for pastors, missions leaders, and mobilizers alike. The Mission Matters Podcast is a place to talk about the importance of our Mission as Christians. We've been working through 2 Timothy on Sunday evenings. Last week I preached from 2 Timothy 3:6-9. It's a passage–like many in the pastoral epistles–that deals with false teaching. Paul warns against the folly of false teaching (and against the folly of falling for it).Which leads to the question: what is false teaching and how do we spot it?Obviously, there is no foolproof scheme for identifying false teaching. Biblical discernment takes years of prayer, preaching, and practice. But there are certain questions that may be help us sift the good from the bad. Here are 15 discernment diagnostic questions I suggested to my congregation.10. Does it promote an unmediated approach to spirituality? Mysticism, in its technical sense, can be defined as an approach to God apart from mediation. False spirituality tries to foster intimacy with God that does not go through the mediated revelation of Scripture and does not lead one to the mediation of Christ on the cross.11. Does the false teaching traffic in under-defined terms and slogans? Liberalism starts with an inattention to words. It is the triumph of orthodoxy to be careful with language.12. Does the teaching neglect the need for repentance? Beware the feel good invitation for everyone to come to the wide open arms. The coming of the Kingdom is not good news for sinners. Simple Wisdom for Starving Souls | with Lynn Jackson

We all experience spiritual hunger or malnourishment at various points in our faith journey. On the Gospel Spice podcast, guest Lynn Jackson shares her story and offers practical wisdom on rekindling spiritual health through her book, The Recipe. Stephanie and Lynn explore how to find strength and closeness with God even in life's hardest seasons—no matter how spiritually “hungry” or exhausted you might feel. If you feel spiritually weary, you are not alone—and it is not your fault. Start where you are. Open the “pantry” of God's Bible and take a nibble. God's Word isn't reserved for the strong, but is nourishment for the hungry and the weak. With humility, honesty, and consistency, spiritual health is rebuilt one small bite at a time. And, as Lynn encourages, pass the “recipe” along: encourage others, share the method, and help one another discover God's daily provision. BUY “THE RECIPE” HERE: https://www.amazon.com/Recipe-simple-workbook-spiritual-weary/dp/B0F7NCYG63  Here's what Lynn and Stephanie discuss: 1. Understanding Spiritual Malnutrition Lynn Jackson begins by sharing her own background—growing up disconnected from God, despite church attendance, and later experiencing spiritual exhaustion as a pastor's wife. Her journey highlights that spiritual dryness isn't unique to new believers; it affects mature Christians, too. The problem isn't always a lack of desire, but feeling so weary, discouraged, or busy that opening the Bible itself feels impossible. Lynn discovered that many people in church are “starving” spiritually, even after years of faith. We need nourishment, but don't know where to begin. 2. God's Word as a Pantry—Verses as Spiritual Food Lynn describes the Bible as “God's pantry,” full of nourishing verses—like shelves brimming with food and spices. Just as our bodies need regular meals, our souls need consistent spiritual “food.” Yet, many of us avoid the pantry, believing it's inaccessible, overwhelming, or only for those with abundant time and energy. 3. The Importance of Taking “Spiritual Nibbles” A common misconception is that “good Christians” must spend hours in Bible study for it to count. Lynn challenges this, likening such expectations to serving someone a Thanksgiving feast when they need a simple piece of toast. If you're malnourished or spiritually weak, feasting isn't possible—you start with a nibble. The Recipe provides a gentle method to reconnect with Scripture, even when motivation and strength are low. Sometimes, reading and meditating on a single verse is enough. One “taste” of God's Word can reawaken spiritual appetite and begin to strengthen your soul. 4. Permission to Be Messy Many avoid engaging with God because of perfectionism—thinking spiritual practices must be beautiful, well-organized, or profound. Lynn encourages the opposite: make a mess! She tells stories of scribbled journals and a “messy kitchen” as metaphors for the normal, chaotic process of spiritual growth. The goal is connection, not perfection. 5. The Practical Steps of The Recipe The book provides a four-week, hands-on guide. Rather than lectures, Lynn offers companionship—like inviting the reader into her kitchen to watch, then join, and finally lead in “preparing spiritual food.” The process is adaptable: maybe today you need a full meal, but other days, just a single “protein bite” (verse) to carry you through. PURCHASE “THE RECIPE” BY LYNN JACKSON Stephanie could not be clearer: she strongly, strongly invites you to purchase a copy of “the Recipe” for yourself, and maybe a few more to give away as gifts to friends and family! You will not regret it. https://www.amazon.com/Recipe-simple-workbook-spiritual-weary/dp/B0F7NCYG63  MORE ABOUT LYNN JACKSON https://journeylynn.com/about/  https://thrivelead.org/about/  Scott Jackson is the CEO & Co-Founder of Thrive Leadership Foundation. Details and registration here: https://www.gospelspice.com/prayer  There are a few things in our Christian life that we know we should do more, or at least better – and prayer just might top the list. Prayer is a mystery. Why would a conversation with a human have any influence on God's eternal, sovereign plan? It defies logic, and beckons love. How can God, the Almighty Lord of Hosts, be this close, this personal? It defies understanding, and beckons involvement. But, lack of time, inspiration, and discipline, combined with the ruthless tyranny of our busy lives, push prayer to the periphery, to the “one day I'll get to it” pile. And yet, we can excel at what we endeavor to undertake. So, why isn't prayer more of a spiritual priority? Could we develop a mindset around prayer that made it attractive, inspiring, even maybe delightful? What if we attuned our spiritual ears to listen to God, and our spiritual eyes to see His provision? As an unassuming student, I'm going to humbly offer to share the little I have learned from others about the joy of prayer. I will give us theology, practical tips, and useful resources, sharing what works for me as we, together, learn to pray. If you find prayer intimidating, or if your lack of prayer makes you feel guilty or “less than,” then this is the place for you! If you have been a student of prayer for many years, this is the place for you too! If you have breath in your lungs, then prayer can become one of the deepest joys of your day. Don't miss out! A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT PRAYER To pray is to believe that God not only hears, but that He responds. It is to stand in the gap for a broken world, wielding the authority of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and trusting in the goodness of the Father. The question is not whether prayer works, but whether we are willing to pray the kinds of prayers that invite God's Kingdom into the darkest places of the earth—and of our own hearts. We may never fully understand the mechanics of prayer, or how it intersects with God's sovereignty, but we are not called to understand everything. We are called to be faithful. And faithfulness means showing up—in prayer, in persistence, in expectation. So today, let us pray not only for the comfort of our hearts, but for the transformation of the world. Let us take our place as image-bearers, co-laborers, and co-heirs. Let us believe that God is still listening—and still acting. Because He is. There's only one way to find out what might happen when we truly pray like this. Let's begin. THE MINDSET BEHIND THIS COURSE Before we begin, let me tell you the obvious: I don't really know how to pray. I'm a humble student and absolute beginner at the holy endeavor that is prayer. So, this course isn't really about what I've learned, or any wisdom I might have gathered. But, I've sat at the feet of many prayer warriors over the decades, through books and teachings. So, I'll share what I learned from them. Humility is going to be our primary heart posture! With each lesson, I will offer a few thoughts, practices, and ideas – with much humility, and not taking myself too seriously. I will also share her favorite books and resources about prayer. FInally, I will introduce you to some of the most influential prayer warriors of our history as the Body of Christ. Most importantly, I will invite YOU to pray! Learning to pray comes from praying. Our humble ambition is to inspire you to pray, and to give you a few tips on how to do that. Then, it's up to you! Prayer is a lifelong endeavor. Let's make it delightful together! So, let's get started. Support us on Gospel Spice, PayPal and Venmo!

It is good news for sinners who repent.13. Does the false teaching or teacher seem obsessed about one person, one doctrine, or one idea? An unsolicited exposé running into the hundreds of pages likely reveals more about the author than the subject.14. Does it result in an unbalanced presentation of the truth? True Christianity walks the tight rope between complementary biblical truths—truth and grace, Christ as God and man, salvation by faith alone and the necessity of the obedience of the Christian. It was usually the heretics who were guilty of resolving biblical tensions in ways that were too neat and tidy.15. Does the teaching fit with the Bible's story line of sin and salvation? How can a holy God dwell in the midst of an unholy people? If the teaching doesn't make sense as a plot line in that story, I'm suspicious.Mature Christians do not cast a critical eye on everyone and everything a hair's breadth different from them. Ooooh MAMA! For a story that's thousands of years old, we sure do hear a lot about Jezebel. Or do we? Pastors and Christian influencers like Mark Driscoll and Charlie Kirk love to invoke the idea of "Jezebel spirit" whenever they don't like what a woman is doing. But is their portrait of the character of Jezebel honest, or are they just looking for a bludgeon to beat up women? Then, we're looking at two groups that get mentioned a lot in the New Testament. Who are the Pharisees and Sadducees? Were they good guys? Bad guys? Just guys? What was their role in Jewish society at the time of Jesus, and is the Biblical account of them fair? ---- For early access to an ad-free version of every episode of Data Over Dogma, exclusive content, and the opportunity to support our work, please consider becoming a monthly patron at: https://www.patreon.com/DataOverDogma      Follow us on the various social media places: https://www.facebook.com/DataOverDogmaPod https://www.twitter.com/data_over_dogma Have you ordered Dan McClellan's New York Times bestselling book The Bible Says So yet??? We've been working through 2 Timothy on Sunday evenings. Last week I preached from 2 Timothy 3:6-9. It's a passage–like many in the pastoral epistles–that deals with false teaching. Paul warns against the folly of false teaching (and against the folly of falling for it).Which leads to the question: what is false teaching and how do we spot it?Obviously, there is no foolproof scheme for identifying false teaching. Biblical discernment takes years of prayer, preaching, and practice. But there are certain questions that may be help us sift the good from the bad. Here are 15 discernment diagnostic questions I suggested to my congregation.7. Does the teaching involve secrets? This was the appeal of Gnosticism. It purported to lead the initiate into the realm of secret knowledge. This is what makes me nervous about Masons, Mormons, and even many fraternities and sororities. Unless national security is involved, be wary of groups that are held together by tightly held secrets. Books with “secret” in the title are usually suspect too (Lesslie Newbigin's The Open Secret being the exception that proves the rule).8. Does it rely on a cartoon view of God? False teaching tends to cast God as either as a autocratic strongman or a friendly face passing out beads at Woodstock? By contrast, the God of the Bible shines forth with (to use Jonathan Edwards' phrase) a host of diverse excellencies.9. Does the teaching use big themes to negate specific verses? We should always interpret Scripture with Scripture, but we must not allow amorphous themes like love or justice or grace to flatten the contours of Scripture. For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com. Forthe last few days, I have been asking for prayers for some 600 pastors in eastIndia that we partner with to take the gospel to every creature. InJanuary of this year, I met with 400 of these pastors and promised them I wouldfind at least one person in America to pray for them. I promised them that Iwould connect them with a believer, who loves the Lord, who believes that thegospel is what changes and transforms lives, to pray for them. I've been askingyou to join me in our India pastor's prayer team and be a part of a great workthat God is doing. If the Lord is speaking to your heart right now, pleasesimply email right now at: pastormike@pmiministries.org Ilike what E.M. Bounds said. He said, "One cannot rightly call himself aChristian if he does not pray." Prayer and being a follower of JesusChrist go hand in hand. You cannot absolutely be the believer, and theChristian God wants you to be without prayer. It seems that many of our prayersare prayers that we just throw up thanking God for food, grandma, grandpa, momand dad and some of the people we work with. Then we pray desperately when weget in trouble or have a need. But the truth is Paul said, "Praywithout ceasing."  Now,Paul believed in prayer. Paul, as we pointed out yesterday, asked for prayersfor himself. He asked, "Please, please pray for me as I share the gospelthat I might be bold, that I might be courageous, that I might use the rightwords. That there will open doors and opportunities for me." These pastorsin India, are people like myself. I'm convinced, as a pastor, the only reasonI've made it is because people have prayed for me. My mother was a prayingwoman who prayed daily for me. I will never forget Henry Gold making thecommitment to pray for me as a pastor every day. From the day he was tragicallykilled in an accident, I felt like I lost one of my best friends, but I also losta prayer warrior who pleaded before the throne of God for us as we serve theLord in ministry.  Weneed your prayers. Pastors need your prayers. Everyone that the Holy Spirit ofGod puts in your heart and in your mind needs your prayers. Again I'm askingyou to take one of these pastors in your heart for prayer. I wanted to pointout a few more verses that the apostle Paul actually wrote in talking aboutpeople praying for him and the difference that it would make. And I would callthis devotion through your prayers and through the prayers of many.  Read2 Corinthians 1:8-11 again and notice how Paul faced death on several occasionsbut was delivered because, “You also joining in helping us through yourprayers so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for thefavor bestowed on us through the prayers of many”. And Paul wrote inPhilippians 1:19, “For I know that this will turn out for my deliverancethrough your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,  again thanking people my deliverance throughyour prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.” InPhilemon 1:22, Paul wrote: “At the same time prepare for me lodging for Ihope that through your prayers I will be given to you through your prayers.” Yes,my friend through your prayers these pastors in India will be able to survivethe hardship that they face. It is beyond our imagination the persecution theydeal with every day and the difficult field they work in sharing the gospel. Theyhave very little support in taking care of feeding their family and helpingprovide food for the  flock that God'sgiven to them. They often have very little education and only by God's graceand God's wisdom are they able to preach a gospel message and teach the Bibleevery Sunday.  Theydesperately need your prayers. Would you join me? Write me an email at my emailaddress below and just say, "Pastor Mike, I'll be one of those that willpray with you for a pastor". Godbless!pastormike@pmiministries.org

Pastor Josh preaches from 2nd Timothy 1:13-18 Study Questions 1) What does it mean to “guard the good deposit” and what practical steps can you take to accomplish this in your daily walk with Christ? What role does the local church play in this? 2) In verse 15, Paul mentions that “all who are in Asia” had deserted him, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. How are we to interact with those that have seemingly walked away from the faith or find themselves in unrepentant sin? 3) Paul speaks of Onesiphorus's kindness in our text and how he was “not ashamed of my chains.” How can we emulate Onesiphorus in our love and care for one another during hardship or persecution? 4) Pastors are often tasked with the difficult job of confronting those that wish to cause division within the Body. How can you pray for your pastors in this responsibility?

"But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you... I am the Lord , your Holy One, Israel's Creator and King. I am the Lord , who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick. “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Do we really believe that to live is Christ, and to die is gain? After serving for more than a decade as a gospel worker and church planter in Asia, Brother Kevin asks all believers to consider whether we actually live as if we believe these words from Philippians 1:21. He says that of ten people who come to faith in Christ in the area where he works, nine recant when the pressure of persecution rises. Yet seeing the joyful endurance of the one who remains faithful is a great source of encouragement to him. Kevin will share how the Lord called him to serve unreached people groups in Asia, and explain what a new believer is likely to face when they come to Christ in a Buddhist and animistic culture, where persecution usually begins at the family or village level. Because of fear-based animistic practices and the communal culture, the entire community feels like they are at risk when a member of their community becomes a Christian. Kevin has walked with friends who've been put in prison or kicked out of their villages. Some are living in tents because they refused to recant their commitment to Christ. Yet they meet these hardships with joy, responding in faith and perseverance to their persecution. Kevin will discuss how individualistic worldviews in Western nations like the United States compare to the collective Asian culture, and how believers show the unity within Christ's body as they rely on each other when part of the body is hurting. Learn more about the church in Asia and how to pray for Christians there and around the world who face persecution for owning a Bible, gathering for a church service, or simply wearing the name of Christ.
