In Episode 18 Antonia and Rosemary Black discuss Mary's creative ‘let', Holderlin's poem ‘In Lovely blue' and what it is to dwell. They move onto ways of thinking about the house and garden relationship. They are joined by two little people who didn't want to nap. Music: Mantle (Ave) by Joseph and Rosemary Black. It is written and presented by Kate Banks and Antonia Shack. About the Creators Antonia leads a patchwork life with jobs including but not limited to mother, book designer, editor, actor and teacher. She and Kate began discussing poetry, liturgy and gardening at the Willibrord Fellowship reading group in London and are delighted to be continuing these conversations on Radio Maria.  Kate (currently on leave from Florilegium) is a teacher of Literature, Philosophy and Theology, with a particularly keen regard for the poet and artist David Jones around whom many of her studies and her teaching-subjects have been based. She also briefly worked as a gardener in London, though she now lives with her little boy on the river Exe in Devon. He qualified for ordination but found himself more drawn to Greek mythology than to Christian dogma. In 1793 he was befriended by Friedrich Schiller, who helped him publish his early poetry. He produced works of passionate, expressive intensity, including his only novel, Hyperion (1797–99), the unfinished tragedy The Death of Empedocles, and a number of odes, elegies, and verse translations. In these works he naturalized the forms of Classical Greek verse in German and lamented the loss of an idealized Classical Greek world. His behavior became erratic, and in 1805 he succumbed irretrievably to schizophrenia; he spent his last 36 years in a carpenter's house under the shadow of insanity. La terza volta è quella giusta, la migliore. E così è anche per la scrittrice Ilaria Palomba, che con Città metafisiche è giunta alla sua terza prova poetica.Il libro porta a compimento le premesse dei due libri precedenti e ne è, in qualche modo, la pietra tombale.Intendo dire che dopo Città metafisiche la poesia di Palomba non potrà che essere altra, tanto è dirompente quest'opera. Inutile cercarvi influenze esterne: è una poesia che vive di e per sé stessa. Un nome che potrebbe far capolino è quello di Alejandra Pizarnik, ma sarebbe un riferimento ozioso evacuo; un riflesso distante.Il dolore e il sacrificio, punti cardine della poetica dell'autrice, sono qui trattati lucidamente e senza cadere nel dolorismo facile di certa poesia confessionale. La parola della Palomba è un bisturi che squarcia il velo di Maya.Se Mancanza (Alter Ego-Augh edizioni, 2017) esplorava la Perdita e Deserto (Fusibilia, 2019) raccontava le sue conseguenze, Città metafisiche è una cartolina dall'Abisso. De Beistegui’s framework for understanding art stands in contrast to a metaphysics that posits a sensible world of experience and a supersensible world of forms or essences, in which art – even non-representational and conceptual art, in some cases – exists as a mimetic go-between. De Beistegui suggests instead that art captures an aspect of reality that is literally there – an excess of the sensible, “the hypersensible”, that is typically hidden by our everyday practical ways of interacting with and experiencing reality. Our grasp of these features is metaphorical in that they are shared by things that are usually put in distinct categories, but it is the sensible/supersensible distinction that gives rise to an impoverished notion of metaphor that prompts us to think that what is metaphorical is not literally true. In this richly suggestive and provocative volume, de Beistegui draws on thinkers from Plato and Nietzsche to Merleau-Ponty and Danto, and discusses works by a wide range of artists, including Proust, Holderlin, de Koonig and Chillida, to elaborate his view. In Tübingen the houses sit along the River Neckar like nineteenth-century ladies on lounge chairs with flowing skirts and big hats: they look comfortable and bourgeois and unassailable. Like most of Germany. From the bridge over the river you can see a tower, painted yellow now, where the poet Hölderlin went crazy for 36 years: a long, slow burn that might, in other circumstances, be called life.
