Are we secretly divine? Let's explore humanity's hidden power and spiritual destiny. --> Join and support the community: https://www.creationspaths.com/ In this podcast episode, Charlie and Brian explore the concept of **Theosis** or **Divinization**, which is the belief that humans can become divine. They discuss how **early Christian teachings**, especially in Orthodox traditions, emphasize the idea that humans are meant to grow into the likeness of God. Referencing theologians like **Athanasius** and early Christian texts, they explain that this teaching has been downplayed or transformed over time to control spiritual narratives. Charlie and Brian delve into the idea of **the Divine Council**, **Elohim**, and the **image of God**, highlighting humanity's intrinsic divine nature. They also talk about the transformational role of **humility** and knowing one's place within the cosmic order. The episode challenges the conventional understanding of **hell**, **purgatory**, and **Gehanna** and emphasizes interconnectedness, **panentheism**, and the unity of all life. The discussion ties back to **Christ's teachings** on humility, the light within all beings, and how embracing our divine nature leads to spiritual growth and empowerment. Our Gospel today comes from the end of Matthew. Jesus offers the great commission which includes the Trinitarian formula and the all-important summons to Baptism. Turning first and foremost to the Book of Daniel as well as the beginning of Matthew's Gospel we discover that Jesus' reception of authority is a fruit of his self-abasement and total obedience. Looking to the Christian calling with this in mind, we realize that our own lives are meant to be an echo of Christ's obedience the fruit of which is a share in the life of the Trinity, a life of perfect love.

Actually what is happening is that we are becoming more and more aware of that deep authenticity that already is divine—the light within us. Be here today for a discussion of the process of divinization.

Our calling in life can be described as a call to divinization. What does this mean? It means that God came to Earth and took on our human nature so as to draw us into His very life. We are, in a sense, called to become God. This idea of “divinization” was common among the early Church fathers such as Irenaeus, Justin Martyr, Athanasius, Clement of Alexandria and St. Augustine. It's not that we are to become God in the sense that our nature becomes divine, this would be a heresy. Rather, we are called to become God in the sense that we are to share in His divine life, becoming one with Him in perfect unity. It would be as if God were an Ocean and we were a drop of water plunged into that Ocean. Though the specific particles of the drop of water representing us remain that one drop, it is absorbed by the waters of the Ocean representing God. Our union with Him must become so complete that God lives in us as we live in God (See Diary #1289). Reflect upon your calling to become divinized. This concept goes to the heart of our Christian vocation in that it expresses the powerful unity we are called to have with our merciful God. He wants you to share in His life and to become one with Him in every way. Though this may be hard to comprehend, you must accept it as your calling in faith. Reflect upon this concept today and tell our Lord that you give yourself to Him so as to become one with Him and to share in His very life. Lord, please come to me and divinize me in accord with Your perfect Will and abundant Mercy. I thank You for calling me to such a glorious and high calling in life and I accept this invitation from You. My life is Yours, dear Lord, transform me, consume me and do with me as You will. Jesus, I trust in You. Source of content: www.divinemercy.lifeCopyright © 2023 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

Jesus casts out the demons from the possessed. He allows them to enter the swine. All these pigs rush into the sea of Galilee and drown themselves. Why? Perhaps they prefer death to demonic possession. A possible route toward that is curiosity about divination, the seeking of knowledge by communication with spirits, who turn out to be demons. We ask rather for a quelling of curiosity and the beautiful indwelling of the Trinity, which is no less than the divinization of the child of God.

Paul Axton preaches - The explanation of the death of Christ, the divine dying in the human, is explained through the created and uncreated aspects of Wisdom (as in the theology of Sergius Bulgakov). This explanation includes how it is that salvation in dying and resurrection is imparted to all through participation (divinization) - the divinization of Christ in which all participate. Christianity exposed the injustice of scapegoating and, in doing so, robbed us of the cathartic tools which early human societies used to contain and resolve violence. Today, the Katechon which prevents violence from overflowing is three institutions that limit and channel violence: Law, Capitalism, and War. By tracing a genealogy for all three institutions, Girard comes to the terrifying conclusion that these final bulwarks against apocalypse are on the verge of collapse. Our union with Him must become so complete that God lives in us as we live in God (See Diary #1289).Reflect upon your calling to become divinized.  This concept goes to the heart of our Christian vocation in that it expresses the powerful unity we are called to have with our merciful God.  He wants you to share in His life and to become one with Him in every way.  Though this may be hard to comprehend, you must accept it as your calling in faith.  Reflect upon this concept today and tell our Lord that you give yourself to Him so as to become one with Him and to share in His very life.Lord, please come to me and divinize me in accord with Your perfect Will and abundant Mercy.  I thank You for calling me to such a glorious and high calling in life and I accept this invitation from You.  My life is Yours, dear Lord, transform me, consume me and do with me as You will.  Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: www.divinemercy.lifeCopyright © 2022 My Catholic Life! Questions Covered: 03:20 – A few years ago, I started a small apologetics ministry in Guatemala, but very few people seem to be interested in learning about the Catholic faith and how to defend it. Even some of my evangelical friends don't appear to be much interested in learning about their own faith origins. Do you have any advice?  11:20 – What is the difference between the 10 commandments in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5?  13:23 – Why does Jesus do so many miracles in the protestant churches when they are not in communion with the Catholic Church? I was received into the Catholic Church last Monday 9/5. As a Pentecostal Christian, I saw God do so many healings, signs, and wonders. Why? It gets confusing when He somehow approves them when they are so wrong on doctrine. Please help me to understand this.  21:04 – How many Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) is too many for a single Mass? Is there a canon law that all available priests must be made available during Mass to help in the liturgy of the Eucharist before appointing EMHCs?  29:03 – What is the Church’s teaching on adultery when someone is drunk?  34:01 – What does the Church require for the end of life? I know you can't deny water etc.  44:59 – I understand the theology behind Marian consecration but the language still bothers. Could a reasonable Catholic believe that Marian consecration is excessive?  48:45 – What’s the difference between Divination and Divinization?  …

In this week's episode of "Life, Love, & Light," we continue to explore how personal identity might be sustained after death and bodily decomposition. We consider the twenty-one qualities of Wisdom (Greek, Sophia) and the transformative process by which our minds are purified and transformed by the graced energy of the Holy Spirit. In both the Eastern Orthodox and Western Christian traditions, this process of radical transformation is called divinization (Greek, theosis)—that is, “becoming divine.” By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are given new eyes of wisdom and new hearts of compassionate love.  And this power is what effects our ultimate transformation. We question: How would a mind that is transformed by the death process and infused by Divine Wisdom become capable of experiencing the infinite and subtle potentialities of matter in a resurrected body?  And how might such a body accurately reflect the glorification of that transformed mind? Finally, we discuss various methods of actually perceiving Divine Wisdom at the core of our being -- through contemplative prayer. And we realize that it is Divine Wisdom within us -- the "Christic Mind" -- that alone will carry our personal identity through death into the vision of God.NOTE: This series of podcasts is based on themes from my award-winning book, "Living Resurrected Lives: What it Means and Why it Matters," co-authored by my daughter, Eva Natanya, PhD (Cascade Books, 2020).PLEASE SHARE these podcasts with your family and friends who may be searching for answers about bodily resurrection.

Augustine. It’s not that we are to become God in the sense that our nature becomes divine, this would be a heresy. Jesus, I trust in You.

Was Jesus God? If so, when did he become God? What does it matter? What changes if we say that he was born God, or became God during his life, or became God after he died? History now tells us that there were many, many Gods before Jesus came along who died and were resurrected, to the point where it was an archetypal story. Are we to believe that all of them died and resurrected, but only Jesus' resurrection counted, or were they all God? What would that mean? How would it impact our beliefs? If we are saying that all the other stories were fabricated but Jesus' was real, how do we know that? What evidence is there? What if Jesus' divinity comes from him being a great prophet, teacher, and contemplative who achieve full union with God, what the orthodox call Divinization, and so on that basis he is and was God? Other than that this allows for others who have done the same thing, would it render his life, ministry, and teachings irrelevant? If they found the tomb with his bones in it next week, would it destroy your faith? Why or why not? This and more, today on Interspiritual Insights!

The 2013 LDS Priesthood and Relief Society manual, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, features a lesson, "The Grand Destiny of the Faithful" (Chapter 5), in which one of President Snow’s most famous teachings makes a fresh appearance. Often referred to as "the Couplet," it states: "As man now is, God once was: As God now is, man may be." Encountering this teaching in an official Church publication has been surprising to many Church watchers, who have noticed in the past couple of decades a dramatic drop off in LDS comfort levels with the teaching that we human beings are on a progression path that God once traveled, and that with continued growth and development of divine qualities we can one day become Gods ourselves. So what’s going on? Why was this teaching de-emphasized? Does its appearance in the manual signal a shift from recent public outreach to show similarities between Mormon thought and that of mainline Christianity to a willingness to embrace the differences? And, for that matter, are teachings about theosis or divinization actually all that unusual when one considers the entire arc of Christian teaching? In this episode, panelists Danielle Mooney, Charley Harrell, and Tom Roberts, join Mormon Matters host Dan Wotherspoon for a thorough look at this teaching within Mormonism, as well as the wider Christian world, especially in Eastern and Greek Orthodox Christianity and writings of early thinkers who provided the impetus for the directions they took separate from what became Roman Catholicism. Fascinating, rich stuff! The panel explores the history of "couplet" theology, including one of the early forms it took in Brigham Young’s teaching about Adam as God, and discusses possible reasons for its fall from the public sphere and recent reappearance. It also takes a strong look at black Latter-day Saints and women, for whom the ideas expressed in couplet (or, at least the contexts in which it rose have been commented on by Church leaders) have been particularly problematic. Can the doctrine of theosis be separated from the difficult assumptions that have been linked to it?
