We had the opportunity of chatting with the inspiring and amazingly driven Jess Ronne. We chat about her son Lucas and all of the lovely projects she has going on right now. One thing we can all take away from this interview is that we need to get back to caring for each other. Jess recently purchased a farm, Hope Farm, to provide a place for not only her son but several other families in the area. She highlights some of the challenges of being a caregiver in her documentary and throws herself into advocacy with her non-profit, The Lucas Project. Did we mention she is also an author? Author of Sunlight Burning at Midnight, Blended with Grit and Grace, and Lovin with Grit and Grace, Mom of 8, Founder of The Lucas Project, podcast host at Coffee with Caregivers, filmmaker of the documentary "Unseen" and all-around amazing human being. Today, Clara Coleman talks with Andrew Adams of Hope Farm Organics in Newlands BC, Canada. Hope Farm Organics is at the 54th parallel, the farthest north on the series so far, experiencing less than 7.5 hours of daylight on December 21st, the shortest day of the year. It's also located in the coldest and wettest geoclimatic zone in the Prince George Forest District, with winter lows as cold as -40 where C* and F* meet. Outdoor planting doesnt begin until late /may, frosts can still occur in July, and the end of the outdoor growing season is in September. Andrew likes to joke his Summer growing conditions are the same as NC in Winter. Despite these challenges, he and his family cultivate 2 acres using greenhouses and caterpillar tunnels and sell produce year-round. A passionate forest ecologist and conservationist, he is committed to sustainable living and local food production, while increasing his effeciencies and profit in an extremely challenging climate. It's a humbling reminder of how much easier it is to grow in the winter here in Maine. Winter Growers is made possible by... Tunnel Vision Hoops, for your Winter infrastructure needs. Today I sit down with Sarah and Erin of Good Hope Farm out of Cary, North Carolina and discuss a hand full of topics regarding community help, agricultural education, farming, resiliency building and more. Good Hope farm is a community farm that focuses on providing support and acreage to up and coming farmers, so they can get their feet wet before diving into the farming life. They also serve as a support to our community by providing education on farming and agriculture to the local residences, especially the younger generation. Good Hope Farm does not stop there. Food and donations to our local food bank are being provided by the farm to support those less fortunate. The organization is one of a kind. It is there to raise awareness across the state and I am sure soon to be across the county. Check them out at the webpage below and please enjoy the conversation! goodhopefarm.org

Gary Randle has spent his life serving God. In 1989 Gary Randle and Noble Crawford co-founded Hope Farm. Hope Farm is a leadership program guiding at-risk boys to become Christ-centered men of integrity that will be leaders in their families, churches, communities and the nation. Gary’s wife Marilyn best shared with me the essence of her husband & this wonderful man of God:“To know Gary Randle is an experience and not an event. What Gary has done doesn’t accurately describe who he is. He is complicated. He has many Gary-isms. He is a thinker, dreamer, and always imagines more. He is not scared of a “no” but sees “no” as an open door and an opportunity for a kingdom “yes” He is a visionary.”To see photos of Gary and to learn more about his ministries, please visit our website at https://www.wonderfultotell.com/episodes/2019/5/11/gary-randle-god-dont-waste-nothin

We often report on nature in trouble in the podcast – so many species and habitats in the UK and around the world are under threat. But from time to time it’s worth taking stock of where work to help threatened species is bearing fruit. On this edition of Nature’s Voice Jane Markham talks to Andy Evans, head of the RSPB’s Nature Recovery Unit, and species recovery officer Stephanie Morren about some of the good news stories from the past year. These range from the appearance of a huge flock of yellowhammers at Hope Farm to progress in saving the albatross from extinction.
