I am so blessed. I have a thank God it's Monday company. The team all gets together in the conference room daily to have lunch, laugh, and discuss relationships. One of the sweetest sounds I hear all week long is the sound of employees laughing. But that's not the case in all companies. That's why I invited my next guest to the show. McKenna Curtis is the Dallas Manager of Four Day Weekend.
Emotional Recovery Clinic Keisha Wright Keisha Wright is a professional life coach from the Sunshine State of Florida. Years ago, while trying to recover from her own trauma and seeking help in counseling, she was told it would take 3 to 5 years of therapy for her to recover. She told herself she could not wait that long and called out to God for His Divine intervention. in the middle of own search for wellness, she made God a promise if He ever got her out the living hell she was in, she would spend the rest of her life teaching others how to get out as well. Today, Keisha is living out that promise by helping people become healthy so that they can thrive in their own lives. Her own journey of pain and struggle led her to open “Emotional Recovery Clinic” with the mission of teaching individuals how to recover from the pain of trauma, toxic mindsets and unhealthy relational patterns through individualized, client-centered coaching. Keisha specializes in trauma recovery, affective awareness, and marriage regeneration. Help me welcome to the program, Keisha Wright! Keisha, it is a blessing to have you on the program today. First question I always start with is this…. Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Keisha Wright?” Your bio mentions you were trying to recover from your own trauma, but found out it was going to be an extremely long process. Can you share with us a little bit about that time in your life? When you were discussing this with your therapist at the time, why were they saying this would take so long? What options did you pursue to achieve your own breakthrough? At what point did the Lord “speak to you” concerning it was time to fulfill your promise which you made to Him? What is a “Trauma Wellness Center?” Share with us the work that “Emotional Recovery Clinic” is accomplishing and how you do what you do? Were you trained in therapy or counseling? When someone contacts you, what are the processes or steps they will take and, in a nutshell, what is the goal they will achieve? You just mentioned the “Four Day Weekend.” Is this for individuals or couples? What does it consist of and what could someone expect during this long weekend with you? What is the #1 thing you would like our listeners to remember from this conversation today? Keisha, this is so interesting…If someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question or get more information, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this in the show notes below. Folks, unfortunately, this program that Keisha founded is so needful in this society today. You may not need her services – but I can almost guarantee that you know of someone who can. It may be you. It may someone close to you. A family member, neighbor, co-worker, etc. Get in touch with Keisha by using the links down below. Reach out, have a discussion and see if this is the place God has planned for you, right now. Emily is the director of corporate sales for the 25-year-old improv comedy group called Four Day Weekend. It's a boring job title for a funny woman. Emily went through Second City, in Chicago, she worked at The Onion, and she also performs. We talk about people in the SNL cast that she knows and how Four Day has survived the pandemic by doing something quite clever. Oh, and she tells a horrible joke. Six stars.
-Reclassifying the T-Rex.-What's the craziest thing you've seen on TV?-Russia loses. Fuck em.-CrossFit Quarterfinals, the same week as Chad Wo's wedding, we discuss any potential hiccups.Unanswerable Q's: Are there more wheels or doors? Chairs or stairs? Stairs or wheels? Shelves or shoes? Overrated/Underrated: Fancy Grills, Couches, Zero Responsibility, Being in a Wedding.
In this episode, Emily explains how business and comedy intersect in her improv group- Four Day Weekend. She discusses how improv is not a talent but rather a skill that needs to be practiced, and how imperfect moments are really just opportunities in life and on stage.

In this week's episode, I sit down with the super funny Emily Zawisza, and we talk about her journey into the improv world, her work at Four Day Weekend, and how to use improv’s method of “yes and” in your work and day to day life. After college, Emily enrolled in the Four Day Weekend Theater’s improv training center and was immediately hooked. This motivated her to move to Chicago to continue her improv comedy education, where she was accepted into and graduated from the world-famous Second City Conservatory, as well as the iO Training Center. While nights were spent performing with various improv troupes, she built a career on the intersection of comedy and business. From her jobs at Groupon, The Onion, The Second City, and Slate Magazine, the common thread has been how humor and intelligent wit can be powerful tools in communication and business. Now working back at Four Day Weekend, where it all started, she can be found collaborating with Fortune 500 companies to create engaging content and train employees with improvisational techniques. This episode is perfect for anyone looking for techniques and exercises to build trust and communication in the workplace or for anyone who needs a laugh or two. It's at that point you may have to improv the plan, or at least that part of it. Such is life, and such is the conversation we are having today with Frank Ford. Connect with our guesthttp://fourdayweekend.com/ (FourDayWeekend.com) Wally's Take AwayGuys, stuff happens. You will often have to improv or take another direction. The more experience you have in your relationships and career, the better you will get at living your life on your terms, while still fulfilling your responsibilities. Everything You Know About Marketing is WRONG!I can find any business owner a MINIMUM of $10,000 in less than 45 minutes…Guaranteed!...and without spending a cent more on marketing or advertising than you already are.I work with small and medium-sized businesses that have little to no money to spend on marketing. I show you how to generate all the leads you can possibly handle by evaluating your existing marketing and showing you how to dramatically reduce or eliminate the money you’re currently spending while significantly increasing both your response and conversion rates. I can typically double or triple your current response rate...but a 50 to 100 times increase isn’t out of the question. And best of all, the strategies I'll teach you will continue to work for you month after month for as long as you're in business. But listen, I know talk is cheap... and I know that you’ve heard these types of claims before, so put me to the test and let me prove that everything I've just said is 100% true. If you will invest just 45 minutes with me, I promise that I will find you at least $10,000 in additional revenue that you can begin to put in your pocket this month... and every month moving forward. We can do this 45 minute session over the phone as an added convenience to you... and I promise during the time we're together that I won't try to sell you a thing. But there is one catch. I'm writing a book detailing the strategies I use to find $10,000 for any small business owner, and my publisher has asked me to include a few additional case studies in my book. I would ask those of you who take me up on my offer to allow me to document your results and use them in my book, either under your real name or anonymously. If you're interested in making an additional $10,000 beginning this month... and every month for the rest of your life as a business owner... Success is no accident – in fact, it’s an attitude. And no one knows that better than one of the country’s most enduring and successful improv comedy troupes, Four Day Weekend. For 20 years, Four Day Weekend has been delighting audiences with their uproarious improvised performances from their Ft. Worth theatre, and have magnified their success through producing commercials, products, and live events, and are now bringing the secret of their success to publication. Happy Accidents: The Transformative Power of “Yes, And” at Work and in Life, to be published by Wiley in September 2017, teaches each reader how to facilitate a positive attitude and make the most of every opportunity by bringing the most valuable and productive skills from improvisation into your daily work and home life. “It’s a semi-autobiographical account of our journey over the last 20 years,” explains co-founder and co-author David Wilk. As their show’s success in the early days continued, the group quickly realized “We were running a business,” says Four Day Weekend’s Frank Ford. “We are not business people, and in those days, we were eighty percent show, twenty percent business. Now, we’re 80% business and 20% show.” That shift required adopting a way of thinking that is the key to the secrets revealed in Happy Accidents. “The philosophy of ‘yes, and,’ worked so well for us on stage,” Ford continues. “We asked, well, what if that was our business model as well? It not only opened up our ability to communicate within the group, but opened us up to so many different business opportunities.” One story in the book – about how the group parlayed an under-funded offer from a major company into a positive magazine article that eventually lead to delivering a major keynote presentation to members of the US Congress and meeting the President and performing for the troops – exemplifies how “we use the ‘yes, and’ philosophy to find solutions,” says Wilk. It’s worked for the group – in spades. A weekly comedy show and the ‘yes, and’ perspective have elevated the group to the point where they are now “Entrepreneur In Residence” at the business school at Texas Christian University. “Business books rarely use the word ‘empathy,’” admits group member and co-author David Ahearn. “But the ‘yes, and’ philosophy helps you as a person. You look at life differently – you don’t see mistakes, you don’t see obstacles – you see workarounds, choices. You learn about active listening, how to be a better communicator.” “After twenty years,” says Wilk, “our default now is ‘yes, and,’ and we don’t judge ideas. Being ‘yes, and’ people in a ‘no, but’ world – people want to work with you if you are a ‘yes, and’ person!” Frank Ford @4DayFrank Co-Founder & Cast Member Four Day Weekend http://fourdayweekend.com
Great business people are able to adapt, think on their feet, speak and captivate an audience, and collaborate and communicate with a variety of people in a variety of situations. These also happen to be the exact types of skills you learn in improv. Improv training is fantastic business training. The skills necessary to stand on stage and improvise any topic thrown at you, is an extremely transferable skill to business. Jonas Koffler of the improv and training group Four Day Weekend, has been helping businesses learn these skills for the past 20 years. What started as a limited six week run at a local theatre, has grown into a 20 year successful business where the group has now worked the who's who of Fortune 500 companies, toured with the USO, and performed for two different U.S. presidents. We were lucky to sit down with Jonas Koffler, and get his story, company background and advice as part of Small Business War Stories.

Drawing from examples gathered over two decades of turning a weekly Fort Worth comedy show into a full-time business that has them traveling the world and serving as Entrepreneurs in Residence at the business school at Texas Christian University, co-authors David Wilk, David Ahearn, and Frank Ford demonstrate how “yes, and” thinking helps improve communication skills, facilitate creative problem solving, and generate new ideas that can refresh and rejuvenate. From understanding the value of open minded, active listening (the ability to say “yes” to anything and mean it); to a willingness to offer out-of-the-box ideas without prejudgment (putting the “and” into action); to demonstrating authentic respect for the ideas and intentions of others, Happy Accidents shows how the same elements that make for great teamwork on stage prove to be immensely successful strategies in the workplace and board room.
