As businesses face ongoing challenges from inflation, workforce shortages and economic uncertainty, many are looking at new strategies like nearshoring to help cut costs and gain efficiencies. This episode of the Simply Trade podcast explored how implementing a nearshoring solution with the right partner can provide numerous benefits. Defining Nearshoring Nearshoring refers to outsourcing certain business functions to locations closer to home, such as countries in Latin America. This provides advantages over traditional offshoring models that send work farther abroad. Nearshore locations like Mexico and Colombia offer similar time zones and easier travel compared to places like India or the Philippines. Functions to Consider Common roles companies nearshore include customer service, dispatching, billing/invoicing and other administrative tasks that can be performed remotely. This allows existing employees to focus on higher-level, strategic work rather than getting bogged down in repetitive processes. The Value of Partnerships Guests Hunter Bell and Gena Mann from Lean Solutions Group stressed that finding an experienced partner is key to success. Their company helps set up client operations nearshore, supplying a ready talent pool for roles like transportation tracking. This scalability proved vital during COVID spikes when demand fluctuated wildly. Learning from Industry Leaders Attendees heard about the Nearshore Experience conference being held February 12-13, 2022 in beautiful Cartagena, Colombia. This event hosted by Lean Solutions Group brings together over 600 clients and other businesses. The agenda includes panels, networking and speakers addressing current challenges. It's a chance to gain insider insights from companies already implementing nearshoring strategies. Takeaways In summary, leveraging the right nearshoring partner can optimize workflows, boost cost-savings and help organizations weather economic storms. The conference provides an immersive learning experience for any company exploring ways to future-proof operations through strategic outsourcing.   Enjoy the show! It's time for another visit with Midday's theater critic, J. Wynn Rousuck, who joins us each week with her reviews of Maryland's regional stage. Today, she tells us about the new Spotlighters Theater production of [title of show]. The small-scale musical about two guys writing a musical was written, in fact, by those two guys: Jeff Bowen (music and lyrics) and Hunter Bell (book). Their self-referential play, which explores the creative and artistically transformative journey required to mount a stage musical, is directed by Stephen Foreman, with musical direction by Mandee Ferrier Roberts, and a four-member cast that includes Alex Gubler as Hunter, Nick Cherone as Jeff, Neva Sullivan as Heidi, and Natalie Stolurow as Susan. There have been some late changes to the play's production schedule. Spotlighters Theatre has announced that due to a number of positive COVID-19 tests among the cast & crew, its performances of [title of show] for Thur, Jan 26 through Sun, Jan 29 are CANCELED. Patrons with tickets for Sat, Jan 21, and for Jan 26, 27, 28 and 29, should check their email for a message from AHSpotlighters@gmail.com, with instructions for how to reschedule their tickets for a future performance of [title of show], or to convert their ticket purchase into a donation, a ticket credit, or to request a refund. [title of show] will be performed at Spotlighters Theatre from February 2-5. For more information, follow the theater link. ___________________________________________ Judy and Tom also discuss the announcements that two esteemed local theaters will be closing. Single Carrot Theatre, which has been an innovative force in Baltimore for the past 15 years, is canceling the one show left in its final season, but will continue its educational programs through the end of the academic year. Rep Stage, the professional theater-in-residence at Howard County Community College in Columbia, will be closing permanently after completing the two productions remaining in the current season.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

But she's harboring a secret, one that will take her away from him forever. A second chance at love doesn't always come along, but if it does...do we take it? Even if it only lasts one day? When he’s not pursuing his dreams onstage, this performer spends his spare time translating musicals like Hamilton from English to Japanese, on a mission to bridge the gap between Japanese and American musical theater audiences. Gen Parton-Shin is a Japanese-British actor who made his professional debut as Angel in the Official Japanese cast of Rent in 2008. While pursuing his dreams in the US, he furthered his career with leading roles in Japan's official Broadway productions of next to normal (Gabe), Dracula (Jonathan), Bare (Jason), and Rocky Horror Show (Rocky). Gen also played the lead role in an original Japanese musical Mitsuko ~Love Crosses All Borders~ in 2010, composed by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll and Hyde, The Civil War). He has been a part of numerous musical/play readings in NYC, including Other World (directed by Gabriel Barr and written by Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen of Title of Show), off-Broadway’s K-pop, and Mafatu (produced by Broadway veteran Telly Leung). He co-founded a company called Broadway in Japan, which introduced Broadway musical theatre faculty to Japanese aspiring musical theatre performers, offering invaluable education opportunities in Japan. Gen has also appeared on TV, including roles on Season 4 of Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and The Other Two on Comedy Central. In addition, Gen has self-produced three solo cabaret shows, and in the latest one he translated and performed “My Shot” from Hamilton in Japanese. During our conversation, Gen describes his musical theater journey which has taken him from the stages of Japan, to those of New York. He shares that while performing in Japan, he wasn’t always satisfied with the translations they were given to work with; thus sparking his drive and desire to see if he could do the job himself. Gen has now translated about three fifths of Hamitlon into Japanese, comparing the process to completing a puzzle which he really enjoys.  He also shares that one of his life missions is “to bridge Japan and the U.S.”, which he has begun to do with his foray into translation, hoping to make American musical theater easier for Japanese audiences to listen to and process. In this episode, we talk about:  Why he identifies as a Third Culture Kid  Completing the One-Year Conservatory program at T. Schreiber Studio on a tourist visa How he was inspired to start translating musicals into Japanese  The intricacies of translating English to Japanese  Why he thinks musical theater is so popular in Japan  Takarazuka Revue - the all female musical theater troupe in Japan Connect with Gen and watch two of his Hamilton translations: Watch Hamilton's "My Shot" Watch Hamilton's "Helpless" Check out 35mm, A Musical Exhibition IG: @GenPartonShin Twitter: @GenPartonShin Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. It’s a striking coincidence. You don’t have to be the writer of stage thrillers to see it. Maybe it’s the work of some devious theatrical conspiracy. How else to explain two shows opening in the North Bay the same weekend, each one a play about people writing a play about people writing a play. And just keep things interesting, one of these self-referential theatrical endeavors is a musical. "[Title of Show]," and yes, that’s the title of the show, was written in 2004 by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell, who proposed to the New York Musical Theater Festival that they be allowed to write a musical about the process of writing that very same musical. Eventually, with the addition of two actresses named Susan and Heidi, "[Title of Show]," with brackets, did actually appear in the festival, followed by an off-Broadway run and after a period when it looked like the show’s life was finally over, it ended up on Broadway. And yes, all of that is in the show, too. And now, it’s in San Rafael, presented by Marin Onstage at Belrose Theater, this loopy, tuneful love story to the creative process is directed by Carl Jordan, and features Fernando Siu and Phillip Percy Williams as Jeff and Hunter, and Abbey Lee and Amanda Morando as Susan and Heidi. Justin Pine appears too, as Larry, the guy at the piano, because evidently every would-be playwright has his own accompanist hanging out in the corner of his apartment, just in case inspiration strikes. It really is a show about the creation of the show it’s about, which gets a little weird at times, as we watch the writers writing the show in front of us. At one point, Jeff asks Susan why she hasn’t said anything in a while, and she responds by saying, "Because this is the first line you’ve written for me to say in a while.” The songs are, for the most part, all about writing songs, but also - and this is why "[Title of Show]" is such a great show - the songs get to the heart of what it’s like to try and create something: the insecurities and doubts, the discoveries that come out of nowhere, the thrills and joys of hitting the mark when you finally do. Energetically and sympathetically performed by the entire cast, who bring their own unique personalities to the characters indelibly established by the original Jeff, Hunter, Susan and Heidi, this is a show for anyone whose ever dreamed of doing something really hard, and knows the heartache of failure and the sheer, ecstatic wonder of success. There’s one more weekend. And running through April 5th is Spreckels Theater Company’s production of "Deathtrap." Written by Ira Leven and directed with nastiness and glee by David Yen, ‘Deathtrap’ is a two-act, five-character play about a blocked playwright discover a two-act, five character play called "Deathtrap." There is little I can say about it without spoiling the many surprises, so let me just say that the cast of five drive the play with mounting energy, balancing the mounting tension with plenty of authentic comedy. Some of the murder weapons hanging on the wall are a little conspicuously rubbery and non-threatening, but everything else in this show is sharp, loaded, and entertainingly lethal. And there you have it: Two shows about people creating shows. You should consider showing up for one for both. You won’t regret it. I’m David Templeton, Second Row Center, for KRCB.

Happy New Year, almost! This week's episode of How Was Your Week is completely wonderful. There is only one guest on the show, because that is all you and I need. The great and powerful HUNTER BELL joins us to talk about his creative process when crafting works such as [TITLE OF SHOW], NOW. HERE. THIS. and SILENCE! THE MUSICAL, the puppet-lined path he could have taken in his career, and which Rattlesnake-themed garbage shows are on his DVR. Also, fleeting Julie-reviews of SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, LES MIZ, THE GUILT TRIP, ZERO DARK THIRTY and a million other movies I saw over Christmas break, plus a quick preview of coming attractions around and concerning THE EXORCIST, about which there will be a special extrasode, because that shit needs some discussion. Plus: a confession about Yummie Tummie shirts and how they affect my silly body! A suggestion for paranoid people that might help them turn their frowns upside downs! And an astute hypothesis about Linda Blair's "Regan" character. A marvelous final show to bury along with 2012 in its sweet-ass casket.
