Jacob Shapiro sits down with Victor Hernandez, a Mexican national security analyst, to stress-test his own optimism about Mexico. Hernandez argues the army now runs eight ministries' budgets, can't out-spy the cartels, and may face limited US drone strikes Mexico has no way to resist. El Mencho's death looks more like an ambush than a victory. Nearshoring pencils out on a spreadsheet - until corruption and parallel taxation eat the margin. What does it take for a small country to compete for high-value global investment in today's economy? In this episode of Develop This!, Dennis Fraise speaks with Pilar Madrigal of the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency to explore how Costa Rica is evolving into a strategic hub for advanced industries and foreign direct investment. From its geographic position connecting North and South America to its growing reputation in high-tech sectors, Costa Rica is positioning itself as more than a nearshoring destination—it's becoming a knowledge-driven economy focused on long-term value creation. Pilar explains how the country has successfully diversified beyond tourism into industries such as life sciences, digital health, medical technology, AI, and advanced manufacturing. This transformation is powered by a strong emphasis on talent development and education, which she describes as the foundation of Costa Rica's competitiveness. A key theme throughout the conversation is that investment decisions are shifting. Companies are no longer just prioritizing cost or proximity—they are evaluating talent availability, risk mitigation, ecosystem stability, and total operating value. The discussion also highlights the importance of trust and strategic advisory relationships in attracting and retaining global investors, as well as Costa Rica's intentional focus on building long-term partnerships rather than transactional wins. A central takeaway? Costa Rica's competitive edge lies not in scale, but in stability, talent, and a deliberate strategy to move up the value chain. Key Takeaways Costa Rica serves as a strategic bridge between North and South America The economy is shifting from tourism to high-value knowledge industries Talent development is the core driver of long-term competitiveness Nearshoring now prioritizes resilience and value over proximity alone Trust and long-term partnerships are key to investor attraction Stability and ecosystem maturity offset size limitations Investment decisions increasingly focus on total operating value Key Topics Covered Costa Rica's geographic and strategic advantages Economic diversification into high-tech and life sciences Workforce development and talent pipeline strategies Challenges of scale and cost competitiveness Role of investment promotion and advisory strategy Nearshoring and global investment trends Trust-building with international investors Sound Bites "The main hurdle is the size of the talent pool." "The future of FDI is about transformation." "A common mistake is competing only on cost."

He discusses how nearshoring differs from traditional offshoring and why countries like Argentina provide strategic advantages for US-based companies seeking skilled engineers and remote professionals. Brian explains the importance of aligned time zones, cultural compatibility, and trust when building high-performing remote teams across borders. Throughout the conversation, Brian dives into the operational side of running a staffing and recruiting business, including scaling remote teams, hiring local recruiters, and creating autonomous work cultures. He also shares insights into entrepreneurship, bootstrapping versus raising capital, and the lessons learned from living and working internationally. The discussion highlights how remote-first business models, minimal overhead, and strong communication practices are reshaping the future of global work and staffing. Takeaways Nearshoring offers major advantages over traditional offshoring for US companies. Latin American talent provides strong technical skills and cultural alignment. Argentina has become a strategic hub for engineering and recruiting talent. Time zone compatibility improves collaboration and productivity. Startup culture helped shape Brian's entrepreneurial mindset. Building trust is essential when managing remote international teams. Remote teams thrive when employees are empowered and autonomous. Hiring local recruiters improves candidate quality and vetting processes. Entrepreneurship often requires balancing lifestyle and business goals. Hawaii's lifestyle influenced Brian's remote-first business model. Bootstrapping can create more operational flexibility than raising capital. Nearshoring reduces many communication challenges associated with offshoring. Cultural understanding is key when expanding internationally. Remote leadership depends heavily on communication and accountability. Latin American professionals often demonstrate resilience and entrepreneurial thinking. Minimal overhead allows remote staffing businesses to scale efficiently. Productive remote work requires trust rather than micromanagement. Recruiting high-level tech talent can generate strong long-term revenue opportunities. Cross-border businesses require adaptability and operational problem-solving. The future of remote staffing will continue growing in Latin America. 2026 Industrial Outlook: Market Rebalancing, Big Box Demand & Nearshoring Live at the IAMC conference in Little Rock, hosts interview Stephanie Rodriguez, who leads Colliers' industrial platform, about her people-focused approach to client and team relationships and her extensive travel (over 300,000 American Airlines miles last year). She discusses Colliers' positioning and performance, noting an uptick after Q1 in industrial deal and revenue counts and a stronger start to 2026, plus continued talent recruitment. Rodriguez highlights regional market dynamics: low-vacancy, conservative development and steady rent growth in the central region; strong Southeast demand driven by population growth and onshoring/nearshoring; and West Coast stabilization tied to ports. Growth drivers include steady e-commerce, dominant 3PL leasing activity, reshored advanced manufacturing (chips, pharmaceuticals), and capital-intensive data centers. Institutional owners remain focused on build-to-suit, with selective return to speculative development in low-vacancy markets and renewed big-box demand, including increased Amazon activity. 0:00 Intro and Guest Introduction 2:15 Colliers Platform and Regional Trends 5:10 Growth Sectors: 3PLs and Manufacturing 7:00 Institutional Perspectives and Spec Development 8:20 Big Box Trends and Upcoming Conferences
Most conversations about nearshoring assume you're moving away from Chinese manufacturing. Kerim Kfuri, president and CEO of The Atlas Network, has a harder truth: a lot of "nearshoring" is just Chinese foreign direct investment building factories in Vietnam and Mexico. The geography changes. The supply chain dependencies don't necessarily change with it.In this episode, recorded live on the expo floor at the Logistics World Summit in Mexico City, Kerim breaks down what 20 years of building end-to-end supply chains for small and mid-sized businesses has taught him — and what most operators still get wrong. In this episode:How The Atlas Network manages the full supply chain lifecycle for SMBs, from product idea to inventory management, across a network of 2,000 vetted factoriesWhy "nearshoring" in Vietnam and Mexico often means Chinese-owned factories with Chinese standardization — and why that matters for your tariff and sourcing strategyThe US manufacturing reality: why technology (not policy) is the actual leveler, and why we can't snap our fingers and rebuild a workforce we stopped training decades agoKerim's keynote framework from Logistics World: people, process, and innovation — and why "people" is the most undervalued of the threeWhat Kerim (MIT degree in AI and Strategy) says you actually give up when you hand too much to AI: creativity, human factor, and the interpersonal relationships that drive real businessThe signal-versus-noise framework for entrepreneurs: how to identify the three things that must get done today and stop letting everything else winWhy the most common thing Atlas Network hears from new clients is: "I wish we knew about you sooner"A bonus live interview with the founder of Logistics World Summit, who walked up mid-recording on the expo floorWatch this episode on YoutubeLinks & Resources:The Atlas NetworkKerim's book and speaking websiteBlythe's Logistics World + Mexico City Recap -----------------------------------------THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!SPI Logistics has been a Day 1 supporter of this podcast which is why we're proud to promote them in every episode. We explore how global conflicts and regional instabilities impact site selection and business continuity. The Rise of Friendshoring: Discover why companies are moving toward hybrid models and "friendshoring" to mitigate risks associated with single-location dependencies.Legal & Security Complexities: From the nuances of GDPR across different European borders to the necessity of cybersecurity certifications and penetration testing.Culture & Context: Why cultural alignment is crucial for Customer Experience (CX) and why certain processes are returning to Europe from traditional offshore hubs. The Polish Advantage: An analysis of why Poland and CEE remain powerhouses in the sector due to efficiency, high education standards, and cultural proximity to the Nordic and German markets.ESG in the RFP Process: Understanding how carbon footprint and sustainability have become non-negotiable factors for modern global partners. As Grzegorz says in our talk - "Business should be separated from geopolitics... that was the universal model we worked in for years. In my opinion, it is no longer like that." **************************** My name is Wiktor Doktór and on daily basis I run Pro Progressio Club - https://proprogressio.com/en/activity/pro-progressio-club/1 - it's a community of many private companies and public sector organizations that care about the development of business relations in the B2B model. That whole idea of countries and companies saying, “Hey, maybe we shouldn't rely on one tiny island for all our chips, or one country for all our manufacturing.” It's reshoring-bringing stuff back home. Nearshoring - moving it to friendly neighbours like Mexico. Friendshoring—working only with allies. And yeah, sometimes just slapping tariffs on things to make imported stuff more expensive. It's the opposite of the super-connected world we've been living in since the 90s and 2000s.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, the search for high-caliber talent is a constant challenge for U.S. businesses. Plugg Technologies was founded on the recognition of this immense potential, creating a dedicated pathway for U.S. companies to access the exceptional tech expertise found in countries like Argentina, Mexico, and beyond. In this episode of Good Morning BSS World, I return to Latin America for our regular monthly update on the BPO and GBS industry, and I am joined once again by my good friend and LATAM expert, Mauricio Velasquez. Based on most recent Venezuela's crisis our conversation begins with a timely look at this country – a country that historically played a significant role in regional shared services and IT operations, and which may or not once again attract attention in the coming years. Without diving too deep into politics, we focus on business realities, talent availability, and the long-term potential of Venezuelan professionals both at home and across the region. We then move to one of the hottest topics impacting nearshoring decisions today: labor costs. Mauricio shares his on-the-ground perspective on Colombia's recent 23% minimum wage increase and explains why this is a major challenge for BPO and GBS providers operating in the country. We discuss how this shift may influence investor decisions, regional competition, and geographic diversification across Latin America. The discussion also touches on AI adoption, bilingual talent availability, and the evolving balance between automation and human-centric service delivery. As always, this episode offers practical insights, real numbers, and honest opinions on where the Latin American BPO and GBS market stands today and where it may be heading next. Key points of the podcast:Venezuela's potential resurgence as a BPO and IT hub hinges on political stability and the return of skilled Venezuelans to rebuild the business environment. The significant increase in Colombia's minimum wage could impact the country's competitiveness in the BPO sector, potentially shifting business to other Latin American countries with lower labor costs. The key to leveraging AI in the BPO sector lies in combining it with human capabilities, ensuring that technology enhances rather than replaces the workforce. The Donald Trump administration revealed the US empire's new plan for global dominance in the 2025 National Security Strategy. The goal is to impose hegemony in the Western Hemisphere, reviving the colonial Monroe Doctrine, to move supply chains out of Asia and bring manufacturing into Latin America via "nearshoring", in order to economically decouple from China and prepare for conflict in Cold War Two. Send us a textWalk the floor at Web Summit without leaving your headphones. We sit down with Jo Smets, founder of BluePanda and president of the Portuguese Belgian Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, to unpack how nearshoring and AI are reshaping CRM, marketing, and team delivery across Europe. We start with clarity on nearshoring: why time zone, culture, and communication speed beat cost alone, and how that proximity pays off when you're wiring AI into daily work. Jo shares how BluePanda applies AI beyond demos—recruitment, performance, and operations—then translates those lessons into client outcomes. We compare adoption patterns across startups and corporates, call out the real blocker (end‑to‑end process automation), and map the role of global networks like BBN for keeping pace with tools and trends. The conversation pivots to trust and governance: practical ways to protect data, when on‑prem makes sense, and how to use EU AI Act guidance without stalling innovation. We explore the marketing shift from SEO to GEO, the idea of “AI‑proof” websites, and the move toward dynamic, persona‑aware content that renders at load. Jo offers a simple path to progress—pick one process, pilot, measure, educate—while keeping empathy at the core as managers start leading both humans and AI agents. Along the way, we spotlight how chambers and communities connect ecosystems across borders, turning events into learning loops and real partnerships.Looking to modernize without losing your team's identity? You'll leave with a plan for small wins, a lens for tool curation, and a sharper view of where marketing is headed next. If this resonated, subscribe, share it with a colleague who's wrestling with AI adoption, and drop a review to help others find the show. This episode was recorded in the official podcast booth at Web Summit (Lisbon) on November 12, 2025. Unlocking the Power of Nearshore Talent: Insights from Rob Levin of WorkBetterNowIn this episode, host Josh Elledge talks with Rob Levin, Chairman and Co-Founder of WorkBetterNow, about how nearshore talent is transforming the way small and mid-sized businesses scale and strengthen their teams. Rob—also the host of the Great Talent Great Business podcast and author of the forthcoming New Talent Playbook—explains why nearshoring offers a competitive advantage and how companies can use it to build high-performing, culture-aligned teams. Why Nearshore Talent Is Transforming the Modern WorkforceRob explains that U.S. companies continue to battle a persistent talent shortage, rising salaries, and intense competition for high-performing professionals. Nearshoring solves these challenges by giving leaders access to highly skilled, English-proficient team members across Latin America who work in real time, align culturally, and bring strong loyalty and work ethic. He shares examples of how roles such as executive assistants, estimating support, inside sales, marketing, finance, and customer service can dramatically increase organizational capacity. When leaders delegate operational tasks to nearshore professionals, they free themselves to focus on strategy, revenue, and growth. This week we have a group of CX and BPO experts who recently visited Georgia. This nation of 3.6m people is positioned on the Black Sea, at the intersection of Europe and Asia, and is working hard to position itself as an attractive destination for CX and BPO sourcing. Peter Ryan talked to people who travelled with him to visit Georgia this year to explore questions such as the ease of doing business there, the opportunity for multilingual CX, and how Georgia is attracting more digital and high-tech talent. Featured in the discussion: Elona Ymeri Service Delivery Manager, Assist Digital Tirana, Albania https://www.linkedin.com/in/elonaymeri/ Traci Freeman Managing Member, Believe Consulting Johannesburg, South Africa https://www.linkedin.com/in/tracifreeman/ Jasen Shirley Head of Customer Service and Sales, North America/Canada, SIXT Riverview, Florida, US https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasen-shirley-688a651b8/ ------------ https://www.investingeorgia.org/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/enterprisegeorgia/ https://www.enterprisegeorgia.gov.ge/ SUMMARY: Mark Hillary and Peter Ryan discuss a recent visit to Georgia sponsored by Enterprise Georgia, highlighting the country's potential as a CX and BPO destination. A "relentless" surge has happened in U.S-Mexico trade, which reached a staggering $840 billion in 2024 and jumped another 21% year-to-date in 2025. Companies like Echo Global Logistics are capitalizing on this growth, accelerating investment by opening a new office in Monterrey, Mexico, a key hub in the "golden triangle" of manufacturing. Nearshoring significantly enhances supply chain efficiency, cutting transit times from finished product to a U.S. door down to just 24 to 72 hours, far superior to the 14 to 20 days typically needed for freight coming from Asia. Shifting focus to the Pacific ports, we analyze the sharp, "truly historic decline" in U.S. container imports, projected to fall 15.7% for the remainder of 2025, driven by China tariffs and shipment front-loading. This soft volume is "absolutely hammering" the domestic trucking sector, leading to significant cuts in Q3 and Q4 earnings estimates for major asset-based truckload carriers like Schneider and Werner. Small carriers are feeling a "brutal" cash flow crisis, illustrated by the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing of H5 Transport, which relied heavily on factoring to make weekly payroll. Union Pacific's proposed merger with Norfolk Southern is still on, aimed at achieving $1 billion in annual cost savings. We discuss why industry veterans caution that the secured lifetime job protection guarantees for the SMART-TD union might become a "ticket to misery" for employees forced into undesirable work or relocations. Ultimately, navigating the freight industry's future requires adapting to three massive disruptive forces: effectively integrating AI and FreightTech, managing geopolitical shifts and trade policies, and adjusting to changing workforce dynamics due to automation.
