Young people are so carefree!”, but is it true? In this series ‘Snack for Thought', we dive into real conversations on the money and life issues young adults face, while keeping it light-hearted with a mukbang style, sharing the food gems around our office at Duxton Hill, giving listeners plenty to chew on.As trusted advisers to our affluent clients for over two decades, journeying with different generations, this series also gives parents and guardians insight into what their children or grandchildren (early 20s to 30s) may be experiencing. We explore the topics young adults care about, the challenges they face, and the concerns they discuss with peers. We hope these conversations help you understand them better and connect more meaningfully. In this second episode, Kate and Helen explore the “comparison trap” while enjoying Elijah pies, just a five-minute walk from our office. They discuss how constantly measuring yourself against others, whether it is body image, achievements, or life milestones, can lead to feelings of inadequacy, envy, and anxiety, especially for those in their 20s navigating social media pressures. From holiday weight comments to scrolling through seemingly effortless athletes online, Kate and Helen examine how comparison can push us towards unrealistic standards. They reflect on why knowing what you truly want, appreciating what you already have, and finding contentment in your own journey is key, reminding listeners that sometimes a slice of pie is enough and you do not need the whole cake (those calories!).Music courtesy of ItsWatR.The contributors of this episode are Kate Loo, Community & Events Executive, and Helen Tran, Senior Executive of Media Production, Group Brand Experience, at Providend, the first fee-only wealth advisory firm in Southeast Asia and a leading wealth advisory firm in Asia.Did you know that our Providend's Money Wisdom podcast is now available in video format on YouTube? As trusted advisers to affluent clients for 25 years this year, our wealth management philosophy of making ikigai decisions before money decisions is grounded in real-world experience managing more than S$1.7 billion of our clients' hard-earned assets. In this week's Money Wisdom episode, we continue our 'The Brain Behind' series, where our new co-host and Associate Adviser, Sudhan, speaks with our CEO, Christopher, about his latest Business Times article, 'Thriving in a Messy World: Why the Philosophy of Sufficiency Matters More Than Ever.'In this conversation, Christopher explains why the Philosophy of Sufficiency is even more relevant in today's world of constant comparison and noise. They discuss conventional definitions of success, from the old “5Cs” mindset to modern ideas of wealth accumulation and defining success on one's own terms. In an uncertain world, this conversation challenges how we think about sufficiency, contentment, ambition, and what truly matters in wealth planning, including the quiet balance between chasing maximum returns and sleeping peacefully at night. To gain more perspective on today's conversation, you may begin by reading Christopher's Business Times article here: https://providend.com/thriving-in-a-messy-world-philosophy-of-sufficiency/If you would like an honest second opinion on your current investment portfolio and wealth plan, make an appointment with us today. Legacy Insights is a new podcast series by Providend that explores what it truly takes to plan a meaningful and lasting legacy, beyond just writing a will, or engaging with a corporate trustee. This series explores the critical collaboration between wealth advisers and legal professionals in safeguarding your family's future. Joined by lawyers Cynthia Tang of Tang Thomas and Soo Chye from OAKS Legal, each episode shares real-life stories showing how thoughtful planning can protect your family and make a meaningful difference, offering practical insights for your own legacy journey. In this first episode, we welcome Cynthia for an insightful conversation on why legacy planning works best when a lawyer and a trusted wealth adviser work hand in hand. They explore why a clear Schedule of Assets is essential, how co-owned properties and insurance nominations can complicate distribution, and why a will is only one piece of a much bigger legacy puzzle. In managing over S$1.7 billion of our clients' hard-earned assets, Providend believes legacy planning goes beyond wealth plans or legal documents. It starts with clarity over your non-negotiable ikigai goals, assets, family circumstances, and long-term intentions. Without this full picture, even a well-drafted will can leave gaps or place unnecessary strain on those you care about most.If you have ever wondered whether a will alone is enough, this conversation is a bite-sized place to begin.Music courtesy of ItsWatR.The host of this episode, Loh Yong Cheng, is the Deputy Head of Advisory at Providend, the first fee-only wealth advisory firm in Southeast Asia and a leading wealth advisory firm in Asia.Did you know that our Providend's Money Wisdom podcast is now available in video format on YouTube? What began as an article meant to explain why Investment-Linked Policies (ILPs) are complex products that Providend chooses not to use for our clients, ended up sparking strong reactions within the industry—something that was not intended.Chris shares how the article took up quite a bit of his mind space as he reflected on both the criticism and the support it received. “A lot of people have thought about happiness and what it means to have a good life, and I would subscribe to this: We only have one life to live, and what can we do that would outlast our lives in the next 50-60 years?”We are glad to share part three, the final episode of our Providend Conversation with Jeshua, a 28-year-old who travelled during the COVID-19 pandemic to over 50 countries, navigating through the uncertainty of vaccinations, all while working remotely and keeping costs low.In this episode, Jeshua shares his experiences in running his company, Crossworks – the first remote hiring company in Myanmar – and what inspired him to start it, even before the COVID-19 pandemic.Jeshua shares that whether you are a janitor or CEO, a storeman or an army officer, it is secondary to whether you are investing in others and living in a way that will move the needle of life in the right direction.“The value and uniqueness of every individual are important; we are not robots. It is easy to reduce people to a statistic or a label, but we should also take the right path, not the easy path. A good life is a life where you have sufficiently invested in the people around you.” – We couldn't agree more with Jeshua! If you are interested in finding out more about Crossworks, you can visit their website here.Once again, it has been a joy having Jeshua with us, and we hope you find his story as inspiring as we did.Music courtesy of ItsWatR.The host of this episode, Christopher Tan, is Chief Executive Officer of Providend, Singapore's first fee-only wealth advisory firm and author of the book “Money Wisdom: Simple Truths for Financial Wellness”.The full list of Providend's Money Wisdom podcast episodes from Season 4 can be found here.Did you know that our Providend's Money Wisdom podcast is now available in video format on YouTube? Welcome to the sixth episode of our miniseries on Finding Your Ikigai, where we invite a series of guests to explore what it truly means to live a good life, incorporating the concept of Ikigai alongside Providend's Philosophy of Sufficiency. As trusted advisers to affluent clients for over two decades, we've always advocated that clients prioritise life decisions before financial ones. These life decisions are what we refer to as “Ikigai” decisions. In this episode, our Founder and CEO, Christopher Tan, chats with Shulin, a lawyer turned recruiter and Managing Director at Aslant Legal, whose mission is to serve the legal community. She is also the host of the podcast After the Bar, where she interviews lawyers, former lawyers and other movers and shakers in the legal industry. Shulin reflects on her evolving understanding of Ikigai, using it to embrace her God given strengths and pursue what truly lights up her life while making a meaningful impact on others. She emotionally recalls grieving the loss of her “lawyer” title and shares that, while money was never her main motivator, she feels genuinely happy and fulfilled, something that cannot be measured in financial terms.Through deep conversations with our advisers, you will gain clarity on what matters most in life and what needs to be done to live a good life, both financially and non-financially—with your Ikigai goals at the forefront of your wealth plan.Music courtesy of ItsWatR.The host of this episode, Christopher Tan, is Chief Executive Officer of Providend, Singapore's first fee-only wealth advisory firm and author of the book “Money Wisdom: Simple Truths for Financial Wellness”.The full list of Providend's Money Wisdom podcast episodes from Season 4 can be found here.Did you know that our Providend's Money Wisdom podcast is now available in video format on YouTube? “Some of the guesthouses are closed due to the pandemic, so I had to pitch a tent along the road to stay a night.”In this three-part episode, we are joined by Jeshua, a 28-year-old who travelled during the COVID-19 pandemic to over 50 countries, in a span of three years! He navigated through the uncertainty of vaccinations and avoided quarantines & visa applications, all while he was working remotely and keeping costs low – with a total estimated spent of just US$3000.Jeshua has always been a proponent of working remotely, and this travel-experience was simply an extension of his belief. In fact, he found it ‘abnormal' to do what everyone else was doing. He shared: “The worse lesson we can pick up is that everything in life progresses in a sequence.”Through his travels, he discovered that there are more ways to define success than by being rich, such as generosity and happiness. It is important how we view others in the community and look out for one another. “If we become so developed and neglect those around us, we have lost the plot!” This is indeed a good reminder on what living a meaningful life is all about – the people around us.It has been a joy having Jeshua with us and we hope you find his story as inspiring as we did. Part 2 and Part 3 oof this interview will be published soon. So do keep a look out for it!Music courtesy of ItsWatR.The host of this episode, Christopher Tan, is Chief Executive Officer of Providend, Singapore's first fee-only wealth advisory firm and author of the book “Money Wisdom: Simple Truths for Financial Wellness”.The full list of Providend's Money Wisdom podcast episodes from Season 4 can be found here.Did you know that our Providend's Money Wisdom podcast is now available in video format on YouTube? Welcome to the fifth episode of our miniseries on Finding Your Ikigai, where we invite a series of guests to explore what it truly means to live a good life, incorporating the concept of Ikigai alongside Providend's Philosophy of Sufficiency. As trusted advisers to affluent clients for over two decades, we've always advocated that clients prioritise life decisions before financial ones. These life decisions are what we refer to as “Ikigai” decisions. In this episode, our Founder and CEO, Christopher Tan, sits down with two of his long time friends and army buddies, Han Kiat, an Associate Professor, and Maurice, an Accountant, to talk about all things ikigai and the role it plays in their lives. For Han Kiat and Maurice, choosing to serve in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) beyond the mandatory ten years was not just a commitment, it became their ikigai, a purpose they held closely for much of their early adult lives. Now as fathers, they reflect on their shared experiences, even as their sons serve in different vocations during their National Service. Does a different path diminish the value of their own ikigai? And how did they bridge the gap between those differences with their sons? They reflected on how simple, ordinary moments, and being there for one another over the years, can become something deeply meaningful and also part of their ikigai. You may find Han Kiat's full letter mentioned in the podcast here: https://providend.com/finding-ikigai-saf-fatherhood/Through deep conversations with our advisers, you will gain clarity on what matters most in life and what needs to be done to live a good life, both financially and non-financially—with your Ikigai goals at the forefront of your wealth plan.Music courtesy of ItsWatR.The host of this episode, Christopher Tan, is Chief Executive Officer of Providend, Singapore's first fee-only wealth advisory firm and author of the book “Money Wisdom: Simple Truths for Financial Wellness”.The full list of Providend's Money Wisdom podcast episodes from Season 4 can be found here.Did you know that our Providend's Money Wisdom podcast is now available in video format on YouTube?
