Negative body image!! Have ya ever had negative thoughts about your body? Not liked what you see when you look in the mirror? Changed your clothes 15 times only to end up wearing something baggy that covers the areas you don't quite like? This was once a daily occurrence for me. I struggled on and off for years from the age of 14 on. Itused to suck up all of my time and sometimes I would let it ruin my entier day. SO how dod I overcome it all? Can I just say, it's not always daisies, rainbows and butterflies BUT it no longer ruins my day. I am able to quiet the thoughts if and when they sneak up on me. It has changed my life tremendously because I worked on changing up my mindset and turned those negative thoughts into positive ones. See, we weren't born hating and shaming ourselves, it's a LEARNED behavior and I had to UNLEARD all the BS that I learned from the outside sources. In this episode of "Compared to Who?" host Heather Creekmore continues the important conversation on stopping negative thoughts about our bodies. Heather highlights the necessity of reevaluating beliefs about body image and the importance of valuing God's thoughts above one's own. Drawing from Isaiah 55:8-9, she encourages the listener to assess whether they live in alignment with God's truth or prioritize maintaining a certain image in the eyes of others. Heather also discusses the idea of self-worship and the pursuit of self-created ideals, emphasizing the need to shift focus from self to God. She delves into the significance of embracing humility and repentance as transformative measures. The episode emphasizes the use of the "Philippians 2:8 filter" to assess and process thoughts. Heather walks the listeners through a practical application of this filter, guiding them to evaluate thoughts against the criteria of truth, honor, righteousness, purity, loveliness, excellence, and praiseworthiness. Throughout the episode, Heather encourages listeners to identify and discard detrimental thoughts, highlighting the liberating impact of cultivating a healthy thought life. Heather also shares personal experiences and testimonials from her journey, attesting to the transformative power of aligning thought patterns with biblical truths. Negative body image is something that so many of us struggle with – regardless of our nationality, age, or background. It almost seems to be part of the human condition, something that is innate to our journey here on Earth. But is it, really? While not liking our body – or constantly trying to achieve a certain weight or shape – is ubiquitous around the world, the truth is that is NOT a natural, normal part of being alive. Our beliefs around body image and beauty are instead ingrained from us at a young age. We were, quite literally, taught to believe that beauty looks a certain way, and that we must do everything we can to attain this beauty … or else. Depending on our culture, family, and childhood, the beauty ideals we grew up with might be different from other people. But regardless, these ideals have a very similar effect on us: they cause massive low self-esteem throughout adulthood, until we recognize and release them. That's what we explore in this episode, where we meet Sharon, 32, who has been trying to lose about 15 pounds – but can't figure out why she's unable to fully commit to her diet and exercise. Growing up in Chinese culture, Sharon learned from watching Chinese beauty pageants on TV that to be thin and light was beautiful. She was mesmerized by the beauty contestants, and imagined herself one day being as pretty and elegant as they were. Her parents and community also echoed this value, and her weight fluctuations were frequently a topic of conversation. All of this was even more confusing to Sharon because, in Chinese culture, sharing food is a way of sharing love. Her dad was an amazing chef and made delicious food – and she was encouraged to relish it, just not too much of it. Now as an adult, Sharon understandably has a lot of conflicted feelings about food and her body. She finds herself still wanting to achieve the ideal body, the one she dreamed of as a little girl. But that thin, lythe body always feels just out of reach – no matter how hard she tries to diet or get to the gym. Sharon just can't quite get herself to consistently do the things that she thinks would help her lose weight – and she's wondering what to do. So in this episode, Marc David, founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, explores: ✅ The keys to recognizing childhood conditioning around body image – and how to begin to let it go. ✅ Why the belief, “I'm not good enough,” will almost always derail our weight loss efforts. ✅ Weight loss as an emotional, non-linear type of goal, and why this matters in the weight loss journey. ✅ Learning to approach weight loss from a place of inspiration and self-love. No matter where we're from or what our background is, almost all of us have been taught certain beliefs around weight and beauty. But as this episode demonstrates, we don't have to keep feeding these beliefs. We get to choose which beliefs we want to embrace – and one of the most important beliefs about ourselves we can ever choose is, “I love myself. I am enough.” Enjoy this powerful episode! --------------- Learn more about us at The Institute for the Psychology of Eating: https://psychologyofeating.com/ Ready to call a ceasefire in your battle with eating, and find peace and freedom with food? Body shame is real. We've all experienced it, but what do we do about it? Earlier in May, Oprah Winfrey hosted a three-hour-long forum with body love experts, actresses, and influencers to start a conversation about bodies, weight, and how we can start changing the narrative. Titled, "Making the Shift" and hosted by WW (formerly known as Weight Watchers), the conversation had several meaningful moments where women from all over the country shared the hurt, shame, and confusion they'd felt about their body image. In today's episode, Heather digs into what happened in the Oprah conversation. She explores how the one piece missing from these eloquent conversations is the key unlocking body shame. If you've been struggling with your body size or shape, and are looking for a fresh answer that's meatier than telling yourself positive affirmations in the mirror, this conversation will be a great encouragement to you. There are real answers out there for your body image struggles -- and the good news is they don't require Jedi mind tricks or "naked jump roping in front of the mirror" (yes, that was from the Oprah special!!!). We know the Lord created us in His image, but how do we deal with negative body image? Finding freedom from negative body image isn't found through changing our bodies, but by changing our perspective. Brynn and Ka'eo talk about practical ways to reframe our mindset as we head into summer.
On this week's episode, I'm speaking with Certified Body Trust® Specialist Heidi Andersen about the topic of embodiment, something that she sees as vital to the healing of food and body issues. And in case you're not quite sure how to define embodiment, Heidi describes it as: The ability to land safely in our body in the present moment, just how we are. How lovely is that?? Can you image how your food and body issues would just melt away if you experienced this? Let me back up here for a minute and introduce Heidi to you. Heidi Andersen is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, Certified Body Trust® Specialist, Certified Safe and Sound Protocol Provider, Registered Yoga Teacher and Embodiment Specialist. During her therapist career, she has worked as a therapist in residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient levels of care with people struggling with eating disorders. Heidi currently supports clients with Reclaiming Beauty, an outpatient group practice of body-centered psychotherapists specializing in weight inclusive treatment for the intersection of trauma, attachment wounds, and eating disorders through a body liberation lens and somatic approach. Heidi also provides consultation, mentorship and consult groups for professionals, as well as trainings, workshops and retreats. Heidi believes embodiment heals and combines her studies of Somatic Internal Family Systems, Embodied Recovery for Eating Disorders, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and the Center for Body Trust® in her support of her clients. She is also the author of the Reclaiming Beauty Journal and Wisdom Deck, a resource created to support women in building a self-compassionate relationship with their body. As you can see, she really knows what she's talking about! Heidi and I cover a lot of ground in this episode, but the key takeaway is this: you must heal your relationship with your body in order to heal your relationship with food. I'll let Heidi say it herself: “You can't really heal what's happening in the body unless you really bring the body to the forefront.” Heidi discusses how previous (and unfortunately current) eating disorder treatment models don't involve the body at all--they're merely focused on the mind. This makes absolutely no sense, since eating disorders are very often a result of body shame and/or a disconnection from the body. Therefore, working on being in your body is a giant piece of the work. On this episode, Heidi and I also talk about: How to talk about size and weight with clients Why anger can help us heal the shame that we've internalized The fact that diet culture is a reflection white supremacy culture, colonization, and racism How embodiment is the antidote to body image issues Why it's wrong to say that body image is the last part of the process of healing from an eating disorder How to start becoming more embodied We also talk about the three categories of protectors that Heidi tends to see disconnecting us from our bodies. Those are: Self-Objectifying parts (those who have learned that you're an object, not a subject) Parts who are invested in diet culture as an attachment figure Parts who use disembodiment to avoid pain that the body is carrying related to past trauma As you can see, we covered a lot! In a society overly fixated on our outward appearances and achievements, we can easily get caught in loops of shame or disappointment about our bodies and, from a place of harsh judgement, push ourselves to fix, change or improve what we perceive as flaws or inferiorities. As ever-changing and impossible standards permeate our environments and our minds, we can counter ingrained self-criticism by actively practising body appreciation and creating the space to treat ourselves and our bodies with more compassion, acceptance and appreciation. In this episode of Deep Resilience, I invite you to unhook from negative thoughts and comparisons and contemplate the many ways your body supports and nourishes you as the vehicle through which you experience the world. If you're a long time follower, you know I've struggled on and off with body image issues and I've discussed the “recovery” process of it all…BUT there are times when those thoughts try to haunt you. SO what happens when they come creeping back? I always say, its not always butterflies, rainbows and unicorns” and, it's not. If you've been listening to my most recent podcast you are aware that healthwise, I have a few things going on which I believe hav lead me to a little bit of a weight loss down fall ( yep, I said downfall) Surprised? I mean who gets upset or has body image thoughts when they lose weight? IT doesnt matter WHAT SIZE you are, if the thoughts are there, they WILL always be there no matter what size you are. It's what's going on in your head that you have to work on not so much that damn number on the scale. Well, recently these thought have been trying to creep in and I have been fighting them off. I know the old me would be flipping the fuck out with all that is going on. BUT with the mindset changes that I have gone through things are easier to work through and don't freak me out as much as they used to. SO let's talk about that a bit more…shall we?

“My body became my business card,” Belinda explains in today's interview. You'll hear all about Belinda's journey from experiencing weight loss success and even coaching others in a popular weight loss business to being overwhelmed with body image issues and desperate for help. Belinda just completed the Body Image Freedom Framework online course and group coaching program. Belinda reached out on her 40th birthday for help and is now sharing her story after spending 12 weeks in Heather's coaching and course. Belinda had the “after” picture, but it hadn't fixed her body image issues. Today Belinda shares what she thought and expected from the program, how the program worked for her, and where she's at now in her body image struggles. “God wants you to be healthy and thin” was the message she heard, but it soon became an idol that Belinda was chasing and feeling more and more trapped instead of more freedom. Now she feels like she has tools to knock down the lies and fight to believe what God says about her worth and her body. Belinda shares how she had to re-learn principles around food and body from a biblical perspective and how she's wrestled her heart posture and beliefs around beauty. She shares how this course helped her take that head knowledge and make it heart knowledge. They also talk about how heavy the body shame is when women are struggling with body image issues and always trying to change their body to feel better about it. They also talk about how the group coaching program connected Belinda to a group of women who understand not only her body image struggles but also understand a biblical perspective on how to solve them. In this short and encouraging episode, I want to share the power of positive affirmation. They might sound simple, but they have the potential to make a significant difference in how you perceive yourself. By crowding out those negative thoughts with positive affirmations, you can make room for thoughts that will help you to change the way you see your body and yourself. I hope you find this episode inspiring. Peace and Blessing! LaDawn Hickman Holistic Nutrition Weight Loss and Accountability Coach What's Next?! Want a customized plan? Today, in this replay episode, we are going to be talking about body image and how the way we view ourselves is often distorted and how that distorted view of ourselves can lead to pain, depression, and anxiety and hold us back from doing so much! Please note: This topic may be very sensitive to many. We are doing this episode to expand awareness of these challenges and the subsequent problems they may make even worse. Please be aware this episode COULD potentially trigger some very raw emotions and reactions. We address body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and suicidal thoughts and actions. If any of this is sensitive, again, please be aware these are addressed. Additionally, if any of this is a challenge you're having trouble overcoming, please seek help. Will and Jon are NOT professional clinicians and nothing stated during this episode should be taken or perceived as medical advice. Though we will talk broadly about body image, we will also get into speaking specifically about MEN and body image as this is typically seen as something that affects females more than males… and this may even be true - BUT it IS still a problem for boys and men and we want to make sure it IS known amongst that population and addressed! #32: On today's episode, Han brings on her friend and founder, Rachel Granger, to share her journey from a small town in Northern California to LA to pursue her dreams. The girls discuss: her story, dealing with bullying and harsh criticism, working through negative body image, getting back to your true self, authenticity in entrepreneurship, tips for getting into your dream career, building a business that prioritizes human connection, all things PR and how she launched her own agency, and personal faith.Rachel's an accomplished Publicist and Public Relations expert with years of demonstrated experience in the Public Relations, Communications, Fashion, Beauty, Luxury, Wellness, and Entertainment industries.BLUE JEANS PUBLIC RELATIONS is founded on the basis of hard work, loyalty, authenticity, and humility and is a celebration of meaningful values within a city that I feel has haphazardly lost its regard for honest work, sincerity, and the belief that who you are and where you come from is good enough. Body positivity is a movement that encourages people to accept and love their bodies, regardless of their size, shape, or appearance. However, while body positivity is important, it's not enough. Body positivity doesn't address the root causes of negative body image, such as diet culture, unrealistic beauty standards, and trauma. It can also lead to people feeling guilty or ashamed if they don't feel good about their bodies. In this episode, we'll talk about why body positivity isn't enough and what women need to do to truly heal from negative body image. We'll also share tips on how to challenge diet culture and unrealistic beauty standards.

Today's episode of The Diet Diaries takes me back to my roots in teaching yoga and movement. One of the very first episodes of this podcast (when it was called The Movement Diaries!!) was about the difference between movement and exercise. And almost 3 years later, I'm talking about that same topic again, but with a slightly different spin, through the lens of body image and how to improve body confidence. My hope is that by the end of this episode you will be rethinking the role of movement and exercise in your life and how you can start paying attention to ways you can use your body more throughout the day—for your overall health AND as a tangible way to change your negative body image. In episode 142 you will hear: The difference between movement and exercise and why it's not semanticsHow can you use your body to get stuff done as part of your life? How this directly impacts body confidence and body image issuesSpecific ways you can add more movement to your dayWhy only exercising and not moving is a problemConnect with JordanaFind me on InstagramSign up for my Monday newsletter with lots of nutrition, body image and mindset tipsSchedule a free discovery call to talk more about working together

In this episode, I share 3 key things you're probably not considering when that feeling of frustration with not getting results comes up: 1. Better Data Collection 2. Power of Self-Esteem on Perception 3. Lowering Stress (but like, actually) If you have ever looked in the mirror and felt that sense of frustration, particularly because you'd been training hard and "eating right" and yet still, you feel like nothing has changed. You can't see a single piece of evidence for your hard work. This episode is for you. On today's Summer special, I am joined by Stefanie Michele, a Certified Coach, Occupational Therapist, Intuitive Eating Counsellor with a background in Human Development and Mental Health Psychology. Perhaps more importantly, she has first hand experience with recovery from 20+ years of body and food disorder. Her disordered eating began when she was a teenager and she then struggled with bulimia, binge-eating disorder and orthorexia well into her 30s. The binge-restrict cycle dominated her life and she lived in fear of gaining weight. However, one day she decided to enlist the support of a coach to help her change her relationship with her body and this began to aid her recovery. Stefanie has now made it her mission to help others reframe their thought patterns, heal their relationship with food and discover an identity outside of food and body image.Find Stefanie: Website: https://www.iamstefaniemichele.com/aboutInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/iamstefaniemichele/Follow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpodA big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. Today we're taking a few questions... How to overcome the urge to binge eat every meal? The title almost says it all. I can go for hours with no food, but once I start eating it is as if my body says: do it, f'ing do it Long story short: this is my 4th big weight loss, so far I went from 335 to 219 pounds. My goal is around 135 lbs, so I have a long way to go. On one hand, it's amazing that after so many failures to maintain the lost weight, I still try lol. And it's amazing that I'm now 116 pounds lighter. It's easier to walk, breathe, go up the stairs etc. But sometimes when I look in the mirror, I get so frustrated and upset with how I look. I'm still obese as per BMI (I'm 5'8). And I feel the problem is that there is a disconnect between how my brain thinks I should look after losing 116 pounds and how I look in reality, if that makes sense. On days like this I just want to say to hell with it and stop all efforts and get back to my uncontrollable eating. Submit A Question Vibe Club Waitlist

From media to societal pressures, there's a lot that can influence how we feel about our physical appearance. Here's how to cope with those feelings. The post How to Cope with Negative Body Image appeared first on A Healthier Michigan.

Through an exploration of why we judge ourselves, others, and the world around us, this podcast dives deep into how our judgments can be both natural and harmful. As we uncover the real power behind our judgments, we must ask ourselves: are we really in control of our judgments, or do we hold the power to be in control of ourselves? I was counseling a client about their food habits and judgments when things suddenly took an unexpected turn. Uncovering a pattern that extended far beyond food and deep into our beliefs and behaviors, I set out on a journey of self-exploration and awareness to help others liberate themselves from the chains of judgment and find their true selves. What I found was both surprising and inspiring - a truth that changed the way I saw the world. If you're feeling frustrated and hopeless about not being able to accept yourself, embrace self-love, and be your true self despite all the self-criticism and negative body image that you battle with, then you are not alone! Have you ever heard that, in order to love yourself, you must eat whatever you desire, that comparing yourself to others will make your self-esteem rise, or that self-judgment will help you achieve your goals? As a woman who struggles with self-judgment and body image, you may have heard these myths, but I'm here to share the truth about overcoming judgment in eating habits and self-perception. The resources mentioned in this episode are: Reflect on your own judgments and ask yourself if they are true, who decided they were true, and if everyone in the world agrees with them. Start questioning your beliefs and judgments when you hear yourself saying should or shouldn't. Consider how societal norms and expectations have influenced your judgments and beliefs. Analyze your judgments about food, behavior, appearance, and other aspects of life. Practice being more aware of your judgments and the emotions they evoke in you. Give yourself permission to judge, but avoid acting on those judgments in a negative way. Work on reducing the strength of your judgments by becoming more aware of them and questioning their validity. Reevaluate your beliefs and judgments about what is appropriate or civilized behavior. Challenge societal expectations about gender roles, body image, and other aspects of life. Share your experiences and insights about judgment with others, either in conversations or by creating content such as podcasts or blog posts. The Nuances of Judgment In daily life, judgment is a natural occurrence involving categorizing situations or people as positive or negative. While it is impossible to completely avoid judgment, it is essential to understand the nuances of our judgments and how they feel internally. By becoming hyper-aware of these judgments, individuals can begin to question and analyze their thoughts, rather than automatically acting upon them. This awareness allows for introspection and growth as an individual navigate challenging situations. Elizabeth Sherman delves into this topic on her podcast, discussing the importance of confronting and analyzing the judgments we hold about ourselves and others. Through engaging in conversation with her clients and audience, Elizabeth encourages the recognition of these judgments and the importance of questioning their validity. Acknowledging that it's impossible not to judge, she emphasizes the impact that understanding our thoughts and their origins can have on improving self-perception and relationships with others. “When we think other people are judging us, we are actually judging ourselves because we don't actually know what other people are thinking about us.” - Elizabeth Sherman Get full show notes and more information here: https://elizabethsherman.com/podcast/122
