Steve Silk Hurley is one of the founding fathers of Chicago house. His surprise hit hit in 1987, Jack Your Body, was the first house track to hit #1 in the pop charts and announced his arrival as a major talent. In this wide-ranging interview he recalls sneaking out of the house to go to parties, breaking his father's strict curfew, makes a claim for his version of ‘I Can't Turn Around' being the first house track ever made and tells the story of how Farley Jackmaster Funk's hit version was an idea originally stolen from him.

Ever heard the saying "be careful what you wish for"? Better ask House music vocalist Kym Sims.Destined to sing from a young age, Kym developed her talent as the voice behind jingles for major US brands before she ran into Hurley, a neighborhood friend who was impressed by her vocal talent at a local party. He promptly convinced her to collaborate with him and cut what became her signature record, a top 5 Dance hit in the US and an even bigger success in Europe.Having learned from past decisions that almost curtailed her career, she's now finally able to make the music she wants—on her own terms.More on Kym SimsTwitter: https://twitter.com/SimsKymInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/kym_sims.behind_the.diva_door/More on Steve "Silk" HurleyInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/stevesilkhurley/S+S Chicago: https://snschicago.comShow TracklistingAin't No Mountain High Enough (Diana Ross)Jack Your Body (Steve "Silk" Hurley)Too Blind To See It - Soul Mix (Kym Sims)Too Blind To See It - Hurley's House Mix (Kym Sims)Keep On Walkin' (CeCe Peniston)Turn It Up - Scott Featherstone House Remix (Kym Sims)Host and Producer: Diego MartinezExecutive Producer: Nicholas "NickFresh" PuzoAudio Engineer: Adam FogelSpecial Thanks to Thomas Arambula for making this interview possibleFollow us on social media: @choonspod

Part 2 of the Ultimate 90's House Music Classics picks up where the first one left off. Unsurprisingly, there are a ton of classic cuts most folks are familiar with like D-Mob and Cathy Dennis' "C'mon and Get My Love," C + C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," Technotronic's "Pump Up the Jam" and "Get Up," Jomanda's "Gotta Love For You," and other massive tracks from Crystal Waters, Inner City, Lisette Melendez, Black Box and 2 in a Room. However, it's these long forgotten 80's gems that have been sampled numerous times over the years that make my eyes water. Maurice's "This Is Acid," Royal House's "Get Funky," Double Dee's "Found Love," Steve "Silk" Hurley's "Jack Your Body" are remembered for their infectious hooks and helped define a generation of House Music that was about to explode in the coming years. I came across the long forgotten track of which I had the vinyl version "Jack To the Sound" by Hithouse, which took me way back. The song follows the path of M/A/R/R/S "Pump Up the Volume" from several years back with loops and familiar samples but was also a blend of Acid House that soon bled into the burgeoning Techno scene several years later. It's a memorable track and is part of the definitive 80's sound that broke out during the latter part of the decade. You'll know it as soon as it hits your ears. [youtube v="xO_NHg0PnJQ"] I've got one more from this four-year span of 1988 - 1991 and it's a whopper! That'll likely drop on Wednesday. After that, I plan on releasing these by two-year intervals once a month until we hit the end of the decade. I hope everyone has a fantastic week. I'll be back on in a couple of days. Until then...ENJOY! Album : The Ultimate 90's House Classics [1988 – 1991] Vol. 2 Genre : 90's Classic House Year : 2020 Total Time : 2:17:45 1. Adeva - It Should Have Been Me (Def Club Mix) 2. This collection brings together iconic tunes that defined the dance floor, featuring the 90s House music classics that set the stage for a musical revolution. Whether it's the energetic vibe of D-Mob's and Cathy Dennis' collaboration on "C'mon and Get My Love," the unforgettable dance anthem by C + C Music Factory in the Clivillés & Cole Hip-House Club Mix of "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," or the David Morales Remix of Technotronic's "Pump Up the Jam," these classic House music 90s tracks never fail to stir memories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwSJGdgFlEg But it's not only about the songs you might know by heart; it's also about rediscovering the Old School House Music treasures that laid the groundwork for the genre. Maurice's "This Is Acid," Royal House's "Get Funky," Double Dee's "Found Love," and Steve "Silk" Hurley's "Jack Your Body" echo the inventive hooks and beats that defined a generation eager for fresh sounds. Let's not forget the lost classics that still resonate, like Hithouse's Party Mix of "Jack To The Sound Of The Underground." This track captures the essence of Acid House and seamlessly blends into the rising Techno wave. It's an integral part of the 80s sound that set the stage for what was to come. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQPF8jf5_NE The Def Club Mix of Adeva's "It Should Have Been Me" and the Brothers In Rhythm Mix of Black Box's "Strike It Up" take their well-deserved place in this compilation, keeping the beats and nostalgia alive. From Joey Negro's Dum Dum Club Mix of "Do What You Feel" to the Hurley's House Mix of Jomanda's "Gotta Love For You," these classics echo an era where creativity and rhythm knew no bounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qeodbx2qAK8 Hold tight; the ride through the best 90s House music classics isn't over. There's one more volume covering this fascinating four-year span, set to drop soon. I'll be back in a couple of days to keep the musical journey alive. Joining Tim this time is writer Gary Bainbridge, who's doing his best to revisit without actually revisiting Screen Two: Coast To Coast, Radio City's Jack Your Body parody Deadly Boring, cash-in superhero movie Supersonic Man, Audisee's book-and-tape presentation of The War Of The Worlds, Buddy Comic strip Limp-Along Leslie, That Look In Your Eye by Ali Campbell featuring Pamela Starks, the Ace Reports Annual 1981, and Unbranded Soluble Cola Tablets. Along the way we'll be wondering what local radio's obsession with records with 'Of The' in the title was all about, listening to Peabo Bryson's most challenging duet, and assessing the futility of setting yourself up as a Those Spidery Octopus Things That Rolled Down Windows influencer. "In The Beginning There Was Jack and Jack had a Groove" The House Music Gospel, The Preacher's Anthem are just a few of the descriptions given to the now famous speech. Fans of House, Dance and other genres of music for that matter can most certainly finish the rest of the verse that Chuck "THE ORIGINAL VOICE OF HOUSE MUSIC " Roberts so eloquently spoke on one of House Music's most defining recordings. This is evident by the Tens of Millions of YouTube plays and samples by all Genre’s of DJ’s. This is proof of the power of those spoken words. How it all started: When: The year 1987 Who: "Jack" Where: A heavenly studio on the West side of Chicago What: Chuck explained to his people spoken in a godly voice straight from the House Book of Genesis in omniscient detail of how house music was born and the impact on it has on your body and soul. Then Jack disappeared back into the heavens only to be heard all over the world but never seen. For you see in Jack's realm there is no time. Since then House Heads have anticipated his return for 30 years to come into the presence of more knowledge and wisdom of Jack's House. Little did they know it was written for the year 2018 we would see the return of Jack and his soul stirring words of musical edification. In The Beginning There Was Jack was released on Ultra Music in 2018. This is a refreshed version of the original classic. Produced by Terry Hunter and also featuring Monique Bingham. Here are just a few of what the media articles and music industry Tastemakers have to say about the most prolific and iconic messages in dance music: DJ Wayne Williams Sr. VP of A&R at RCA Records and world famous House Music DJ and Gatekeeper states " Chuck's Acapella is arguably the most important recording in house music history next to Marshall Jefferson's "Move Your Body" Grammy Nominated DJ Terry Hunter states : My House speaks directly to the people. It's obvious as it has lasted 30 years and DJ's of all genre's still have him in their rotation. DJ Kenny Dope states" Chuck’s Acapella this is one most influential acapella s in dance music history". And the list goes on...In August 2016 Spotify Warner Music Group named this recording#1 out of 50 Greatest House Music Recordings of all time In 2014 Rolling Stone Magazine named Can You Feel It Featuring Chuck Roberts now famous speech #6 of the 20 greatest house records of all time. In July 2016 the U.K.'s BBC Music calls the speech one of the most spiritual experiences in dance music What’s up with Chuck you may ask? Well, The Chicago Native has been in music for many years and it's no wonder that he honed his vocal skills starting from his youth singing in the Church Choirs and going on to form his own R&B Bands “Mister” and “The Verdict” on NUANCE Records penning such classics as That's Where I Come In and I Wanna Thank You in the 1980’s. Unbeknownst to Chuck he would become an ICON in House Music History by forming the group Rhythm Controll and writing the classic My House. After the success of My House he enjoyed a brief stint on ZYX Records in the U.K. and has never stopped producing music over the years contributing to projects on Death Row Records for Danny Boy (the voice behind 2Pac's "I Ain't Mad at Cha"). Additionally Chuck has also worked with Sony Music producing for Glenn Jones, Bobby Debarge and many others. Chuck has also continued to work with various Gospel Groups writing and producing. 2018 proved to be a very special year as it’s the 30th anniversary of the iconic recording My House as a result Chuck is now a member of the Ultra Music Recording family and has released a new rendition of his famous speech entitled: "In The Beginning feat Monique Bingham" is out NOW!!!see the video https://youtu.be/pp8hIRUIg8g 2019 Chuck is featured on Timmy Trumpets and Kastra “Wassup Listen To The Horns”out now on all outlets. “Genesis” a new release from Yousef Circus Records out of the UK by Yousef and Harry Romero featuring Chuck Roberts. After a few unexpected weeks off I am back. Due to unforeseen events (a quick relocation of my studio, a trip the the ER resulting in emergency orthopedic surgery and a full leg cast) I wasn't able to provide you with a new mix, but i'm back and back strong! This mix starts funky, with an almost 80's sound and goes OLD SCHOOL with Jack Your Body by Steve Silk Hurley before resuming to the 4/4 house sounds you've come to expect. Plenty of new house bangers bring this 1hr 25min mix to life. Those that were around the sneak preview listening party are already creating social media buzz about this episode. Hit subscribe, download the mix, turn up the volume and allow myself to put you into a Mondaze.
