Merriam-Webster defines grief as “deep and poignant distress caused by or as if by bereavement; a cause of such suffering.” If we look at grief from that perspective, it's pretty clear cut. But what if there's more to it than this seemingly simple definition? But what if there's more to it than this seemingly simple definition? In this week's episode, guest Jeannie Ewing helps us explore a broader definition of grief than what we've been taught to believe. For example, how can grief teach us about suffering and strength? How can we hold space for the paradoxical emotions that accompany grief? How can we handle their intensity and unpredictability?Andrea also gives an update on how she has recently been impacted by a significant loss and shares how she has found peace throughout it all. Guest BioJeannie Ewing is a published author with a background in school counseling who writes and speaks about existential ambivalence, giving ourselves permission to be human, and holding space for our tender needs. “I'm not supposed to feel like this, because I'm Catholic.” Jeannie Ewing felt inept in her motherhood when she found out she was pregnant with her fifth child--she wondered why God didn't just take her in her sleep. Self-loathing consumed Jeannie as her thoughts intensified. Then Jeannie was asked to speak to a group of cloistered nuns. After the retreat, a couple of the nuns invited Jeannie to go with them to The Shrine of the Holy Innocents. In this wisdom-packed podcast, hear how God transformed Jeannie's heart as she stood in the shrine. Open your heart to God's invisible grace--let Him change you, too!

In this webinar delivered on Saturday, June 3, 2023, Jeannie Ewing engages a live audience on her book Waiting With Purpose: Persevering When God Says ‘Not Yet' (En Route Books and Media, 2017).All of life involves waiting. We wait at stoplights. We are caught in traffic jams. We agonize over medical test results. We hang on to a much-anticipated getaway. Sometimes, we wait to finish a project, welcome a new relationship, or open our hearts to the work God has begun in us. Regardless of how often we wait or upon what, Jeannie Ewing explains with clarity and encouragement how we can use the moments of waiting in our lives to grow spiritually. Waiting with Purpose will show you why God asks you to wait and how He is speaking to you in the times when nothing seems to be happening.https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/waitingwithpurpose/

Tough Talk Christian Radio with Host Tony Gambone and special guest Jeannie Ewing & Deborah Ling: Jeannie Ewing believes the world focuses too much on superficial happiness and then crumbles when sorrow strikes. Because life is about more than what makes us feel fuzzy inside, she writes about the hidden value of suffering and even discovering joy in the midst of grief. Jeannie shares her heart as a mom of two girls with special needs in Navigating Deep Waters: Meditations for Caregivers and is the author of From Grief to Grace: The Journey from Tragedy to Triumph. Jeannie was featured on National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition and dozens of other radio shows and podcasts. lovealonecreates.com or fromgrief2grace.com. Deborah Ling is a faith filled Christian that has walked with the Lord for almost 30 years. Two of her books came from The Lord healing her of an abusive past. She has worked with abused women and seen them healed through the teachings from her book. Deborah's book on submission came through God teaching her where she missed it, as her marriage crumbled. While it was too late to save her marriage she hopes this book will help others save theirs. Her book on prophetic dance was imparted to her when she sat under Don Potter. Her book The Devil's Twins came from her dealing with rejection and offense. Her next book will be her testimony and how she has walked in the shoes of the saints. Like the apostles, she was homeless... Like Philip she was translated... and it goes on... Called as a teacher and a prophet to the church, she jokes that she does not know if she is a Teaching Prophet or a Prophetic Teacher. She was called as a prophet when she sat under Bill Hamon of Christian International and has always known she was called to teach. deb.ling3@gmail.com
