Sharing her experiences of growing up in Alabama, going to college at Auburn University, enjoying her youth and eventually getting pregnant. Being a Mormon girl and now getting pregnant was not a part of her plans. Kate shares vulnerably her story through sexuality, pregnancy, marriage, divorce and her struggles through all of it. Moving back to Utah was an interesting experience for Kate at a young age as she ended up working as the VP of the Orem Utah institute for the church worldwide. Sitting at the table with some 'high up' people in the mormon church Kate saw more the business side of religion. She witnessed the members being a lot more intellectual than using prayer and heart. Shortly into her 11 year marriage Kate felt alone, then had a difficult time getting pregnant and having several miscarriages. After being told to bridle her tongue by her bishop through the end of her marriage, Kate knew she was done with religion and her marriage.Sharing her tools that she has learned, especially with womb health, is beautiful. I will read a paper that I wrote in my fourth year of university for a course called Current Trends and Issues in Nursing I wrote a paper called “An Unwanted Pregnancy: the discrimination of child-bearing and rearing women in nursing education”  Background: The role of the nursing profession promotes the health of women and newborns The ideal of preservation of dignity amongst childbearing women is in stark contrast to the actual practice of nursing schools The history of educating nurses is a rich with restrictions upon women and their sexuality Horizontal violence is peer to peer harassment or violence In this case, horizontal violence amongst nurses, including nursing instructors and nursing students, in the form of alienation and discrimination against childbearing nursing students The CNO clearly outlines the role of a nursing leader within their professional standards document placing importance on role modeling for new nurses and instilling confidence in student abilities Substantial information regarding policy and requirements for the treatment of pregnant women is available to nursing leaders However, nursing leaders - those who are masters and doctorate prepared nurses in the administrative roles within nursing education programs - are the perpetrators of the discrimination The peers of the affected students are negatively impacted because they witnessed the bullying, but they feel unable to advocate for injustices inflicted upon their peers because of the power imbalance between themselves and the administrative departments causing the stresses Those power imbalances and those feelings of being unable to advocate for your peers do not disappear when you graduate Like all nursing issues, patients are impacted by the conflict between other nurses It is well documented that good patient outcomes are increased when nurses are experiencing low job related stress Historical analysis: nursing's origin lies with Florence Nightingale, her dedication to the profession, cultivation of knowledge and immense impact on nursing education in the mid 1800s Although some of her teachings are still important, some are certainly irrelevant today During the time when Nightingale was practicing, being married was the only socially acceptable way to bear children After marriage and children, nurses would not continue working, so there were no pregnant nurses or nursing students As a celibate professional woman, Nightingale's teachings explicitly opposed pursuit of both profession and family Today, social attitudes towards childbearing have changed to incorporate equality among men and women but Nightingale's teaching still permeate current nursing education administration As a result, there is no effort made to accommodate pregnant nursing students who will require support to maintain their full-time status In the United States, there are institutional policies in place to outline pregnant students rights for administrative staff, educators, and students: the document states that students are entitled to protection from being forced to drop out, being excused from academic responsibilities, without penalty for pregnancy related reasons. Workplace stress is documented to contribute to negative outcomes, such as preterm labor, low birth weight, and postpartum depression and university students already report  higher levels of stress than the general public Efforts should be made by faculty to reduce or eliminate any additional sources of stress to promote a healthy pregnancy process The profession of nursing can no longer afford to discriminate based on...

Douglas Braun-Harvey is a sexual health author, trainer and psychotherapist. Doug is a co-founder of the The Harvey Institute, an international education, training, consulting and supervision service for Improving health care through integration of sexual health. He teaches and trains nationally and internationally linking sexual health principles within drug and alcohol treatment, group psychotherapy, HIV prevention and treatment, and child maltreatment. Previous publications include “Sexual Health in Recovery: Professional Counselor’s Manual” (2011) and “Sexual Health in Drug and Alcohol Treatment: Group Facilitator’s Manual”(2009). Doug is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Group Psychotherapist and Certified Sex Therapist. He currently serves as Treasurer of AASECT and, as an alumni of the University of Minnesota, to join their Advisory Board for the Program in Human Sexuality in which he is a founding donor of the Doug Braun-Harvey Fellowship in Compulsive Sexual Behavior. He has been providing individual and group therapy in his San Diego private practice since 1987.

Why do we separate teens from adults so much? Is it the sheer fact of age and experience or the negative connotation of the word? Tonight we are going to see why teenagers have gotten such a bad rap and inform our audience that our youth is going in the right direction. Stats (Teens Today Are Actually Good – 7 Positive Trends Prove It) Teens are typically characterized as self-involved, reckless, and only interested in “sharing” on their phones, but the youth of today, in reality, are actually behaving more virtuously than they have in a long time. Statistics tell an optimistic story. From smoking and drug use to unwanted pregnancies and abortions, the trends today show most teenagers making good choices. They are even volunteering in their communities more than ever before. =>Smoking has become uncool. According to national CDC statistics, cigarette smoking among high school students is at the lowest level in 22 years. The rate was cut almost in half, leaving just 15.7 percent of teens smoking in 2013. =>Drunk driving is far less common. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey has revealed that at half as many high school students say they got behind the wheel drunk in 2011 compared to 1991. =>Drug abuse is down. Recreational use of prescription pain relievers continue a three year decline, part of an overall two-decade trend. The number of high school kids using was 33% lower than a decade ago, according to a recently released national survey, Monitoring the Future. The survey noted that marijuana use remained stable, even with the increase of states allowing recreational use. =>Unwanted Pregnancy and Abortion has plummeted. Teen pregnancy has declined almost continuously for more than two decades, plummeting from 61 to 26 births per thousand girls, according to federal health statistics. Also, the rate of abortions among women under 20 has fallen since it peaked in the early 1990s, according to 2014 research by the nonprofit Guttmacher Institute. =>Kids are hanging in there until graduation. Efforts to keep teens in school are paying off. The National Center for Educational Statistics reported the high school dropout rate has decreased from 12 percent in 1990 to 7 percent in 2012. Today’s teens regularly volunteer more. A higher number of teens in twelfth-grade are volunteering at least once per month. The proportion rose from 24 percent in 1991 to 37 percent in 2012, according to Child Trends. The nonprofit research center that tracks youth trends says it is an encouraging trend, “Teens who volunteer are more likely to have positive academic, psychological, and occupational well-being.” Armed with these positive trends, the next time you hear complaints about “today’s youth” you can inject the conversation with a few rays of hope.

The rate has steadily declined since 1991, when it was 117 per 1,000 teens between the same ages.U.S. teen birth rates have also declined. In 2010, according to the Centers for Disease Control, the rate was 34.3 births per 1,000 teens, compared to 61.8 births per 1,000 teens in 1991.
