This week, we're sharing a presentation entitled "Abortion Beyond The State" by Jex Blackmore and Hydra Mutual Aid Fund, recorded at the 2024 Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair in so-called Asheville, NC. You can find more audios, past schedules and more at ACABookfair.NoBlogs.Org. Transcript PDF (Unimposed) Zine (Imposed PDF) From the description: "Government control of reproductive capacity has long persisted as a tool to subordinate birthing people, women, people of color, people living on lower incomes, and other marginalized groups. The Supreme Court's harmful ruling in Dobbs made clear that both the State, its actors, and the non-profit industrial complex have failed the people, giving rise to the urgent necessity for the movement to defend itself through direct provisions to community. This workshop will provide context to the current crisis surrounding bodily autonomy and reproduction and share a roadmap for subverting state control by building networks of support to provide safe and effective abortion regardless of legality. The Hydra Fund is an independent mutual aid fund supporting access to reproductive care in Michigan. Their mission is to eliminate financial barriers to abortion access in Michigan by providing direct financial aid for purchasing abortion pills and obtaining in-clinic abortion procedures. Additionally, Hydra Fund is engaged in a community outreach education program to support access to evidence-based abortion information." Movement leaders -- striving to ensure all people have access to abortion since the fall of Roe -- contend that the current and future success of abortion care is the abortion pill. Whether obtaining the pill at clinics, via telemedicine providers, or a self-managed abortion (SMA), access to abortion pills levels out the playing field for millions of people who otherwise might not have access, particularly youth, BIPOC, LGBTQI++, and under-resourced people. In this episode, leaders in the abortion pill space break down how to get them, use them, and why they're critical.Visit CTLpod.com to find out more about the podcast, resources for abortion care, and information on how you can take action.Thank you to Elisa Wells and Imani Wilson-Shabaz from Plan C Pills, Christie Pitney and Dr. Rebecca Gomperts from Aid Access, Kimberly Inez McGuire from Abortion on Our Own Terms and Executive Director of URGE, Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley CEO of Power to Decide and Rachel Fey Director of Public Policy. Episode 143 is a special treat. It is the live recording of Lydia's performance with Joseph Keckler and Jex Blackmore at the UFO Factory in Detroit. A special thank you to Casey Schwochow for the recordings of the event.
Jex Blackmore is an artist and activist best known for their performances in civic spaces. Their work, which is focused on the relationship between moral religious rhetoric, sexuality, and political policy, takes aim at institutions of social and sexual oppression. Their work is featured in the Magnolia Pictures documentary, Hail Satan?, which was an official selection at Sundance 2019. They have exhibited installation and video work internationally. Most recently, their installation Sex Militant, held at Chicago's Co-Prosperity Sphere, was listed as one of the best art exhibitions of 2019 by the Chicago Reader and was protested by the Catholic Church. In 2020, their experimental endurance film An Undue Burden, premiered at the Ann Arbor Film. In 2022, they took an abortion pill on live TV which created a viral campaign for mail order abortion.

Flores was dismissed by the Dolphins after three years and back-to-back winning seasons. The 40-year-old coach was hired by Miami in 2019 after more than a decade working on the staff of the New England Patriots. The explosive suit figures to reinvigorate debate around the league's diversity hiring efforts and comes after years in which race has been a lightning rod in America's most popular sport. The NFL has long faced criticism over the dearth of Black coaches and executives in a sport in which well over half of the players are Black. The league presently has just one Black head coach, although a number of jobs remain open. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Southern District Court of New York on behalf of Flores and seeks to establish a class-action on behalf of others similarly situated, includes a wide-ranging series of allegations covering Flores's time with Miami and his efforts to get other jobs. It accuses teams, including the New York Giants, of giving him token interviews in order to comply with the league's “Rooney Rule,” which requires that franchises interview Black candidates for head coaching and general manager openings.” This is how unjust or silly rules, like the Rooney Rule, go. High Cardinal of the Global Order of Satan You can also watch this episode on Youtube where English, Italian and Spanish subtitles are available or visit the Metralla Rosa website for more details. As the new year begins, it would appear that it is presenting itself to us as a fertile ground in which to seed the ideas and ideals for new mental paradigms and lifestyles. 2020 has, undoubtedly, helped us dismantle all kinds of structures that were previously perceived as being immovable – and it is on their ruins that we have already begun to build possible, alternative and parallel new worlds. And it is precisely because this fundamental concept has been accepted in to our remote and immediate future that we, at Metralla Rosa, are beginning our new year of interviews with an outstanding and entirely relevant guest. Founding member and High Cardinal of The Global Order of Satan, Zeke Apollyon, joins us in this episode to kick start our year with what is clearly an extraordinary discussion: What does it mean to live under Satan’s rules? What does he believe it is that defines him as a Satanist? Is Satanism a philosophical construction or a religious practice? Why does humanity continue to have so many fears when it comes to the discussion of a concept that was created by men themselves, in order to deal with their own shadows? You will be able to hear first hand, during this kind, open and conciliatory conversation with Zeke, that many of the answers are, indeed, very different from what must surely have been assumed until now. Thanks to this conversation you will discover the personal journey of a sensitive and intelligent man who, by redefining his own search for individuality, has vindicated his personal choices, absorbing a faith that is agnostic, progressive, inclusive and, above all, compassionate and humanistic. Is it necessary to worship the devil in order to join a Satanic order? Is the devil merely an intellectual construct that frees you from the need of seeing yourself as a lamb of God? Is Lucifer, the morning star, merely a metaphor used to cast away the shadows within us? Discover the answers to these and many other questions in this, the conversation that Metralla Rosa has chosen to welcome you to 2021 with. And now, enjoy the interview!_____________________Related LinksZeke Apollyon: Instagram | TwitterThe Global Order of Satan: Website | YouTube | Instagram | Twitter | Facebook | International Pages_____________________For further information about this interview, including links to anything mentioned by Zeke, or to continue reading this text in Spanish, English and Italian, visit the Metralla Rosa websiteSupport the show (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/metrallarosa)

In this episode of Femmecult Radio, I interview performer, filmmaker, writer and all around effective troublemaker, Jex Blackmore. She is well known for her confrontational performance art which are usually held in civic spaces. Her work addresses the links between moral religious rhetoric, sexuality, and political policy. She has often been the target of protest by the Catholic Church for her outspoken and confrontational work. She has also been called a tireless crusader for bodily autonomy, in that her work seeks to interrogate oppressive social institutions and ideas that undermine reproductive rights, and the freedom of women to choose what happens to their own bodies. She has been featured in many publications including TIME, Vanity Fair, Washington Post, NPR, Cosmopolitan and Salon, and was featured in the 2019 documentary "Hail Satan?" Her reproductive rights advocacy has ranged from disrupting anti-choice rallies to debating the Westboro Baptist Church and her recent exhibition in Detroit, "Sex Militant", was listed as one of the best art exhibitions of 2019 by the Chicago Reader. In 2020, her endurance film "An Undue Burden", that premiered at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, interrogates barbaric, abusive state legislation that forces women to wait 24 hours or more following initial counseling by abortion providers before receiving the procedure. In this interview we talk about the importance of building supportive communities in hostile environments, the problem with moral frameworks that divide people, and the harm caused by oppressive systems require citizens to conform to ideologies that do not address practical realities of everyday life. New episode featuring very special guest Jex Blackmore! Dig it.
The 2019 documentary Hail Satan? by director Penny Lane is not a horror movie. It’s more of a political comedy. But the work of The Temple of Satan and its nefarious relation, The Church of Satan, are of interest to us, and hopefully to you. We cover the film itself, a bit of the conversation around the split with activist Jex Blackmore, and as always, performance art. If you don’t have opportunity to see this doc, you can easily follow the episode by watching a few videos about the Temple of Satan on YouTube.

Hail Satan? chronicles the extraordinary rise of one of the most colorful and controversial religious movements in American history, Hail Satan? is an inspiring and entertaining new feature documentary from acclaimed director Penny Lane. When media-savvy members of the Satanic Temple organize a series of public actions designed to advocate for religious freedom and challenge corrupt authority, they prove that with little more than a clever idea, a mischievous sense of humor, and a few rebellious friends, you can speak truth to power in some truly profound ways. As charming and funny as it is thought-provoking, Hail Satan? offers a timely look at a group of often misunderstood outsiders whose unwavering commitment to social and political justice has empowered thousands of people around the world. But with their numbers swelling and dozens of new chapters forming in cities across the globe, increased threats of violence against Satanists and disagreements within the group’s own ranks complicate the Temple’s work. As a complex and costly legal battle erupts over a similar Ten Commandments monument in Arkansas, Greaves, Blackmore, and their fellow Temple members struggle to adjust to the movement’s explosive popularity while maintaining the integrity of their core beliefs. Director Penny Lane (Nuts!, Our Nixon) once again joins us for a lively discussion on Satanic beliefs, Lucien Greaves, Jex Blackmore and the creative and subversive strategies for preserving many deeply held patriotic ideals.
