Friend of Satan: how Lucien Greaves and his Satanic Temple are fighting the religious right, The Guardian, Adam Gabbatt, 1-4-2023http://bit.ly/3DFvANkIn the aftermath of the 2022 Roe v. Wade reversal, groups like the Satanic Temple are leveraging religious freedom arguments to push back against the restrictions. The Satanic Temple claims that abortion rights align with their religious beliefs, particularly their principle that one's body is inviolable and subject to one's will alone. By filing lawsuits across various states, including Idaho, the Satanic Temple challenges the legality of these anti-abortion laws as an infringement on their religious practices.Lucien Greaves, co-founder of the Satanic Temple, emphasizes the long-term strategy in fighting the legal battles, mirroring the years of effort the religious right invested to reshape laws in their favor. This method of fighting within the system, rather than outside it, is critical to their approach, especially given the influence of Christian ideology in the political landscape. Greaves notes the frustration in how the Satanic Temple is perceived, especially regarding its use of the Satanic image, which many find triggering. Despite the theatrics associated with the Temple's public protests and rituals, Greaves and his followers continue to press for the protection of civil liberties, specifically advocating for the separation of church and state. Some, like Cindy, express concern over the use of Satanic imagery, which they believe detracts from the message of religious freedom and civil rights. The symbol of Baphomet, associated with the Satanic Temple, often provokes intense reactions, particularly from Christian conservatives. While this may bring attention, it sometimes overshadows the core message: the fight for religious freedom and bodily autonomy. Despite these challenges, advocates within the Temple see their efforts as a necessary resistance to the growing influence of religious doctrines in U.S. law.The Non-Prophets Cynthia McDonald, Jordan (Reason to Doubt) , Cindy Plaza and Helen Greene.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
Lucien Greaves is a prominent social activist and the co-founder and spokesperson for The Satanic Temple. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Greaves studied neuroscience at Harvard University, specializing in false-memory syndrome. In this wide-ranging interview, John Pinna Lucien about religious freedom, misconceptions about Satanism, and the organization's core principles. Greaves explains how the Satanic Temple aims to challenge historical "Satanic panic" narratives and religious persecution while promoting humanistic values through its seven tenets, which include compassion, justice, bodily autonomy, and scientific understanding. He discusses how the organization's use of Satanic imagery serves as both a declaration of independence from religious oppression and a reminder of historical witch hunts and persecution. The conversation touches on the Temple's legal advocacy work, its role in promoting religious pluralism, and how it confronts persistent misconceptions about Satanic rituals and practices. Throughout the interview, Greaves emphasizes that the Satanic Temple's goal is not to promote evil or antagonize other faiths, but rather to stand for principles of religious freedom and challenge religious authoritarianism while fostering acceptance of diverse belief systems. https://luciengreaves.substack.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucien_Greaves

Satanists in Florida offer to fill school counselor roles after DeSantis lawThe Hill, By Lexi Lonas, on July 8, 2024https://thehill.com/homenews/education/4760286-satanists-florida-public-school-counselors-desantis/ In an expected turn of events, the Satanic Temple is challenging a new law in Florida, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, which permits volunteer chaplains in public schools. Lucien Greaves, co-founder of the Satanic Temple, asserts that excluding them violates the First Amendment, despite DeSantis' claim that Satanism isn't a legitimate religion. This has sparked a heated debate on religious freedom and inclusion. The conversation delves into the implications of allowing chaplains from non-Christian backgrounds, such as Satanism, into public schools. One argument suggests that children, being highly impressionable, could easily be indoctrinated by religious figures, regardless of their intent. Thus, introducing chaplains into schools might favor certain religions and potentially indoctrinate children rather than fostering critical thinking skills and unbiased education. One participant shares their experience and evolving view of the Satanic Temple, initially seeing it as a mere counter to religion but recognizing its strategic role in highlighting the need for separation of church and state. The temple's tactics, such as demanding equal representation in public spaces, underscore the absurdity of religious favoritism and demonstrate why no religion should receive special privileges. The discussion also touches on legal definitions of religion. While Governor DeSantis dismisses Satanism as a religion, legal precedents and IRS criteria suggest otherwise. These criteria include having a distinct legal existence, a recognized creed, and a form of worship, all of which the Satanic Temple possesses. Therefore, excluding them from the chaplain program is legally questionable and highlights the potential for biased implementation of religious policies. One contributor argues that the best solution is to avoid introducing religious programs into schools altogether. This would prevent any one belief system from being promoted over others and maintain the neutrality necessary for public education. Instead, resources should be allocated to secular support systems like licensed counselors and better educational funding, which genuinely address students' needs without religious interference. As more states consider similar legislation, including Bible-based curricula and the display of religious texts in schools, the debate over religious inclusivity and the separation of church and state intensifies. The inclusion of diverse religious perspectives in public schools remains a contentious issue, raising questions about fairness, legality, and the true intent behind such policies. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.29.3 featuring Cynthia McDonald, Kara Griffin, Mateo and Aaron JensenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Last month, Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill authorizing Florida school districts and charter schools to adopt a policy for chaplains “to provide support, services, and programs to students"...provided those chaplains aren't Satanists. "We're not playing those games in Florida. That is not a religion," DeSantis said of Satanism. "That is not qualifying to be able to participate in this." The thing is, though, Satanism most definitely is a religion, and in the case of The Satanic Temple it is a religion in the eyes of United States tax law. DeSantis may well have said this knowing his bill likely violates the 1st amendment and thus inviting an inevitable legal fight with The Satanic Temple's founder, social justice and 1st Amendment activist Lucien Greaves. In our final episode of the season - marking the podcasts' one year anniversary - Kelly and John talk about the bill as part of creeping Christian Nationalism, why it's so hard to define a religion (and why governments shouldn't be in the business of doing so), and what Lucien Greaves and The Satanic Temple actually stand for.

Today I'm honored to finally have on the show, independent investigative researcher and reporter attempting to shine a light on the dark truths of satanic ritual abuse and the False Memory Syndrome Foundation, podcast host of her own YouTube channel, @rottingjewels, a bright light in the darkness of the survivor movement, and my dear friend, Dana!Dana is someone I relate to deeply on a level of stepping into a public role within this movement to bring awareness to the most important topics of child trafficking, satanic ritual abuse, MK ULTRA and she's dishing the tea on all the who's, when's, where's, what's and why's about it. Dana could have easily stayed behind closed doors and studied on her own or could have shut the door altogether. But instead, she devotes endless hours of her time to researching these hard topics and puts her face and name on display on her YouTube channel, @Rotting Jewels, where she goes live a couple times a week offering a safe space for others to come learn as she discusses her latest research in real time in a series of progressive episodes that build on one another. Particularly interesting about Dana's research is how she's connected some important puzzle pieces as an advocate and researcher and as someone with nothing to gain and everything to lose from sharing. Her research heavily centers on exposing the people, religious bodies, organizations, and foundations that have quietly been working overtime behind the scenes to silence the same satanic ritual abuse survivors you all know and listen to on this show. We are going to be diving deep today into the realm of the Process Church of the Final Judgement, the False Memory Syndrome Foundation, as well as exposing some key players who have been largely responsible for the silencing of victims and therapists' whistleblowing about satanic ritual abuse - including someone many of you may know by name: co-founder of The Satanic Temple, Douglas Mesner aka: Lucien Greaves. For decades, there has been a movement to silence information about SRA reaching the masses beginning with the propagandized Satanic Panic - which we covered in depth in a previous episode I did with the amazing Jaymee Jay. Dana's work is important because it brings awareness to the history and evolution of the satanic panic as well as helps us to identify lesser-known culprits and organizations that have been quietly waging a war against survivors behind the scenes and unbeknownst to many of you listening. In order to know how to defeat our enemies, we must first call them out and identify them. And Dana does just that. She is fearless, raw, honest, and works with unimaginable integrity and courage. The amount of attacks I have seen waged against Dana from all angles is astounding and reaffirms that what she is exposing is not only important, but necessary. Her courage and boldness is an inspiration to me and she's an absolute badass on the battlefield who takes no prisoners and lets nothing come between her and the truth. In this episode of Sacred Tension, I'm joined by The Satanic Temple co-founder Lucien Greaves to discuss the recent controversy in our religious community. He was recently photographed with an alleged sexual harasser and transphobe, and we reflect on the kind of culture we want to see in The Satanic Temple and why Lucien has responded the way he has to this controversy. In early June 2023, Lucien Greaves took a photograph with David Silverman, a controversial figure in the online atheist space. Silverman posted the photo to Twitter and it was met with outrage both within and outside of the TST community. Lucien has received calls for clarifying statements, and even his resignation. We discuss the principles motivating Lucien's refusal to issue statements, and why he won't publicly denounce Silverman. We address three main concerns about his leadership: 1. The photograph might signify a friendly relationship between Silverman and Lucien. If so, what does that say about our community? 2. The photograph itself wasn't the problem, but Lucien's response on Twitter came off as defensive and unhelpful. 3. Lucien has seemed conspicuously silent on trans issues, so when he is photographed with an alleged transphobe, the LGBT+ community is unsure of where he stands in regard to their rights. This was a challenging conversation to record, and I'm posting it trusting in the goodwill of our religious community. Please note that this episode was originally recorded on the 16th of June and we don't comment on some events that have taken place since then. In Episode 26 of Cult and Culture, Justin and Luke catch up with two members of short-lived 90s hardcore band End of the Line, Cory Linstrum (John Henry West) and Matt Anderson (Gravity Records, Heroin). They talk about coming up DIY, seeing Born Against play in their own garage, working with Ebullition to release their only album (now being reissued by Three One G), and the second (third? fourth?) wave of hardcore that the 90s brought with it. They also talk about the violence happening in San Diego at that time, the magic of the legendary venue Che Cafe and the scene it fostered, and the way that music helps keep people connected over decades in ways that nothing else can. They also dive deeper into Gravity Records, and some of the memorable releases including Man is the Bastard, Earthless, and Antioch Arrow. The concept of Cult and Culture began as a short segment created by Justin Pearson, an internationally known musician, record label owner (Three One G Records), author, and actor. He is perhaps best known as bassist for bands such as Dead Cross, The Locust, and Some Girls as well as vocalist for Deaf Club, Swing Kids, and Planet B. Having traveled the world touring in hardcore and punk bands since age 15, Justin has come to know and work with a broad spectrum of captivating personalities and brilliant minds, many of which are key figures in the realm of popular culture and cult followings alike-- from being on the soundtrack to John Waters' Cecil B. Demented, to acting in an Asia Argento's Incompresa, to playing in Dead Cross with Mike Patton and Dave Lombardo. Cult and Culture arose as an opportunity to document bits and pieces of the DIY-driven, subversive world of art Pearson identifies with- one that many are not aware of or perhaps have misconceptions about. Eventually, Pearson joined up with producer and bandmate Luke Henshaw (Sonido De La Frontera, Planet B, Satanic Planet, First Power Crew) to build the idea into a proper podcast, now recorded at his own PengOne Studios in San Diego. Henshaw has collaborated with hip hop legends such as Invisible Skratch Piklz' D-Styles and Q-Bert, Kool Keith, in addition to being immersed in the world of Cumbia alongside Sonido De La Frontera bandmate Karlos Paez (B Side Players). He also recently scored the music for upcoming documentary Sk8face, which tells the history of skateboard graphics. In this way, both Justin and Luke are influenced by a diverse array of subcultures that all have connected roots. John Waters was one of the first people interviewed for the podcast- an icon of both cult and culture. Since then, guests have included a broad scope of musicians, producers, authors, and anyone passionate about what they do-- anyone from Grammy-winning musician Juan Alderete (Mars Volta, Racer X, creator of Pedals And Effects) to actor Michael Malarkey (Vampire Diaries, Project Bluebook), from San Diego Black Panther Party members to longtime partners Nicola and Adam in electro-punk band ADULT. or The Satanic Temple cofounder Lucien Greaves (who would go on to form Satanic Planet with Luke and Justin as a direct result of their podcast conversation). The focus is not intended to be solely on people in any one realm, and because guests are friends and family, the conversations are frank, informal yet well-informed, and genuine. Pearson and Henshaw seek to achieve a casual openness, blurring lines between traditional guest and host. Cult and Culture is available on iTunes and SoundCloud and new episodes will be premiering on Brooklyn Vegan. You can find the latest episode premiere here. Links to the previous podcasts are below. Today, Kingdom Culture Conversations is launching a new series of irregularly scheduled episodes called "Worldview Contrasts" which have a novel approach to exploring culture and worldview. In the interest of growing discernment, better understanding the variety of worldviews, and modeling what Kingdom-motivated civil discourse should looked like, KCC hosts Geoff Brown and Chris "G" Gardiner will be sitting down with actual proponents of these (often opposing) worldviews, discussing how these differing worldviews vary from Biblical worldivew. And, we jump in with a bang!Today's guest on Kingdom Culture Conversations is Lucien Greaves, the founder of The Satanic Temple. Making news currently for advocating for "After School Satan Clubs" in public and charter elementary schools, Greaves doesn't actually believe in Satan. Instead, he is a highly intelligent, Harvard-educated, motivated, charitable advocate for secularism and the separation of church and state. (Surprisingly, Brown and G actually believe in Satan more than Greaves!)As part of the process of contrasting secularism and Biblical Christianity, we delve into Greaves' story, his motives for starting The Satanic Temple, his issues with evangelicalism, and the elements of secularism the spur him on within his efforts. It's a fascinating (and very civil) conversation that we hope that you enjoy! To facilitate this "Worldview Contrasts" Kingdom Culture Conversation (as well as the upcoming episodes of the same), the basis for comparison and conversation is the "Worldview Chart" from Summit Ministries. To investigate this resource, please follow this link."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. For more information on Frameworks, please visit: https://frameworks.ncsaz.org/For more information on Northwest Christian School, visit: https://www.ncsaz.org/To reach out to Geoff Brown, please email gbrown@ncsaz.org or you can reach him by cell phone: (623)225-5573.

This week Lydia and Tim are joined by Malcolm Jarry and Lucien Greaves from The Satanic Temple. The mission of The Satanic Temple is to encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits. The temple has applied their mission to publicly confront hate groups, fight for the abolition of corporal punishment in public schools, apply for equal representation when religious installations are placed on public property, provide for religious exemption and legal protection against laws that unscientifically restrict women's reproductive autonomy, expose harmful pseudo-scientific practitioners in mental health care, organized clubs alongside other religious after-school clubs in schools besieged by proselytizing organizations, and engaged in other advocacy in accordance with their tenets.
In this episode of Sacred Tension, I am joined once again by Lucien Greaves, founder and spokesperson of The Satanic Temple. We discuss the philosophical underpinnings of TST, the influence of The Process Church of the Final Judgement on the development of TST, his recent appearance on Tucker Carlson, and much more. The Satanic Temple has gathered a lot of media attention and Christian protest for various activities which provide an opportunity for Christians to reflect on the meaning of religious freedom, including that for religious minorities and those who make them feel uncomfortable. In this podcast I talk to Lucien Greaves, the co-founder and spokesperson for The Satanic Temple, about their After School Satan Clubs: what they are, how they relate to various Good News Clubs on school campuses, and how this relates to religious freedom and the public square. In this episode of Sacred Tension, Lucien Greaves returns to discuss every allegation of fascism and antisemitism against him and The Satanic Temple.
In this episode, we are joined by Lucien Greaves, the co-founder and spokesperson of the Satanic Temple. We have a wide-ranging conversation about the founding of the Satanic Temple, their various legal battles for religious neutrality, the Baphomet Statue, Lucien's appearances on Fox News, Satanic rituals, and the place for atheists in the congregations. We also have a round of “Can a True Satanist…?” where we learn – among other things – whether a true Satanist can wear bright-coloured clothing or use the prayer emoji. For more on the Satanic Temple:https://thesatanictemple.com/Follow them on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Satanic_Temple_Support Lucien on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LucienGreavesFollow Lucien on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LucienGreavesAnd his band:https://twitter.com/SatanicPlanetLucien's 1st appearance on Tucker Carlson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueeYIZs0xj4Lucien's 2nd appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHMEiz7J2h8Lucien on Megyn Kelly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6pL8aRmLJsFollow Nathan on Twitter: https://twitter.com/NathGAlexanderNathan's website: https://www.nathangalexander.com/If you find the podcast valuable and want to support it, check out our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/beyond_atheism You can also contribute by going to https://anchor.fm/beyond-atheism and clicking the “Support” button. EP 23 Post Funeral Equivocation Of Filthy Monkey Men I sit down with “John” of “John & Lucy” from the “I'm a F-ing A-hole” episode… after my father's funeral this past weekend. He and I grew up together, and have not had the opportunity to do this much in the past decade. He will be back for future episodes. This conversation ran for about a hour, and will be chopped up for future episodes. Remember… we all have different ways of grieving death, there is no wrong way… this is my way. We pay another visit to the JSE… and this segment is fitting this week, as it deals with inequality in this day and age. I FINALLY got to check out that Pro-Birth ultrasound van! They thought I was a threat, and had two guys out there as security… LMMFAO. Remember… the phone number for Planned Parenthood is 1-800-230-PLAN (7526). PP offers all sorts of medical services, without the religious guilt trip. We catch up with The Courier.. and the Christian Nationalism that surrounds me here in Hardin County, TN. Be careful with travel… 33% of Alabama is vaccinated… but only 30% of the 20,300 people in Hardin County, TN are vaccinated… and it is stagnant. There is a feel good story too… We check in with Skeptic Magazine… and learn about Equivocation… The B&R gets braggadocios, but we don't get into that. What I do discuss is their attempt at their mission trust, with unity and transparency. Oh… and if you think they don't mention CRT… you would be wrong. As it seems I'm always the black sheep at family gatherings… they wanted to have a catholic blessing of the food. I sat it out. Then they insisted that I give them a prayer once they were done… Lucien Greaves would be proud of my attempt. But the Catholics didn't hold up to the definition of their title… SHOCKER! This podcast, and myself, was mentioned and featured as the Farnsworth quote on The Scathing Atheist, just last week!! But what happened this week, was even more shocking! MERCH IS COMING SOON! BittyBuddha imparts words of wisdom… and makes us all cry. Thanks. Then it's on to the actual show....We welcome what we think is the devil's true advocate from The satanic temple (thesatanictemple.com) Lucien Greaves calls in to tell us all about the corporate side of the satanic church after making some valid points about the new corporate ministry style church....the crew convince Mr.Greaves that he can gain more devil worshipers by using a little WWE theatrics and be the devil we all know and love Speaking of love "Queen of the Nerds" Gia Nova is our "Spank Bank Girl of the week" and this interview goes to the outer limits from how movie monsters have sex to Gia picking out a Halloween costume that involves Uncle Eddie's penis painted blue...what you want more well then you better click that link and listen to this show but be warned it might just blow.....your mind!!!!!!!
The new Magnolia Pictures documentary Hail Satan?, directed by avant-garde documentarian Penny Lane, is a thought-provoking darkly comedic study of an upstart faction of Satanists known as The Satanic Temple (TST). Cofounded by Lucien Greaves and Malcom Jarry in 2013, TST has been a growing, mischievous, and yet whimsical presence in public life. The group has earned a reputation as diehard political activists, that takes the art of trolling to a whole new level. The discussion covers what Satanists believe, how Satanists are misunderstood, and how TST differs from other branches of Satanism. In addition to an deep dive review of the film, there is also a discussion of occcultism as a pervasive influence marked by the pursuit of hidden knowledge or power through divination (fortune-telling), spiritism (spirit-contact), and magic. Occultism poses a special threat to the church because it doesn't operate like mainline religion. Instead, it spreads like a fog, able to infiltrate most every cult, religion, and church. It's a countercultural phenomenon that can reorient good ideas and faithful practices into tools of occultism. It's too dangerous and too prevalent to ignore. But we can combat occultism first by recognizing its appeal (the promise of secret knowledge, power, and autonomy), and the signs of its influence, including wide-spread beliefs such as self-deification, depersonalization of God, and magickal thinking. Then, appreciating the different ways occultism leads practitioners astray from biblical faith and practice, we can respond with tactful discernment and devotion to God, demystifying the allure of occultism. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with Journal author John D.
