WFNY's EHC podcast returns to discuss the possibilities of trading Corey Kluber once again. With reports that the Indians are likely going to keep all of their starters, it's still difficult to believe that the Indians aren't going to try and do something big to improve their team. Will they use Corey Kluber to reallocate their assets, and acquire position player help? Gage Will, Jim Pete, and Mike Hattery take to the airwaves one more time discussing the possibilities of an Indians deal happening sooner, rather than later. Will a Kluber trade happen, or will the front office avoid trading their ace because of the recently acquired payroll relief? Did the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers create a deal with each other because the Indians refused to deal with both, or was it a message that both teams are ready to deal? The Minnesota Twins just acquired Nelson Cruz at a fairly team friendly deal that would have made a ton of sense for the Indians. Does this mean that the Indians are tight on payroll, or just in the normal waiting game? Are the Padres the real deal, or are the Indians using them to nudge the Dodgers along the way? If the Padres were truly involved in a deal with the Indians, wouldn't Fernando Tatis be a must, and ultimately, isn't that the deal-breaker? I mean, the Padres aren't dealing Tatis. Oh, and by the way, Luis Urias is going to be really good. The Los Angeles Dodgers are likely at the top of the list, and Cody Bellinger is the price the Indians most likely covet. Will the Dodgers deal him after moving Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig out of their outfield in the Reds deal? Can the Indians manage even a Alex Verdugo, Gavin Lux, and Chris Taylor as an alternative? The Reds may be the team most in play. With Nick Senzel rumored to be the Indians primary target, would a deal that includes Senzel and Jesse Winker be enough, and could they also acquire a Raisel Iglesias or Amir Garrett in the deal? What are the Indians going to do about their bullpen. Are they actually going to make a splash with a big free agent, do what they normally do, and take fliers on guys, or make another deal at the deadline? Learn more about your ad choices. There's been a lot of speculation since the Indians' season ended that the team was going to have to cut salary, and Yan Gomes was a name that has been frequently mentioned as a potential trade candidate. Gomes had a $7 million dollar guarantee in 2019, with two club options in 2020 and 2021 worth $20 million total. While it doesn't clear a ton of money in 2019, it does likely begin a process in which the Indians try and maintain their status as a World Series contender, while shedding salary and bringing in younger players. WFNY's Jim Pete, Mike Hattery, and Gage Will take a look at the Yan Gomes trade, and what it means going forward. The topics include: Yan Gomes value to the team over the years Roberto Perez stepping in as a starter thanks to his defense Eric Haase getting an opportunity to be a full time major leaguer 25-year old right hander Jefry Rodriguez, and how the Indians have an opportunity to develop him into a reliever 23-year old outfielder Daniel Johnson, and how he fits into the Indians future What are the Indians really doing here? Are they moving salary to bring in players, keep what they have, or are the just moving salary? Does moving Yan Gomes mean a Corey Kluber deal is imminent? Is Trevor Bauer trying to get traded? Conspiracy theories Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Cleveland Indians head into the Hot Stove season with many questions. With the extremely talented duo of Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez, the Indians window should remain open for the next three years. But with a maxed out salary structure, and a pitching staff that remains top-notch, but aging, can the Indians maintain their chance to win a World Series, or are we just treading water to the inevitable departure of their MVP and Cy Young candidate stars? WFNY's Jim Pete, Mike Hattery, and Gage Will dive into it with their first offseason pod since the Indians first round drubbing to the Astros. Learn more about your ad choices. Judd and Manny begin with the Opening Bell on the Wolves loss to the Clippers, and Jimmy Butler continuing to pick and choose which games he's going to sit out. Then it's Manny's 4-Deep Thoughts on the world of sports. Later, Wolves TV Analyst Jim Peterson joins to discuss the current state of the Wolves.
WFNY's Jim Pete, Mike Hattery, and Gage Will discuss the ALDS match-up between the Astros and the Indians, taking a look at JRam's slump, the starting rotation's key role, the slumping Indians' bullpen, and every other aspect of the Tribe's chances against the defending World Series Champions. WFNY's Michael Hattery and Jim Pete discuss the Indians' outfield concerns heading towards the trade deadline. They discuss the main Indians' target as the July 31st deadline looms, including Joey Gallo, Derek Dietrich, Billy Hamilton, and Curtis Granderson. While Gallo is an interesting long-term addition, there's a possibility that the Indians could attach reliever Keone Kela to the deal, which would really lock the Indians bullpen in. Jim also picks Mike's brain regarding the Indians minor league system, and they take a quick look at some quick risers, why Triston McKenzie is someone worth trading for the right piece, and how the lower tiers of the Indians' system is the foundation for the next window. Oh, and there's Luis Oviedo talk. If you don't know about Oviedo, you should. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Jim Pete and Mike Hattery continue the 2018 Cleveland Indians positional previews by heading on over to first base. For the first time this decade, the Cleveland Indians will be without Carlos Santana in the lineup. Last season, after several years hopping around the diamond, Santana really found his groove as a gold glove worthy first baseman. Unfortunately, Santana found a new home in Philadelphia, to the tune of three years and $60 million. The Indians answered losing Santana by signing free agent Yonder Alonso, who is coming off a career year in which he came off of an American League All-Star performance, thanks to becoming a big believer in the fly ball revolution. The WFNY boys will discuss the impact of the loss of Santana, ponder Alonso as a full-time first baseman, and take a look at the potential platoon options, should Alonso dip in production. Could we see Yandy Diaz, Michael Brantley, Francisco Mejia or Jason Kipnis at first base? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In 2017, the big questions surrounding the catcher position was whether or not Roberto Perez could officially take over from Yan Gomes, who had struggled with injuries and offense over the previous two seasons. But Gomes managed to catch in 105 games, holding off Perez for another season. So, in 2018, the questions really haven't changed from last year. Can Gomes keep the job he recaptured in 2017? Will Roberto Perez finally take over, thanks to his defensive supremacy? Can the 50-50 tilt, teeter in one direction or another, or will both catchers split the duties again? Oh, and what about Francisco Mejia and Eric Haase, who both will likely find themselves either in Columbus, or Cleveland? Mike Hattery and Jim Pete return after a LONG hiatus, to talk Indians baseball. They talk about Carlos Santana, and the realities of what he's going to earn this offseason. Are the Indians' still players in the Santana sweepstakes, and how does Princess Bride play into Santana's future? The Cleveland Indians were busy kicking off the 2017-2018 Hot Stove Season. They re-upped Michael Brantley and Josh Tomlin, and gave Carlos Santana the one-year qualifying offer, hoping to gain some leverage in signing him to a potential longer-term deal. WFNY's Jim Pete and Gage Will discuss the Santana conundrum, and how the Brantley deal may put them in a strange place, as the dominoes past that don't seem to fit perfectly. They also discuss Jason Kipnis's spot on the team, figure out who's playing third base long term, and ponder Danny Salazar's future, either in the pen, the rotation, or for another team. With an elimination game upon us, WFNY's Jim Pete and Gage Will hop back into the EHC podcast at WFNY studios to talk a little bit about what went wrong in Games 3 and 4, and what may happen in Game 5. The line-up: Critiquing Terry Francona: is it allowed, and is it fair? Gio Urshela...one game of bad defense makes it okay for whatever the Indians decide to do with him in the series. You had one job. Should EE play in Game 5? Will it be Yandy at third, JRam at 2B and Kipnis in Center, or will it be JRam at third, Kipnis in Center and Greg Allen/AJax in center? Worried about Kluber? The leash will be short for CC Sabathia, and what comes next is pretty scary. How good are the Yankees, and how pissed off does that make you? Learn more about your ad choices. We're on Patreon and you can support us! Subscribe: WFNY YouTube EHC YouTube iTunes Stitcher Google Play Here's the lineup: Why wasn't the Jay Bruce trade a bigger deal? Bruce has been significantly better than all the Indians' outfielders offensively Where does Jay Bruce fit in the playoffs? Jay Bruce has been better offensively and defensively than Michael Brantley this year The line-up looks much better with Jay Bruce in it If everyone comes back healthy, Tito can't mess up the line-up Does Brantley have a "healthy ceiling?" Does Kipnis have a "healthy ceiling?" Injuries sap your profile as you pass age 30 Who'd you rather, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis or Jay Bruce? Heel Mike (that was for you Nino) Extend Chisenhall? (Nom will love this) Santana staying makes a lot of sense What does a Carlos Santana deal look like? The free agent market could make a Santana deal to stay...more likely than you think! Does Santana over Brantley make sense, without Mike and Jim getting pitchforked? Brantley in left, or at first? Peak Brantley is long gone We LOVE Michael Brantley, but... Be honest, how many people thought he'd play 88 games this year this past January? Baseball's shifted towards Jay Bruce... Jay Bruce, metrics master Bruce SEEMS TO BE A TITO GUY, do they sign him? Brantley's staying...right? Bruce has been an Indians target for awhile Bruce extends the line-up better than Brantley and Kipnis The Indians don't like rentals Did the Indians sign Bruce as a preemptive way to sign him in the offseason? The Cleveland Indians have been scuffling winners over the first six weeks of the season. While their 18-14 record puts them atop the American League Central by a game over the Minnesota Twins, the team has yet to click for more than a game or two at a time. No, it's not a time to worry, but while we're waiting for this team to get healthy and put it all together, there are some interesting struggles emerging. Sure, it's WAY too early to be talking about first place, and worries, with a roster as talented as this one, but it's still something to put in your back pocket, as the summer season grows closer. Today, WFNY's Jim Pete and Mike Hattery dive into a few of these conversations, discussing the fantastic bullpen, the suddenly thin-ish rotation, and of course, how the Indians are handling Yandy Diaz, and what and how they're presenting his talent to the public. We're on Patreon and you can support us! Subscribe: iTunes Stitcher Google Play YouTube Here's the line-up: The bullpen is elite, the rotation is really good. All things considered, how good are they? Can the bullpen and rotation carry the team if the offense struggles for long stretches because the American League just sucks...and Mike isn't chatty. The Nick Goody experiment Goody as a high leverage reliever at some point? Yeah, we have to talk about Yandy Diaz. They sent him down to work on multiple positions and get every day at bats, and they brought him up to be a utility...super. We recorded this podcast on Sunday...so we have predictive powers. Mike is offended...OFFENDED...about the 25th man usage. The Michael Martinez defense How to use Yandy, and get him at bats Protecting Kipnis and Brantley Left-handed pitching, and why it's killing us right now, and why it won't always be that way There are natural factors which cause us to struggle against lefties when Encarnacion and Guyer are struggling Yandy Diaz ISN'T A CONTROL ISSUE... Cody Allen and Andrew Miller Has Andrew Miller become the "Corey Kluber" of the bullpen, lifting the rest of the pen? Fun bullpen usage Rotation depth worries? Salazar's a risk, can't punt Bauer, Tomlin is always a concern, and Triple A pitchers are struggling Clevinger is a five-and-fly dude A way too early talk about trading for a starter...because Cooney and Frias There likely is enough talent in the rotation and beyond, to compensate Cost of a starter, could be a worry, unless the market is flooding Minor League talk: Worried about the Indians overall depth? The Indians spring is almost halfway over, and while there isn't much to talk about, two shoulders are at the top of the worry list. With Michael Brantley still recovering from a 2015 injury, Jason Kipnis has quietly been on the shelf for most of Spring Training with shoulder ailments of his own. Mike Hattery and Jim Pete take a way-to-deep look at the shoulder, and what this could mean for Kipnis in 2017. The EHC boys also discuss Yandy Diaz, and why he should make the roster, groin or no groin. They gaze at the almost surreal swing changes that Bradley Zimmer has undergone, and ponder long-term deals for Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor. We're on Patreon and you can support us! Small sample sizes don't make a career Is Zimmer's swing repeatable? If Zimmer cuts his K% to 25% or better, is he a top 20 prospect? These are tough changes to make at an advanced level The Indians have been giving their young guys a chance, and they've been performing Yandy Diaz needs to be on the roster, groin or no groin Diaz gets four games a week if he's a utility Yandy's only mystery is how good he is defensively in the outfield Long term deal for Lindor and JRam? The Cleveland Indians' starting rotation is considered by many to be the engine of the team, anchored by former Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. With fellow ace Carlos Carrasco, and potential future aces is Danny Salazar and Trevor Bauer, the top end of this staff can match up with anyone. The fact that playoff hero Josh Tomlin is considered by many to be a footnote to the "thunderarms" ahead of him really says it all. With the staff back and healthy after Carrasco and Salazar missed substantial crunch time (discounting brief Salazar sightings), some are saying that the starting five are as good a rotation as there is in all of baseball. WFNY's Mike Hattery and Jim Pete take a look at why this rotation is so good, and why there is still cause for concern. They also take a look at the Columbus rotation, Mike Clevinger, and why Cody Anderson's UCL injury is giving them nightmares. There aren't many question marks when you take into account the Cleveland Indians' roster. While the infield is as locked as any in Major League Baseball, the outfield still has some potential for turmoil. Will Michael Brantley be healthy at any point in 2017? Can Tyler Naquin continue his big rookie campaign? Is the Lonnie Chisenhall/Brandon Guyer (Guyer-Hall? ChisGuy?) platoon in right the anchor of the outfield? Is Abraham Almonte the most pivotal outfielder? Can Austin Jackson make the roster? Will Yandy Diaz make the team out of camp? What about Greg Allen and Bradley Zimmer?
