I'm going to keep it short and sweet today because my intent is to try to communicate to Cody Anderson why his statement about bullying and cancel culture is wrong. While he did say he does not agree with or support the things Greg Glassman has said, he has criticized our movement for perpetuating “cancel culture” in the way we're separating ourselves from CrossFit. Anderson wrote on Instagram, “Does anybody else see the hypocrisy in preaching unity and love across all people and then raising metaphorical pitchforks at somebody the next week when they make a stupid comment?”Later in his statement he writes, “Cancel culture is not ok, it's bullying and excludes all opinions except it's own.”Well. Cody. First of all, you spoke up and said that you want to embrace love. Which all of us agree with you on. For sure, everything we're doing here is in support of love and in fight of hatred. But what your statement ignores and fails to address is a society that is systematically oppressing, arresting, hurting, and killing black people. Greg Glassman has had two weeks in the spotlight for this, and millions of moments he could have changed his stance, spoken up, or walked back his hatred.Racism does not go away just because we say, “oh, silly Greg Glassman. You're such a goofball. We forgive you.” We don't. And we're not leaving his brand because we don't have forgiveness in our hearts. We're leaving his brand because he isn't changing. We're leaving his brand because we already have problems with equality and the brand, under Glassman's leadership, and he's not providing a solution to the problem. You've called us bullies. Is Glassman not a bully here? Are you saying we should pay Glassman $3,000 a year of our lunch money so we can stay friends with him while he terrorizes black people? The answer is no.Will the oppression of black people go away if we forgive Greg Glassman? The answer is no. Will the mass incarceration of black people go away if we forgive Greg Glassman? The answer is no. Will the beatings of black people go away if we forgive Greg Glassman? The answer is no. WIll the killing of black people go away if we forgive Greg Glassman? The answer is no.Will someone see the example we made here and, as a leader, learn that it's not okay to perpetuate the systematic oppression of black people? The answer is yes. This isn't cancel culture. This is a cultural course correction and Greg Glassman is the iceberg.

Leading Off with Ryan Lewis: A podcast on the Cleveland Indians Podcast
On this week's Leading Off with Ryan Lewis, we look back on the injury to Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Corey Kluber. Ryan gives us an update on how the Indians will manage their starting rotation while being without Kluber and Mike Clevinger. That got us talking about a few related topics, including Cody Anderson's dreadful Sunday start, why Dallas Keuchel isn't in the team's plans and Clevinger's progress. Ryan also gave his opinion on whether or not it's actually good that Kluber is out after struggling at the beginning of this season. We also talked about the slow turnaround for third baseman Jose Ramirez. His batting average is finally at .200 after Sunday's game. There's some explanation for why his hitting is starting to improve.

The Cleveland Indians' starting rotation is considered by many to be the engine of the team, anchored by former Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. With fellow ace Carlos Carrasco, and potential future aces is Danny Salazar and Trevor Bauer, the top end of this staff can match up with anyone. The fact that playoff hero Josh Tomlin is considered by many to be a footnote to the "thunderarms" ahead of him really says it all. With the staff back and healthy after Carrasco and Salazar missed substantial crunch time (discounting brief Salazar sightings), some are saying that the starting five are as good a rotation as there is in all of baseball. WFNY's Mike Hattery and Jim Pete take a look at why this rotation is so good, and why there is still cause for concern. They also take a look at the Columbus rotation, Mike Clevinger, and why Cody Anderson's UCL injury is giving them nightmares. On this week's episode Andy and Bob lead off with a discussion that answers the question: What is the only thing that Max Scherzer and Cody Anderson have in common? After that, Andy leads the discussion of Francisco Cervelli's surprising contract extension and what that means for the pecking order of catchers in Pittsburgh. He talks about two distinctly different series with the Reds and Cubs, before he waxes poetic about Pirates pitching prospects Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon. Bob then addresses the Indians' outfield as it pertains to the health of Michael Brantley's shoulder, he talks about Dan in Buffalo's favorite prospect Mike Clevinger making his first start tomorrow, the health of Carlos Carrasco's hamstring, and finishes with talk of surprising Trevor Bauer stats and the importance of Cleveland sports fans to remain optimistic. The duo wrap up the show with a SeaWolves shout out that looks at the upcoming schedule, the Akron RubberDucks, Dean Green destroying baseball's for the Wolves, and JaCoby Jones returning to the SeaWolves' lineup.

Jason and I had a brief break last week, but Let's Talk Tribe is BACK. We had a lot to discuss this week, some of it good, quite a bit of it bad. The Cleveland Indians swept the Detroit Tigers but made the Minnesota Twins look like a powerhouse. Does it matter? We also wonder what the heck the Tribe will do with their fifth starter position. Cody Anderson is apparently going to get some more starts in the majors (grumble grumble), but what about after that? Could it be Mike Clevinger or Ryan Merritt's turn to debut? Or maybe TJ House gets another shot? This week's episode clocks in at 55 minutes. Thanks for listening! One of these weeks the Cleveland Indians will play a full week's worth of games. Well, that was not last week, so we only had five games to talk about. Luckily, a lot happened in those games -- and a lot happened in the minor leagues -- so we had plenty to talk about. Joining us on today's episode is fellow Let's Go Tribe writer, Matt Schlichting! He introduces us to a new way to see Jerry Sands, as well as the concept of a Rock and Roll pitcher -- a classification that fits Indians starter Cody Anderson perfectly. The three of us also look ahead to the upcoming series against the New York Mets. They have been pretty terrible so far, and we can only hope their struggles continues for another three days. Social media questions today run from wondering why Jesus Aguilar isn't being called up to the all important question of "....Collin Cowgill?" This week's episode clocks in at 59 minutes.
