They discussed Shingo Takagi's 20th Anniversary Show, Jeff Cobb's TV title defense against Yota Tsuji, HENARE's NEVER Openweight title match with Hiromu Takahashi, and Taiji Ishimori's challenge of DOUKI for the Junior Heavyweight title. They also debated rematches, who might be the next challengers, and fretted about injuries to Jake Lee and Ren Narita. Finally, they looked back at the life of Kuniaki Kobayashi, a man who was part of a critical time in pro wrestling and had a long-term job behind the scenes making him a positive influence on the careers of many top stars of today.

Steven Conway and Jeremy Finestone are working on short sleep, but they're happy to break down the wonderful WrestleKingdom 18 card. New Japan delivered an emotional, exciting event, with each match bringing something different to the table, along with some surprises. They break down all aspects of the show, from SANADA facing Tetsuya Naito in the main event, to a wild three-way featuring Will Ospreay, David Finlay and Jon Moxley, to the sublime rematch between Kazuchika Okada and Bryan Danielson. They also looked at an excellent Junior Heavyweight title match with Hiromu Takahashi facing El Desperado, a Tama Tonga-Shingo Takagi battle that almost stole the show, and a double tag team title match with a finish Jeremy hinted at with El Phantasmo and Hikuleo on this very show. All this and more as the guys do a deep dive into the biggest single show of the year! The video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/live/2rNMQ82-kRw?si=d_SJVFJGtshqFV-z

The arrival of the legendary Jushin “Thunder” Liger to Ring of Honor was a big deal! We'd had The Great Muta, we'd had Shinjiro Ohtani, we'd had Satoshi Kojima, but it is safe to say that Liger may be the most influential Japanese legend yet to appear on an ROH event. He defined Junior Heavyweight wrestling for future generations, a inspiration that was readily apparent in ROH back in 2004, and to have him on two events was huge for a company still shy of its 3rd birthday! On top of Liger, this show was the elevation of Austin Aries, the continued growth of Jimmy Rave, a sleeper of a Collyer/Ki match, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) the 7th match in the career of Shane Hagadorn! You know...the real main event in Revere (an infamous town in wrestling for its own reasons, look it up). It's “Weekend of Thunder Night 1”, and it is brought to you on The Creative Control Network and sponsored by MyBookie.AG, where you can DOUBLE your first bet up to $1,000 with promo code HONOR!-----------------------------------------Weekend of Thunder Night 1November 5, 2004Revere, MASingles MatchAce Steel vs. Jimmy Rave (w/Diablo Santiago, Oman Tortuga & Prince Nana)Four Corner Survival MatchAngel Dust vs. Dunn vs. Fast Eddie vs. HomicideBoston Street FightBJ Whitmer & Dan Maff vs. The Carnage Crew (DeVito & Loc)Singles MatchChad Collyer vs. Low KiTag Team MatchJay Lethal & Samoa Joe vs. John Walters & Nigel McGuinnessTag Team MatchDavey Andrews & Shane Hagadorn vs. The Outcast Killaz (Diablo Santiago & Oman Tortuga)Singles MatchAustin Aries vs. CM PunkROH Tag Team Title MatchThe Havana Pitbulls (Ricky Reyes & Rocky Romero) (c) vs. Generation Next (Jack Evans & Roderick Strong)Singles MatchBryan Danielson vs. Jushin Thunder Liger-=-=-=-=-=-=-An Honorable Mention Podcast is hosted by Jeff Schwartz & Shane Hagadorn every Tuesday on the Creative Control Network.OUTLETS:iTUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/an-honorable-mention-with-shane-hagadorn-jeff-schwartz/id1348324250?mt=2TuneIn Radio: https://tunein.com/podcasts/Sports--Recreation-Podcasts/An-Honorable-Mention-p1101966/Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/an-honorable-mention?refid=stprSpreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/show/an-honorable-mention-with-shane-hagadornCastbox: https://www.castbox.fm/channel/id2083202Podbean: https://www.podbean.com/podcast-detail/6xh9y-77731/An-Honorable-Mention-with-Shane-Hagadorn--Jeff-Schwartz-PodcastSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3bT7qZVq6PN2JWJu21v0jMiHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/966-an-honorable-mention-w-sha-45911710/ListenNotes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/an-honorable-mention-with-shane-hagadorn-0nVes3d7roi/Podcast Addict: http://podplayer.net/?podld=2360081SUPPORT THE SHOW:Patreon.com/AnHonorablePodItsADVDProduct.comProwrestlingtees.com/AnHonorableMentionMyBookie.com Promo Code: Honor (Double Your 1st Deposit Up To $1,000)ADVERTISE WITH US:advertisecast.com/anhonorablementionwithshanehagadornjeffanhonorablemention@gmail.comFOLLOW US FOR THE LATEST NEWS & NOTES!Twitter & Instagram- @anhonorablepodTwitter & Instagram - @thejeffschwartzTwitter & Instagram - @hagadornshaneAudio by Zach Johnson - @RadioZTanhonorablemention.wixsite.com/mainTwitch.tv/AnHonorablePodFacebook.com/AnHonorablePodYoutube Search “An Honorable Mention”

I'm finally reviewing All Japan on the show, and damn, what a great first impression they've made. I take a look at that final run of 3 great matches and I also offer some speculation on how All Japan could/should book the Triple Crown and Junior Heavyweight titles going forward so as to establish new stars. A few pointers from this episode: "You want All Japan to prosper? Kill your God-king Miyahara" "Suwama has 'come back' so many times it's almost like he NEVER LEFT HMMMM INTERESTING" "Nomura kills a Kiwi on the way to his Triple Crown championship" "Iwamoto and Yoshioka are flashy dudes with ill-fitting attitudes" "Yoshitatsu thinks YOU are bad" "This undercard will give you the plague" * Follow me on Twitter: @puregradepuro * Official Podcast: Youtube – Apple Podcasts – Podbean

It should have been a classic night of Junior Heavyweight wrestling where 8 AMERICAN competitors battled it out to compete in the 2005 New Japan Pro Wrestling "Best of the Super Juniors" tournament. Instead it was a rainy night once again (well technically this came first but that's semantics and at least we were indoors), and this time the fan reaction was quite different to say the least. It was the end of onen era as ROH bid farewell to Dan Maff between shows but the beginning of another as new ROH Tag Team Champions would be crowned. The ROH World Title hung in the balance between Austin Aries and "The Notorious 187" Homicide, the Saints and Embassy had a...grating...battle, and we've got some ridiculous stories about that one (HE'S BLIND)!It was Asbury Park, NJ on April 2nd of 2005 (probably one day too late honestly) and it was the "'Best' Of the American Super Juniors Tournament"! NJPW try and do something different with this show and the 46th Anniversary was no different. Will Osperay helped bring back tradition as the Junior Heavyweight Champion took on his stable mate and IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. The Junior Heavyweight tag titles were also on the line as Sho and Yo of RP3K defended the titles against LIJ & Suzuki Gun. Minoru Suzuki defended his Intercontinental Title against Togi Makabe and there was some general fun stuff along the way.

Episode 73 is with former CZW World Heavyweight Champion, and one of the most innovative and exciting high flyers of all time, Ruckus. It was great to have Ruckus on, as I was a big fan of his work all across the indies in the early to mid 2000s, including CZW and 3PW. We talk about his fandom as young man, his access to all sorts of different promotions, and who he enjoyed watching. We cover his backyard wrestling, and trading his tapes with another backyarder, Sonjay Dutt! He covers some of his early matches, including teaming with New Jack early on, and the match on a New Jersey indy that lead to his beginnings in CZW. We go through his lengthy original CZW run, including wrestling for the Junior Heavyweight title with guys like Sonjay Dutt and Trent Acid. We also talk about his feud with Rockin Rebel and how the NAACP got involved! We talk about the BLK OUT stable, how that came about, and how successful it was, including leading to a few CZW World Heavyweight Championship reigns. We go over his team with BLK JEEZ, and how successful it has been all through wrestling, including CZW and Extreme Rising. We cover his work in Ring Of Honor, and his World Heavyweight Championship match with Nigel McGuinness. We also go over the Wrestling Society X project, and what he thought of MTV's influence over the TV show. And we talk about what Ruckus is up to today, including his return to CZW, and future dates with Atomic Championship Wrestling, Billtown Championship Wrestling, and Maryland Championship Wrestling. All in all, it's a cool conversation with one of the chillest guys you'll ever speak to, one of the most memorable indy wrestlers of all time for Philly and Jersey fans, Ruckus. Ruckus will be appearing for Atomic Championship Wrestling on July 9th, Billtown Championship Wrestling on July 30th, and Maryland Championship Wrestling on August 20th. There is an alternative. Far from the world of matadors and John Cena's dad, away from indie wrestling's pale imitations, there is a place where wrestling is still strong, proud and captivating. That place is Japan. For the benefit of their souls, Karl and Michael watch a wrestling show that's actually good, staying seated for five and a half hours of dragons, Deloreans and demonic possession, of dropkicks that haven't forgotten the effective in-ring logic of a dropkick, and of Americans who just shout FUCK into the camera to get a pop. The January 4 Tokyo Dome show is NJPW's Wrestlemania: the promotion's Gary-from-Pokemon, Okada, takes on the upstart Naito for the bigger, golder belt, while podcast favourite Tanahashi's Hair takes on the dastardly, alcohol-consuming Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Title. Old school friends Goto and Shibata go at it with the stiffness, and Bray, Ireland's most complicated musculature Prince Devitt is inhabited by Carnage from Spiderman for his Junior Heavyweight title defence with Kota Ibushi. There's plenty more across a huge card, and we treat everything with a good deal of confusion: what is the significance of hair? What makes this crowd pop? What is the story with Japanese culture? It's fun, and it's long - it's Jumping Nothing Goes To The Tokyo Dome
