Welcome back to the Fight Business Podcast, Patrick Auger's show dedicated to the business-side of mixed martial arts. In this episode, Auger breaks down the UFC's decision to release fighters Yoel Romero, Anthony Johnson, Rachael Ostovich, Jussier Formiga, and many more. UFC president Dana White has said that the promotion is on track to cut 60 fighters to end the year. Auger comments that this may not be a set number of fighters, but more so a total dollar amount. Auger discusses Endeavor's struggles and how they impact the UFC. He also shares examples of fighters who could be at risk due to either lucrative contracts and/or not being able to draw in the casual audience. Here is some detail on what’s going on here... the “regular” ‘C’mon Now MMA Podcast’ is a daily podcast of varying lengths, which can be found here: cmonnow.substack.com/. This show, however, is a compilation of some of the best topics covered on the daily show over the past week. This week’s “Best of” edition topics include: 1. Dana White vs. the facts and science of COVID-19 continues (and a lot more on this subject) 2. Dana White scolds MMA media for not holding him accountable for a single bonus. 1) That’s not the media’s job 2) The reason no one wants to hold White accountable on anything is fear. 3) Can we hold White accountable for other things as well...like health and safety, pay, etc... Also, what’s the criteria for a fight-night bonus? 3. Dana White wonders if fighters are competing so often these days because of COVID-19. C’mon now, he knows damn well, that’s why fighters are fighting back-to-back. He also knows these fight cards are nothing more than content for ESPN. 4. Miguel Baeza should tell UFC to pump the brakes and not over promote him. We’ve seen too many UFC promotional failures to trust the UFC. 5. UFC might not promote traditional “old guy” fights, but we know UFC promotes fights where fighters are past their sell-by dates. 6. One MMA media member gives Dana White a pat on the back because Saturday’s event was good. Perhaps that was true in hindsight, but if UFC puts a crap card together ahead of fight night, don’t expect fans to tune in. 7. Dana White says UFC can’t make Michael Chandler cut weight again so soon (10/24), but UFC can make two fighters who competed on 11/21 can fight again on 12/12? C’mon now... 8. Megan Anderson reveals how the sausage gets made re: fight information being “leaked” to ESPN MMA 9. UFC released Jussier Formiga. I doubt he’s going to be the last really good, but just short of great fighter to be released. Again, the quality of UFC events will keep dropping until the ratings take a dump. Don’t pledge blind allegiance to the UFC. 10. Sure, judging in MMA is a problem, but the bigger problem is the win/show pay. If fighters got a flat rate, they wouldn’t have to worry about a judge “costing” them. Point the finger at Dana White and the UFC and the stupid pay method, not the judging. 11. Khamzat Chimaev makes the UFC welterweight rankings and that doesn’t make sense. 12. I believe Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier will be for the interim UFC lightweight title. 13. It took some big balls from Dana White to go after Bob Arum. White is not a fight promoter. He promotes the UFC for the overlords at Endeavor and the investors. He does not promote the fighters. 14. Jon Jones’ ego won’t allow him to retire by 35 and probably not before he’s 40. 15. I think Dana White is overstating the odds of Khabib Nurmagomedov fighting again and I think White is doing that because he believes money matters to the UFC lightweight champ. UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Lewis is coming up this weekend, and while the card isn't the strongest, the main event between Heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis is a big fight, with big men. In the first half of this week's episode we preview that entire card. In the second half of the show we discuss the week in MMA news, including Anderson Silva parting ways with the UFC, Jussier Formiga's release, Gina Carano, Tara LaRosa, Bellator, and the results of UFC 255. Finally, we look back 500 episodes to our thoughts at the time on Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, Jon Jones vs. Ryan Bader, and Donald Cerrone's UFC debut. The UFC showcased a headliner featuring a Women’s Featherweight World Championship Bout with the Current Best Pound For Pound Female MMA Fighter, Amanda ‘The Lioness’ Nunes, defending her title at UFC 250 in the Main Event TONIGHT (Sat., June 6, 2020) from inside the brand new UFC APEX Fight Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The contender was Felicia ‘Feenom’ Spencer, who entered the octagon having last defeated Zarah Fairn at UFC on ESPN+ 27 back in February of this year, fighting out of Orlando, Florida, with a 8-1 fight record going up against Nunes’ unprecedented ten-fight win streak, having last defeated Germaine de Randamie at UFC 245 back in Dec. 2019, with a current 19-4 record. Also on the card, was a highly-anticipated Bantamweight scrap, which many felt should have been the co-main event. It was a battle between the current #2 best MMA Bantamweight Fighter, Aljamain ‘Funk Master’ Sterling against the #4 best in Cory Sandhagen; the actual co-main was also a Bantamweight bout but between the #6 & #7 ranked Raphael Assunção and Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt... what a fun night of fights we had to look forward to! During the entire five-fight main card portion of UFC 250, throughout the telecast, SBN MMA's Matt Ryan, engaged with the live chat whenever possible. This week on Heavy Hands, we're looking forward to two very big and very interesting fights, as well as reviewing the violence visited on our beloved boy Junior Dos Santos by Francis Ngannou last weekend. Topics: Has Jon Jones ever faced a fighter like Thiago Santos, and how much does that matter? Holly Holm is like a larger, less skilled Valentina Shevchenko. Is that enough to beat the double champ Nunes? (probably not) Demian Maia just barely beat Jorge Masvidal. Does Ben Askren have enough Maia in him to do the same? It's going to be super funny when Jan of Rivia just takes Luke Rockhold's head off all because he spent the last half decade ensuring that he'd leave his chin at 185 Junior Dos Santos, and the overhand he didn't throw hard enough Joe Benavidez rules, and Jussier Formiga looked better than ever, and WHY IS ALL OF THIS HAPPENING TO THIS AWESOME DIVISION
At UFC on ESPN 3, Francis Ngannou stopped Junior dos Santos inside of a round, Joseph Benavidez TKO'd Jussier Formiga, Demian Maia held off Anthony Rocco Martin, Alonzo Menifield made short work of Paul Craig, Vinc Pichel slowed Roosevelt Roberts's progress and more.

Then, they dive into the results from UFC Fight Night: Ngannou vs. dos Santos and debate the best way to defeat Ngannou. After that, UFC Light Heavyweight Eryk Anders calls in to talk about his use of hypnosis to help him off his three-fight losing streak. Finally, the guys end the show debating who Kelvin Gastelum should face now that he is cleared to fight and who Chris Weidman's first opponent at Light Heavyweight will be.
Ant Walker gives an immediate reaction to UFC on ESPN 3. Francis Ngannou defeated Junior Dos Santos by TKO in 71 seconds while Joseph Benavidez stopped Jussier Formiga in the flyweight co main event.
The UFC returns to ESPN this Saturday night for UFC on ESPN 3: Ngannou vs. Dos Santos. In the first half of this week's episode we preview the card, including a Heavyweight contender main event between Francis Ngannou and Junior Dos Santos, and what would be a Flyweight contender fight between Joseph Benavidez and Jussier Formiga if that title is ever defended again. In the second half of the show we discuss last weekend's UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs. Korean Zombie, new Bellator Middleweight Champion Rafael Lovato Jr.'s win over Gegard Mousasi, Sean O'Malley's removal from UFC 239, BJ Penn's latest trouble, and some recently signed UFC title matches. Hosted by Steve Jeffery, David Abraham and Greg Persson. Listen to us Wednesday nights at 6:30pm on CFMU 93.3 FM, and online at http://www.thehammermma.com, The Itunes Store, Stitcher, MMAPodcast.com, Player.FM, find @SteveJeffery on Twitter, or just email us.
It's a jam-packed episode to preview UFC Fight Night: Ngannou vs. Dos Santos on ESPN this weekend! First, lightweight Roosevelt Roberts joins to discuss his fight with Vinc Pichel, his rise to prominence in the UFC, earning a contract, and his amazing life story. Then, one of the all-time grappling greats, Demian Maia, joins to talk about his fight against Anthony Rocco Martin, his fighting style, and his incredible career since joining UFC in 2007. Next, Joseph Benavidez joins to talk about his flyweight battle with Jussier Formiga, Saturday's co-main event. Benavidez is the last fighter to beat Henry Cejudo and believes he's next in line to fight the champ when he returns from his shoulder injury. At the end, Jim & Matt make their predictions for the main event: Francis Ngannou vs Junior Dos Santos.

Last weekend's UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm featured a shocking upset in the main event when Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey to win the UFC women's Bantamweight Championship in front of a record breaking 56,000 Australian fans. Needless to say there is a lot to digest from that night, and it takes up a big part of this week's episode. Although overshadowed a bit by the Rousey and Holm media explosion, the UFC does return to Mexico this coming weekend for UFC Fight Night: Magny vs. Gastellum. We spend the last part of this week's show discussing the more interesting fights on this card, including the up-and-coming Welterweight contenders in the main event, and a likely number one contender fight between Jussier Formiga and Henry Cejudo. Hosted by Steve Jeffery, David Abraham and Greg Persson. Listen to us Wednesday nights at 6:30pm on CFMU 93.3 FM, and online at http://www.thehammermma.com, Last Word On Sports, The Itunes Store, Stitcher, MMAPodcast.com, Player.FM, find @SteveJeffery on Twitter, or just email us.

We also discuss the upcoming Bellator and World Series of Fighting events, as well as the unfortunate injury of Chris Weidman that has delayed his UFC Middleweight Championship fight against Lyoto Machida. Listen to us Wednesday nights at 6:30pm on CFMU 93.3 FM, and online at http://www.thehammermma.com, Last Word On Sports, The Itunes Store, find @SteveJeffery on Twitter, or just email us.
