In this week's episode of ReFolkUs, we chat with Kaeley Jade.We dive into her incredible journey from gigging at just 9 years old to becoming a recording and performing artist. She reflects on how attending industry conferences opened her eyes to the business side of music, shaping her path as an independent, DIY artist. Kaeley also takes us behind the scenes of her work in theatre, including writing the music for the award-winning Two Headed/Half-Hearted musical. As a multidisciplinary artist, Kaeley emphasizes the importance of practicing various art forms and having hobbies outside of music to enhance both your artistic career and creative process, staying refreshed and avoiding burnout.Find Kaeley Jade onlineInstagramFacebookTikTokWebsiteAbout Kaeley JadeKaeley Jade is an award-winning Métis and Settler singer/songwriter, actor, and multidisciplinary artist based in Edmonton, Alberta (amiskwaciwâskahikan). Blending lush imagery and hooky melodic lines to create her own brand of pop-forward indie folk music, Kaeley has performed at venues and festivals across Canada, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, JUNOfest, Folk Music Ontario, the Canmore Folk Music Festival, and Coldsnap. Kaeley moves between ballads and bops with ease, and she brings an electricity to the stage whether she is playing an intimate acoustic set or playing alongside her full five-piece band. Kaeley's deep involvement within the music, theatre and film ecosystems have presented her many opportunities to weave her disciplines together; in 2022, Kaeley joined forces with award-winning playwright Trevor Schmidt to create the critically acclaimed country-folk musical Two-Headed/Half-Hearted, which premiered at Northern Light Theatre with Kaeley in the role of “Venus”. Her music has received radio play across the globe, has been reviewed by publications worldwide, and has been featured in several film and television productions. Her vibrant debut full-length album, Turpentine, has earned her significant recognition in the Canadian music scene—she is a Canadian Folk Music Award Winner and 3x Nominee, Western Canadian Music Award Nominee, Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award Winner and 3x Nominee, SOCAN Indigenous Songwriter Awards Finalist, and 2023 Henry Armstrong Award Recipient.______________Join us in celebrating the finest in folk music at the Folk Music Ontario Conference this October 2nd-6th, plus don't miss the Ontario Folk Music Awards, recognizing the best talent in our vibrant community. Does God want women to be silent and submissive? Kaeley Triller, author of the Substack, "Honest to Goodness", has a lot to say on the topic. We talk about Kaeley's changing relationship with the church, and with God, about scripture, and about how to discern truth in spiritual matters. We dig at the roots of the battle of the sexes, and ask what happens "when you sideline half of God's army."Kaeley stresses that she is not a Biblical scholar, but points her readers to a few scholars such as Ben Witherington, Craig Keener, N.T. Wright, and Philip Barton Payne, who support her views on what the Bible has to say on the question of sexual egalitarianism.Kaeley's Substack is here. This is one of her recent articles that addresses much of what we talk about in this interview.

The Canary Collective Podcast Episode Three: Believe Her with Lisa Seilkopf Medical Medium Coach Join Kaeley Pruitt-Hamm of people power indie folk band KPH & The Canary Collective as she traces the themes of environmental and human healing behind her songs through conversation with her fellow canaries, friends and family. In today's episode, Kaeley interviews Lisa Seilkopf, a health coach who shares a really similar health story to Kaeley. They both had been diagnosed with "autoimmune diseases" but did not get better from their debilitating symptoms until they started treating the root causes of their symptoms holistically. They ask questions such as "why are so many people getting diagnosed with autoimmune disorders? What are some potential root causes - such as chronic infections and toxins that the body is reacting to - that the mainstream medical community might be missing?" These gals are not doctors and are not giving medical advice, but it's fun to compare notes between canaries on their healthcare journeys and dream about a future in which it's easier to afford healthcare that actually addresses the whole body and environmental factors that influence our insides. Kaeley Triller is the co-founder of Hands Across the Aisle Women's Coalition. Today, she shares her difficult moments that revealed God's kindness toward her and why she joined forces with women from different backgrounds. The unlikely partnership was formed when she took an unpopular stand against a new policy in Washington State regarding restrooms. We talk about why Kaeley feels so passionately about protecting children and how we can love people from other perspectives even if we do not agree. She has been on the receiving end of hate mail and threats and encourages the Church to speak up in love for truth. Please listen to Kaeley's story and share! Stories Kaeley shared: Growing up in a Christian home in Gig Harbor, Washington and going to Christian schools Rebelling against God after suffering abuse from a pedophile in her home Crying out to the Lord in the bathtub and his interesting answer Getting into a difficult marriage How God showed up miraculously after a car crash The “lowly worm” theology and why it's wrong The conviction to learn to love her husband and her eventual decision to leave him The spiritual care of her pastor and church during her divorce Why discernment is important in applying Scripture The moment she had to leave her job at the YMCA How she connected with a lesbian legend to found a coalition Why she feels so passionately about the issue of gender identity How best to love people who believe differently than we do Great quotes from Kaeley: God has brought me back to himself by making me a parent. It can be sinful to call something evil or bad or worthless when God has said that it is good. Truth resonates with people ready to hear it. We don't have to compromise the truth to be loving. The day after Christmas in 2015, five members of the Washington State Human Rights Commission passed a new rule opening sex-specific locker rooms, showers and changing areas to members of the opposite sex. Right now, a biological man may enter any girl’s public locker room in the entire state and declare his right to be there. Even worse, if a girl or her parents complain, they are told to leave the locker room and may be subject to penalties. Kaeley Triller Haver is Communications Director for Just Want Privacy, a grassroots group hoping to put an initiative on the ballot to require schools to maintain separate facilities for boys and girls and allow businesses to manage private areas in the way they feel is best for them. Kaeley Triller never planned on becoming an activist. She was a communications director at the local YMCA when the LGBT lobby's push to open women's lockerrooms and bathrooms to men who identify as women cost her her job. As a rape survivor, she wrote an online journal entry about why this matters for women's safety and found herself on the front lines of the fight for privacy in public places. Listen in as Gabrielle and Kaeley discuss: Creating a career out of what makes you cry Finding common ground with radical feminists in the fight against injustice Why the Church needs to stand up for women on this issue How writing one blog can change your life You can follow Kaeley’s work at JustWantPrivacy on Facebook.
